Building Islamic Character in Students Through the One Day Boarding Program: Pembentukan Karakter Islami Siswa Melalui Program One Day Boarding
General background: The current era presents significant moral challenges, highlighting the critical role of character education in preparing students for a valuable life in society. Specific background: This study investigates the "One Day Boarding" program at Muhammadiyah Middle Schools and MTs in Sidoarjo, which aims to form and strengthen students' Islamic character based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. Knowledge gap: While the importance of character education is well-established, there is limited specific research on how a specialized "one day boarding" model is systematically implemented to achieve this goal within an Islamic school context. Aims: This research explores the concept and implementation of the program and its role in building students’ Islamic character. Results: The findings show that the "One Day Boarding" program is implemented through a systematic, integrated approach that includes religious practices and character-building activities. It successfully integrates cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Novelty: This research provides a detailed, qualitative case study of a specific character-building program, offering a practical model for other educational institutions. Implications: The findings suggest that a structured program, supported by curriculum integration and dedicated educators, can effectively address the need for moral and religious character formation.

Competitive Strategies of Private Islamic Higher Education in Sidoarjo: Strategi Kompetitif Pendidikan Tinggi Islam Swasta di Sidoarjo
General Background: The growing competition among higher education institutions requires Islamic universities to develop strong competitive strategies. Specific Background: Private Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (PTKIS) in Sidoarjo represent a significant portion of Islamic universities in Indonesia, yet their competitive edge remains underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have not sufficiently addressed how PTKIS transform their strengths into marketable advantages in alignment with both Marx’s commodification theory and Porter’s strategic management framework. Aims: This study aims to analyze and reveal the competitive advantages of PTKIS through differentiation, cost leadership, and focus strategies. Results: Findings show PTKIS A emphasizes differentiation, while PTKIS B prioritizes cost-focused strategies. Both institutions commodify their advantages through curriculum innovation, industry-based programs, partnerships, human resource development, technology adoption, marketing, and superior student services. Novelty: The research highlights how PTKIS commodify competitive advantages into tangible educational products and services, offering a unique insight into the intersection of Islamic education and market-oriented strategies. Implications: The study provides a practical reference for higher education institutions and policymakers to strengthen strategic positioning, attract students, and ensure institutional sustainability.

Ar-Rahman Method in Improving Al-Quran Reading Skills: Metode Ar-Rahman dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Membaca Al-Quran

Knowledge Gap: Despite the growing number of Quranic learning methods, limited studies have examined the implementation of the Ar-Rahman method within semi-modern Islamic boarding schools. Aim: This study aims to describe and analyze the implementation of the Ar-Rahman method in improving students’ ability to read the Al-Quran. Results: The findings reveal that the method improves students’ mastery of makhraj, tajwid, and fluency through systematic and structured stages supported by teacher guidance. Novelty: The study provides empirical evidence of how the Ar-Rahman method bridges traditional Quranic pedagogy and modern educational settings. Implications: The results highlight the importance of adopting structured methods like Ar-Rahman to enhance Quranic literacy and contribute to the development of integrated Islamic education systems.

Managerial Role of Principals in Islamic Boarding School Quality: Peran Manajerial Kepala Sekolah dalam Kualitas Sekolah Asrama Islam

Knowledge gap: Previous studies have often emphasized instructional leadership, yet limited research explores the comprehensive managerial functions of principals in Islamic boarding schools. Aim: This study aims to describe and analyze the managerial role of the principal in improving the quality of Islamic education institutions. Results: Using a qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation at SMP Boarding School 09 Tanggulangin Sidoarjo, the findings reveal six core areas of principal’s managerial efforts: curriculum and learning management, human resource management, student management, facilities and infrastructure, financial management, and public relations. Novelty: This research highlights an integrated managerial framework that systematically strengthens institutional performance across multiple domains. Implications: The study underscores the strategic role of principals in sustaining quality improvement, offering insights for policymakers, school leaders, and stakeholders in Islamic education.

Discovery Learning in Islamic Education for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Students: Pembelajaran Berbasis Penemuan dalam Pendidikan Islam untuk Siswa Madrasah Ibtidaiyah

Specific background: Such approaches tend to cause boredom, passivity, and limited learning outcomes among Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. Knowledge gap: Few systematic studies have comprehensively reviewed the implementation of innovative strategies, particularly Discovery Learning, within Islamic elementary education. Aims: This article systematically reviews recent studies (2021–2023) to examine how Discovery Learning enhances the effectiveness of Islamic education. Results: The findings reveal that Discovery Learning shifts learning from passive to active, fosters critical thinking, increases motivation, and improves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor outcomes. Novelty: Unlike prior works focusing only on teacher performance, this study highlights the dual role of teachers as facilitators and students as active knowledge seekers within Islamic education. Implications: The study underscores the necessity for educators to adopt Discovery Learning as a transformative pedagogical method, ensuring Islamic education is more participatory, meaningful, and aligned with contemporary learning needs.

