THE EFFECT OF BIRTH WEIGHT WITH THE APPEARANCE OF THE PIGLETS UNTIL WEANING. The purpose of this research is to determine the corellation of birth weight with the appearance of the piglets until weaning. This research used the method of observation. Results or data obtained in this research, piglets from each parent is divided into 3 categories: high, medium, low. Retrieval of data held on a new born piglets, piglets aged 1 week until the time of weaning. Parameters observed in this research is the birth weight of piglets per head, body weight gain, the weight of piglets, and mortality (MRTA) piglets before weaned (%). Data were analyzed and presented descriptively, which is describing and explaining the general picture of direct observation. Based on the results of this research we concluded that litter size piglets, determines how high the birth weight, weaning weight, body weight gain, and mortality. The greater the birth weight more likely to obtain a high weaning weight as in this research the highest birth weight is 1.64 kg after weaning reached 7.54 kg. Keywords: Birth Weight, Piglets, Weanin
PENGARUH SUBTITUSI SEBAGIAN RANSUM DENGAN TEPUNG TOMAT (Solanum Lycopersicum L) TERHADAP BERAT TELUR, BERAT KUNING TELUR DAN MASSA TELUR AYAM RAS
EFFECT OF SOME SUBSTITUTION RATION TOMATO WITH WHEAT (SolanumLycopersicum L) ON HEAVY EGGS, WEIGHT YELLOW CHICKEN EGGS AND EGG MASS RAS. This study aims to determine the most ration with flour substitute tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum L) on egg weight, yolk weight and mass of eggs. This research was conducted at the Company's Ranch Dharma Gunawan, located in the District Kayuwatu Mapanget Manado City, from September 14 to 16 November 2014. Measuring the quality of the eggs is done in Laboratory Animal Product Technology, Faculty of Animal Sciences University of Sam Ratulangi, using 100 chickens race laying. The material is divided into 25 units of cages, each occupied 4 tails. Research design used is completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments with 5 replications. As for the level of treatment that is R0 = basic ration without using flour tomatoes, R1 = basic ration 98% + 2% tomato powder, basic ration R2 = 96% + 4% tomato powder, R3 = basic ration 94% + 6% tomato powder, R4 = basic ration 92% + 8% flour tomatoes. Variables observed included egg weight, yolk weight, and egg mass. Results of analysis of variance showed that the treatment was not significant effect (P> 0.05) on egg weight, yolk weight and mass of eggs. It can be concluded that the substitution of 2% -8% tomato powder no effect on the quality of egg weight, yolk weight and mass of eggs. Keywords: Tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum L), Egg, Chicken layin
UJI KARAKTERISTIK FISIK DAN KIMIA PAKAN LOKAL DAN IMPOR KUDA PACU MINAHASA
PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS APPRAISAL OF LOCAL AND IMPORTED RACE HORSES FEED IN MINAHASA The present study was conducted to determine the physical characteristics and nutrient content of racehorse diets both local and imported feed used mostly by race horse breeders in Minahasa region. Race horse breeding management in Indonesia fully adopts methods used in developed countries. Race horse breeders in Minahasa have been practicing of using oats as an imported ingredient to replace local feed rice. This is due to the lack of further testing of local feed, so that race horse breeders practice and rely on using imported feed ingredients to feed their horses just before the horse racing. Â A survey method was used to collect data, using interviews and direct observations on several race horses breeding farms. Types and amount of feed (forage and concentrates) both local and imported given to race horse were taken about 500gr for samples analysis. Data were statistically analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the nutrient content of imported feed ingredients significantly higher (P <0.05) compared with local feed. Physical characteristics (color, flavour, shape, and texture) of local food (rice) was significantly different (P <0.05) from that of imported feed (oats). It can be concluded that the nutrient content of imports feed is higher than that of local feed, and physical characteristics of oat and rice, different in colour, shape, aroma, and texture, on the other hand, oat and rice have the same physical shape. PEMANFAATAN LIMBAH BABI BIBIT SEBAGAI PENGHASIL BIOGAS
