    Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine: (1) the relationship between higher order thinkingskills (metacognition and critical thinking skills) to the biology learning outcomes and (2) effectivelycontribution of higher thinking skills to the biology learning outcomes. The study was conducted in theodd semester of the school year 2011/2012 at four elementary schools in Ternate. The research resultsshowed: (1) there is a positive relationship between higher order thinking skills to the biology learningoutcomes and (2) average 86% of a biology learning outcomes is influenced by academic ability, particularly higher thinking skills. Critical thinking skills have a greater effective contribution to the  biologylearning outcomes than metacognition skills.Keywords: higher order thinking skills, critical thinking skills, metacognitive skill, biology learning outcome

    Abstract: This two cycles of classroom action research had been conducted at state Junior High School 1 Lumajang, from April to June 2010, to encourage student motivation and cognitive achievement in biology. Research result showed that student motivation increased as much as 8,43% from cycle 1 to cycle 2, and at the same time students cognitive achievement increased as much as 12%.The contextual problem-based learning cycle can be used as an alternative learning model for students with low motivation and low cognitive achievement

    Abstract: This study aims to determine the differences of motivation and student’slearningresult wichlearning by Quantum Teaching with Mind Mapping techniques and by Conventional learning. The kindused of this study is quasy eksperimental with pretest-posttest control group design.These results indicate that: (1) there is biological differences in student’s motivation between student which learning byusing Quantum Teaching with Mind Mapping techniques and by using Conventional learningthat is5,56% and (2) there is biological differences in student’s learning result between students whichlearning by using Quantum Teaching with Mind Mapping techniques and by using Conventional learningthat is 13,57%

    Abstact: to encourage student on critical thinking ability in biology. This research had been carried out to investigate the influence of PBL through learning study PQ4R about critical thinking ability. This research design used was quasi experiment. This type of research is to experiment with Pre-test and Post-test Control Group Design, using one class each of control and experiment. Reseach the conclusions are the Learning Strategy used has great influence on the critical thinking ability well in biology. Based on the research result, it is suggested to the educator or teacher to apply learning strategy that emphasize on the critical thinking development to promote the self regulated learners.

    Abstract: The objective of this research were to analyze and describe the effect of inquiry, learning community, and entry behavior toward cognitive achievement of Senior High School Students of Bengkulu. The research showed that: (1) there was no difference of students’ cognitive learning achievement with CTL through inquiry level 1 and level 2 strategy and (2) there was a difference of students’ cognitive learning achievement with CTL through intended learning community and extended learning community. The result with LSD test revealed that, students’ cognitive learning achievement with CTL through extended learning community was better than those with intended learning community

    Abstract: The study was conducted to the people living in the radius of 500–1000 meter in tidal area of conservation area of Mangrove forest. The research design of this study was descriptive quantitative in order to describe the knowledge, attitude, and behavior manifestation of society in preserving Gastropoda. Correllational descriptive design was employed to describe the relationship between knowledge and attitude and behavior manifestation of society in preserving Gastropoda. The respondents were obtained by purposive sampling technique. The data analysis was conducted in SPSS 16 for Windows. The result of study showed that: (1) mean of knowledge level was high (75,65%), attitude was moderate (69,37%), and behavior manifestation was high (82,44%) and (2) meanwhile, the result of analysis for knowledge, attitude with behavior manifestation of society in preserving Gastropoda Mangrove forest in Tarakan showed that there was significant correlation
