    Construir el “algoritmo”: pobreza, emociones y políticas sociales como elementos de las sociedades del siglo XXI

    The book entitled “Poverty, emotions and state interventions. Before and after the COVID-19 pandemic” written by Angélica De Sena, Andrea Dettano and Rebeca Cena, is divided into seven chapters and an introduction in which some definitions of social policies are recovered in connection with the challenges they present for the 21st century. Likewise, it is specifically located in Latin America in a context of increasing poverty, privatization of services, the massive incorporation of women into the labor market, the opening of the economy and the internalization of employment. This modifies the ways in which social policies are “constructed”. Who is the subject of social policies? At what point in life is there intervention? How does social policy intervene? These are some of the questions that the authors address when constructing an “algorithm” that allows us to understand the meaning of social policies and the challenges they present in the 21st century both for studying, researching and implementing them. The "programming language" they propose is based on the real experiences of the people who use it.El libro titulado “Pobreza, emociones e intervenciones estatales. Antes y después de la pandemia por COVID-19” escrito por Angélica De Sena, Andrea Dettano y Rebeca Cena, se divide en siete capítulos y una introducción en la que se recuperan algunas definiciones sobre las políticas sociales en conexión con los desafíos que presentan para el siglo XXI. Asimismo, se ubica específicamente en América Latina en un contexto de crecimiento de la pobreza, privatización de los servicios, la masiva incorporación de las mujeres en el mercado laboral, la apertura de la economía y la internalización del empleo. Lo que modifica las formas en las que se “construyen” las políticas sociales. ¿Quién es el sujeto destinatario de las políticas sociales? ¿en qué momento de la vida se interviene? ¿cómo interviene la política social? Estas son algunas de las preguntas que abordan las autoras al construir un “algoritmo” que nos permita comprender el significado de las políticas sociales y los desafíos que presentan en el siglo XXI tanto para estudiarlas, investigarlas e implementarlas.     This work focuses on fear, fear in the pandemic, and how the population exposes, diversifies, intensifies, reconverts and contextualizes it. It is said that it is an emotion of survival, also a social and political product with intention, its protection function is considered positive and its tensional chronicity is detrimental. There are various theories and opinions about fear, but what matters here is what people describe and explain, and above all its broad and deep meaning in their own voice. Among the findings, the diversity of fears stands out, the intensity of the fear of the pandemic, its permanence over time. As well as the fear of the other, as contagious and as non-compliant, that is, a biological fear of physical survival and a social fear, of survival of the group, the system and the social structure.Este trabajo se centra en el miedo, el miedo en la pandemia, y como la población lo expone, diversifica, intensifica, reconvierte y contextualiza. Se dice que es emoción de sobrevivencia, también producto social y político con intención, se considera positiva su función de protección y perjudicial su cronicidad tensional. Diversas son las teorías y opiniones frente al miedo, pero lo que aquí interesa es lo que las personas describen y explican, y sobre todo su significado amplio y profundo en su propia voz. Entre los hallazgos destaca la diversidad de miedos, la intensidad del miedo de la pandemia, su permanencia en el tiempo. Así como el miedo al otro, como contagiador y como no cumplidor, esto es, un miedo biológico de sobrevivencia física y un miedo social, de sobrevivencia del grupo, el sistema y estructura social

