    THE EFFECT OF USING SWEET POTATO LEAVES (VINES) IN RATIONS ON DIGESTIBILITY FAT AND CRUDE FIBER IN PIGS. Pig livestock is one of the commodities that has great potential to be developed because it has beneficial properties, namely the ability of pigs to convert food ingredients more efficiently. A study has been carried out to determine the effect of using sweet potato leaves (vines) in rations on digestibility fat and crude fiber in pigs. This research was conducted for 50 days, from June 20 to August 9, 2017. This study used 5 (five) castrated male pigs from crosses of Duroc X Spotted Poland China around 3.5-4.0 months old, 30 kg initial weight: The treatment ration formulated as follows: R0 = 100% Basic Ration + 0% Leaves and Stems of Sweet Potatoes R1 = 92.5% Basic Ration + 7.5% Sweet Potato Flour and Stems R2 = 85% Basic Ration + 15% Sweet Potato Leaf and Stem Flour R3 = 77.5% Basic Ration + 22.5% Leaf and Stem Flour Sweet Potato R4 = 70% Basic Ration + 30% Leaf Flour and Sweet Potato Flour. Parameters observed were fat and crude fiber digestibility. The use of sweet potato leaves and stems flour did not have significant effect (P> 0.05) on the digestibility value of crude fiber and fat. The use of sweet potato leaves and stems gave significantly different effects (P <0.05) on the digestibility value of crude fiber and fat or at least one different pair. It can be concluded that the leaves and stems of sweet potatoes (vines) can be used up to 30% in the ration of castrated male pigs. without negative effects on fat digestibility and crude fiber ration. Keywords: sweet potato leaves, digestibility, pi

    UTILIZATION OF YELLOW PUMPKIN WASTE PRODUCT (Cucurbita moschata) IN RATION OF LAYING HENS ON INTERNAL EGG CHARACTERISTICS. The aim of this research is to know the effect of the use of yellow pumpkin flour/waluh (cucurbita moschata) in laying chicken feed against egg white index, egg yolk index, and yolk color. This study used 100 laying chickens aged 42 weeks. This research was conducted at Animal Product Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Sam Ratulangi University. The observed variables consisted of egg white index, yolk index and yolk color. The method used is a complete randomized design consisting of five treatments and 5 replications. The treatment is the replacement of yellow pumpkin flour, with each treatment is R0 = Basic ration without using yellow pumpkin flour, R1 = Ration 98% 2% yellow pumpkin flour, R2 = base ration 96% + 4% yellow pumpkin flour, R3 = base ration 94% + 6% yellow pumpkin flour, R4 = base ration 92% + 8% yellow pumpkin flour. The results showed that the use of yellow pumpkin flour at level 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% in the ration gave no significant effect (P> 0.05) on egg white index, yolk index, and yolk color. The conclusion is that the use of pumpkin flour waste up to 8% level in laying chicken feed gives the same result to egg white index, yolk index and yolk color.Key words: Pumpkin waste, egg, hen

    UTILIZATION OF GOROHO BANANA PEEL FLOUR (Musa acuminafe, L) IN RATION ON EGG PRODUCTION PERFORMANCE OF LAYING HENS.  The objective of this study was to evaluate the utilization goroho banana peel flour (Musa acuminafe, L) in ration on production performance of laying hens (strain of MB 402). Total of 100 laying hens (strain of MB 402) at the age of 36 weeks old were used in this study. Treatments were using basal ration without goroho banana peel flour (R0), basal ration of 98% added with goroho banana peel flour of 2% (R1), basal ration of 96% added with goroho banana peel flour of 4% (R2), basal ration of 94% added with goroho banana peel flour of 6% (R3), and basal ration of 92% added with goroho banana peel flour of 8% (R4). Each treatment was replicated in to 5 replications. Variables measured were including feed consumption (g/head/day), egg production (%), and feed conversion. Completely randomized design was applied the research method with Duncan’s multiple range test for the significance treatments affecting variables. Results showed that utilization goroho banana peel flour (Musa acuminafe, L) in ration did not significantly affect on feed consumption, egg production and feed conversion. Therefore, it can be concluded that utilization goroho banana peel flour (Musa acuminafe, L) in ration up to 8 percents might be applied in ration of laying hens (strain of MB 402).   Keywords: Egg production, performance, goroho banana peel flour, laying hen

