REGISTER PEMANDU WISATA BERBAHASA PRANCIS DI KAWASAN WISATA KAWAH IJEN BANYUWANGI JAWA TIMUR : KAJIAN SOSIOLINGUISTIK
Get PDFKata kunci: pemandu wisata, sosiolinguistik, registerKomunikasi dapat dilakukan oleh siapapun dan dalam lingkup sosial manapun. Salah satunya antara pemandu wisata dengan wisatawannya. Setiap pemandu wisata memiliki variasi bahasa. Variasi bahasa berdasarkan pemakaiannya disebut register. Dalam kegiatan guiding, pemandu perlu untuk mengetahui register yang baik dan benar. Namun, seringkali pemandu wisata menggunakan register yang tidak standar. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk register pemandu wisata berbahasa Prancis dan faktorfaktor sosial yang melatarbelakanginya. Penelitian ini dikhususkan untuk pemandu wisata berbahasa Prancis di Kawah Ijen Banyuwangi Jawa Timur mengingat banyak sekali wisatawan yang berasal dari Prancis yang mengunjunginya.Penelitian ini menggunakan teori sosiolinguistik dan register untuk menganalisis bentuk register dan faktor-faktor sosial yang melatarbelakanginya. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan empat pemandu wisata sebagai obyek penelitiannya. Teknik pengambilan data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara observasi, wawancara kepada pemandu wisata, angket yang harus diisi pemandu, dokumentasi, dan studi pustaka. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara pengumpulan data-data dari hasil observasi, wawancara dan angket, proses pemilihan data, penyajian data secara deskriptif, penarikan kesimpulan, dan verifikasi data.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keempat pemandu wisata yang menjadi obyek penelitian mempunyai kesalahan gramatikal dalam register mereka dengan tingkat kesalahan yang berbeda. Hal tersebut dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor sosial yang melatarbelakangi pembentukan register tersebut, yaitu tingkat penguasaan bahasa Prancis, usia pertama kali belajar bahasa Prancis, cara atau tempat belajar bahasa Prancis, dan sikap terhadap bahasa Prancis. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat dijadikan masukan bagi seluruh pihak yang terkait dengan pemandu wisata untuk meningkatkan kualitas berbahasa Prancis pemandu wisata agar dapat meningkat pula kualitas pelayanannya kepada wisatawan

Get PDFKata Kunci : Jender, Maskulin, Feminin, Androgini Jender merupakan sebuah konsep psikologis yang membagi perilaku manusia ke dalam maskulin dan feminin. Setiap manusia memiliki kadar maskulinitas dan femininitas yang berbeda. Ada yang cenderung sangat maskulin atau sangat feminin, tetapi ada juga yang berada di antara maskulin dan feminin, dan kategori ini disebut dengan androgini. Androginitas bisa dikaji melalui berbagai macam media, salah satunya adalah film Prancis Tomboy yang menceritakan tentang Laure, anak perempuan yang memiliki kecenderungan androgini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjabarkan manifestasi perilaku maskulin dan feminin tokoh Laure serta mengukur kadar androginitasnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori The Measurement of Psychological Androgyny (pengukuran androgini secara psikologis) yang dikemukakan oleh Sandra L. Bem. Penelitian ini merupakan gabungan antara penelitian kualitatif dan kuantitatif karena data yang ditampilkan berupa teks deskriptif dan rumus matematika. Penulis menggunakan content analysis (analisis isi) sebagai metode pengumpulan data serta coding dan coding frames sebagai metode analisis data.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Laure lebih banyak menunjukkan manifestasi perilaku maskulin pada saat bermain bersama teman-temannya, sementara itu manifestasi perilaku feminin ditunjukkan pada saat ia berkumpul bersama keluarganya. Di samping itu, dari hasil pengukuran androgini yang dilakukan, Laure termasuk ke dalam golongan androgynous atau androgini. Untuk penelitian selanjutnya, penulis menyarankan agar dilakukan pengkajian mengenai orientasi seksual Laure yang memiliki kecenderungan menyukai sesama jenis. Alasan mengapa Laure bisa memiliki perilaku androgini juga bisa dikaji lebih lanjut. Selain itu tampilan fisik Laure yang mencerminkan kecenderungan transjender juga bisa dijadikan bahan kajian yang menarik untuk penelitian selanjutnya

It is one of the novels that explores that issue, especially regarding dreaming in depressive condition and personality changes. These things can be identified through the character, named Charles Benetto, as the representation of human in the reality. Therefore, the objectives of this study are: (1) to explore the relation between Charles’ depression and his dream (2) to discover how Charles’ dream changes his personality.This study is carried out using qualitative approach since the psychological phenomenon of the main character is analyzed in descriptive ways. Jungian dream and personality theories are applied in analyzing the data that are found in the novel. Charles, the main character of the novel, has several symptoms as depressed person after facing several problems in his life that happen within his family. The causes and desires regarding his depression remain in his unconscious. Those affect his mind and later appear in his dream. He dreams about things that worry him and wishes that are unfulfilled. This dream gives a great influence on Charles’ personality in the future since in the dream he gets several life lessons through the conversation with his deceased mother and expectation that is finally met. In conclusion, there is a relation between Charles’ depression and his dream, and his dream affect the change of Charles’ personality in the future.Hopefully, the next researchers can analyze more about how Charles personality develops since childhood to adolescence and as a divorced child. Things about divorcement that is portrayed in the novel can also be explored more
SOCIAL INFLUENCES ON THE SECOND-GENERATION CHINESE AMERICAN’S IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT DEPICTED IN AMY TAN’S THE JOY LUCK CLUB NOVEL