    This work aims to develop a critical perspective on the sociology of bodies and emotions in relation toenvironmental issues, particularly focusing on the structural conflicts arising from large-scale transnationalmining in the Province of Catamarca. It examines the effects, transformations, and impacts of contemporarytransnational mining regimes on the subjectivities of farming and indigenous women.By understanding the extractivist processes in the province as traumatic social events at the local level, and asemblematic at the national and regional levels, this study seeks to highlight the consequences these events have on the political subjectivities and sensitivities of the women involved. The analysis relies on a critical-hermeneutic reconstruction of the impacts generated by mining exploitation, including the recovery of artistic practices undertaken by these women, such as (coplas). Ultimately, the work focuses on understandingmodern mining as a key factor in shaping the emotional and motivational foundations of the subjectivities offarming and indigenous women.El presente trabajo, busca desarrollar desde la perspectiva crítica de la sociología de los cuerpos/emociones relacionada a la problemática ambiental, la conflictividad estructural producida en torno a la minería transnacional a gran escala en la Provincia de Catamarca. Esto en términos de afectaciones, transformaciones e impactos, que el régimen de la minería transnacional contemporánea involucra sobre las subjetividades de las mujeres campesinas/indígenas.Entendiendo a los procesos extractivistas ocurridos en la provincia, como acontecimientos sociales traumáticos a nivel local y emblemáticos a nivel nacional y regional. Este trabajo, pretende dar cuenta de los saldos que los mismos están produciendo en las subjetividades/sensibilidades políticas de las mujeres intervinientes y atravesadas por tal problemática. Todo ello analizado desde la reconstrucción crítico-hermenéutica de los procesos de afectación generados por las explotaciones mineras, a través de la recuperación de prácticas artísticas emprendidas por estas mujeres, como los son las coplas. Esto implica, que el trabajo se centrará en la comprensión de la minería moderna como vector clave en configuración de la base emocional-motivacional de las subjetividades de las mujeres campesinas/indígenas.

    Eliciting Emotions as Cultural Mediation: Advertising and the Non-rational Space between Culture and the Economy

    El presente artículo explora las intersecciones entre emociones, cultura y economía en el contexto de las prácticas de marketing, enfocándose en el caso de la publicidad. De este modo, basándose en los discursos de publicistas en Londres, este estudio analizó el rol de las emociones en la comunicación publicitaria, para así comprender cómo los publicistas organizan la provocación de emociones como un proceso de mediación cultural. Se plantea que la provocación de emociones en publicidad constituye lo que Moor (2012) denomina un proceso de ‘culturalización’, el que supone la continua interpretación y redefinición de la cultura a través de mensajes emocionales. En el caso de la publicidad británica, esto se aprecia en la movilización de los consumidores a través del humor y sentimientos asociados a la solidaridad o unidad social, siendo estos, de acuerdo con los entrevistados, los más típicos recursos emocionales para fortalecer relaciones de fidelidad entre marcas y consumidores. Se concluye que la mediación cultural de la publicidad depende no sólo de la interpretación de significados culturales sino también en la identificación de lo que Scribano (2019) denomina sensibilidades sociales, siendo un ejemplo de los modos por los cuales las emociones median la relación entre la cultura y la economía en la industria del marketing.This paper explores the connections between emotions, culture and economy within the framework of marketing practices, focusing on the case of advertising. In this way, grounded on the discourses of London-based advertising practitioners, this research analyzed the role of emotions in advertising communication in order to comprehend how advertisers organize the elicitation of emotions as a process of cultural mediation. It is argued that the elicitation of emotions in advertising constitutes what Moor (2012) denominates a work of ‘culturalisation’, a process that comprises the continuous interpretation and redefinition of culture through emotionally laden messages. In the case of British advertising, this is observable in the mobilization of consumers through humor and feelings associated with togetherness, which the interviewees identified as the most typical emotional resources to foster loyal relationships between brands and consumers. It is concluded that the advertising process of cultural mediation depends not only on the interpretation of cultural meanings but also on the identification of what Scribano (2019) calls social sensibilities, which constitutes an example of how emotions mediate the relationship between culture and economy in the marketing industry

