    Maksim Kesantunan dalam Komunikasi Fatis Jawa Virtual: Sebuah Pendekatan Siberpragmatik

    Virtual communication gains popularity along with the rapid development of information technology. In a cultural context, cultural norms are employed in virtual communication. The lack of physical contact in virtual communication makes netizens utilize particular features in digital platforms to replace physical contact in performing politeness. This study explores the strategies of Javanese netizens to perform Javanese politeness maxims in virtual phatic communication. The data were taken from five WhatsApp Groups (WAG) of Javanese aged between 20s to 40s. 142 conversation texts containing phatic talks in WAG were collected by observation method. The conversational texts and virtual icons were transcribed for contextual analysis. The result shows that Javanese netizens utilized the maxims of Kurmat (Respect), Tepa Selira (Tolerance), Andhap Asor (Humility), and Empan Papan (Self-Awareness) as politeness strategies in virtual phatic communication. The tolerance maxim is the most frequently used to support each other. The maxim of humility is the least used. Javanese politeness maxims are camaraderie devices to establish social rapport in cyberpragmatics context. The employment of Javanese maxims is significant strategies to avoid conflict and the Face Threatening Act (FTA). Indeed, Javanese politeness maxims are essential in creating harmony in virtual communication

    Code-Mixing Found in Scarlett Whitening Instagram Posts

    This study focused on the code-mixing phenomenon discovered in an Instagram post by Scarlett White. The Instagram post of Scarlett Whitening was recently featured as one of the most popular beauty products in Indonesia. This research seeks to determine the various types of code-mixing in Scarlett Whitening's Instagram posts, as well as the most prevalent types and the reasons why they are used. For the purpose of data analysis, a qualitative descriptive method was employed in this study. Analysis of the data revealed three types of Code-mixing: intrasentential mixing, intra-lexical mixing, and changes in pronunciation. Moreover, code-mixing occurs for three reasons: discussion of a particular subject, interjection, and the desire to clarify the speech content for the interlocutor

    English Teachers’ Ability in Writing Journal Articles in the Indonesian Language

    This research was conducted to study the language skills of English teachers of senior high schools in Sragen Regency in composing a journal article for publication in Bahasa Indonesia. This is aimed to see the quality of Bahasa Indonesia skills of the teachers in the article even though they have an English education background and they are English teachers at present. Members of the High School English Teachers Association in the regency were involved in the research. A questionnaire consisting of 45 statements was distributed to the teachers. They were asked to give responses and then the collected responses were analysed to see their language quality related to the process of article production. Furthermore, they were also asked to write a journal article in Bahasa Indonesia, and the collected manuscripts were then analysed for their text structure and text texture. The results show that they do not have good knowledge and language skills in identifying as well as producing texts of certain types. Furthermore, they also got problems positioning what type of text to which part of a journal article. This condition indicates that the teachers still need an upgrading program for their language skills to compose a journal article, and in addition, they need others to give a hand during the process of article writin

    KEKELIRUAN-KEKELIRUAN DALAM MEMAHAMI KONSEP-KONSEP TEORETIS HALEY TENTANG METAFORA: SEBUAH KAJIAN METALINGUAL

    This paper is the result of meta-lingual research on the application of Haley's metaphor theory. The research objective is to analyze and evaluate whether Haley's metaphorical theory concept is appropriately used and applied in the research data. The research design is qualitative with analytical-descriptive, conceptual-empirical, and literature methods. The data source is in the form of six scientific articles that apply Haley's metaphorical theory and have been published in six different scientific journals in Indonesia. The research data consists of two types of data, namely (i) main data in the form of meta-lingual data and (ii) auxiliary data in the form of object language data. The results of data analysis and discussion indicate that there are conceptual errors in the application of Haley's metaphorical theory in the six data sources. Generally, these mistakes can be grouped into three categories, namely errors in understanding (i) Haley's definition of metaphor, (ii) hierarchical terms of perceptual space, and (iii) application of the hierarchical concept of Haley's perceptual space in the analysis of metaphorical expressions. The main cause of these errors is that (i) Haley's theory is not referenced directly from Haley and (ii) only one of Haley's writings is referred to. Thus, the research results in that data source eventually become questions

