    In Indonesia the implementation of the spatial plan is only a small part of the plan. The impact of incompatibility with spatial planning is the deterioration of environmental quality. Tanah Datar District has a growth rate of settlements of 1.3 percent/year period 2000-2017. The purpose of this research is to determine index consistency of spatial plan and determination of policy direction of development of settlement area. To determine the consistency index of spatial planning to do a comparison between land use with the spatial plan. Land use map produced from Landsat ETM + 8, and map spatial plans resulting from the RTRW period 2008-2028 In Tanah Datar District. In addition, to determine the direction of the policy of settlement development using the ISM method. The number of elements analyzed by 10 elements, with 24 experts. The results show that around 43.7 percent ofsettlement development is incompatible with the spatial plan. Therefore, it is necessary for government policy to be consistent with spatial planning and law enforcement on spatial violations

    One of the threats faced with Cibodas Biosphere Reserve area is the changes of forest area into plantation. Various efforts were made by Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGP) management to restore the area to its original function.  One of the efforts is planting trees in the ex-plantation area that has been abandoned by the farmers. In 2016, Cibodas Botanics Garden was collaborated with TNGP to plant native trees species that had potency of high carbon sequestration. Six hundreds seedlings from 12 native trees species were planted ie, Altingia excelsa Noronha, Castanopsis argentea (Blume) A.DC., Castanopsis javanica (Blume) A.DC., Castanopsis tunggurut (Blume) A.DC, Dacrycarpus imbricatus (Blume) de Laub., Euonymus indicus B. Heyne ex Wall., Lithocarpus indutus (Blume) Rehder, Magnolia blumei Prantl, Persea rimosa Zoll. ex Meisn., Syzygium acuminatissimum (Blume) DC., Sloanea sigun (Blume) K. Schum., and Schima wallichii Choisy. The observations of evaluation done by January, February and July 2016. Parameters were observed are plant height, root collar diameter and crown width. Then, the data were analyzed by RGR (Relative Growth Rate) and RPI (Relative Performance Index). The results of observation during six months after planting shown that the average survival rate was 60.56%, with the largest survival rates were Altingia excelsa and Castanopsis javanica (80%). Castanopsis tunggurut was the lowest survival rate than the other plants (33,33%). The best growth rate is shown by Schima wallichii. In this case, obstructed plant growth is caused by the high density of weeds and shrubs so that seedlings are less exposed to sunlight and nutritional deficiencies, and also the damage that caused by humans, especially for Castanopsis tunggurut and Sloanea sigun

    Adaptation to climate change cannot be separated from the climatic conditions and vulnerability of local communities. This study aims to determine the vulnerability of household livelihoods in urban coastal areas to climate variability. This research was conducted in coastal city of Kupang. Community livelihood vulnerability analysis using vulnerability index (LVI and LVI-IPCC). In addition, an analysis of climate variability of rainfall and average temperature from 1988-2017 was also carried out. The results of the study show that climate variability is seen in decreases in rainfall and and increase in surface temperature in the past 30 years. The LVI and LVI-IPCC scores also show the vulnerability of livelihoods on a medium scale in three sample villages. Climate variability in urban coasts can have an impact on coastal communities on the components of livelihood strategies, food, homes and land and water which are generally influenced by climatic factors.     It is estimated that the increase of sugarcane production will also increase the amount of bagasse. Sugar mills utilize dried bagasse as boiler fuel and the burning results a bagasse ash.Unrefined bagasse is estimated to contribute to the impact of the environment, including health problems when inhaled by humans. When covers the leaves, it will block the process of photosynthesis in plant. This are due to the size of ash and the contents of silica dioxide compound inside the bagasse. Besides providing impact, silica dioxide compounds are compounds that have high economic value as it can be used as silicon. The purposes of the utilization of bagasse ashes into silicon are to reduce the impact on the environment, to increase the economic value of bagasse ash and to empower community. The results of the feasibility analysis of silicon production from bagasse ash arethe planned production capacity of 10,000 tons/year, breakeven point (BEP) that is 3,400 tons/year or 34% of production capacity, Return of Investment (ROI) that is 28%, Payout Time (POT) of 3,6 years and 28,25% of Internal Rate of Return (IRR).Therefore, the plan to utilize the bagasse ash from silicon can be considered to be done

    IMPACT OF COAL MINING IN FOREST AREA TO CARBON EMISSION IN KUTAI KARTANEGARA, EAST KALIMANTAN

    Coal mining is an activity that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, both from methane gas release of coal trap and the loss of lan cover plants. This study was conducted to estimate carbon emissions in coal mining areas inside forest areas by analyzing changes in landcover. The area of this study is Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan, where coal mining activities are quite massive. To obtain the extent of changes in land cover and the amount of carbon emissions in the area, analysis of Landsat 5 TM and Landsat 7 ETM+ imagery in 2010 and also the 2016 Landsat 8 OLI / TIRS imagery was used. The results showed that in the area of study there was a change in landcover of 12,663.28 Ha in the forest areas used for coal mining activities. Carbon emissions generated from this activity amounted to 0.60 Mton CO2-E