    Itinerários de lazer em idosos

    The objective was to analyze the leisure experiences practiced by the elderly throughout life to understand possible relationships between current and past leisure practices, as well as the factors that influenced each stage of life. This is a qualitative and exploratory research. The sample selection was intentional and non-probabilistic. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection. The number of participants was defined by the data saturation technique. To interpret the information, we used the content analysis technique and the Iramuteq software. The sample was composed of 18 people (10 women and eight men), 70.5±5.1 years old. As main results we identified: 1) childhood and adolescence: non-systematized leisure experiences; 2) adulthood: there was a greater restriction to leisure activities due to social obligations; 3) elderly: possibility of inclusion to leisure experiences due to more free time because of retirement. We conclude that there is a continuity of leisure activities carried out in the previous phases of the life cycle, influenced by multiple factors such as socioeconomic and cultural conditions and possibilities of access to leisure spaces and equipment, which may interfere in the adherence and/or adherence to these activities in elderly.O objetivo foi analisar as vivências de lazer praticadas por idosos ao longo da vida para conhecer possíveis relações entre as práticas de lazer atuais e passadas, assim como os fatores que influenciaram em cada etapa da vida. Pesquisa de caráter qualitativo e exploratório. A seleção da amostra foi intencional e não probabilística. Adotou-se a entrevista semiestruturada para a coleta dos dados. O número de participantes foi definido pela técnica de saturação de dados. Para a interpretação das informações empregou-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo e o Software Iramuteq. A amostra foi composta por 18 pessoas (10 mulheres e oito homens), 70,5±5,1 anos. Como principais resultados identificou-se: 1) infância e adolescência: vivências de lazer do tipo não sistematizada; 2) vida adulta: houve maior restrição às atividades de lazer em virtude das obrigações sociais; 3) terceira idade: possibilidade de inserção às vivências de lazer em virtude de maior tempo livre decorrente da aposentadoria. Conclui-se que há uma continuidade das atividades de lazer realizadas nas fases anteriores do ciclo da vida, influenciada por múltiplos fatores como, condições socioeconômicas, culturais e possibilidades de acesso a espaços e equipamentos de lazer, podendo interferir na adesão e/ou aderência a essas atividades na terceira idade

    A Violência obstétrica, emoções e ações coletivas: experiências de integrantes do Fórum da Rede Cegonha

    This work aims to analyze the emotions underlying the experiences of obstetric violence lived by the members of the Cegonha Network Forum, in the Porto Seguro region, in Brazil. The research takes a psychosocial perspective of emotions to understand the subjective consequences of obstetric violence. The qualitative case study was the guiding methodological strategy. The information production instruments articulated a documentary analysis of minutes and videos of the meetings of the Cegonha Network Forum and interviews with five women who participate in it and who suffered obstetric violence. Obstetric violence is characterized by various forms of disrespect that harm the personal integrity of pregnant and/or postpartum women, causing negative emotions such as sadness, fear, frustration, revolt, among others. Such experiences can leave traumatic consequences, but they also provide the motivational basis for engaging in collective actions to fight obstetric violence. Finally, it is pointed out that participation in social movements favors the resignification of these emotions.Neste trabalho analisamos as emoções subjacentes às experiências de violência obstétrica vividas pelas integrantes do Fórum da Rede Cegonha, da região de Porto Seguro, no Brasil. A pesquisa assume uma perspectiva psicossocial das emoções, para compreender as consequências subjetivas da violência obstétrica. O estudo de caso qualitativo foi a estratégia metodológica orientadora. Os instrumentos de produção de informação articularam uma análise documental de atas e vídeos das reuniões do Fórum da Rede Cegonha, assim como entrevistas com cinco mulheres que dele participam e sofreram violência obstétrica. A violência obstétrica se caracteriza por variadas formas de desrespeito que ferem a integridade pessoal das gestantes e/ou puérperas, provocando emoções negativas como tristeza, medo, frustação, revolta, dentre outras. Tais experiências podem deixar consequências traumáticas, mas também fornecem a base motivacional para o envolvimento em ações coletivas de luta contra a violência obstétrica. Finalmente, aponta-se que a participação em movimentos sociais favorece a ressignificação dessas emoções

