In particular, metacognitive strategies are found as the most frequently used strategies, followed by social, affective, compensation, cognitive, and memory strategies. There is a positive low significant correlation among metacognitive and social strategies and academic achievement. The possible reason of low correlation is caused by the context of English use since English is considered as a foreign language in Indonesia. In suggestion, it is expected that the teachers can introduce and emphasize the application of language learning strategies to the students, especially metacognitive and social strategies intended for the better academic achievement. Keywords: language learning strategies, English course students, Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) questionnair

ERROR ANALYSIS ON DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH MADE BY FIRST GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 4 MALANG
Acquiring second language is not easy for the learners because they have to learn more about the rules of sentence structure in second language. Makingerror in acquiring second language is inevitable because the learners still use therules in their first language to transfer second language. Therefore, errors wereconsidered as being the result of the persistence of existing mother tongue habitsin the new language. This study is to investigate the students’ errors in descriptiveparagraph made by the first grade students of SMA N 4 Malang. The studentsoften make errors when they write a descriptive paragraph. The problems of thisstudy are what types of error found and what sources of error found in descriptiveparagraph. Meanwhile, the objectives of this study are to identify and classify thetypes of error found and to investigate the sources of error found. The method of this study is qualitative approach. This study was carriedout at SMA N 4 Malang. The populations of this study were the first gradestudents of SMA N 4 Malang in academic year of 2012/2013. The classes thatwere used as the sample were three classes in the first grade that were taught bythe same teacher. The technique used to analyze the data of this study is using thetheory of error analysis proposed by Dulay et al (1982). The steps of analyzingdata are collecting the data, identifying the error, describing the error, explainingthe error, and drawing the conclusion. The result of the study showed that based on surface strategy taxonomy, there were (37%) omissions errors,(21%) additions, (38%) misformations, and(4%) misorderings. Misformations error is the highest error occurred. The resultfor the sources of errors were interlingual transfer (18%), intralingual transferdivided in to four parts source of error, there were (9%) for overgeneralization, 1error for ignorance of rule restrictions, (22%) for incomplete application of rules,(40%) for false concept hypothesized, and (11%) for communication strategies.  This study is useful for the students and the teacher; it helps the teacher toknow the problems of the students in their writing. MARGARET THATCHER’S STRUGGLES AGAINST WOMEN SUBORDINATION REPRESENTED IN “THE IRON LADY†MOVIE
Subordination of women always happens in a patriarchal society.Patriarchy is a system by the power of men which always regard women as beingweak. This results in unfairness to women's rights. Women often become objectsthat are humiliated and harassed, the actions they do were always limited. Theimpact of this injustice makes some women move to fight subordination of them. This phenomenon is reflected in one of the biography film "The Iron Lady" thatelevates the struggle of a woman to be a leader in a world dominated by men. The study aims at revealing the struggle of Margaret Thatcher against thesubordination of women that is reflected in the film. The writer examines Margaret Thatcher's oppression and struggle throughthe lens of feminism that focuses on women's issues, one of which is due to thepatriarchal system. The elements of mise-en-scene in the film was alsoimplemented to see other forms of oppression and the struggle associated with the arrangement of setting, costume, lighting, and other elements. From the analysis, it is known that because of the patriarchal system that isformed by society, women must experience gender discrimination. However, "TheIron Lady" indicates that there are contra actions of women to gain genderequality as shown by Margaret Thatcher, as the main character, in which she triedto fight for her rights. They are included getting higher education, making her own decision, becoming a strong leader, and also involving and politics. To achieve her dream as a career woman, she managed to break the low assumption about women that are weak, ignorant, and passive. The writer would like to give some suggestion for the next researchers.First, next researchers need to conduct further research on the analysis reveals the important things in it, because this film can still be analyzed by using the other theory of literature, such as capitalism. It would be an interesting study for the next researchers that can be observed the difference in social status between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat can affect the right to be a leader.. The second possibility is then can use the same theory that is feminism for other materials.Hopefully researchers will next get a different conclusion using the same theory. Keywords: Struggle, subordination, feminism, The Iron Lady
AUSTRALIA : A STUDY IN ABORIGINE CULTURAL PRESERVATION
Human power in dominating each other has occurred long ago as the development of the era that increasingly advances. Preservation is done to keep everything that is owned by a certain community which is a symbol of their identity. The writer conducted a study about cultural preservation by the Aborigines in 'Australia' movie which shows the cultural preservation toward White’s power occuring in Australia. There is a problem to be solved in the study, namely how the Aborigines struggle for preserving their culture. This study uses postcolonial approach because it is the most suitable with the ideology of the movie. The pressure of the Whites to the Aborigines is very interesting to be reviewed with the approach. There is interventions of the white people to regulate everything connected with the Aborigines inAustralia. In response, the Aborigines try very hard to preserve what they have in culture. The analysis reveals that all the actions taken by the Aborigines to preserve their culture are wearing traditional clothes, preserving life wisdoms and believing in superstitions. The Aborigines and the Whites do not have good relationship each other. The writer found that both of them try hard to maintain what they have. In this case the writer gives more emphasis on the Aborigines’ efforts to preserve their culture which have been passed down from their ancestors for many years. By this way, the culture is still preserved from generation to generation. King George in this movie acts as a teacher to teach all the habits of the Aborigines to his grandson, Nullah so that the opportunity for the Whites to change the culture of the Aborigines decreases. In conclusion, the Aborigines maintain their culture as their identity to be recognized in Australia because they are the indigenous inhabitants who have been living there. As Aborigines, they believe every place in the territory of Australia is a power for them because their culture is always related to the nature
