Konsumsi minyak ikan lele (Clarias gariepinus) yang diperkaya omega 3 memperbaiki low density lipoprotein (LDL) dan kolesterol total pada lansia
The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of catfish oil supplementation on the LDL and total cholesterol levels in the elderly. Experimental design with randomized controlled trial (RCT) was used in this study. Subjects were divided into two groups, the first group (A1) was given catfish oil 1,000 mg per day, while the second group (A2) was not given the oil, it was called a control. The lipid profile measurement was performed before and after the intervention. Catfish oil consumed daily by treatment group for 60 days and then the effect on the lipid profile was evaluated. Total cholesterol and LDL in the two groups did not differ significantly. However, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol of the treatment group had lower scores than the control group. In addition, the LDL levels in the treatment group were below maximum level, or maybe normal. The LDL and total cholesterol in the control group increased significantly (p<0.05), while in the treatment group was not significant. It might be due to enhancement of the consumption of the subject for 60 days. Thus, catfish oil enriched with omega 3 could inhibit the rate of enhancement of the LDL and total cholesterol
EFEK PROPOLIS CAIR Trigona spp. TERHADAP RESPONS IMUN TIKUS Sprague Dawley YANG DIINFEKSI Sthapylococcus aureus
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of liquid propolis of Trigona spp. on the immunological parameters in mice infected with Sthapylococcus aureus. The effects of propolis were analyzed using the macrophage activity as determined by the phagocytic activity and by the production of nitric oxide (NO) in Sprague Dawley rat peritoneal macrophages and the production of antibodies. The results showed that the liquid propolis produces (a) an increase in the phagocytic index, (b) a significant increase in NO production, and (c) an increase over the production of IgG antibodies. This study indicates that the ethanolic extract of propolis of Trigona spp. is able to activate macrophages, promote the production of No and antibodies. The combination of these results suggests that this extract has an immunomodulatory effect and can boost the immune responsse
KEJADIAN BERAT BADAN LAHIR RENDAH DI DESA TINELO KABUPATEN GORONTALO DAN FAKTOR YANG MEMENGARUHINYA
The aim of this study was to assess the association of maternal age, education level and family income with low birth weight (LBW). The study was an observational study with cross sectional design. The number of subject were 60 children under five years old obtained by accidental sampling. The results showed that 18.3% of mothers gave birth at high risk age (≤19 years old and ≥35 years old), 43.3% mothers had education level of senior high school, 96.7% mothers were housewives, 54.2% father’s occupation was self-employed, 71.7% of family income per month was under minimum regional wage. 16.7% of infants with LBW. The bivariate analysis showed that the incidence of low birth weight was not associated with maternal age (p=0.371), there was no correlation between the incidence of low birth weight with family income per month (p=0.709) and there was correlation between low birth weight with mother education level (p=0.017). It can be concluded that maternal age and family income per month was not associated with LBW, while education level was associated with LBW
Minuman fungsional torbangun (Coleus amboinicus Lour) dapat menurunkan tingkat keluhan dan kadar prostaglandin pada remaja dengan sindrom pramenstruasi
This study aimed to analyze the effect of torbangun functional drink on the premenstrual syndrom (PMS) symptoms and the levels of prostaglandin in adolescents. Amount of 12 adolescents in this study were devided into two groups through the inclusion and exclusion criterias. The result of Wilcoxon test showed the mean decreasion on the level of complaints of torbangun functional drink group (p<0.05), whereas the control group did not experience significant decreasing on the level of complaints. Meanwhile, the result of paired t-test of torbangun functional drink group experienced significant decline (p=0.01) of prostaglandin level (580.6±227.9) pg/dl while compared to the control group which did not show significant decline (p<0.05) of prostaglandin level (300.3±273.9)pg/dl. The result of the independent t-test test showed that the delta value of prostaglandin level were significantly different (p=0.01) before and after intervention between two groups. All in all, torbangun functional drink could be an alternative to reduce the symptoms of PMS and prostaglandin levels
FAKTOR RISIKO ANEMIA IBU HAMIL DI INDONESIA
The objective of the study was to analyze the risk factors for anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. The study design was a cross-sectional study. All of data used in this study was from Basic Health Research 2013, Ministry of Health. The data collected include age, education, birth number, parity, pregnancy spacing, antenatal care, and nutritional status (chronic energy deficiency). The number of subjects was 452 pregnant women. The chi-square test was applied to analyze correlation on dependent and independent variable. Logistic regression was applied to analyze determinants of anemia in pregnant women. The results showed that there were 38.1% pregnant women in Indonesia who had anemia (Hb<11 g/dl). The prevalence of pregnant women with anemia in rural and urban were 37.9% and 38.2% respectively. Bivariate analysis showed that age, education, birth number, parity, pregnancy spacing, and antenatal care were not significantly associated with anemia. Main determinant of anemia in pregnant women was nutritional status (chronic energy deficiency; OR=1.975; 95%CI:1.279-3.049)
ENERGI DAN ZAT GIZI DALAM PENYELENGGARAAN MAKANAN DI TAMAN KANAK-KANAK DAN PERBANDINGANNYA TERHADAP SUBJEK TANPA PENYELENGGARAAN MAKANAN
The purpose of this study is to calculate the contribution of nutrient availability in kindergarten food service to the fulfillment of energy and nutrient requirements as well as to analyze the difference in energy and nutrient adequacy level of food consumption in a day between samples with and without food service. The study used comparative cross sectional study design with total of 80 samples that were divided into two groups by with and without food service. Consumption data of the samples were collected with a food recall method. Nutrients that meet the standards adequacy of nutrients in the menu was just calcium by 64.6% of availability. There was no difference in the level of adequacy of energy, protein, fat, carbohydrates, calcium, and vitamin C in both groups (p>0.1), but differences in the level of adequacy of iron in both groups (p<0.1) was found
Pengembangan biskuit MOCAF-Garut dengan substitusi hati sebagai alternatif biskuit tinggi zat besi untuk balita
The aim of this study was to determine the best formula and character of biscuit made by mocaf-arrowroot substituted with liver (chicken and cow), we conducted a factorial randomized design experiment. Proportion of mocaf-arrowroot-liver substitution were 75:10:15 ; 70:10:20 and 65:10:25; and type of material substitution were chicken’s liver and cow’s liver. Analyzed variables were 1) chemical properties (water content, total fat, total protein, carbohydrate by difference, ash content, iron content and energy) and 2) sensory properties. Hedonic test were conducted to determine the level of consumer acceptance of 15 semi-trained panelists. Data were analyzed by F-test and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The best treatment was from mocaf 75%: arrowroot 10% and chicken’s liver15% with water content 5.93% wet basis (bb), ash content 1.89% dry basis (bk ), protein content 5.83%bk, fat content 13.55%bk, carbohydrate by difference 78.71%bk and iron content 14.05 mg/100g. 1 serving of biscuit (22,8) can reach the intake of iron for 3.3 mg as 35.5-40% daily iron needs of children under five years
STABILITAS TOTAL FENOLIK, AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN, DAN AKTIVITAS PENGHAMBATAN α-GLUKOSIDASE PADA MINUMAN FUNGSIONAL BERBASIS SIRIH MERAH (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav.)