Spirituality and Work Culture in Supporting Teacher Productivity: Spiritualitas dan Budaya Kerja dalam Mendukung Produktivitas Guru

Specific Background: Spiritual values and organizational work culture are frequently highlighted as contributing elements to improve teacher motivation and performance, yet studies examining both aspects simultaneously remain limited. Knowledge Gap: Previous research has focused more on technical competencies and management systems, while the integration of spirituality and work culture into teacher productivity has not been fully explored. Aim: This study aims to analyze the role of spirituality and work culture in supporting teacher productivity in Islamic-based schools. Results: The findings show that spirituality fosters commitment, responsibility, and sincerity, while a strong work culture creates discipline, collaboration, and consistency, both of which significantly reinforce teacher productivity. Novelty: The research highlights the simultaneous contribution of spiritual values and work culture, providing a more holistic perspective on teacher performance in Islamic-based schools. Implications: The results suggest that Islamic schools should prioritize both spiritual development and a supportive work culture to sustainably increase teacher productivity and institutional quality.

Learning Account Upgrading for Digital Management in Islamic Education 5.0: Peningkatan Akun Pembelajaran untuk Manajemen Digital dalam Pendidikan Islam 5.0
General background: The digital transformation in the 5.0 era requires Islamic educational institutions to adopt adaptive management systems. Specific background: The Indonesian government provides free learning accounts for students and teachers as part of this effort. Knowledge gap: While previous studies emphasize learning accounts in teaching and assessment, limited attention is given to their role in institutional management. Aims: This study investigates the implementation of learning account upgrading, its use in management, and the challenges faced by Islamic educational institutions. Results: Conducted at Al Fattah Islamic Boarding School, Sidoarjo, from December 18–31, 2023, using quantitative methods through observation, documentation, and interviews, findings show that 56.25% of users had activated their accounts. However, 71.3% of junior high students had not activated due to limited access to laptops and Chromebooks (2–5 users per device). Novelty: This research highlights how learning accounts are upgraded to support digitalized management beyond classroom use. Implications: Institutions are encouraged to strengthen digital infrastructure and provide socialization to maximize account utilization for sustainable management in the digital era.

Science-Based Inquiry Learning with Islamic Values to Improve Critical Thinking: Pembelajaran Berbasis Penyelidikan Ilmiah dengan Nilai-Nilai Islam untuk Meningkatkan Pemikiran Kritis
General background: Critical thinking is an essential competency in 21st-century education, requiring learning models that actively involve students. Specific background: Elementary science education often remains teacher-centered, limiting opportunities for students to develop reasoning skills. Knowledge gap: Few studies in Indonesia have investigated the integration of Islamic values within inquiry-based science learning, particularly in fostering students’ critical thinking. Aims: This study aims to examine the role of science-based inquiry learning integrated with Islamic values in improving critical thinking among fourth-grade students. Results: Using a mixed-method design, findings indicate that the experimental class applying inquiry learning showed higher post-test scores and N-gain compared to the control class with conventional learning. Students actively engaged in investigations, discussions, and reflections while relating their learning to Qur’anic values. Novelty: The study uniquely integrates Islamic teachings with scientific inquiry to cultivate both cognitive and spiritual development. Implications: The findings suggest that inquiry-based learning contextualized with Islamic values can foster meaningful science learning while shaping students’ character and critical thinking abilities.

The 30 Juz Al-Qur'an Memorization Program as a Competitive Advantage for Madrasahs : Program Hafalan Al-Qur'an 30 Juz sebagai Keunggulan Kompetitif Madrasah
General background: The rapid growth of educational institutions has led to increasing competition, pushing schools to develop unique competitive strategies to attract students. Specific background: MA Islam Terpadu Darul Fikri (DAFI) in Sidoarjo leverages a 30-juz Quran memorization program to gain a competitive advantage. Knowledge gap: While many institutions use competitive strategies, there is a lack of specific research detailing how a comprehensive Islamic memorization program, integrated with general education, is successfully implemented as a core institutional strategy. Aims: This study investigates how the 30-juz Quran memorization program functions as a competitive advantage for MA DAFI. Results: The findings indicate that MA DAFI effectively integrates general education, religious studies, and skills training under a "one for all" concept. The success of this program is supported by internal factors, such as professional management, and external factors, including government policies and technological changes. Novelty: This research provides a detailed case study demonstrating how an integrated Quran memorization program can be a successful and sustainable competitive strategy for an Islamic school. Implications: The findings offer a model for other Islamic educational institutions seeking to build a unique market position and meet the needs of parents who want formal education combined with religious memorization.

Quality Management in Islamic High School Education: A Case Study: Manajemen Kualitas dalam Pendidikan Sekolah Menengah Islam: Studi Kasus

Specific Background: Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah 1 Paciran, as a leading Islamic high school, applies input–process–output management but faces challenges in maintaining consistent standards. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have deeply explored how Islamic secondary schools address obstacles in quality management through practical strategies. Aims: This research aims to analyze the obstacles, solutions, and indicators of quality management at MA Muhammadiyah 1 Paciran. Results: The study, using descriptive qualitative methods through observation and interviews, reveals that input challenges include detailed planning in student admission (PPDB), process challenges involve teachers’ limited use of PAIKEM and IT skills, while output challenges are related to students’ inconsistent engagement in follow-up programs. Solutions include structured TUPOKSI in PPDB, continuous teacher training, IT-based learning media, and institutional motivation programs. Novelty: This study emphasizes integrated solutions combining administrative detail, pedagogical strategies, and technological adaptation within an Islamic education context. Implications: Findings highlight the importance of structured management and innovation in Islamic high schools to strengthen student outcomes and institutional competitiveness.
