Blue swimming crab is one of the capture fisheries sector leading commodities in Banten Bay which is caught using gill nets and collapsible traps. The risk of lost fishing gears during operation is very high, both due to the bad weather and interactions with other fishing gear. The Abandoned, Lost or Discarded Fishing Gear (ALDFG) contributes significantly to the abundance of marine plactics in the world which has a negative impact on the sustainability of fish resources, water quality and endangers the safety of navigation. Nevertheless, there have been no mitigation activities and efforts to reduce ALDFG in the Banten Bay. This study aims to identify the global causes of lost fishing gear derived from blue swimming crab fisheries in Banten Bay. Data were collected around the Archipelagic Fishing Port (PPN) of Karangantu in May-June 2022. In-depth interviews were conducted with 28 respondents who were selected purposively and the results were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that generally, the causes of lost gear were conflicts with other fishing gear which constitute 64%, whilst human errors during fishing operations and bad weather contributed 19% and 17%, respectively. Purse seine fishing gear is designed to catch both large and small pelagic fish, and commonly used in tuna fisheries. However, this gear is not size-selective, and can pose a threat to fish stocks. The aim of this study was to obtain information on the biological characteristics of little tuna (Euthynnus affinis) caught by purse seiners operating in the waters of Herlang District in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data collected from March to May 2019 included little tuna fork length (FL), weight, sex, and gonad maturity stage (GMS). Fish characteristics analysed in this study were length-weight relationship, size distribution, life phase, and gonadal maturity. Analyses were performed in MS Excel 2010 and Graphpad Prism v.5.03. Male and female little tuna had isometric growth patterns. Modal length class was 24.0-24.4 cm for males and 23.0-23.4 cm for females. All fish caught were below 30 cm TL, while the mean size at first maturity for this species is 39.8 cm. Although the catch was dominated by immature fish (GMS I and GMS II), all GMS stages were present for both sexes, with around a third of females in GMS III-V.

The MEKANISASI BAGAN TANCAP MENGGUNAKAN ROLLER PENGANGKAT JARING DI PANGANDARAN, JAWA BARAT
Pangandaran is located in the southern coast of the Java Island. Some of Pangandaran fishers operate lift net (bagan) to catch fish and shrimp. During hauling process, the net is lifted manually using a roller that potentially harm the fishers. The purpose of this study was to design a mechanical roller that applicable for lift net. The analysis of design requirement, such as calculation of torque, horse power, and reduction power with gear mechanism for operating the roller were applied in this research. The results showed that the net lifting operation required 4.8 HP or 3.6 KW of diesel engine to power a hydraulic pump. For the maximum load, when the net is fully loaded with fish, the operation required 67.91 HP or 50.64 KW. It means power from the diesel motor was not enough to support at maximum load. Therefore, a gear mechanism with a ratio of 1:14 was applied. However, this method reduces the angular speed of the gear which leads to reduction on net pulling speed.
