Students’ Mathematical Literacy in Solving PISA Problem Using Indonesian Cultural Context

This study aims to examine students’ mathematical literacy in solving PISA problems using the Indonesian cultural context. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. As the subject of this study are three 9th grade students with high, average, and low mathematical abilities. In collecting the data, the researchers used three instruments, namely, mathematical ability test, mathematical literacy test, and interview guidelines. The results reveal that student with high mathematical ability meets all indicators in the process of formulating, employing, and interpreting. Otherwise, students with average or low mathematical abilities only meet some indicators in the process of mathematical literacy. Therefore, it is suggested for the teacher to provide practice especially for students having average or low mathematical abilities with literacy problems using contexts that exist in students’ life, such as the Indonesian cultural contex

Misconception occurs when a person's conception of material differs from the conception stated by experts in the field. The misconceptions are related to the cognitive style of students. The purpose of this study was to describe the misconceptions experienced by students with Field-Independent (FI) and Field-Dependent (FD) cognitive styles on the topics of relations and functions. This type of research was qualitative research. The research subjects are students of class VIII-I SMPN 1 Jogoroto. Data collection techniques were tests and interviews. The results showed that the misconceptions of FI students were the concept of function, the concept of function in the arrow diagram, and the concept of function graphs and non-function graphs. The misconceptions experienced by FD students were the concept of function, the concept of function in the arrow diagram, the concept of codomain and range, the concepts of function graphs and non-function graphs

Kemampuan Argumentasi Peserta Didik dalam Menyelesaikan Masalah Pembuktian Kongruensi Segitiga Ditinjau dari Perbedaan Gender

This research aims to describe the argumentative abilities of male and female students to solve the triangular congruence proof problems. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. The subjects used in this research were 4 students of class X-MIPA1 at MAN Sumenep consisting of 2 male students and 2 female students. Sampling was done by using purposive sampling type quota sampling. Data collection techniques used written tests and interviews, then analyzed based on the indicators of Toulmin's argumentative ability consisting of claims, evidence, warrant, backing, qualifier, and rebuttal. The results showed that there were differences in the argumentation skills possessed by male and female students, as shown in the following data: (1) Male students were at level 1 in conveying their arguments with the fulfilled indicator being a claim. Male students tend to be more careless in solving problems, but they rely more on their verbal skills in answering. (2) Female students are able to reach level 3 in conveying their arguments with the indicators that are fulfilled are claim, evidence, and warrant. Female students tend to be thorough in working on questions and rely more on their symbolic abilities in answering

Pengembangan Modul Berbasis Problem Based Learning pada Materi Statistika SMP Kelas VIII

This research aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective eighth-grade Statistical module based on Problem-Based Learning. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model was used to develop the module in this research. The research findings showed that the developed module was valid with a validity percentage of 85.29% based on the validity test.  Based on the practicality test of a small group with eight respondents, the developed module was stated very practical with a practicality percentage of 88.97%.  These showed that the developed module completed valid and practical criteria.  The practicality test of limited group and module effectiveness test could not be carried out because the learning situation was not effecting during the COVID-19 pandemic

Analisis Kemampuan Literasi Numerasi Peserta Didik SMP dalam Menyelesaikan Soal Cerita Aljabar

This article describes junior high school students' literacy numeracy skills in solving story problems on algebra. The research was conducted at private-junior high school located in Batam with 25 female students' research subjects. The data were obtained through the literacy numeracy skills test and interview results, and then the data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive study. The results showed that the literacy numeracy skills of 25 female students showed an excellent category with an average score of 84.7. Students with the highest score can fulfilled two to three indicators, while students with low score of literacy numeracy skills’ test only fulfilled one indicator. The unfulfillment of indicators is caused by student errors include: 1) Not writing known data information and asked, 2) Wrong in solving the problem, 3) Wrong when calculating, and 4) Not writing conclusions on the results of the answers obtained

The purpose of this study was to determine the mathematical disposition of students who have sanguine and melancholic personality types, and whether the mathematical disposition of students with sanguine types is higher than melancholic types. The population in this study was 260 seventh grade students of Junior High School in the Pituruh district. Sampling using a proportionate random sampling technique was taken as many as 65 students. Data collection was carried out using questionnaires and tests. The results of the first study showed that the mathematical disposition of seventh-grade students in the Pituruh Subdistrict in the 2019 school year in terms of the sanguine and melancholic personality types of more than 60%. The second research result shows that there are differences in mathematical disposition between sanguine and melancholic types, where the mathematical disposition of students with sanguine personality types is higher than students with melancholic personality types

This study aims to describe the mathematical connection ability of students in the high, medium, and low categories in solving math problems based on Polya's steps. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods carried out in class VII SMP PGRI 06 Malang in the 2019/2020 academic year. The subjects of this study were 22 students of which three students' categorized into high mathematical connection ability, four students categorized into medium mathematical connection ability, and fifteen students categorized into low mathematical connection ability. The results of this study show that students with the high category of mathematical connection ability were able to connect between concepts by making concept maps and solving problems well. Students with the medium group of mathematical connection ability can connect between concept, but in the episode of implementing the plan and looking back at the results of their work did not do well. Students with the low category of mathematical connection ability cannot connect between concepts, so they cannot understand the problem well and cannot plan problem-solving

The students’ thinking process when solving HOTS questions in mathematics National Examinations very necessary to know. There are three types of students’ thinking processes used in this study, namely conceptual thinking, semi-conceptual thinking, and computational thinking. This study aims to describe in detail about field-independent and field-dependent students' thinking process when solving HOTS questions in the 2018 Mathematics National Examination. The research subjects were six 8th grade students, consisting of 3 students on each cognitive style. Data collection techniques are written test and interview. The written test and interview results data are analyzed according to indicators of the thinking process. The results of this study indicate that the field independent students' thinking process is conceptual while dependent students are computational
