Nilai-nilai Universalitas Dakwah dalam al-Quran
This paper explores the universal principles of Islamic propagation (dakwah) according to the holy Qur?an. In doing this, the paper employs the thematic approach by collecting the Quranic verses that speak of da?wah, and interpret them analytically. Specific attention will be given to the verses that are rooted in the Arabic word da?a, which means ?to call?, and balagha, which means ?to convey?. Other verses that have to do with the activity of da?wah will be touched briefly. The paper argues that the concepts of ?calling? and ?conveying? constitute the most important and central notion of da?wah in Islam. Together the two represent the holistic Islamic idea of not only spreading out Islam, but also of building a community based on religiosity. Islamic concept of da?wah is universal because it targets not only Muslim but also all human being based on understanding, tolerance and harmony
Positivisasi Hukum Islam di Indonesia Era Reformasi
The Islamic law in Indonesia has evolved from time to time in line with the demands of the changing history. Recently, and during the era of reformasi?it is commonly known so?the Islamic law has been progressively positivised. By this we mean the dynamics within which the Islamic law has the ability to respond to the new situation that requires the re-thinking of some of its dictums. The role of the government has equally been good; it is completely supportive of this process. This shift in direction taken by Islamic law is due to the fact that the colonial law in the country has become rotten. It is no longer able to deal with the ever-changing situations of this Muslim-majority country. This paper discusses this historic turn, and embarks on the debate concerning the advantages of the Islamic law for a Muslim country like Indonesia. The paper also links this development with the democratic system that the country has adopted. It argues that democracy does serve as a pre-condition in which a revealed law like Syari?ah can prevail
Akar Tradisi Politik Sunni di Indonesia Pada Masa Kerajaan Islam di Nusantara
This research is interested in exploring the seeds of the Sunni political thought during the era of Islamic kingdom in Indonesia. Many have argued that the Islam that has finally prevailed in the country is a Sunni Islam. Accepting this proposition would mean that the political ideals that the early Muslim kings in the land adopted are necessarily Sunni. The forms and contents of these ideals will be the task of this paper to discover. The paper however argues that whatever form the ideals have taken, the Indonesian version of Sunni politics has most likely been developed around power. In other words, the ulama and the princes are two sides of the same coin. While the ulama need the support of the princes to disseminate the Sunni doctrine, the later needs the support of the former for the legitimacy of his authority. The paper hence maintains that there has been no any form of separation between religion and politics in the early history of Indonesian Islam
Bias-bias Dikotomi dalam Buku Ajar Matakuliah Pendidikan Agama Islam di Perguruan Tinggi Umum
The kind of Islamic sciences being taught in many higher education institutes in Indonesia is that which tends to make students isolated from their world. These Islamic sciences in themselves are kind of separation from the religious and worldly, Islamic and secular. This dichotomous character had inflicted upon the students mentality, who in turn become equally dichotomous in their attitude, and way of thinking. This paper tries to explore this, and attempts to seek the best way in which the dichotomous curriculum can be replaced with the integrative one. It argues that, like the nature of Islam, religious sciences cannot be separated from the non-religious ones. The one must work hand in hand with the other so that. The paper addresses specifically the dilemmas intrinsic within the text book used by many higher religious institutes in the country called ?Reorientasi Pendidikan Islam: Menuju Pengembangan Kepribadian Insan Kamil?. The book?we argue?directs the students to adopt a single identity, disregarding therefore the multi and diverse racial, religious and even cultural background of the students. The paper is simply about a warning of the danger of the implication that the book can come up
Rekonstruksi Metodologis Wacana Keagamaan Muhammad Shahrour
The main objective of this paper is to explore the hermeneutical method of Muhammad Shahrour in his interpretation of the holy Qur??n. Shahrour?the Syrian scholar- is known for his view that each and every word in the Qur??n has an independent and unique meaning. In other words, for him no two words share the same meaning in the Qur??n. Hence, he distinguishes between the Qur??n and the Kitab and reckons that the two words imply two different things conceptually. But Shahrour is also known for his interpretation that would pay a good deal of attention to the historical, social, literal and linguistical backgrounds of the verses of the Qur??n. And this he considers as the valid form of exegesis capable of unearthing the hidden meaning of the Qur?an. This paper argues that the hermeneutical method of Shahrour necessitates that the verses of the Qur??n must be interpreted in such a way as to suit the demands of time, and to do that one must not only understand the meaning of the text but also the meaning of its context
Konsep Self-Interest dan Maslahah dalam Rasionalitas Ekonomi Islam
