Keywords: Traditional Women, Modern Women, Feminism, Images of Women. This study talks about women and their image that has changed in society. The changes include the traditional image of women into their image in modern society. Images and roles of women often appear in literary works, including films. One of the films about women is Taxi. Taxi is an action movie which puts women as the most dominant characters. They are Belle Williams, Vanessa, and Lieutenant Marta. The problem of this study is how the images of modern women are portrayed in the movie Taxi. Meanwhile the purpose of this study is to disclose the images of modern women portrayed in Taxi movie. This study is carried out using qualitative approach since the images of modern women of the three female characters in Taxi movie is analyzed in descriptive ways.  Traditionally it is clear enough that women’s place is in the home. However, along with the evolution women’s place is no longer always in home and doing all the housework things. Women in this era also become autonomous decision makers. They now can decide the good or bad for themselves even for the other. Through the female characters in Taxi movie too, women are also represented as independent and do not need men’s protection. Men’s view of women primarily as sexual objects does not change, but now they are also interested in women as people. Women also can use men’s interest to get what they want. Through Belle, Liuetenant Robbins and Vanessa, the new images of women are clearly represented. The main female characters in Taxi movie, the characteristics of Belle, Lieutenant Robbins, and Vanessa have the similarity, they are beautiful, smart, optimistic, profesional, considerable, good taste, and talented. Modern women show different images from the traditional expectation on women. The writer suggests for the readers who want to analyze the characters in Taxi movie, the reader may analyze another characters. The next researcher can use a theory of gender reversal which puts Washburn and Jesse as the main figures to be analyzed

In this study, the writer intends to analyze apologizing strategies used in Barack Obama’s speech at Strasbourg Town Hall. This study is conducted to find out (1) the types of apologizing strategies (direct and indirect) performed in Barack Obama’s speech, and (2) the apologizing strategies performed in Barack Obama’s speech. This study is qualitative approach with document analysis since the data consists largely of words. The data are the utterances which contain apology in Barack Obama’s speech at Strasbourg Town Hall. From the data, the writer tried to identify the apologizing strategies by using Olshtain and Cohen’s apologizing strategy (1983).In this study the writer found 8 strategies of apology in the 12 excerpts. The strategies are (a) IFID with exclamations, (b) IFID followed by humor downgrading, (c) IFID for politeness, (d) taking on responsibility followed bysharing guilt, (e) admission followed by blaming, (f) implicit apology followed by regret, (g) explanation or account, and (h) offer of repair. According to theanalysis, the writer finds IFID with exclamations by 1 datum, IFID followed by humor downgrading by 1 datum, IFID for politeness by 1 datum, taking on responsibility followed by sharing guilt by 4 data, admission followed by blaming by 1 datum, implicit apology followed by regret by 1 datum, explanation or account by 1 datum, and offer of repair by 2 data. The mostly used strategy is taking on responsibility followed by sharing guilt that occurred 4 times. This happens because the speech indicated that every nation bears responsibility for problems in the world such as climate change, terrorism, drug trafficking, poverty, and the proliferation of nuclear weapons. This strategy was used to minimize the degree of offense that United States is partly responsible. This study hopefully can provide appropriate reference for further researcher to conduct the research in apologizing act. It is recommended that the next researchers examine apology strategy used in diplomatic context. Hopefully, the results of this study can be used as the starting point to analyze apology strategies more deeply. Finally, the future researcher may conduct a research on languages other than English

In connecting with literary works, they are on which values as intrinsic aspects rely on. That is because literary works are seen as the mirror of the social condit ion, including values. Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie is one of the literary works which contains American values, especially from Morrie’s point of view as the main character. Those values that appear in the novel are used as the object of the study. In other words, this study disscusses American values from Morrie Schwartz’s perspectives. Through Morrie Schwartz’s idea about American values, this study is wished to give the new yet useful point of view related to the values of life.Sociological approach to literature is used in this study because Tuesdays with Morrie is based on true story which contains real descriptions of American culture and social condition, especially the values. The result of the study reveals that Morrie Schwartz had his own perspectives toward American values. Most of his concern was about the importance of human relation above all values. Those perspectives were delivered through Morrie Schwartz’s opinions, crit icisms, and suggest ions. From this study, it is revealed that Morrie Schwartz had the idea of intimate indivualism, a state of being free to express oneself yet fully consider about relating to others. He also had a thought that material possessions was not the key to happiness, but love within human relationship was. Family and marriage were believed to be the spheres to decreace individualism and materialism. To Morrie Schwartz, growing old was not the limitation for people to be actively productive. Finally, it is suggested to the next researcher to cunduct a study about Morrie Schwartz’s effort in gaining life sat isfact ion by using socio-psycological approach because his efforts (thoughts, feelings, and actions) to reach the goal were so much related to the society. Â

The result shows that metacognitive strategies are the most frequently used by the students whereas affective strategies are the lowest frequently used. Although there are differences in the mean score for the overall language learning strategies used by science and social students, the T- test result shows that there is no significant difference in language learning strategies applied by science and social students. In addition, Chi-square result shows that there is no significant correlation between different academic major and the choice of language learning strategies. In conclusion, science students apply language learning strategies more than social student and the strategies mostly applied from overall language learning strategies is metacognitive strategies.
