POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY MEGAWATI SOEKARNO PUTRI IN HER SPEECH ENTITLED MERINDUKAN NEGARAWAN

Ada dua permasalahan dalam penelitian ini, antara lain: (1) Apa saja tindakan yang menyinggung muka yang digunakan oleh Megawati Soekarno Putri dalam pidatonya yang berjudul Merindukan Negarawan, dan (2) Apa jenis strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh Megawati Soekarno Putri dalam pidatonya yang berjudul Merindukan Negarawan.Penulis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif karena penelitian ini bertujuanuntuk menganalisis dan mendiskusikan mengenai tindakan yang menyinggungmuka dan jenis strategi kesantunan yang terdapat dalam kalimat-kalimat padapidato Merindukan Negarawan.Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa Megawati Soekarno Putri lebih banyak menyinggung muka positif daripada muka negatif. Selain itu, analisis menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga strategi utama digunakan oleh Megawati Soekarno Putri dalam pidatonya, meliputi: kesantunan positif, kesantunan negatif, dan tidak langsung. Strategi kesantunan positif digunakan lebih sering daripada strategi lainnya. Yang paling sering digunakan pada strategi kesantunan positif adalah strategi ke 12 (memasukkan baik pembicara maupun pendengar dalam aktivitas). Megawati paling sering menggunakan strategi kesantunan positif karena dia ingin membuat hubungan yang baik dengan semua penonton dalam rangka memperkecil jarak sosial diantara mereka.Penulis merekomendasikan kepada penulis selanjutnya untuk menggunakan penelitian ini sebagai referensi tambahan dan menyarankan untuk menambah analisis dan diskusi yang terdapat dalam situasi yang resmi, khususnya pidato. Penulis juga menyarankan kepada masyarakat untuk menerapkan strategi kesantunan ketika mereka berbicara kepada orang yang lebih tua atau orang yang mempunyai status lebih tinggi. Dengan menerapkan strategi kesantunan,komunikasi mereka dapat berjalan dengan baik dan lancar. Â
IDENTIFYING JAVANESE SOCIAL LEVEL THROUGH THE FORMS OF ADDRESS IN UMAR KAYAM’S MANGAN ORA MANGAN KUMPUL

By understandingthe forms of address, people can understand about a culture of the society who use it. The society that is designated by this research is Javanese. Furthermore,Mangan Ora Mangan Kumpul is chosen as the data source because of somereasons, for example this book contains a lot of Javanese values. There are twoproblems proposed in this research, those are: (1) what are the forms of address used in Mangan Ora Mangan Kumpul? (2) how do the forms of address in Mangan Ora Mangan Kumpul reflect social level among Javanese people?This research applies qualitative research approach, explanative as theresearch purpose, primary data source, social interaction as the unit analysis,document as the technique of collecting data, content analysis as the data analysis, and the last is triangulation as the research validation.The result of this research found that forms of addess are divided into three functions; to designate people who are from a higher, a same or a lower social level than the addresser. Forms of address to designate people from highersocial level are anda, panjenengan, sampeyan, Pakde, Engkoh, Bapak, Bune, Mas, and mBakyu. Forms of address to designate people from same social level are kamu, kau, kalian, (characters’ name), (characters’ nickname), Profesor andDokter. The last, forms of address to designate people from lower social level are kamu, kau, kalian, Tole, Adik, (characters’ name), and (characters’ nickname).The social level of Javanese people in this novel mostly identified by socio-economic capability and age of persons. There are some incorrect uses ofthe address forms applied by the characters in the novel. It happened because of some reasons, such as social distance and joke. Those incorrect uses are: (a) Anda is used to designate a person who is from the same social level (socio-economic aspect), (b) Sampeyan is not used to only designate people from higher social level, but also people from lower social level (socio economic aspect). This form actually also can be used to decrease a respect feeling to the addressee, (c) Bune is not used to only designate people from higher social level, but also people from same social level (age gap and socio-economic aspects), (d) Mas is not used to only designate people from higher social level, but also people from lower social level (socio-economic aspect)
IDEOLOGICAL CONSTRUCTION BEHIND GERINDRA’S BROADCASTED CAMPAIGNS AS INTERPRETED BY VIEWERS
Get PDFKeywords: ideology, critical discourse analysis, speech actsThis research is aimed to identify the ideological construction behind Gerindra’s broadcasted campaign videos as interpreted by the viewers in the framework of Indonesian general election 2014. There were three problems to be solved in this study, namely: (1) what are the speech acts identified in Gerindra’s broadcasted campaigns; (2) what are the viewers’ interpretations towards Gerindra’s broadcasted campaigns and (3) what is the ideological constructionbehind Gerindra’s broadcasted campaigns as interpreted by viewers.This CDA research uses Fairclough’s model of CDA which comprises text analysis; discursive practice; and social pratice. On the level of text analysis, it is aimed to analyze the speech acts used in the campaign videos. Discursivepractice is aimed to find out the viewers’ interpretation after they watch thecampaign videos; and social practice is aimed to find out the impact toward theviewers and also identify the ideology to be constructed. This study useddescriptive qualitative method and document analysis as the research design. The data were collected from transcription of campaign videos and the result ofquestionnaire.This study reveals that commissive, representative and directive were types of speech acts used in the campaign videos. Based on the viewers’ interpretation Gerindra tried to convey that it is a party which could bring changes in Indonesia, and it tried to construct an ideology that Gerindra, a party which could bring changes for Indonesia especially in food security and the interests of the minority.Further researchers are suggested to choose more interesting objects that are related with real life such as talk show, newspaper, and so on. Besides, it isalso suggested for next researchers to choose other appropriate theories that will be used in the research in order to make it easy in analyzing the data. Moreover, further researchers are suggested to be updated about the recent research about critical discourse analysis. By doing so, further researcher can be triggered or inspired in conducting a research in fields of critical discourse analysis
UNGKAPAN PENOLAKAN DALAM SERIAL DRAMA “ITAZURA NA KISS LOVE IN TOKYO†KARYA TADA KAORU