    POTRET BAHASA JAWA RAGAM KRAMA MASYARAKAT PESISIRAN KOTA SEMARANG

    The research described the proficiency degree, selection of krama lexicon, and deviation of Javanese speech levels usage. The data is taken from krama lugu dan krama inggil that is gathered through structured and in-depth interviews. Sociolinguistics approach with the the utilization of both quantitative and qualitative method is used in analysis data. Quantitative analysis is used to measure krama lexicon’s proficiency degree. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis is utilized to reveal some factors that become the background of krama lexicon selection and deviation of speech levels usage in a polite utterance. The qualitative analyze employs method: bagi unsur langsung (BUL), permutation, and substitution. The result shows that the proficiency degree of krama lexicon of Semarang coastal society Javanese speaker’s is 38,1% (qualified as: less good). Another findings of the research is the lexicon krama’s deviation in Semarang coastal’s Javanese language utterance. The deviation is measured with the standard parameter of Javanese Language (prescriptive), such as: (1) the overlaps of Javanese language utterance, (2) self-kramanisasi, and (3) interference of Javanese language and Indonesian language. That deviations caused of an error in language inheritance, a low proficiency in lexicon krama, and the lack of comprehension of understanding Javanese speech levels usage

    RUANG MENTAL DAN MODEL KOGNITIF IDEAL PEJABAT PEMERINTAH PADA HUMOR SATIRE #LORDLUHUT

    This research aims to (1) explain the relationship between the mental space of humor and #LordLuhut's satire; (2) describes the ideal concept of the idealized duties and authorities of government officials through the satire humor of #Lord Luhut. Citizen have the right to express their opinions and aspirations. There are many ways that can be done to convey the aspirations of a community to the government. One of them is by using social media to aspire their voice as a citizen. Criticism is conveyed through linguistic expressions on social media, one of which is manifested in satire humor. The data of this research is a form of humorous satire #LordLuhut which comes from various Twitter uploads. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively by using cognitive linguistic theories, such as mental space, profiling, prototypes and ideal cognitive models. The research results are presented with formal and informal methods. Several conclusions were obtained: (1) the existence of mental space in the expression of satire humor indicates that the expression is only imagination, not reality; (2) there is an ideal concept of a government official written by the author in the humorous satire #LordLuhut.

    VARIASI LEKSIKAL DAN INOVASI FONOLOGIS DIASPORA INDIA

    The combination of native speakers and non-native speakers can make a distinctive language variety. The use of this variety is also found in Indian Diaspora in Medan. From this phenomenon, this study aims to investigate the language variations from a social point of view, in the form of age in Punjabi and Tamil ethnic in Medan. The data analysis used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of data analysis in this study are presented using lexical examples and how to pronounce them. The results show that there are distinctive variation of phonology and lexical at Punjabi and Tamil ethnic in Medan. In addition, the spoken variety of Medan city is more often used by the Indian diaspora aged 14-35 years and the use of standard Indonesian is more often used by aged less than14 years

    The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of translation procedures and types of sentences from Indonesian (BSU) into English (BSA) in Indonesian literary novels by Pramoedya Ananta Toer "Candidate Charcoal" and the novel of the translation "The King, The Witch, and the Priest "The translated by Willem Samuels. The object of this research is Indonesian sentence in novels with the type of sentence and sentence patterns that are not common among literals. The contrastive analysis approach is used in this study, and is presented using qualitative descriptive research method. The results showed that the results showed that the results Sentences in BSU and BSA can have different patterns and types of sentences but have the same meaning. Sentences in BSU contain different patterns and types of sentences or can be classified as sentences with typical writing, but when translated into BSA, patterns and the type of BSU sentence is unique into a general pattern and sentence his. Therefore, the influence of transposition translation procedures on the pattern and type of BSU sentence is a decrease in the originality of writing literary literary works in translation literary works

    NADIEM MAKARIM’S FIRST SPEECH AS THE MINISTER OF INDONESIA EDUCATION AND CULTURE: SPEECH ACT ANALYSIS

    The appointment of Nadiem Makarim as the new Minister of Education and Culture for Jokowi’s cabinet 2019-2024 term has been surprising. Although the background of the chosen Minister is not from educational sector as his predecessors, this digital venture entrepreneur’s presence in ministerial position brings hope on innovation and solutions that have never been explored before in Indonesia’s Educational system. Nadiem’s first speech in his inauguration as Minister of Education and Culture about his 100-day’s plans in attempts to improve Indonesia’s Education has drawn public attention. Hence, this study is aimed to investigate speech acts produced in Nadiem Makarim’s first speech as minister, especially their types and the implied meaning. Descriptive qualitative research design was employed in this study to get description of linguistics phenomenon. The data was the transcript of Nadiem Makarim’s speech. The data were analyzed based on theory of speech acts proposed by Searle (1976). The result shows to some extends which firstly commissive speech acts are dominantly occupied in the speech. Secondly, commissive speech acts are mostly realized as promise on his plan as the new Minister  and assurance about his capability of being Minister with the promises he made even he does not come from Education field