    TIMOR DEER'S DAILY ACTIVITY (Cervus timorensis) AT THE AERTEMBAGA TANDURUSA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY, BITUNG-NORTH SULAWESI. This study aims to describe the daily activities and behavior of Timor deer (Cervus timorensis) at the Tandurusa Wildlife Sanctuary in Aertembaga, Bitung City, North Sulawesi Province. This research was expected to provide information for the community and related agencies about the behavior in supporting the captive breeding business. This study used observation methods requiring direct observation of the field and using techniques Instantinous Animal Sampling. Observations were made 14 repetitions by observing daily activity in 1 minute intervals (60 seconds) on each data retrieval. The results of this study showed the daily feeding activity of Cervus timorensis with a percentage of 17.01% used 32.86 minutes in the morning and 37.86 minutes at noon and 51.79 minutes in the afternoon. The Cervus timorensis’ daily activity was dominated by rest activity with a percentage of 57.52% of total daily activity, divided in 143.57 minutes in the morning, 141.92 minutes at noon and 128.64 minutes in the afternoon. Social activity with a percentage of 18.31% of total spent time, divided in 46.78 minutes spent in the morning 44.5 minutes spent at noon and 40.57 minutes spent in the afternoon. Locomosi activity with a percentage of 7.15% of all time, divided into 16.78 minutes used in the morning 15.71 minutes used in the afternoon and 19 minutes used in the afternoon.Keywords: Daily activity, Timor deer, Tandurusa Wildlife Sanctuary, North Sulawes

    ABSTRACTEXPEDIENCY OF INCREASING PIG POPULATION BY ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION TECHNIQUE IN NORTH SULAWESI PROVINCE.The objective of this study was to evaluate dominant factors affecting pig population breeding by artificial insemination (AI) in North Sulawesi province. Semen of boar (Landrace, Yorkshire and Duroc breeds) were usedto mate the same breeds using AI.Data of 345 piglets from 33 sows were involved in this study. Reproductive data of sows and productivity of piglet form AI were observed at laboratory and field belonging to farmers in Minahasa regency. Pair data of male and female effect were analyzed by t-test for variables.Dominant reproduction factors affecting pig population breeding in North Sulawesi were includingservice per conception, Farrowing rate, AI service efficiency, and Farrowing index.Group of male and superior piglets were higher in productivity that those of female and inferior piglets. Preweaning Average Daily Gain (PW-ADG)groups of inferior (84.85g/h/d)were significantly lower compared with normal (86.59g/h/d), butnot significantly different with PW-ADG of superior birth weight group (85.64 g/h/d).PW-ADG.Thelitter size produced from semen bya boar naturally mated with the same sowsreached the average of 21 piglets per year, while those by a boar mated using AI technique with the same sowsreached the average of 225 piglets per year. Keywords:Artificial insemination.     EFFECT OF REPLACEMENT OF CORN WITH SORGUM Cv. KAWALI IN PELLET RANSUM ON LOCAL RABBIT PERFORM. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of substitution corn with sorghum in rabbit rations on feed consumption, body weight gain, and ration conversion. The duration of the study was 28 days using 20 local rabbits. The statistical design used in this study was a completely randomized design, with 4 (four) treatment rations and 5 (five) replications. The four experimental rations, namely R0: 45% corn + 0% sorghum, R1: 30% corn + 15% sorghum, R2 15% corn + 30% sorghum, R3 0% corn + 45% sorghum. Variables were measured, viz: feed consumption, body weight gain and ration conversion. The results showed that the average of feed consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion, were: 28.27–30.59 g /head /day, 15.76–21.55 g / head /day, and 1.42-1.80 g /head /day, respectively. Based on the analysis of variance, the treatments ration had no significant effect (P> 0.05) on consumption, but had a very significant effect (P <0.01) on body weight gain and feed conversion. The LSD test showed that all treatment rations using sorghum (R1, R2, and R3) gave results of body weight gain which were very significantly different (P <0.01) and higher than R0. Whereas, on ration conversion, treatments R1, R2, and R3 give very different results (P <0.01) lower than R0. It is concluded that the substitution of corn with sorghum at the level of 45% in the ration gives the highest results for body weight gain and conversion of rations for rabbits. Keywords: corn, sorghum, ration, performance, local rabbi

    THE EFFECT OF ADDITION OF RAMUAN IN DRINKING WATER ON CARCASS PERCENTAGE, ABDOMEN FAT  PERCENTAGE  AND HEART  PERCENTAGE OF AYAM KAMPUNG SUPER. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of herbs mixed in water added to percentage of carcass, fat abdomen and heart of “ayam kampung superâ€. This research used a 84 of chicken at five weeks old.The Herbs were garlic (allium sativum l.), kencur (kaempferia galangal l.), turmeric (curcuma domestika val.), temulawak (curcuma xanthorhiza roxb), ginger (zingiber officinale roscoe), leaf leaves (piper better linn) and mahkota dewa (phaleria macrocarpa boerl). The extracted herbs were mixed with palm sugar and fermented with EM4. The complete randomized design consist of 3 treatments and 7 replications were used as methods. The treatment were formulated as follow R0= drinking water without addition of herbs, R1= 1 liter water + 2.5 of mL herbs, R2= 1 liter drinking water + 5 mL of herbs. Research result showed that the addition of herbs 2.5 mL and 5 mL in drinking water shows no significant effect (P >0.05) on the percentage of carcass and liver percentage, but there was an increase in the percentage of carcass in treatment of R1 and R2. While the treatment gave a high significantly effect (P <0.01) on the percentage of abdominal fat. The conclusion of this research is the giving of herbs up to 5 mL added to drinking water does not cause the percentage change of carcass and liver percentage but the giving 5 mL of herbs decrease of abdominal fat percentage of “ayam kampung superâ€. Key words: Super local chicken, herbs, percentage carcass, percentage of abdominal fat, percentage liver