Penggunaan bahasa yang baik dapat memudahkan seseorang untuk menyampaikan maksud yang dapat dimengerti oleh lawan bicara. Contohnya ketika berinteraksi dengan orang lain, pasti sering mengekspresikannya dengan terkejut, marah, gembira ataupun menolak tawaran dari lawan bicara. Terdapat dua macam ungkapan penolakan dalam bahasa Jepang yaitu ungkapan langsung dan tidak langsung. Salah satu contoh bentuk ungkapan penolakan bahasa Jepang dapat dilihat dalam serial drama “Itazura Na Kiss Love in Tokyoâ€.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui level ungkapan penolakan menurut Akiko dan apa makna yang ditimbulkan ungkapan penolakan dilihat dari maksim kearifan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif.Hasil penelitian ditemukan 36 data yaitu ungkapan penolakan dalam bentuk penolakan langsung 20 data dan bentuk penolakan tidak langsung 16 data dalam bentuk kalimat yang berbeda-beda seperti kalimat berita, kalimat negatif, kalimat perintah, ungkapan penyesalan, ungkapan keinginan, ungkapan terima kasih, dan dalam bentuk alasan dan pujian. Juga terdapat penolakan sopan berjumlah 18 data dan makna penolakan tidak sopan 18 data.Peneliti selanjutnya diharapkan menggali lagi ungkapan selain ungkapan penolakan seperti ungkapan terimakasih dan ungkapan persetujuan. Objek kajian selain drama juga bisa dilakukan
WAKAMONO KOTOBA DALAM DRAMA MY BOSS MY HERO

Wakamono kotoba adalah ungkapan yang digunakan oleh pria dan wanita pada usia sekitar akhir 10 tahun sampai 30 tahun di dalam lingkup pertemanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) Wakamono Kotoba jenis apa saja yang ada dalam drama My Boss My Hero (2) Bagaimanakah proses pembentukan Wakamono Kotoba yang terdapat dalam drama My Boss My Hero. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang diteliti adalah drama My Boss My Hero. Analisis yang digunakan adalah dengan melakukan identifikasi wakamono kotoba, mendeskripsikan sesuai proses pembentukannya dan membuat kesimpulan dari hasil analisa. Dari hasil analisis pada penelitian ini telah ditemukan 26 Wakamono Kotoba 22 data termasuk proses pembentukan Ryakugo atau singkatan, 1 data termasuk dalam pross pembentukan sufiks "ru", 2 data termasuk dalam proses pembentukan Kyouchougo atau penekanan, 1 data yang termasuk dalam Tengi atau penggunaan kata kiasan. Untuk penelitian selanjutnya penulis menyarankan untuk meneliti pembentukan wakamono kotoba pemberian sufiks “raaâ€, disarankan pula untuk menggunakan penutur asli bahasa Jepang melalui kuisoner
REGISTER IN FIT AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE FORUM ON KASKUS

