Cuerpos-monstruo en el Freakshow digital: entre el monstruo moral y las máquinas de guerra
Full text linkThis article elaborates a theoretical-critical itinerary to account for contemporary representations of the monstrous body, considering it as a device that challenges norms and blurs traditional categories such as identity and subjectivity. A technography and a digital ethnography of identity representations in TikTok was carried out, including archiving and classification of publications and contents of subjectivities-corporalities that correspond to two ways of being a machine and to the notion of machinic agency according to Deleuze. From this field, critical categories that emerged from that register are proposed: the incomplete, the non-binary, the disposable and the posthuman. The study suggests that TikTok can be seen as a cartography of monstrous bodies circulating online, challenging traditional notions of normality and pathology. This representation of the monstrous body is a reaction to the transformation of social norms in semiocapitalism, where the body is depathologized and the meaning of the monster acquires a double significance: that of the moral monster, trapped in normopathic logic; and that of the war machine, as a nomadic, subaltern body, which is being constructed as an artist of itself.Este artículo elabora un itinerario teórico-crítico para dar cuenta de las representaciones contemporáneas del cuerpo monstruoso, considerándolo como un dispositivo que desafía normas y desdibuja categorías tradicionales como la identidad y la subjetividad. Se realizó una tecnografía y una etnografía digital de representaciones identitarias en TikTok, que incluye archivo y clasificación de publicaciones y contenidos de subjetividades-corporalidades que corresponden a dos formas de ser máquina, y también a la noción de agenciamiento maquínico según Deleuze. A partir de este campo, se proponen categorías críticas que emergieron de dicho registro: los incompletos, los no binarios, los desechables y los posthumanos. El estudio sugiere que TikTok puede ser visto como una cartografía de cuerpos monstruosos que circulan en línea, desafiando nociones tradicionales de normalidad y patología. Esta representación del cuerpo monstruoso es una reacción a la transformación de las normas sociales en el semiocapitalismo, donde el cuerpo se despatologiza y el sentido del monstruo adquiere doble significación: la del monstruo moral, atrapado en la lógica normópata de la psicopolítica; y la de máquina de guerra, en tanto cuerpo nómada, subalterno, que se va construyendo como artista de sí mismo
Corporalidad y microagresiones capacitistas en personas con discapacidad intelectual
Full text linkDisability, interpreted through ableist conceptions, emerges as a relevant bodily characteristic for interaction and understanding of the world and in relation to the experience of discrimination. Therefore, given the diversity of bodies and functionalities diverging from the bodily standard, its study requires analyses that consider the weight that perceptibility of difference holds. With a sample of 223 participants with intellectual/developmental disabilities, the following article shows the results obtained through the Survey of Ableist Microaggressions in Easy-to-Read. Following previous research, the visibility of disability and other variables associated with it, such as the use of supports or the degree of functionality that makes them necessary, seem to impact the frequency with which this group is exposed to everyday situations of violence. Thus, non-normative corporeality categorized in terms of intellectual/developmental disabilities is, in this case, acknowledged by the population as a decisive characteristic in their (dis)consideration as members of the community and definitive for their sovereignty.La discapacidad, interpretada desde concepciones capacitistas, aparece como característica corporal relevante para la interacción y el entendimiento del mundo; también con relación a la experiencia de discriminación. Por tanto, su estudio, dada la diversidad de los cuerpos y funcionamientos alejados del estándar corporal, requiere de análisis que consideren el peso que la perceptibilidad de la diferencia tiene. El artículo presenta los resultados obtenidos a través de la Encuesta de Microagresiones Capacitistas en Lectura Fácil, para una muestra de 223 participantes con discapacidades intelectuales/del desarrollo. Coincidiendo con trabajos anteriores, la visibilidad de la discapacidad y otras variables que participan en ella, como el uso de apoyos o el grado de funcionalidad que los hace necesarios, parecen incidir en la frecuencia con la que este grupo es expuesto a situaciones cotidianas de violencia. De esta manera, la corporalidad no normativa categorizada en términos de discapacidad, intelectuales/del desarrollo en este caso, es reconocida por la propia población como decisiva en su (des)consideración como miembros de la comunidad y definitoria de su propia soberanía
Cuerpo “obrero” y cuerpo de “servicio” en la literatura médica argentina sobre cirugía plástica de la primera mitad del siglo xx