UTILIZATION OF BREEDING PIGS WASTE AS BIOGAS. This research has been conducted with the aim to examine the utilization of breeding pigs wastes as biogas. This research uses descriptive analysis which gas volume, temperature and acidity (pH) as the observed variables. Result of 31 days research shown that obtained total biogas volume was 151842 ml. Average temperature of outer digester was 31oC while the average temperature of inner digester was 29oC. The average of acidity (pH) in this research ranged between 6-7. Then the resulting gas passed through twice testing. The first testing shown that the resulting gas has not been able to produce fire yet because biogas is mixed with another types of gases such as CO2 and hydrogen sulfide. The second testing shown that the resulting gas can be lit with a constant and bright blue fire. Then biogas was applied to cook for 34 minutes. The results shown that to boiling 2 liters of water takes 16 minutes and spends 64037 ml of gas. Boiling 2 eggs takes 8 minutes and spends 25747 ml of gas while boiling 2 packages of instant noodles takes 10 minutes and spends 53474 ml of gas. As a conclusion of this research, waste of breeding pigs can produced biogas that can be use to cook and replace the conventional energy sources such as kerosene and firewood. PENGARUH PEMUPUKAN NITROGEN DAN TINGKAT NAUNGAN TERHADAP KANDUNGAN BAHAN KERING, SERAT KASAR DAN ABU RUMPUT Brachiaria humidicola
THE EFFECTS OF NITROGEN FERTILIZER AND SHADING LEVELS ON DRY MATTER, CRUDE FIBER AND ASH CONTENT OF Brachiaria humidicola. The aim of this experiment was to determine the effects of fertilizer different level of shading and nitrogen on the crude fiber, dry matter and ash content. The treatments consisted of four levels of nitrogen in from of urea fertilizer : P1 = 0 kg/Ha, P2 = 50 kg/Ha, P3 = 100 kg/Ha, P4 = 150 kg/Ha, and of three levels of shading : N1 = 0%, N2 = 40%, and N3 = 70%. Treatments whe arranged in factorial based on randomized block design (RBD). Data were analysis using Minitab Version 11, and followed by Tukey Simulteneous Test. The highest crude fiber content was in N1P4 coupared to other interactions. The result showed that the effect of Nitrogen fertilizer and shading were no significant on dry matter, ash and crude fiber content of B. humidicola however, the interaction of the two factor were significant only on crude fiber content. It can be concluded that the best condition was on 0% without with 150 kg Nitrogen fertilizer /Ha. Â Keyword : nitrogen, shading, dry matter, fiber, ash, humidicol
KONSUMSI DAN KECERNAAN JERAMI JAGUNG MANADO KUNING DAN JERAMI JAGUNG HIBRIDA JAYA 3 PADA SAPI PO
ABSTRACT INTAKE AND DIGESTIBILITY OF YELLOW MANADO AND JAYA 3 HYBRID CORN SRAWS FOR ONGOLE GRADE CATTLE. Experiment was conducted to determine the intake capacity and digestibility of Manado yellow corn straw (MYCS) and Jaya 3 hybrid corn straw (J3HCS) as single feed for Ongole grade cattle (OGC). Five female OGC were used in this experiment, applied into two periods. The animals were fed with MYCS in the first stage and J3HCS in the second stage. The measured variables were including dry matter intake (DMI), dry matter digestibility (DMD), digestibility of crude protein (DCP) and digestibility of Neutral Detergent Fiber (DNDF). The data were analyzed by T test. The results showed that treatment significantly affected (p <0.05) the DMI, DMD, DCP and DNDF. It can be concluded DMI, DMD, DCP and DNDF of MYCS were higher than those of J3HCS. Â Key words: Dry matter Intake, Digestibility, Corn straw, Ongole grade cattle. Â
IDENTIFIKASI KARAKTERISTIK ALAT PENCERNAAN KELELAWAR PTEROPUS ALECTO DI SULAWESI BAGIAN UTARA
CHARACTERISTICS IDENTIFY OF THE DIGESTIVE ORGANS OF BAT (PTEROPUS ALECTO) IN NORTHERN SULAWESI. The study aimed to classify Pteropus alecto (Black flying foxes=paniki yaki), based on the type of feed and the digestive system. A Descriptive explorative method was used in this study. The primary data, consist of animals sample, and of laboratory identification of the shapes physical morphology and size of digestive organs. The secondary data was taken by collecting the information from bat origin region, or its habitat. The results showed, the general characteristics of bat (Pteropus alecto), both male and female were performed a hairy color black in all parts of  the body (except in the wings), it has no tail, the face shape resembles a dog or fox, has sharp curved claws on thumb, also on both toes, for hanging. The body length of the observed P. alecto were ±16.4 cm (♀) and ±22.5 cm (♂), with the body weight was ± 719,87 g on male, heavier than females (± 526.5 g). The profiles gastrointestinal organs of bat, viz: the teeth, stomach, intestine, and colon. Yhe teeth formula, were I = 2/2; C = 1/1; Pm = 2/2; M = 3/4, the number of overall teeth were 34. The digestive tract organs of bat (P. alecto) were suspected bigger, longer, and heavier, than other frugivore bat types, where the length of the stomach were ± 8.45 cm (♂) and 8.04 (♀), the length of the small intestine were ± 289.3 cm (♀) and 302.42 cm (♂), and the colon were ± 24.13 cm (♀) and 27.3 cm (♂). The mostly feed types being eaten by P. alecto, namely: papaya (Carica papaya), banana (Musa paradisica), mango (Mangifera indica), soursop (Annona muricata), guava (Psidium guajava) and coconut flower (Cocos nucifera) It is oncluded, bat (Pteropus alecto) has a digestive organs system which generally similar to other monogastric animals, but it has no cecum, and no space for fermentative digestion, and where it main feed is fruits, so it can be categorized as frugivores herbivores monogastric animal (non pseudo-ruminant). IDENTIFIKASI TINGKAH ALPHA MALE MONYET HITAM (Macaca nigra) DI CAGAR ALAM TANGKOKO