It shows that people in social community need a certain language to interact with the others in same social community. This leads to the fact that language is divided into some varieties. One of the varieties of language that isused in a community is register. This study was conducted to answer the researchquestions namely 1) what are the register used by the members of Fit and HealthyLifestyle, and 2) to what extent are aspects of situational context in register whichconsists of field, mode and tenor in FHL forum in Kaskus. This study uses descriptive qualitative method because the objects of this research deal with the exploration of human problem based on language phenomenon. In this study, the data were collected from members of internet forum on Kaskus. Thereare two kinds of data used in this study. First, the data are terms used in the interaction in FHL forum on Kaskus which is considered as register. The second data are in the form of register phenomenon of the interaction used by the participant in FHL forum. This study describes the registers phenomenon with the common meaning and particular meaning based on Dictionary and deep interview from the expert.There are 17 registers used by the members of Fit and Healthy Forum on Kaskus. Register itself have different meaning for the member. Some registers have literal meaning and register meaning and some do not. Based on the analysis, situationalcontext which contain of field, mode and tenor was important for the background of the object analysis. Situational context is influencing the use of word literally andspecifically when registers are used by the certain groups or society. Based on field,mode and tenor the writer can make a conclusion that registers are important for themember to reach their purpose or the point of communication. The writer suggests the next researcher to do the analysis of registers based on written text as one of the ways to get the data source. However, the next researcher has to be in touch to get communication with the text writer of the data to get the best data. The next researcher can also analyze registers in community or group which use variation of language in communication
TANGGAPAN TOKOH UTAMA TERHADAP KEADAAN SOSIAL MASYARAKAT PRANCIS DALAM NOVEL L’INGÉNU KARYA VOLTAIRE

Novel L’ingénu merupakan salah satu karya besar Voltaire yang berkisah tentang seorang pemuda bernama L’ ingénu adalah pendatang di wilayah Notre Dame de la Montagne, Bretagne. L’ingénu, yang berarti polos atau lugu menemukan bahwa masyarakat di wilayah tersebut sangat fanatik terhadap agama dan memiliki kebiasaan yang berbeda dengan masyarakat dari tempatnya berasal. Hal itulah yang membuat tokoh utama, L’ingénu, banyak mengungkapkan pemikiran dan pendapatnya terhadap keadaan masyarakat di sekitarnya tersebut.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana tanggapan tokoh utamaterhadap keadaan sosial masyarakat yang ada di sekitarnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori strukturalisme otonom Nurgiyantoro (1995) dengan menitikberatkan pada aspek tokoh dan penokohan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik studi pustaka dan pembacaan secara heuristik dan hermeneutik sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tokoh utama mengungkapkan tanggapannya mengenai agama dengan cara mengkritik perbedaan antara ritual agama yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat Bretagne dengan Kitab Perjanjian Baru. Tanggapan terhadap pemerintah dan sistem pemerintahan juga diungkapkannya dalam bentuk kritik terhadap kerumitan sistem di istana dan ketidakjelasan undang-undang hukum yang ada. Tanggapan tokoh utama tentang relasi antar anggota masyarakat dan kebudayaan masyarakat diungkapkan dalam kritik akan kebiasaan masyarakat di wilayah tersebut yang suka membuang-buang waktu untuk bermalas-malasan dan suka memaksakan kehendak mereka tentang adat istiadat yang berlaku di wilayahtersebut.Bagi penelitian selanjutnya, penulis menyarankan untuk meneliti kesejajaran fakta literer tentang isu agama yang ada di dalam novel dengan fakta yang ada di Prancis pada masa itu. Selain itu, konflik batin dari masing-masing tokoh di dalam novel juga sangat menarik untuk diteliti lebih lanjut.Â
REPRESENTATION OF MICHEL FOUCAULT’S POWER RELATION IN DECEPTION POINT BY DAN BROWN

The knowledge in power relation is used to maintain power. Deception Point novel by Dan Brown published in 2001 describes the scientific discovery surprising with an ingenious deception. Nevertheless, Deception Point clearly portrays distinct political thriller in literary works that ever exist in the world. Deception Point portrays power relation between subjects and alliance.Representation of Michele Foucault’s power relation within his ideas about politics, discursive practice and power/knowledge can be portrayed in Deception Point by Dan Brown. His ideas are to interlace ‘political friendship’ become alliance. It is also as tactics or strategies to reach a political goal. Cultural studies approach is applied in this study because discussing about politic in a state. To make a reliable analysis, twelve characters are analyzed by using theory of power relation. Among twelvecharacters, there are two characters who have power. They are Senator Thomas Sedgewick Sexton and Zachary Herney. Both of them are the candidate president in U.S. According to the background above, the problem of the study is about how the power relation is portrayed in Dan Brown’s novel titled Deception Point.The result of this study shows that the power relation is found in Deception Point. There are two persons in power relation found in the novel. The First is the power relation between Senator Thomas Sedgewick Sexton with Gabrielle Ashe and Private Aero Space; the second is the power relation between Zachary Herney and Lawrence Ekstrom plus NASA, Civilian Scientists, Marjorie Tench, Rachel Sexton and William Pickering plus Delta Force. The power relation is shown by the candidates’ action and used as the strategy in the politic.The writer has the following advice to the next researchers who want to use Deception Point by Dan Brown as the material objects of analysis to analyze psychological impact of power relation done by the main characters. They can also apply power relation in sexuality and power relation in media relating to hegemony
LOCUTIONARY AND ILLOCUTIONARY ACTS FOUND IN INFOMALANG TWITTER ACCOUNT