Full text linkIn this article I analyse the Argentinean medical literature on plastic surgery in the first half of the twentieth century in order to explore the intersection between body, gender and labour market. The main idea underlying this analysis is to show that plastic surgery was inserted as a medical practice that tended toperform gendered bodies that conformed to the requirements imposed by the prevailing sexual divisionof labour in that period. In the first sections, I examine a series of publications on reconstructive surgery of the hand, with the aim of showing that surgical techniques aimed at functional reconstruction in the caseof male workers and aesthetic reconstruction in the case of female patients. In the last section, I delve intothe analysis of the medical literature to show the relevance that cosmetic surgery assumes for the "modernwoman". Although this notion would seem to embody a certain openness for women in the public space,the truth is that the medical literature suggests a segregated and temporary insertion in work activities that require the display and embodiment of certain traits associated with femininity.En este artículo analizo la literatura médica argentina sobre cirugía plástica de la primera mitad del siglo XX a los efectos de explorar el cruce entre cuerpo, género y mercado de trabajo. La idea fuerza que subyace en este análisis es mostrar que la cirugía plástica se inserta como una práctica médica tendente a performar cuerpos generizados que se ajustaran a los requerimientos que imponía la división sexual del trabajo imperante en ese período. En los primeros apartados, indago una serie de publicaciones sobre cirugía reconstructiva de la mano, con la pretensión de mostrar que las técnicas quirúrgicas apuntan a una reconstrucción funcional cuando se trata de obreros de género masculino y a una reconstrucción estética cuando se trata de pacientes femeninas. Al cierre, profundizo en el análisis de la literatura médica para mostrar la relevancia que asume la cirugía estética para la “mujer moderna”. Aunque dicha noción parecería encarnar cierta apertura para las mujeres en el espacio público, lo cierto es que la literatura médica deja entrever una inserción segregada y temporal en actividades laborales que requieren del despliegue y la encarnación de ciertos rasgos asociados a la feminidad.
La performatividad del género en el arte drag queen en Costa Rica. Psycho Drag y su performance "Bajo el límpido azul de tu cielo"
Full text linkThis is a study on the performativity of gender in Costa Rica´s drag queen art representations, through the case study of the performance Bajo el límpido azul de tu cielo, developed by the Costa Rican artistic platform Psycho Drag, on the context of Costa Rica´s national elections in 2022, through the analysis of discourse andcontent in audiovisual production archives, photographic images and written text. Theoretically, it is usedthe concept of gender performativity of queer theory, mainly from Butler (1999) and Preciado (2009) butexplained from a Latin American perspective and van Dijk's theory of contexts (2009). The study allows usto understand gender, body and identity as unstable, mutable, discontinuous and transitive processes and as product of social construction through the dynamics of communication and the construction of symbols and meanings in specific contexts. In this sense, drag art becomes a historical reference for alternatives to the binary expression of gender established by the dominant cisgender and heteronormative system, which also confirms the dissident and subversive political mission of this type of art.Este documento es un estudio del discurso crítico sobre la performatividad del género en lasrepresentaciones del arte drag queen en Costa Rica, por medio del estudio de caso de la performance Bajo el límpido azul de tu cielo, desarrollada por la plataforma artística costarricense Psycho Drag, a propósito de las elecciones nacionales de Costa Rica en el año 2022. Como metodología se realiza el análisis del discurso y contenido de archivo en producción audiovisual, imagen fotográfica y texto escrito. En lo teóricoconceptual se recurre al concepto de la performatividad de género de la teoría queer, principalmente de Butler (1999) y Preciado (2009) aunque desde una perspectiva latinoamericana y la teoría de los contextos de van Dijk (2009). El estudio realizado permite comprender al género, el cuerpo y la identidad como procesos inestables, mutables, discontinuos y transitivos, producto de la construcción social por medio de la comunicación y la construcción de símbolos y significados en contextos específicos. Además, el arte drag en este sentido presenta alternativas a la expresión binaria del género establecida por el sistema cisgénero y heteronormativo dominante, lo cual confirma asimismo, la misión política disidente y subversiva de estetipo de arte
Cuerpos y emociones en el aula universitaria: análisis de la dinámica emocional en los procesos de enseñanza y/o aprendizaje a nivel de pregrado (Colombia)
Full text linkThis article is derived from doctoral research conducted at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana on the circulationof emotions within teaching and/or learning relationships in Colombian universities. The study explores anoften-overlooked dimension in education: the emotional fabric that shapes pedagogical bonds in today’suniversity context. It analyzes how emotions and affective atmospheres are produced, circulate, and arereproduced in educational settings, drawing from an epistemological perspective that combines interpretiveand socio-critical approaches, while considering the influence of market logics. Methodologically, theresearch employed a hybrid approach that integrates autoethnography and educational ethnography,supported by participant observation and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal patterns ininteractions, characterized by movements of emotional closeness and distance, mediated by identityand intersectional factors. The