IDENTIFICATION OF ALPHA MALE BLACK MONKEY (Macaca nigra) BEHAVIOR IN THE NATURE RESERVE TANGKOKO. This study aims to get the latest specific data regarding behavior Alpha male / Rambo dominant male in the group 1 in the nature reserve Tangkoko. Materials used 1 Monkey Black Male Dominant (Alpha Male) in group 1 residing Rambo in Tangkoko Nature Reserve Batuangus Bitung, North Sulawesi. The data obtained are analyzed and presented descriptively in the form of graphs or histograms. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded as follows: (1) The most long-standing activity Alpha Male / Male Dominance in the morning is locomotion and foraging and agonistic. During the day are: foraging, locomotion, grooming, and inactive. (2) Activities are at least done either in the morning or during the day is the mating activity (coitus). PENGARUH PENGGANTIAN SEBAGIAN JAGUNG DENGAN TEPUNG KULIT PISANG RAJA (Musa paradisiaca) DALAM RANSUM TERHADAP PERFORMAN BROILER
ABSTRACT EFFECT OF SUBSTITUTION OF YELLOW CORN WITH BANANA (Musa paradisiaca) PEELS IN THE DIETS ON BROILER PEERFORMANCE. A study has been conducted to determine the effect of substitution of yellow corn with banana (Musa paradisiaca) peels in the diets on broiler performance. The present study used 60 broiler chicks and reared for 5 weeks. A Completely Randomized Design was used as an experimental design with 4 treatments and 5 replications. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0: diet without substitution of banana peels or 0% in the diet; R1: diet with the substitution of 7,5% or 4,28% in the diet; R2: diet with the substitution of 15,0% or 8,55% in the diet; and R3: diet with the substitution of 22,5% or 12,83% in the diet. Variables measured were: daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion. Research results showed that daily feed consumption, daily gain, and feed conversionratio were all significantly (P < 0,05) affected by treatments. Daily feed consumption at R3 significantly (P < 0,05) lower compared with R0 and R1 treatments, but no differences (P > 0,05) were observed between R2 and R3. No significant (P > 0,05) was observed between R0 and R1, but there was a significant difference (P < 0,05) between R2 and R3 and between R1 and R2. Feed conversion ratio was significantly (P < 0,05) lower for R0 compared with R1, R2 and R3, but no differences (P > 0,05) were observed among R0, R1, and R2 treatments. It can be concluded that banana (Musaparadisiaca) peels meal can be used up to 15% replacing yellow corn or 8,55% in broiler diet. PENGARUH PENGGANTIAN TEPUNG IKAN DENGAN TEPUNG MAGGOT (Hermetia illucens) DALAM RANSUM TERHADAP PERFORMANS BROILER
ABSTRACT EFFECT OF SUBSTITUTION OF FISH MEAL WITH MAGGOT (Hermetia illucens) IN THE DIETS ON BROILER CHICKEN PERFORMANCE. Maggots (maggot meal) have been widely studied as a good alternative to fish meal in broiler chicken and pigs. The present study was designed to elaborate the effect of substituting fish meal with maggot (Hermetia illucens) meal in the diets on feed efficiency of broiler chicken. Eighty day old chicks (DOC) broiler chicks were placed in battery cages and were assigned to each dietary treatment (5 treatments) which was replicated four times in a completely randomized design (CRD) arrangement anddatawere all submitted to the ANOVA procedure. Differences were considered significant at P< 0.05. Diets were formulated to meet or exceed starter and finisher broiler requirements as recommended by NRC (1994). Treatment diets were formulated as follow: R0 = 100.0% fish meal (15.0% in the diet) + 0% maggot meal (0% in the diet); R1 = 75% fish meal (11.25% in the diet) + 25.0% maggot meal (3.75% in the diet); R2 = 50.0% fish meal (7.5% in the diet) + 50.0% maggot meal (7.5% in the diet); R3 = 25.0% fish meal (3.75% in the diet) + 75.0% maggot meal (11.25% in the diet); and R4 = 0% fish meal (0% in the diet) +100.0% maggot meal (15.0% in the diet). Parameters measured were: feed consumption, daily gain, and feed efficiency ratio. Research results showed that feed consumption, daily gain, and feed efficiency ratio of starter and finisher broiler chicks in the present study were significantly decreased as maggot meal substituted fish meal at the level of 100% or 15.0% in the diet (R4). It can be concluded that maggot (Hermetia illucens) mealcould replace fish meal up to 75.0% or 11,25% in the diet without any negative effects on feed efficiency ratio of broiler chicken.
