Keyword: Error, Error analysis, Consonant, English consonants. In the process of learning English as a foreign language, many learners face difficulties and produce some errors especially in pronouncing English consonants as well as English vowels. In this study, the writer was interested to analyze the phonological errors made by second semester students of Study Program of English Universitas Brawijaya regarding English consonants. Hence, the main focus of this study was the 24 English consonants. By conducting this study, the writer was able to find: first, the English consonants pronunciation error produced by the second semester students; and second, possible factors that influence their error. In answering the first research problem, the writer used Kelly’s and also Ladefoged et al.’s theories. Meanwhile, in answering the second research problem, the writer used Kenworthy and also Piske et al.’s theories. Moreover, the writer conducted her research using qualitative approach. In collecting the data, the writer firstly recorded the pronunciation of second semester students of Study Program of English Universitas Brawijaya when they read the pronunciation tasks provided. Then, she transcribed their pronunciations. The result showed that the students produced phonological errors in pronouncing thirteen consonants, those are /g/, /h/, /j/, /k/, /v/, /z/, /ʤ/, /ʧ/, /ɵ /, /ð/,/ƞ/, /ʒ/, and /ʃ/. Meanwhile, for the other consonants such as /b/, /d/, /f/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /p/, /r/, /s/, /t/, and /w/ are consonants which are error-free in pronunciation. Additionally, the most troublesome English consonant for the students is /v/. The writer also found 3 causes which give certain effect toward students’ error in pronunciation, those are the interference of L1 into L2, formal instruction, and the amount of L2 use.Based on these results, it can be concluded that the second semester students have not mastered the pronunciation of English language yet because most of them are still influenced by their first language pronunciation system. Finally, the writer suggests the future researchers conduct further research in spoken language since the number of this kind of research is limited. They could continue this study and find more information of students’ weakness in pronouncing English word

They reflects hedonistic lifestyle and it becomes a habit. They will do anything to get what they want and they do not want to feel the hurt. They think the important things in their life are pleasure and happiness. Pleasure for Anthony is when he lives freely without hard work and gets his grandfather’s money. For Gloria, pleasure is a kind of worship from her husband to her beautiful face. Pleasure makes them selfish and do not care about other people. This behavior affects themselves and people around them. Hedonist leads to the formation of two social classes, in which people are grouped based on the standards they set. In sociology, it called insiders and outsiders. The main characters in this novel are included to insider because they share the same attachment and mission. Meanwhile the outsider is the group of people who are not included in insider group because these people do not meet the requirements in the standards of insider. They are neighbors who live in poverty. The impacts of hedonistic lifestyle occurred in the insider group, come in the form of breakdown of relationships between family members, friendships, self-esteem, and psychology. The first figure analyzed is Anthony Patch. When he got bankrupt, he  decided to hide the situation and pretends everything is fine. He does that because he does not want to lose his dignity and pride. Because of this problem, he suffered from depression symptoms and his mental being unstable. The effect of hedonistic lifestyle to the outsider appears when they become the subject of ridicule and humiliation by the insider.  The conclusion is hedonism is really reflected on main characters on The Beautiful and Damned novel and it brings some effects to themselves and to people around them. The suggestion for the future research, The Beautiful and Damned also could be analyzed with different theories like psychoanalysis and Marxism. The future researchers could dig deeper to find some interesting problems in this novel

Because of this background, modern morality theories are designed to be accepted by scientific principle. One of them is called Utilitarianism. In order to put morality into society, one of the ways is by putting its values into literary works. Through the movie Unthinkable, the conflict between rationality and conscience is reflected. Based on those backgrounds, the focus of the study is formulized by the researcher in the moral dimension of literary work. The problem of the study is: How Utilitarianism is reflected on the movie entitled Unthinkable. The study is focused on the exploration of moral dimension of literary works through moral philosophical approach which place literary works as a product of society that reflects moral lesson. Mise-en-scene is also used to explore visual performance of the reflected moral theory Utilitarianism in the movie. In the end of the research, the result shows that there are several actions reflecting Utilitarianism principles. Those principles are reflected on the military activities in conducting the interrogation towards terrorist. Also on the other side, those principles appear in the terrorism activity. Those principles are depicted through two ways. From the verbal data, the debate appearing on the dialogue between characters reveals Utilitarianism principles used to justify whether an action is right or wrong. From the visual data, the Utilitarianism events are pictured dramatically as morally unaccepted actions. However, the movie also shows how important the application of Utilitarianism on that situation. The writer wants to give some suggestions for the next researcher about the different research  method that can be used. The next researcher can focus the research using dialectical method which is also applicable in analyzing literary product. Second, historical approach may develop the research to the next level by taking the second data source from US historical record about policies in war against terrorism

Keywords: Politeness, Face, Face Threatening Act (FTA), Stand-up Comedy.Face threatening act (FTA) is inseparable from verbal communication. As a result, both speaker’s and the hearer’s faces are in danger. This leads to a huge problem for stand-up comedians, who only rely on verbal jokes to make their audiences listen and pay attention. The writer then chooses Jerry Seinfeld, an American stand-up comedian whose genre is observational comedy, as the object of this study. This study aims to find out what strategies that are performed by Jerry Seinfeld in his stand-up comedy show entitled I’m Telling You for The Last Time in threatening his and the audiences’ faces.Qualitative approach is used in this study to collect and examine the data. In addition, this study applies document analysis to analyze and interpret the utterances produced by Jerry Seinfeld that contain face threatening acts and their strategies based on the face threatening act strategies theory proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987).The findings of this study reveal that all face threatening strategies are used by Jerry Seinfeld in his act, with domination in strategies with redressive actions, in particular negative politeness strategy. This strategy is more exploited as he wanted to respect his hearers’ want to stay free and be funny by stating his own insights inside his jokes at the same time. Moreover, the least used strategy is bald on record, as it is too unsafe to state opinions without softening the speaker’s intention. This indication shows that in his comedy performance, the stand-up comedian still considers respecting his own and audiences’ faces when he performs verbal communication through his jokes.Based on the results, the writer suggests that the next researchers analyze different genre, gender, or nationality of various stand-up comedians on how they perform their face threatening act strategies in their comedy performance