Two important concepts in economics represent the main ideas that this paper is concerned with, namely the concept of self-interest and mas lah ah. These two concepts will be analyzed in the light of what is commonly known as the economic rationality. The rational dimension of economy is about the individual act in consumption and production. An act in consumption and production?like in any other acts?is called rational as long as it is line with one?s logic. When an act is done not in a proper concordance with logic, then the act is not rational. Pure Capitalism in which one would justify his/her acts of oppressing others economi cally for example, cannot be called rational because it is not logical and is not in a proper consonance with the ethical values. We argue therefore that the rational dimension coupled with its ethical apparatus must represent the heart of all economic activities if a healthy economic foundation is to be established. Here we contend that self-interest?as opposed to maslahah?hasno place whatsoever in the whole schemata of rational economy. On the contrary, mas lahah is an alternative for the already hegemonic system of global economy in which self-interest is its core. Maslahah ah is to do with society-interest and not self-interest. At the end, this paper is a critique against the global capitalistic economy that has failed to establish justice and equality for all
Islamisme dan Politisasi Agama Model PKS dalam Pilpres 2009
In the past decade or so, Islamism as a political concept and perhaps as an ideology has gained strong momentum in Indonesia. The fall of Soeharto after more than three decades in power has helped this ideology to emerge and exert itself particularly in the form of religion oriented political party. This paper is interested in exploring the expression and actualization of Islamism by scrutinizing the political behavior of Justice and Welfare Party (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera / PKS) during the 2009 presidential election. We are particularly interested in looking at the use of religious symbols and rites by the party for clear political purposes. We argue that Islamism has been manipulated by PKS during that election as a vehicle to gain power. Hence, the main problem that this paper deals with is actually the idea of the politization of religion by a political party claiming to have represented Islam and its noble teaching
Peluang dan Tantangan Formulasi Metode Studi Islam
In speaking of Islamic studies, we need to remember two things. First is the approach by which we elaborate certain point from certain perspective. In Islamic studies?like in any other studies?approaches vary. Different approaches would bring different conclusions. However, as long as an approach is academically sound and acceptable and meets all standards required, any conclusion resulted thereon is deemed correct and justifiable. Hence, no single conclusion is considered right while the other is wrong. Islamic studies should therefore acknowledge that academic truth is not singular but plural on the ground that there are many approaches toward many conclusions. It is this notion that we want to discuss here. We are interested in exploring the notion of intellectual truth. We hold that differences in opinion should be accepted as natural. Second is, that there is no fundamental differences in the basic value of sciences of any kinds. In other words, what is popularly known as Western science and Islamic science does not in principle differ. Science is science. There cannot be a dichotomy between Islamic or non-Islamic science. Dichotomy in science is not acceptable. Science belongs to all culture, tradition and religion. It does not know particularity. It is universal. Islamic studies should understand this, and use all tools, approaches, methodologies?albeit Western?for their improvement. It is toward these issues that this paper is destined
Studi Normatif Pendidikan Islam Multikultural
This paper basically argues that the many social problems that we are now faced are in fact product of the system of our religious education. The educational system of our Madrasas has not thus far shown its ability to address the spiritual needs of our students. This resulted in students absorbing the physical and at best the intellectual dimension of education by ignoring the moral and behavioral aspects of it. On this ground ?the paper argues- the system of our religious education must be revisited and reevaluated. Such system must not only indoctrinate students to learn about heaven, hell, what is lawful and lawful, belief and infidelity and the like, but must also teach them about tolerance, understanding and other social values. Our religious education must teach students conceptual knowledge but also educate them about how to respect others and live in a plural society. It is about these that this paper is concerned with. It is about the scheme of religious education for pluralism or multiculturalism
Dari Nalar Literalis-Normatif Menuju Nalar Kontekstualis-Historis dalam Studi Islam
It seems legitimate to say that the classical-conventional methodology gives birth to a rigid and theo-centric view of Islam. This form of methodology is dogmatic and is replete with a systematic indoctrination, such that would lead one to accept a particular view of religion often blindly while believing that other views are wrong. This paper offers a challenge to that old-fashion methodology by deconstructing it, and then constructing a new form of methodology. We treat the classical methodology as being literal-normative, and the new one that we propose as being contextual-historical. We argue that the former has gone out of context, because it was invented for its own time. The latter in the meantime is critical and considerate to new demands and contexts. We speak of this new methodology as characteristically multi-disciplin-ary in the sense that within its premises, various forms of knowledge are deemed to have been interconnected and together constitute an integral web of epistemic construction