This study aims to determine the stability of total phenolic content, antioxidant activity, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, physical properties (total dissolved solid, pH, color), and total microorganism of antidiabetic functional beverage at certain storage period. The functional beverage made from red betel leaf, cinnamon, and red ginger by using infuse method. Parameters were analyzed for 28 days on 10°C and 30°C of storage temperature. Antioxidant activity was measured by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was determined in vitro, and total microorganism was measured by total plate count (TPC) method. The results showed that there were increasement in total dissolved solid of 1.92% (10°C) and 3.85% (30°C), and pH values of 15.30% (10°C) and 13.57% (30°C). In contrary, there were decreasement in total phenolic content of 61.63% (10°C) and 79.73% (30°C), antioxidant activity of 46.80% (10°C) and 53.19% (30°C), and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of 5.43% (10°C) and 0.39% (30°C). Total microorganism at 10oC was <1.0×100 CFU/mL until day 28, while at 30oC was 2.0×100 CFU/mL on day 28. Based on the results, the functional beverage was good in physical and microbiological quality and still have biological activity as an antidiabetic beverage during storage
POTENSI FRAKSI ETIL ASETAT DAUN TORBANGUN (Coleus amboinicus L.) DALAM MENINGKATKAN PRODUKSI SUSU, BOBOT BADAN INDUK, DAN ANAK TIKUS
The aims of the research were to investigate the potential medicine from ethyl acetate fraction of Coleus amboinicus L. for improving milk yield, body weight of rats and its effects on growth of the rat pups. Galactagogue activity was evaluated in terms of quantity of milk produced from the rats treated with ethyl acetate fraction of torbangun leaves (FEA), and commercial milk booster contained ‘katuk’ leaves extract (AF). Lactating rats (n=5) of Sprague dawley with six pups were fed with FEA and AF in the amount of 30 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg body weight, respectively. The feed were given orally every two days and starting from day 2 after giving birth until day 14. The performance of milk production was measured along the experimental period by weight-suckle-weight method. The rates of pups’ growth were measured as the weight gain along experimental period. The rats fed with ethyl acetate fraction of torbangun leaves produced higher milk than AF and the control groups, while FEA did not affected the body weight of rats in comparison to the control groups. Ethyl acetate fraction of torbangun leaves was identified to increase milk production by 17%, while AF by 22%. The mean of yields produced by the rats during lactation period for FEA, AF and control were 7.12±1.16, 7.43±1.04 and 6.07±0.85 g/pups/day, respectively. The FEA administration showed gradually increased of rat pups growth and body weight gain significantly in pups 2-14 days old compared to the control group. The present study reveals the ethyl acetate fraction has the potency as a remedy for improving milk yield without influencing the rats
ASUPAN ASAM FOLAT, VITAMIN B12 DAN VITAMIN C PADA IBU HAMIL DI INDONESIA BERDASARKAN STUDI DIET TOTAL
This study aimed to analyze intake of folic acid, B12 and C of pregnant women (PW) in Indonesia. This study used secondary data from a cross-sectional study, so called Total Diet Study conducted in year 2014. The food consumption data were collected using the 24-hour dietary recall method. Total subjects of this study were 606 PW aged 14-49 old. Data of dietary intake of folic acid, vitamin B12, and vitamin C were analyzed using Indonesian food composition tables (FCT), nutrisurvey software, nutrition fact and FCT from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The results showed that mean intake of folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin C were 167.2±145.5 µg/d, 3.5±5.3 µg/d, 61.3±75.8 mg/d, respectively. The prevalence of severely deficiency of folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin C were 88.3%, 34.5% and 46.9% respectively. Logistic regression analysis showed that the younger PW from middle and low economic status had higher risk for folic acid deficiency. PW with education level less than and equal to senior high school with middle and low economic status had higher risk for vitamin B12 deficiency. PW with education level less than and equal to senior high school had higher risk for vitamin C deficiency. Consumption of folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin C of PW was low, so the consumption of vitamin sources was very important to prevent problems during pregnancy, such as anemia, premature, and also maternal and child mortality