When people are doing communication,they are not only delivering the message, but also performing an action from the utterance. Speech acts can be found in daily communication, for example in the Internet through social media, twitter. In this study, the researcher analyzes speech act within utterances found in Infomalang twitter account. There are two problems to be solved: (1) What are the locutionary and illocutionary acts found in Infomalang twitter account? (2) What are the types of locutionary and illocutionary acts applied in Infomalang twitter account?This study used qualitative approach in document analysis since it focused onanalyzing the utterances written in infomalang twitter account. The data werecollected from April 5th 2014 to April 20th 2014 which were published on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm until 3 pm. Then the data were analyzed to find out the types of locutionary acts by using Levinson’s theory and the types of illocutionary acts by using Searle’s theory.From 59 utterances, it was found that the most frequent type of illocutionaryacts found in Infomalang twitter account is declarative. This type is found 29utterances which are used to give information. The second type is interrogative which are used to ask question found 22 utterances. The last type is imperative which are to make someone do something found 7 utterances. While the types of illocutionary acts it was found that the most frequent type of illocutionary acts found in Infomalang twitter account is directive. There are 45 directives utterances, 11 representatives utterances, 1 commisive utterance, and 1 expressive utterance. The researcher did not find declaration.The researcher suggests that the next researchers analyze the perlocutionaryact of the utterances. In addition, it is recommended to analyze the same data by using other theories of pragmatics from other experts. The next researchers are also suggested to use another object in order to broaden the comprehension in speech acts such as movies, novels, and speeches
PENERJEMAHAN REGISTER SEPAK BOLA: STUDI KASUS PADA MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI BAHASA DAN SASTRA PRANCIS UNIVERSITAS BRAWIJAYA

Untuk menghasilkan suatu hasil penerjemahan yang baik, penerjemah harus memahami ketiga unsur yang saling berkaitan, yaitu, bahasa sumber, bahasa sasaran dan ragam bahasa. Oleh karena itu, pemahaman konteks dari sebuah teks sangat diperlukan agar penerjemahan dapat menghasilkan teks yang sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab pertanyaan berikut ini (1)  Bagaimanakah bentuk dan makna register sepak bola dalam bahasa Prancis? (2) Bagaimana padanan register sepak bola berbahasa Prancis dalam bahasa Indonesia? (3) Bagaimana karakteristik kesalahan penerjemahan register sepak bola pada teks berbahasa Prancis ke dalam bahasa Indonesia yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa mata kuliah Terjemahan Prancis-Indonesia Dasar tahun akademik 2013/2014?Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena data yang diperoleh dideskripsikan secara jelas dengan Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tinjauan dokumen yang kemudian dianalisis karakteristikpenerjemahannya. Adapun populasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah terjemahan Prancis-Indonesia dasar pada semester akademik 2014, sedangkan sampelnya adalah 10 orang dari 28 orangmahasiswa yang menjadi populasi.Hasil temuan dan pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa register dalam bahasa Prancis berbentuk kata, kelompok kata maupun kalimat dan dalam pencarian padanannya hal itu disesuaikan dengan kosakata bahasa Indonesia, adapun kemampuan mahasiswa dalam melakukan penerjemahan register sepak bola masih kurang. Terlihat dari (1) Presentase kesalahan mahasiswa dalam melakukan penerjemahan bermakna denotasi ini relatif lebih kecil, yaitu 44% (2) Register yang memiliki makna konotasidan metonomia memiliki tingkat presentase kesalahan tertinggi, yaitu 70% dari hasilakumulasi mahasiswa menjawab salah penerjemahan register tersebut (3) register yang berbentuk kalimat meskipun memiliki makna denotasi juga memiliki presentasekesalahan yang tinggi, yaitu 70%. (4) Selanjutnya, mahasiswa juga mengalami kesulitan yang lebih besar jika dihadapkan dengan register berbentuk frase denotasi, yaitu 64% (5) 60% mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menerjemahkan register yang memiliki makna polisemi. (6) Dalam melakukan penerjemahan register yang memiliki makna metafora, 40% dari mahasiswa melakukan kesalahan, hal ini disebabkan karena penerjemahan berbentuk frase memang lebih sulit dilakukan
