EVALUASI STATUS MUTU AIR DANAU RAWAPENING
Increasing type and number of human activities will impact on decreasing quality of water. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the water quality status of Rawapening Lake regularly to ensure that the water quality remains in its natural condition. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the water quality status and class of Rawapening Lake. The survey was done in the lake during dry season for 3 months (July to September 2016). Water sampling conducted in seven locations. The measured variables were all parameters as specified in Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001. To determine the water quality status was using storet methods. Determination of the water class was by comparing the concentration of all parameters with the standard. Observations indicated that the Rawapening Lake water quality status was in heavily polluted. There were eight parameters exceeding the standard i.e. TSS, BOD, COD, total phosphor and total coliform, Cd and Pb, and H2S. Therefore, it is necessary to decrease them through activities such as not throwing rubbish into the lake, lifting biomass of water hyacinth, picking up peat soil sediments, using environmentally friendly fuels, reducing fertilizers and pellet, reforesting critical lands, limiting mining activities, banning waste disposal directly to rivers
SEBARAN LOGAM BERAT CADMIUM (Cd) DAN TIMBAL (Pb) PADA AIR SUNGAI DAN SUMUR DI DAERAH SEKITAR TEMPAT PEMBUANGAN AKHIR (TPA) WUKIRSARI GUNUNG KIDUL, YOGYAKARTA
Cadmium (Cd) and Lead (Pb) are heavy metal which is very harmful for human being even though in low concentration. Leachate from municipal landfill is one of heavy metals source and its presence often caused environmental contamination in Indonesia and also many countries. Therefore, study on the distribution of Cd and Pb around landfill area is important to be conducted. Based on the distance between location of Wukirsari landfill and sampling points, samples were taken from river and ground water and then analyzed by using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) instrument in order to know the concentration of Cd and Pb ions in water. In order to know the effect of weather, samples from 10 different sampling points were taken during dry and rainy seasons (two times sampling for each season). The concentration of Cd in the river and ground water is in the range of 0.001-0.03 mg/l and 0.01-0.53 mg/l for Pb (higher than the government standard). The concentration of Cd and Pb decreased during rainy season because of dilution from rain water. The results of this study show that treatment of leachate is urgent to minimize the contamination of heavy metals and negative impact to human being. Constructed wetland could be considered as an appropriate treatment for effluent of leachate treatment plant at landfill
IDENTIFIKASI AKTIFIVITAS EKONOMI DAN NILAI EKONOMI SPASIAL DAS CILIWUNG
The ecological, social and economic functions of the Ciliwung watershed are essentially to meet human needs, from primary to tertiary. The fulfillment of human needs occasionally contributes to the reduction of watershed ecological functions that result in flooding in Jakarta and declining ecological functions in the Jakarta Bay. Therefore, the study of the identification of economic activity and economic value spatially along the Ciliwung watershed needs to be done so as not to err in the management of the watershed in the future. This research uses survey method. Sampling using multi-stage sampling method. Spatial analysis of land use is done by using GIS by Arc / View method, economic value analysis is done with use value and non-use value. The use value approach uses a value-added production approach that is GDP of gross production of each sector of economy, non-use value using CVM approach by calculating WTP value. Percentage of Ciliwung Watershed cover: Forest 46.87 percent (Primary Forest 9.25 percent, Secondary Forest 25.25 percent, Plantation Forest 12.07 percent), Shrubs 0.62 percent, Plantation 1.06 percent, Dry Land Agriculture 9.68 percent, Rice Field 1.44 percent, Settlement 40.09 percent. Economic activity of The Downstream Ciliwung Watershed is dominated by the secondary sector (manufacturing, electricity, gas, water and construction). Economic activity of The Middle and Upstream Ciliwung Watershed is dominated by primary sector (Food crops, horticultural crops, plantation crops, Veterinary, Mining). The use value of Upper Ciliwung Watershed is Rp. 13.1 trillion, Middle Rp53.1 trillion and Downstream Rp. 1,117.6 trillion. Non-use value for the existence of The Upstream Ciliwung Watershed of Rp. 0.055 trillion, Rp. 0.235 trillion of The Middlel and Downstream Rp. 0.657 trillion per year. The economic value of Upstream Ciliwung Watershed is Rp. 13.12 trillion, Midle Rp5.545 trillion and Downstream is Rp. 1,118.31 trillion
JENIS PAKAN MEMPENGARUHI PRODUKSI BIOGAS DARI FESES GAJAH, STUDI KASUS GAJAH SUMATERA (Elephas maximus sumatranus Temminck, 1847) DI TAMAN MARGASATWA RAGUNAN, JAKARTA SELATAN