    Excessive use of pesticides can have an impact on the environment, including the loss of pesticide residues in soil and agricultural products. The purpose of this study was to determine the spreading of organophosphate pesticide residues in the shallot production area of  Brebes Regency, Central Java. Research locations were two districts selected by purposive sampling based on production area, namely Kersana and Wanasari Districts. Organophosphate compounds analyzed include chlorpyrifos, paration, profenofos, diazinon, fenitrotion, metidation and malation. Organophosphate residue analysis was carried out on seven soil samples and seven shallot products. Pesticide residue analysis was carried out using the standard method by using a gas chromatography device with an electron capture detector. Based on analysis, seven residues of organophosphate pesticides were chlorpyrifos, paration, profenofos, diazinon, fenitrotion, metidation and malation, spread in Kersana District, and six  pesticides residues (except profenofos) spread in Wanasari District. In soil samples, the highest residues obtained in two districts were chlorpyrifos compounds, chlorpyrifos compounds in Kersana District was higher than Wanasari District. In the shallot sample, the highest residues in two districts are diazinon compounds, diazinon compounds in the sample of Kersana District was  higher than Wanasari District. There were  several samples of shallot product contained organophosphate residue  exceed the maximum concentration of residual limit (RML)

    Mangrove ecosystem is a region that acts as a transition between land and sea. This ecosystem has ecological, socio-economic and physical functions. The decline in the quality and quantity of mangrove forests has resulted in very alarming impacts, such as increased abrasion, reduced fishing catches, seawater intrusion, and others. This study aims to analyze the biodiversity of mangrove ecosystem in the Randutatah coal. The results showed that mangrove ecosystems were dominated by Rhizophora stylosa species with the highest INP values in tillers and tree categories. Observations of fauna in the area found 2 types of mammals, 34 species of birds, 7 species of herpetofauna, and 9 species of insects. the wealth of bird species in this region is high. Phytoplankton composition is dominated by Bacillariophyceae class, zooplankton is dominated by crustacean class, and nekton is dominated by Mugilidae class. Mangrove conditions in Randutatah can increase biodiversity in these locations, as well as the condition of the waters around the mangrove ecosystem that become fertile so that it can be used by the community to catch fish or crabs that have an impact on the growth of the economic value of the community

    AbstractThis study analysed the suitability of land use for community forestry in the semi-arid region on the island of West Timor, exactly on the border between Indonesia and East Timor. The purpose of this study is to determine the most suitable location for community forest management based on the specified parameters. The analytical method used is the Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE). The MCE employing five parameters and determine the criteria for each of the parameters through preliminary surveys, namely: rainfall, land slope, soil type, distance to local roads, and the distance from the state border.  Weight for each parameter is determined using process hierarchy analysis (PHA) with expert opinion, then integrated the results from PHA into GIS to determine the location of lands eligible for community forest management. The results of analysis showed there is an area of 4,943 ha (6.7%) eligible to be managed by the community in the border region in North Central Timor.  The lands spread across 43 villages and are in various size. Small-scale, simple and economical forest management can be introduced in these 43 villages. It is projected that this initiative can have significant poverty alleviation effect.  The initiative can enable people in 11 villages (27%) to move out of national poverty standard and people in 4 villages (12%) to move out of international $2PPP poverty standard

    ABSTRACTPoboya River has provide many benefits for local as to suffice their needs of clean water, agriculture/ plantation, husbandry, household and also used for people’s gold mining. Gold mining is dominated by amalgamation techniques which are potentially contaminated by mercury. This study aims to derive a mercury pollution control strategy from a sustainable people’s gold mining. This study includes interviewing the key stakeholders that have been chosen purposively using questionnaire. The data obtained were then analyzed by AHP. The results of this study found that potential factors on mercury pollution control were government policies which related to the implementation of gold mining management, supporting facilities and infrastructure, and the adequate level of community education. The main stakeholders who had the control should be hold by the government (local government), law enforcers and the community. Preferred objectives should be to reduce the pollution and to restore the ecosystem.  The ideal strategy for mercury pollution control from the gold mining process become successful and sustainable are super minor technology that uses the density without adding hazardous and toxic materials

    The territorial waters of Jayapura City, especially the waters of North Jayapura and South Jayapura are the centers of capture fisheries activities of big pelagic species, namely tuna and skipjack tuna, which need to be utilized to provide welfare for the community, especially fishermen in a sustainable manner. For this reason, this study was conducted to analyze the level of utilization of big pelagic fisheries resources and analyze the welfare level of big pelagic fishermen households in Jayapura city waters. Primary data collection is done through interviews with respondents who are randomly selected. Utilization level analysis was carried out using multispecies bioeconomic analysis and analysis of fisherman welfare levels was carried out using the criteria of the poverty line set by the Central Bureau of Statistics. The results showed the actual utilization rates of tuna and skipjack fisheries resources in the waters of Jayapura City are still in the continuous production of MSY and MEY. Nevertheless, the utilization of these big pelagic fisheries resources needs to be supported by economic institutions that can better distribute their benefits, especially to fishermen. This is because based on the survey conducted; most of the household welfare of the big pelagic fishermen tuna and cakalang in the waters of Jayapura City are still classified as not prosperous