    Muchas comunidades hoy en día siguen siendo acosadas por recuerdos conscientes e inconscientes de atrocidades pasadas mientras luchan por vivir con los legados de brutalidad y el trauma relacionado. Estos eventos deshumanizantes no son solo guerras recientes, conflictos violentos entre comunidades, genocidios, apartheid y desplazamiento forzado, sino también atrocidades más lejanas, como la ocupación de tierras indígenas, la esclavitud y el colonialismo. Entonces, el trauma se transmitió de una generación a la siguiente, y los efectos de la deshumanización se mantienen vivos en nuestra memoria colectiva. En este contexto, este artículo explora el recuerdo más allá de la cognición y más allá del lenguaje. Se basa en la teoría normativa de la memoria colectiva y presta atención al recuerdo como lo encarnado y lo emocional, incluidas las formas en que las sensaciones y los sentimientos potentes pueden encapsular las experiencias indecibles e inexpresables de pérdida, dolor e injusticia. Esto permite una mayor investigación sobre cómo recordar la brutalidad pasada puede transmitir y reforzar nuestra identidad, orientaciones relacionales y acciones. Qué recordamos y cómo deberíamos recordar el pasado puede determinar nuestra experiencia de nuestra dignidad y bienestar, este artículo propone que requiere la ética de recordar destinada a enriquecer el potencial curativo y transformador de la memoria colectiva, e inspirar nuestras responsabilidades para co-creando un mundo justo y humano.Many communities today continue to be haunted by conscious and unconscious memories of past atrocities as they struggle to live with the legacies of brutality and related trauma. These dehumanising events are not just recent wars, violent intercommunal conflicts, genocides, apartheid, and forced displacement, but also more distant outrages, including the occupation of indigenous lands, enslavement, and colonialism. So the trauma was transmitted from one generation to the next, and the effects of dehumanisation are kept alive in our collective memory. In this context, this article explores remembering as beyond the cognition and beyond language. It draws on the normative theory of collective memory and pays attention to remembering as the embodied and the emotional, including the ways that potent sensations and sentiments might encapsulate the unspeakable and in-articulatable experiences of loss, grief and injustice. This allows a further investigation into how remembering the past brutality can transmit and reinforce our identity, relational orientations and actions. As what we remember and how we should remember the past can determine our experience of our dignity and well-being, this article proposes that it requires the ethics of remembering aimed at enriching the healing and transformative potential of collective memory, and inspiring our responsibilities for co-creating a just and humane world

    This article analyzes the individual stories and collective experiences from members of the Uruguayan Agroecology Network. The theoretical approach highlights the link between political ecology and the sociology of bodies and emotions. It focuses on: the relationship between the productive-reproductive sphere; the relationship between the economic stages of production, distribution and consumption; the relationship with nature; community building and commonality and the Network's relationship with other organizations and with the state.  The understanding of the Network and its daily political activities allow us to reflect on the simultaneous dynamics between actions of autonomy and antagonism. This invites us to rethink the classic approach to social and socio-environmental movements as large organic, stable, hierarchical institutions, with elaborate and "consensual" discourses and actions faced with a clear "enemy" or specific demands on the State. The collective experience of the Network transforms the sensitivities of its protagonists, revaluing their modes of existence and their their relation between territories, expanding the antagonistic struggle to the defense and consolidation of autonomous processes, deploying strategies and practices that are against-and-beyond capital and neocolonial extractivism.En el presente artículo se analizan relatos individuales y vivencias colectivas de integrantes de la Red de Agroecología del Uruguay, desde un enfoque que destaca el vínculo entre la ecología política y la sociología de cuerpos y emociones. Se focaliza en: la relación entre la esfera productiva-reproductiva; la relación entre las etapas económicas de producción, distribución y consumo; la relación con la naturaleza; la construcción de comunidad y el hacer común y la relación de la Red con otras organizaciones y con el estado.  La comprensión de la Red y su hacer político cotidiano permiten reflexionar sobre las dinámicas sostenidas desde un proceso simultáneo y de potenciación mutua entre acciones de autonomía y antagonismo. Esto invita a repensar el clásico abordaje de los movimientos sociales y socioambientales como grandes institucionalidades orgánicas, estables, jerárquicas, con discursos elaborados y “consensuados” y un accionar enfrentado a un “enemigo” claro o demandas específicas al Estado. La experiencia colectiva de la Red transforma las sensibilidades de sus protagonistas, revalorizando sus modos de existencia y sus territorios, ampliando la lucha antagónica a la defensa y consolidación de procesos autónomos, desplegando estrategias y prácticas que están en-contra-y-más-allá del capital y el extractivismo neocolonial
