In the meanwhile, 58.30% of subjects in rural and 64.4% of subjects in urban areas had normal nutritional status. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) between trans fatty acid intake, adequacy level intakes of energy, total fat, trans fatty acid, and body fat percentage. However there was a significant difference between nutritional status of subjects in rural and urban areas (p<0.05). There was no relationship between adequacy level intakes of energy, total fat, and trans fatty acid, with body fat percentage and nutritional status (p>0.05), but there was significant correlation between body fat percentages and nutritional status of subjects (p<0.05).

This study aimed to assess the antioxidant potential of chocholate-rice bran oil-emulsion beverage and meniran extract beverage. RBO beverage was made using oil in water emulsion with sugar ester as the emulsifier.Four formulas was created with the RBO-chocolate concentrate : water ratio of 1:1, 1:3, 1:5, and 1:7. Meanwhile the meniran beverage was made by adding extract meniran in five different concentrations (30, 40, 50, 60, 70 ppm) along with flavor and sucralose. The selected emulsion beverage had the AEAC value of 30.75 mg Vit C/100 g, while the meniran extract beverage had the AEAC value of 9.12 mg Vit C/100 g with the total fenol of 92.75 mg/100 g. The results of TBA value, content of protein, fat, carbohydrate, ash, and water of the emulsion beverage were 0.12 mg malondialdehyde eq/kg, 0.24%, 0.52%,6.74%, 0.15% and 92.32%, respectively. Increasing concentrations of chocolate and RBO significantly affected the results of the chemical parameters (p<0.05). Overall, the chocolate emulsion beverage based on RBO and meniran extract beverage had high antioxidant activity that are potential to prevent non-communicable diseases

This survey was conducted to estimate levels of health and nutrition problems as well as the associated factorsamong under-five children in the Area Development Program of World Vision Indonesia and Wahana Visi Indonesia in Merauke district. As many as 30 Posyandus were randomly selected as the cluster units where the information was collected among children U-5 and their mothers (n=542). From this survey we estimated the prevalence of underweight, stunted, wasted, and anemic children were 11.7%, 21.0%, 7.5%, and 73.7% respectively. It was assumed that these nutritional problems were associated with several factors such as: family income, mother’s literacy, knowledge and practices of mothers on health and nutrition, as well as the existing nutrition and health program implementation. This survey concluded that the nutrition problems in the study site were categorized as a public health concern. Thus, as the recommendations, two strategies to alleviate the local nutrition and health problems were proposed: direct and indirect. The direct approach is mainly focus on the improvement of existing nutrition and health programs (i.e. GMP, high dose vitamin A program, promotion of proper child feeding, etc.) implementation. Prior to that, a health system review must be carried out to identify the presence and functioning of the essential system components. Indirectly, a program need also to be carried out through multisectoral and community participation based on the government’s leadership for the sake of alleviating poverty and illiteracy as the major underlying factors of malnutrition.Key words: malnutrition, children underfive years, anemia, quality of heath service, MeraukeABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai besaran masalah gizi dan kesehatan serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhinyadi wilayah kerja World Vision Indonesia dan Wahana Visi Indonesia di Merauke.

The objective of this research was to analyze energy intake from calorie beverages (EICB) and it’s contribution to the total energy intake of adolescents and adults. The research was carried out through analyzing a data set of THIRST (The Indonesian Regional Hydration Study) collected in 2008 and 2009 by applying a crossectional study design among 606 adolescents (male and female aged 15-18 yrs) and 594 adults (male and female aged 25-55 yrs) in North Jakarta, West Bandung, Surabaya, Malang, Makasar and Malino. Data processing and analysis were conducted in Bogor in April-June 2011. The results showed that the mean EICB among adolescents was 420 ± 406 kcal/day and among adults was 450 ± 382 kcal/day, which is 21.2% and 23.4% of the total energy intake (TEI) of adolescents and adults respectively. EICB was moderately associated with TEI of adolescents (r= 0.58

The purpose of this research was to find out acceptance and preference of households and catering to non-branded cooking oil fortified with carotene from Red Palm Oil (RPO). The subjects in this study was 30 people respectively for each households and catering. Data was collected through interviews and discussions using questionnaires. Data of subjects acceptance and preference were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Friedman test. Average cooking oil used by household subjects was 0.185+0.070 kg/day and catering was 3.87+2.46 kg/day. Most households (73.3%) and catering (66.7%) could not accept cooking oil fortified with carotene from RPO due to its colour and aroma. Fortified cooking oil had orange colour and rotten aroma (of odor). More than half of households (66.7%) and catering (63.3%) could not accept the fried product using fortified cooking oil because of its yellow colour. Friedman test showed that there were differences in both subjects acceptance to nonfortified and fortified non-branded cooking oil (p<0.05). Both household and catering subjects preferred nonfortified cooking oil

This study was aimed to analyze the effect of multi-micronutrients (MMN) supplementation and nutrition education on nutrition knowledge, mean adequacy ratio (MAR) and iron status of young adolescent girls (YAG). The study was done in three purposively selected junior high schools (JHS) in rural Bogor by implementing a quasi experiment control trial for 112 YAG for 16 weeks: thirty five YAG in the first JHS as a MMN group (SG) were given three times of MMN tablets per week, forty two YAG in the second JHS were given MMN tablet plus nutrition education delivered by trained teacher fortnightly called SGP group and thirty five YAG in the third JHS as a control group. The result showed that the increment of nutrition knowledge score as well as MAR of SGP group were significantly higher than the other two groups. The decrement level of hemoglobin (Hb) in SG and SGP groups was significantly lower than in control group, but in the subset data of anemic group, both intervention groups had significantly increased level of Hb. This imply that nutrition education improved nutrition knowledge of YAG, but MMN tablet could not improve Hb level in general and only had effect on YAG suffering from anemia.Key words: multi-micro nutrients, nutrition education, iron status, adolescent girl