Elephant dung is a source of methane gas, which the gas is the main contributor to greenhouse gas if not used as fuel. Wild elephants use grass leaves as their feed, but in Ragunan Wildlife Park, elephants are fed also with a combination of elephant grass, sweet potatoes, maize, and bananas, which aim to meet immediate nutritional needs and ensure their health. Therefore, this study examined the biogas production of elephant feces associated with the feed given. The purpose of this study is to investigate the contribution of biogas that is emitted from the elephant feces as a result of two kinds of feed, which were elephant grass and combination of elephant grass, sweet potatoes, maize, and bananas. Previously, the elephants were acclimatized for 4 days with the two types of feed. Fermentation of the feces was conducted by using simple fermenters by volume of 3.42 L for 28 days and performed measurements of temperature, pH, concentration of ammonia, concentration of volatile fatty acids, substrate degradation and production of biogas. The result showed that the composition of feed affects the physico-chemical characteristics of the feces, production of ammonia and volatile fatty acids, substrate degradation and production of biogas. The feces of Sumatran elephant fed with elephant grasses has higher potential for decomposition to mineralization into biogas and produce a higher proportion of methane gas carbon dioxide, than those fed with the combinated feed. This result needs to be a concern because with the fiber-rich feed like in their natural habitats, elephants have the potential to emit higher gas emissions. Therefore the biogas released from the elephant feces or other animals should be processed and utilized to meet the energy needs in the wildlife park itself

The perception of tourists is one of the most important aspects in the development of a tourist area, especially tourism that emphasizes the aspects of education and conservation. This study aims to find information on the perception of tourists in the development of conservation-based education tourism. The method used is survey method and the sample in this research is the tourists and related stakeholder in development. Determination of the number of samples in the population using Slovin formula, so the result at least 100 tourists. Data analysis is descriptively quantitative. The location of the study was conducted at the Elephant Conservation Center (PKG) Way Kambas National Park (TNWK). The results of interviews to 200 respondents known as 98% of respondents who come to PKG aims to travel elephants, 1% doing research and 1% work visit activities and other activities. Perceptions of elephant attractions are classified as Good (44%), 18% is not good. Besides, there were also perception study on service at Elephant Conservation Center (PKG), 53% stated good service, 53% stated facilities good enough, 55% said tourism tourism in PKG quite good, while 57% accessibility to tourism object is not good, and 90% agreed if in the PKG developed into educational tours bebasis konsevasi.Hasil this study is expected to be a reference for managers in developing PKG TNWK become one of the elephant conservation tourism destination in Lampung Province
ANALISIS POTENSI EKOWISATA HEART OF BORNEO DI TAMAN NASIONAL BETUNG KERIHUN DAN DANAU SENTARUM KABUPATEN KAPUAS HULU
Betung Kerihun National Park (TNBK) and Danau Sentarum National Park (TNDS) is one of the Conservation District that directly adjacent to neighboring Malaysia and as a form of Transboundary Conservation Area (TBCA) between Indonesia and Malaysia. This national park is also included in the National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN) and becomes one of the three Destination Management Organization of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia as well as the National Tourism Destination. Tourism sector, particularly ecotourism can be used as the spearhead and even become a leading sector in increasing the potential of PAD. This study aims to analyze the tourism potential and attractions of attraction in two national parks and determine the feasibility in ecotourism development. This research was using descriptive research, with approach using analysis of tourism potency and object of natural tourist attraction (Obyek Daya Tarik Wisata Alam/ODTWA). The results show that TNBK and TNDS is feasible to be developed as ecotourism destination based on the recapitulation of potential value of objects and natural attractions attraction with a potential value index of 78.20%. Some criteria that require attention and improvement are accessibility and accommodation, so it can be a priority if this national park area developed into ecotourism destination
ZONASI DAN KOMPOSISI VEGETASI HUTAN MANGROVE PANTAI CENGKRONG DESA KARANGGANDU KABUPATEN TRENGGALEK PROVINSI JAWA TIMUR
A research on mangrove forest at coast Cengkrong in the village of Karanggandu aimed at defining zoning and composition of magrove vegetation. The sampling method consists of 3 zoning. Each zone established 3 plots, consists of 10 m x10 m plot size of trees category, 5 m x 5 m of stake category, and 1 m x 1 m of seedling category to repeat in 3 times. Data analysis of mangrove vegetation employed Improtance Value Indeks (IVI). The research results found 12 mangrove species namely Avicennia alba, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Bruguiera parviflora, Ceriops decandra, Ceriops tagal, Lumnitczera racemosa, Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Sonneratia alba, Sonneratia caseolaris, Xylocarpus granatum Nypa fruticans. Reffering to the the mangrove zonation indicates the zone I or open zone grows Sonneratia alba and it can be found Rhizophora mucronata, Ceriops decandra with salinity of 6 ppt. Zone II or middle zone grows species of Avicennia alba and it also be found Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum with salinity of 6 ppt. Zone III or zone that is closer to the landward grows species Xylocarpus granatum and also appears Lumnitzera racemosa,Bruguiera parviflora with salinity of 4 ppt. It showed that the formation of mangrove zonation at Coast Cengkrong is still categorized as less stable, due to rehabilitation since 2002 were done without understanding the type of site suitability and natural factors which causes the fruits drop when the tides of sea water, so that the growth is not stable