    UTILIZATION OF ORANGE SWEET POTATOES   FLOUR (Ipomoea trifida) AS A SUBSTITUTE OF CORN TO THE PERCENTAGE OF CARCASS, ABDOMINAL FATS AND LIVER ORGANS OF AYAM KAMPUNG SUPER. This study aims to determine the percentage of replacement of some corn with orange sweet potato flour (Ipomoea trifida) in ration   and its effect on carcass, abdominal fat and liver of super native chicken. This research used a 80 of chiken at six week old. Complete Randomized Design consist of 4 treatments and 5 replication were used as methods. The tratment were formulated as follow R0 Ration witout addition of orange sweet potatoes flour, R1 57% corn + 2.5 orange sweet potatoes flour, R2 55% corn + 5% orange sweet potatoes flour, R3 52.5 % corn + 7.5 % orange sweet potatoes flour. Research result showed that the addition of 2.5- 7.5% orange sweet potatoes flour in ration shows significant difference (P<0,05) on the percentage of carcass, where treatment using orange sweet potatoes flour up to 7.5% could increase the percentage of carcass. The treatment gave high sinificantly effect (P<0.01) on the percentage of abdominal fat. Percentage of liver on this research shows no sinificant effect (P>0.05). The conclution of this research is the giving of orange sweet potatoes can be used as substitution of corn untuil 7.5 % in ration because it can increase percentage of carcass, decrease of abdominal fat percentage and does not interfere.function of liver of  super native chicken.key words: orange sweet potatoes, a super native chicke

    NITROGEN RETENTION AND METABOLIC ENERGY BROILER RATIONS CONTAINING SILAGE KEPOK BANANA PEEL MEAL. Banana peel is a potential waste used as feed because their numbers are abundant and have the nutrients needed livestock. This study aims to determine the value of nitrogen retention (NR) and nitrogen corrected metabolizable energy value (AMEN) broiler ration containing silage kepok flour banana peel. This study involved 20 birds of broiler strains of Cobb at 6 weeks old. The completely randomized design was applied using four treatments and five replications for each treatment. The treatments were assigned into ration of 55 % corn without peel silage of kepok banana (R0), ration of 46.75% corn with 8.25% peel silage of kepok banana (R1), ration of 38.5% corn with 16.5% peel silage of kepok banana (R2), ration of 30.25% corn with 24.75% peel silage of kepok banana (R3). Variables measured were including nitrogen retention (NR) and nitrogen adjusted metabolic energy (AMEn). Results of analysis of variance showed that treatment significantly different (P <0.05) on nitrogen retention value and highly significant (P <0.01) against the value AMEn. Based on this study it can be concluded that the banana peel silage kepok flour (Musa paradisiaca formatypica)   can be used as one of alternative feed ingredients in the ration of broiler replace up to 30% corn 16.5% in the ration seen from Value Retention N (69.68%) while viewed from the AMEn (2924.92 kcal/kg) reimbursement to 15% or 8.25% in the ration. Key word: Kepok banana peel silage, N retention, metabolizable energy, broilers

    ABSTRACTNITROGEN RETENTION AND METABOLIC ENERGY OF BROILER CHICKEN RATION USING SORGHUM MEAL (Sorghum bicolor (L). moench) AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR CORN. The aims of this study was to determine the value of Nitrogen Rretention (RN) and Nitrogen-Corrected Metabolic Energy (AMEn) rations using sorghum meal as a substitute for corn in broiler chickens. The study was carried out using 20 broiler strain Cobb aged six weeks consisting of six preliminary days and four days of data collection. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used which is consisting of five treatments and four replications. The treatments used are: R0 = substitute 100% corn or sorghum 0%, R1 = substitute 25% corn or sorghum 12.5%, R2 = substitute 50% corn or sorghum 25%, R3 = substitute 75% corn or sorghum 37.5%, and R4 = substitute 100% corn orsorghum 50%. The variables observed were the Nitrogen Retention value (RN) and Nitrogen Corrected Metabolic Energy (AMEn). Study showed that RN value of R0 (63.38%), R1 (65.69%), R2 (70.76%), R3 (70.77%), R4 (68.03%) and AMEn R0 (2417 , 14 Kkl / kg), R1 (2331.17 Kkl / kg), R2 (2157.87 Kkl / kg), R3 (2261.17 Kkl / kg) R4 (2290.02 Kkl / kg). he treatment gave no significant effect (P> 0.05) on RN value and AMEn. Based on this study it can be concluded that sorghum flour can replace corn to 100% or use 50% in broiler ration seen from the N retention value (68.03%) and AMEn value (2290.02 Kkl / kg).Keywords :     Broiler chicken, corn, metabolic energy, nitrogen retention, sorghu