Chinese immigrants bring their new hopes in getting the better lives in America. Unfortunately, not all of the Chinese immigrants can get better lives because they have to face the different culture, language, society, and lifestyle. Those differences later on cause the gap between mothers as the first generation and daughters as the second generation of Chinese immigrant. The novel entitled The Joy Luck Club points out the generational gap through the characters’ individual psychology.The research employs psychological approach in order to reveal more informations focusing on the subject being studied. This approach directs the discussion to use psychology theory to analyze and interpret the data. In this case, the psychology theories are focused on the generational gap which appears because of the different perspectives of mothers and daughters in the Chinese immigrant families.The study reveals that there are different perspectives from mothers as the first-generation Chinese immigrants who still have the Chinese thought and the daughters as the second-generation Chinese immigrants who have already been influenced by the American culture because of the society around them and from their psychological condition in shaping the identity development of the secondgeneration Chinese American. Their different psychological conditions create a gap in their relationship and bring them to the crucial situation.To some extent, it is suggested for the next researcher to conduct a study by comparing The Joy Luck Club with other novels which are also written by Amy Tan. By using the comparative study, hopefully the next researcher can find out how Amy Tan builds the conflicts based on the psychological conditions of the characters in her novels
A STUDY OF THE USE OF DIGLOSSIA IN THE MAIN CHARACTER DIALOGUE OF THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS MOVIE

In delivering ideas of conversation, language is the most important part to make it success. Language varies according to the social structure of a speech community. This phenomena creates the different use of language for different purpose called Diglossia. There are two varieties in Diglossia, High variety language and low variety language. Standard English language is the example of high variety and non standard English language is the example of low variety language. The researcher conducts a study about diglossia in main character dialogue in “Pursuit of Happiness†movie. There are two problems in this research, namely: (1) What are the English language characteristics of standard language and non-standard language used by main character of “Pursuit of Happiness†movie, and (2) What are the factors infuencing the main character for using language variety in the “Pursuit of Happiness†movie.This study uses qualitative approach in relation to the use of clear and systematic description about the utterances being studied. Descriptive study in textual analysis is applied in this study to analyze conversation of the main characters through the script and the movie of “Pursuit of Happinessâ€.This study reveals that the main character use standard English language by using modal auxiliary, irregular form of the verb to be in the past form and the use ofirregular form of the verb to be in the present form. The main character use Non-standard English language by using Slang words, harsh swearing word, the use of verb ain’t, and combined word that less meaning, The researcher found 5 factors ofmain character to using language variation, those are Gender, Age, Social classes,Ethnic background, and Speech community.The researcher suggests that for the researchers who are interested in doing research on Diglossia can explore and investigate more about the use of Standard English language and Non-standard English language in real life

In this study, these are the main issues which are supported by other theories as following, patriarchy, and gender.The Otherside of Silence novel tells about a woman who struggles to findfreedom and acknowledgement from sexual coercion actions conducted by theirmaster and German military men in colonial life in the early 20 century. The sexual coercion can subordinate women to serve the men’s desire. Furthermore,the patriarchal values are addressed to women in workplace and sexuality. Thewomen resistance emerges to struggle their rights as citizens toward mendominance in patriarchal society. Sexual coercion undergone by Hanna X as themain character portrays woman subordination in this novel.In this study, rebellious women will be punished and killed by men if theyare not obedient to men’s order. So, women are judged for always obedient to all of men desires. It is suggested for future researcher who wants to take the same material object to employ sociological approach in analyzing The Otherside of Silence novel by Andre Brink
DAUGHTER ABUSE IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN FAMILY AS REFLECTED IN SAPPHIRE’S PUSH