article proposes a theoretical model that engages with the Marxist theoryof commodity circulation, enabling an analysis of the use and exchange values assigned to emotions inpedagogical relationships. In doing so, it offers a new perspective for understanding affective dynamics inhigher education, highlighting their significance in the configuration of educational bonds.El artículo se deriva de una investigación doctoral realizada en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana sobre la circulación de las emociones en las relaciones de enseñanza y/o aprendizaje en universidades colombianas. El estudio explora una dimensión poco visibilizada en la educación: la trama emocional que configura los vínculos pedagógicos en el ámbito universitario actual. Se analiza cómo se producen, circulan y reproducen emociones y atmósferas afectivas en el contexto educativo, desde una perspectiva epistemológica que combina enfoques interpretativos y sociocríticos, considerando la influencia de las lógicas de mercado.Metodológicamente, se empleó un enfoque híbrido que integra la autoetnografía y la etnografía educativa, apoyándose en la observación participante y entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los resultados muestran patrones en las interacciones, marcados por movimientos de acercamiento y distanciamiento emocional, mediadospor factores identitarios e interseccionales. El artículo propone un modelo teórico que dialoga con la teoría marxista de la circulación de mercancías, permitiendo analizar los valores de uso y cambio asignados a las emociones en las relaciones pedagógicas. Así, ofrece una nueva perspectiva para comprender las dinámicas afectivas en la educación superior, resaltando su importancia en la configuración de los vínculos educativos

Full text linkThis essay project the figure of the female body as the main motif in La hija única, the most recent novel by Guadalupe Nettel. The body has been the motif that continues and has been present in all the plots of his narrative from different angles and circumstances. Nettel postulates the iconic and sensitive sense of the body figure as the aesthetic and cultural resource that generates and defines the importance of its image in the creative act. What is new in La hija única is to consider from the beginning the vicissitudes of one's own body, its discovery, and enigmas since its gestation and what would be the responsibilities acquired from being a mother. The only daughter redefines the female figure in its intimacy and estrangement, as well as offering us the opportunity to read and look at Guadalupe Nettel in the introspection of being a writer and mother.En este ensayo se pretende proyectar la figura del cuerpo femenino como el motivo principal en La hija única, la novela más reciente de Guadalupe Nettel. El cuerpo ha sido el motivo que se prolonga en todas las tramas de su obra desde diferentes ángulos y circunstancias. Nettel postula el sentido icónico y sensible de la figura corporal como el recurso estético y cultural que genera y define la importancia de su imagen en el acto creativo. Lo novedoso en La hija única es considerar los avatares del cuerpo desde su gestación, su descubrimiento y enigmas, y sobre cuáles serían las responsabilidades adquiridas de engendrar. Full text linkThe book "The Humanitarian Crisis in the 21st Century: Challenges of Liberal Democracies to Deal with the Humanitarian Crisis" delves into Western democracy and the international protection of human rights. Thousands of migrants, driven by war, terrorism, and political violence in their countries, seek asylum abroad. The current Western world is facing wars, ecological crises, economic recessions, and migration crises. This humanitarian crisis is further compounded by economic liberalism, which influences the actions of states, where private actors and NGOs step in to provide international protection, replacing a failing state. COVID-19, as a public health emergency of international concern, intensified feelings of hostility, distrust, and fear towards "strangers" or "foreigners," whether they are tourists or migrants. All of this leads experts to question to what extent liberal democracy is committed to overcoming the humanitarian crisis. The objective of the reviewed book is to define migration and ecological crises, as well as the positions of states in the intervention of human rights.El libro “The Humanitarian Crisis in the 21st Century: Challenges of Liberal Democracies to Deal with the Humanitarian Crisis” profundiza en la democracia occidental y la protección internacional de los derechos humanos. Miles de migrantes movilizados por la guerra, el terrorismo y la violencia política de sus países buscan asilo en el exterior. El actual mundo occidental está atravesando guerras, crisis ecológicas, recesiones económicas, y crisis migratorias. A esta crisis humanitaria se le suma un liberalismo económico que incide en el accionar de los Estados, dónde actores privados y ONGs actúan en la protección internacional sustituyendo a un Estado deficiente. El covid 19, cómo emergencia de salud pública de preocupación internacional, intensificó sentimientos de hostilidad, desconfianza y miedo frente a “extraños” o “extranjeros” sean estos turistas o migrantes. Todo lo mencionado provoca que especialistas se cuestionen hasta qué punto la democracia liberal está comprometida en la superación de la crisis humanitaria. El objetivo del libro reseñado es definir las crisis migratorias y ecológicas, así como las posiciones de los Estados en la intervención de los derechos humanos.
