    This study attempted to investigate the strategies used by high school students in writing Arabic compositions, problems they confronted, and differences strategies used by the students with highest and lowest scores. The samples of this study were fifth-grade students of Darussalam Islamic Boarding School, i.e., three students with high achievements and three with low ones. Data collection techniques were used, namely thinking-aloud protocol, interview and observation. Specific processes and strategies were categorized using coding schemes adopted from Yap (1999). The result of this study revealed that the problems mostly faced by the students in writing an Arabic composition were understanding the topic and generating the idea to create a good sentence. Moreover, the study found that students were unable to select proper words, to figure out appropriate sentences and to construct simple sentences.     This research aimed to analyze the phonological errors made by the students of Arabic department when processing of  learning activity about reading skill. The research design used in this research was content analysis. The data collection method used was listening method with free listening-speaking technique, writting technique and recording technique. The result of this research showed up that the students’ phonological errors that often occured were on fricative sound such as   (حذصظش خ and ف)  whereas for the explosion sound was on ض ط and ق. Among of those errors, the most difficult and the biggest errors were ع and ض

    This study was a descriptive and semantic analysis of the Arabic Prepositions من، إلى، عن، على، في، الباء، اللام translated into Malay language in the novel Masrur & Makrur. Its main aims are to identify the strategies and styles used to translate the prepositions and to analyze their meanings, semantic functions in verbal phrase (collocations and idioms) which were translated into Malay.  This study applied the Dynamic, Semantic and Communicative Theories as well as the Relevance Theory to perform the analysis process. The results showed that the Arabic and Malay (translation) prepositions consisted of grammatical categories which cannot be translated into direct lexical.  Instead, there was a need to look at sentence structure, syntax, grammatical rules, and semantics aspects as the more suitable contexts because these prepositions did not show their meanings unless they were used with other phrases

    This study aimed to identify the contents of listening and reading skills in the Arabic textbook “Durus al-Lughah al-Arabiyah.” This study was conducted qualitatively and employed a descriptive analysis technique. The population was the Arabic textbook which applied 2013 Curriculum for the tenth graders at the Islamic senior high schools. Data collection procedures involved making the checklist, analyzing the contents of the textbook, coding, tabulating data, and concluding. The research found both listening and reading skill materials in the textbook was sufficient according to Abd al-Rahman al-Fauzan. However, there were still some weaknesses. There were no introductory materials about the sound and the introduction of the long and short vowels. In addition, the CD/recording was unavailable for listening. Lastly, there was no picture in each title to help students’ comprehension. But, the content of listening and reading skills in the textbook were relevant to 2013 Curriculum for Arabic language subject

    This study attempted to prove the influence of the use of the word square in teaching vocabulary at MTsN I South Tangerang City, i.e., to prove students’ ability of two classes, before and after using the learning model of word square in teaching learning vocabulary. The research is descriptive-quantitative using the experimental method. The sample of this study was the students of VIII-8 and VIII-11 class  in the academic year of 2016-2017. Data collection techniques were observation, interview, vocabulary test, and questionnaire for students of the experimental class. Based on the results of data analysis, the average score of the experimental class was 16,11 and the average score of the control class was 10,65. The score of to was 2,70 and the score of tt was 1,67;  then, to was greater than  tt. Thus, the use of learning model of word square in teaching vocabulary was significantly effective

    This study aimed to describe the form of speech acts used in the Surah Yûsuf. When having a dialogue Yûsuf adjusts what form of speech acts will be used for the intended purpose to the interlocutor, and in accordance with the situation and circumstances when the speech occurs. What Yûsuf intends when speaking is different from his formal form of speech. First, the formal form of declarative aimed to request, clarify, convince, inform, warn, defend, and be grateful. Second, the formal form is imperative but can serve to honor, reject, recognition, defense, command. Third, its formal form is interrogative but can serve to resist and ask. Additionally, the Surah Yûsuf obeys Grice’s maxims of principles of cooperation and Leech\u27s politeness scale: maxim quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of appreciation, maxim of relevance, maxim of sympathy, maxim of wisdom, maxim of simplicity (humble), maxim of consent, and maxim of generousity

    This article described that textbooks used in higher education as a part of the standards of learning material. The learning material did not meet the national standards of higher education if universities did not have a learning material in the form of textbook. One important aspect in writing a textbook was its compliance with grammar. This article attempted to analyze the syntactic errors contained in the textbook, al-Mahir al-Istima fi Tatbiq wa al-Kalam, published by Center of Language Development at IAIN Surakarta. The forms of syntactic errors and the correction of the errors were the focuses of this research. This study used the error analysis. The research found  that a syntactic error found in the reading passages were eight forms of errors in isim isyarah (the most one), na‘at-man‘ut, fa‘il, isim maushul, jawab syarat, khabar, ‘athaf-ma‘thuf, and na’ib al-fa‘il. Lastly, this textbook was therefore recommended to be revised

    KOMPETENSI PROFESIONAL GURU BAHASA ARAB MADRASAH ALIYAH NEGERI (MAN) DI JAKARTA

    This study aimed to reveal the professional competence of Arabic language teachers of MAN Jakarta,  in the aspects of the content of Arabic Skills, as well as their professional competence according to the Principal of MAN,  colleagues and the assessment of students.  Data collection techniques used were: questionnaire,  interview,  observation,  analysis of content/documents,  test,  and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results showed that the professional competence of the teachers on the mastery of the material were on the category of "less".  This was supported by the average score of the test results of their Arabic language i. e.,  52. 23.  While professional competence based on assessment of Principal was "good/high" with the average score of 4. 6,  the perspective of colleagues was "good/high” (average score 4).  Based on students’ perspective, the professional competency of the Arabic language teacher at MAN Jakarta was "excellent/very high" with the average score of 90

    The article aimed to study the phenomenon of overlapping literary genres in the Arabic literary works by identifying the types of literary genres and providing examples of the premises of Budaiya and Hariri, to draw the distinction made by this artistic phenomenon, and to make the most of it. The research ended with several results. The most important one was that Badi\u27uz-Zaman al-Hamdani succeeded in inventing a new art in Arabic literature, the art of establishing. This achievement was undoubtedly great and recorded by the scholars. However, the completion of Budaiya did not stop at this limit. It had also succeeded in creating an artistic phenomenon which did not pay attention to the past scholars’ views — i.e., the phenomenon of overlapping literary genres. Moreover, his student, Hariri, developed it. The authors were able to employ it to achieve their artistic, linguistic and social goals