KARAKTERISTIK SPASIOTEMPORAL KEKERINGAN METEOROLOGI DI KABUPATEN GORONTALO TAHUN 1981-2016
Drought is one of the natural disasters that can cause disadvantages, especially in the agricultural sector. Gorontalo Regency is the corn production center, yet it has high vulnerability and low adaptive capacity towards the climate change. In addition, its vulnerability to the impact of drought is seen from the high potential for environmental damage, the disadvantages due to the drought and the potential of the population exposed to drought. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is the estimator tool employed to assess the severity of the drought. This study utilized monthly rainfall data from 17 stations in Gorontalo Regency and 2 stations outside Gorontalo Regency during the period of 1981-2016. The SPI values were calculated by utilizing DrinC software and spatial interpolation of drought using ArcGIS software. The result shows that the longest time of drought occurred in 1982, 1986, 1997 and 2015 due to El Nino phenomenon with moderate and strong category with long duration. Further, analysis result in the last four decades reveals that the worst drought occurred in 1982. Based on the result of frequency analysis on the SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12 time scales, drought is frequently taken place in western regions. Thus, this result can be a reference in managing the water resources in Gorontalo Regency. The plan in the commodity-based agriculture sector can be developed since the result of spatial analysis indicates that SPI can identify the diversity of drought severity. It is necessary to place the climate change scenarios in order to prepare the adaptation and mitigation measures of drought impacts due to the uncertainty of future climate conditions. This is very helpful to provide an idea about the dynamics of drought.
SAMPLING DESIGN FOR WATER QUALITY MONITORING IN MARINE RESERVE : A STUDY CASE AT BANDA SEA CONSERVATION PARK
Design of sampling site water quality monitoring at marine reserve is critical, to optimize the effectiveness of periodic assessment. A simple stratified systematic design, that been usually used in most of monitoring anlaysis, may not maximize the information of spatial data in marine hydrology. The present work applied a multivariate statistical analysis and spatial autocorrelation methods to develop an optimal sampling design for water quality assessment in tropical marine reserve, Banda Sea Conservation Park, Indonesia. Seasonal (west, intermediate, and east monsoon season in Indonesia) and spatial (38 stations) water quality analysis (Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen, pH, and nutrient) in 3 zones of Marine Reserve were conducted. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed Dissolved Oxygen (DO) was the principal variable for the sampling design criterion. Spatial DO Variograms showed relocation of the sampling stations, to optimize the design of water quality monitoring. Therefore, even the principal variable may vary at other locations, depends on hydrology and other area specific characteristics, the proposed technique could be applied in sampling design concerning hydrology monitoring
IDENTIFYING AREAS AFFECTED BY FIRES IN SUMATRA BASED ON TIME SERIES OF REMOTELY SENSED FIRE HOTSPOTS AND SPATIAL MODELING
Wildfires threaten the environment not only at local scales, but also at wider scales. Rapid monitoring system to detect active wildfires has been provided by satellite remote sensing technology, particularly through the advancement on thermal infrared sensors. However, satellite-based fire hotspots data, even at relatively high temporal resolution of less than one-day revisit period, such as time series of fire hotspots collected from TERRA and AQUA MODIS, do not tell exactly if they are fire ignitions or fire escapes, since other factors like wind, slope, and fuel biomass significantly drive the fire spread. Meanwhile, a number of biophysical fire simulation models have been developed, as tools to understand the roles of biophysical factors on the spread of wildfires. Those models explicitly incorporate effects of slope, wind direction, wind speed, and vegetative fuel on the spreading rate of surface fire from the ignition points across a fuel bed, based on either field or laboratory experiments. Nevertheless, none of those models have been implemented using real time fire data at relatively large extent areas. This study is aimed at incorporating spatially explicit time series data of weather (i.e. wind direction and wind speed), remotely sensed fuel biomass and remotely sensed fire hotspots, as well as incorporating more persistent biophysical factors (i.e. terrain), into an agent-based fire spread model, in order to identify fire ignitions within time series of remotely sensed fire hotspots