Father has to fulfill the duty because he is the family leader. However, in Push, the disorganization happens among Black people and it comes from a little scope, family. It is because the roles of family members are different. Superiority represented by father and mother, and inferiority represented by daughter. Their position makes them push the inferior by abusing their daughter.This study uses feminism approach to analyze African-American womenwho face the problem of domestic abuse in Push Novel. Patriarchal system andwoman subordination are used to analyze the data about domination by parentstoward daughter. While theory of abuse is used to analyze the kinds of abuse that happen to the main character as inferior.The result of this research reveals that there are four abuses that happen tothe main character, Claireece, i.e., as neglect, emotional abuse, physical abuse,and sexual abuse. The impact makes Claireece has problem in her life like being illiterate and pregnant. The next researcher can use psychological aspect to find the causes and impacts of Black parents who abuse their daughter therefore deeper comprehension toward African-American family can be obtained. There are three objectives in to achieve this research, first is to find out thelexical and structural meanings of Tri provider slogan of “Bebas itu nyata alwaysonâ€, the second one is to identify the users’ interpretation of Tri provider inEnglish Department at Universitas Brawijaya toward the slogan of “Bebas itunyata always onâ€, and the last one is identify the impact of Tri slogan “Bebas itunyata always on†toward the users in English Department at UniversitasBrawijaya.This study used a qualitative approach to analyze two data. The first datumis the slogan text “Bebas Itu Nyata Always On†used in Tri (3) provider. Thesecond one is the opinion about the product produced by the students of Englishdepartment at Universitas Brawijaya. There are two data collections, namely preresearch and whilst research. In addition the researcher also needs othersinstruments such as questionnaire and interview guide to conduct the research. In data analysis, the researcher uses two processes such as analyzing the sentence of the slogan text and analyzing the result of interviewed.The result of this research revealed that semantically the slogan has good lexical choice since it emphasizes the words Bebas, Nyata, and always on to persuade the audiences.Furthermore, sintagmaticlly the slogan consists of twosentences, the first sentence is Bebas yang diberikan Tri itu nyata and the second one is we are always on. At the level of interpretation, there are similarities between the research participants and the researcher in interpreting the slogan. Besides, slogan has less power to influence the users or researcher participants in buying a certain product.In conclusion, the power of language in advertisement is very importantsince it has the function to persuade people in buying a certain product, in fact in this research the researcher found that language has less power in influencingpeople to choose a certain product, people choose a certain product since theproduct has good quality of services. For further research, the researchersuggested for the next researcher to apply more theories in CDA such as analyzing the coherence or cohesive in the text analysis so that it will be helpful for the readers to understand more about the theory of CDA
SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS ON WAHYU KOKKANG’S CARTOONS IN CLEKIT JAWA POS

The study of sign can be defined as Semiotics in linguistics. Semiotics is used to understand and interpreting every sign. The researcher conducted a study about semiotics in Wahyu Kokkang’s cartoon in Clekit Jawa Post which shows the interpretations of the cartoons that are published in one of the mostfamous newspapers in Indonesia. There are two problems to be solved in the study, namely (1) what are the Semiotics signs that can be found in Wahyu Kokkang’s cartoon in Clekit Jawa Post and (2) what are the interpretations of Semiotic signs that can be made in Wahyu Kokkang’s cartoon in Clekit Jawa Post.As the data of the study, the researcher took the signs from 7 cartoons that were published on Clekit Jawa Post. The researcher selected the political cartoons on March and April 2009 with the upcoming national election on April 2009 as the consideration of collecting the data. This study used qualitative approach in relation to the use of clear and systematic description about the phenomena being studied. The researcher had 3 steps in analyzing the data:(1) identifying the types of signs found in Clekit Jawa Post by using Pierce’s theory of sign,(2) interpreting the cartoons by combining all the signs employed, and (3) drawing conclusion of all findings that have been analyzed.This study reveals that all elements of sign which are icon, index, and symbol are applied in those seven cartoons. Overall, there are 22 icons, 9 indexes, and 14 symbols that are applied in the cartoons. This study also reveals that the cartoons are related to the reality that happened in the society, especially is related to politics.Furthermore, five out of seven cartoons are used to satirizea group of person or institution. On the other hand, two out of seven cartoons are used to remind some persons andan institution.The researcher suggests English Study Program students conduct a study about the signs and interpretations from other themes of cartoons such as cartoons related to education in order to enrich the interpretations of Clekit cartoons
A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF THREE (3) ADVERTISEMENT ENTITLED “ALWAYS ON, BEBAS ITU NYATA†GIRL’S VERSION

This study is conducted to know the power of Three (3) advertisement’s narration entitled “Always On, Bebas itu nyata†towards the society. Since, this advertisement touches the Indonesian culture which gives the impact towards the society. There are two problems to be solved, namely: (1)What is the meaning of each utterances in the Three (3) advertisement “Always On, Bebas itu nyata†girl version based on Fairclough’s three dimension model of CDA?; (2) What are society interpretations on the depiction of freedom on Three (3) advertisement “Always On, Bebas itu nyata�.This study employs qualitative approach by using content or document analysis. Document analysis is applied because the aim of this study is to describe the meaning on Three (3) advertisement’s utterances narration and the society’s interpretation. The data of this research were all utterances found in Three (3) entitled “Always On, Bebas itu nyata†(girl’s version) and the comment from internet regarding this advertisement. The writer applied several processes in collecting the data in certain order as follow: (1) downloading the complete video entitled “Always On, Bebas itu nyata†girl’s version from Youtube, (2) transcribing the utterances by playing and pausing the video, (3) reading the whole transription of the utterances in order to check the utterances for understanding the message of advertisement, and (4) finding the society’s comments in the Youtube’s comment box and from the personal blogs.This present study reveals that based on society interpretation on the Three (3) advertisement narration, the society tends to see and directly related this advertisement’s narration with the norm and culture in Indonesia without thinking about the main purpose of the advertisement maker.Finally, the writer suggests that the next researcher enrich the field of this study and possibly explore other numerous object with different theory of CDA. It will be very useful for the knowledge development especially in critical discourse analysis
