Cost Benefit Analysis dalam Pengembangan Fasilitas Pengolahan Sampah: Studi Kasus Kota Pekanbaru
Municipal solid waste management is a public service that should be provided by the government and needs a significant portion of the government budget, so it is deemed as a cost center. Often, benefit from the waste management could not directly be nominalized into money. The study aims to compare the total cost needed and benefit taken, directly and indirectly, using Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and puts Pekanbaru City as a case study. Recently, there were 5 units of waste recycling facility (TPS 3R), 5 units of composting facility, and 145 unit of waste bank available in Pekanbaru City. In order to compare with the existing condition, the study developed 2 scenarios related to the recycling facilities, namely Scenario A for optimizing capacity of the facilities, and Scenario B for providing 2 facilities in each sub-district until 2025. The result shows that the Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) value were 2.903 for Scenario A, and 4.478 for Scenario B, comparing to 1.624 for the existing condition. The study provides a proof that the municpality should prioritze waste treatment rather than waste disposal as it has higher total benefit and the measure is in-line with the national policy on waste management

Abstract: This article is intended to explore the problems of environmental ethics to increase public awareness about the importance of the beach conservation. This research method is descriptive qualitative and quantitave, the primary data was obtained through observation and supported by informants interview. Secondary data were obtained through literature reviews and documents. The data were processed with descriptive techniques. The results of study explained that, (1) The 90 percent of domestic tourists are the resident of East Java, with an age range 1-60 years old, background are very heterogeneous, i.e. worker, farmer, students, researcher, professional, and others. The purpose of going to the beach is also very heterogeneous, which are for a vacation, religious/spiritual, research, economic reason, and others; (2) The different types of biota which are taken for the purpose of tourists pleasure when they are at the coast are the animal of the phylum Echinodermata; (3) Various organisms which were taken by tourists were not for research purposes but for a moment\u27s pleasure, mostly thrown into the trash due to the damage or rotted as placed in pickup container, and economic factors, The awareness of the importance of conserving marine biota for conservation purposes is very low
Perubahan Perladangan menjadi Perkebunan dan Dampaknya terhadap Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan di Provinsi Riau
Swidden agriculture is often associated on forest and land fires. Meanwhile, swidden agriculture do not always cause forest and land fires because the community applied their local knowledge. This study aim to describe the changes of swidden agriculture practices to plantation, and explain the impact of the swidden agriculture and plantation practice on forest and land fires in Riau Province. Theory of cultural change dan theory of innovation adoption were used to explain it. Survey method was used in this study. The data were collected from interview techniques, observation and recording of secondary data from various sources. The results of this study show that law enforcement is the main reason in the technological changes. The results of this study also indicate that forest and land fires were not caused by swidden agriculture. In other words, swidden agriculture did not cause forest and land fires
Analisis Peran Koperasi dalam Pengelolaan Hutan Rakyat di Kebumen
Community forests are a viable alternative for timber suppliers. Community forestry institutions are required to ensure its sustainability. Cooperatives become one of the appropriate alternatives in accordance with the institution at the site level in community forest development. One of the peasant organizations that manages the human resources in the form of cooperatives is a Taman Wijaya Rasa Cooperative (Kostajasa) located in Kebumen. This study aims to analyze the role of Kostajasa in community forest management. The descriptive analysis used in describing the role of Kostajasa in community forest management supporting three community forest subsystems, namely production, processing and marketing subsystem. Kostajasa has played a good role in all three subsystems. In the production subsystem, there are still less roles in the determination of timber products to be managed, and setting the felling regulation. In the processing subsystem Kostajasa have already play a good role to connect several industries to receive raw materials from farmers’ timber and maintain the demand continuity for raw materials so that farmers’ timber is absorbed. In the marketing subsystem, Kostajasa also play a good role among others, shorten the marketing chain of wood products from community forest and offering a better price outside Kostajasa
IMPACT OF CHANGES IN CLIMATE AND LAND USE ON THE FUTURE STREAMFLOW FLUCTUATION
Beside land use change, future climate change potentially alters streamflow fluctuation of a river basin in Indonesia. We investigated relative impact of changes in climate and land use on the streamflow fluctuation of a watershed for future condition (2025). To account for the climate change, we simulated future rainfall and temperature scenarios using the downscaled rainfall and mean surface temperature of 24 CMIP5 GCM outputs with moderate scenario of RCP4.5. We used distributed hydrologic model (SWAT) to simulate relative impact of changes in climate and plantation expansion on the future streamflow fluctuation. The SWAT model performed well with the Nash-Sutcliff efficiency values of 0.80-0.85 (calibration) and 0.84-0.86 (validation). The results indicated that the climate change caused 32% decrease of the low flows during dry season and 96% increase of the flooding peak discharge during rainy season. Meanwhile, the plantation expansion led to 40% decrease of the low flow in the dry season and 65% increase of the flooding peak discharge in wet season. Both changes indicated strong impact on the extreme events such as flooding peak discharge and low flows. The impact of the climate change on the increased peak discharge was stronger compared to that of land use change. Meanwhile, the impact of the land use change on the low flow was stronger compared to that of the climate change. The results of this study pointed out that both climate change and the plantation expansion potentially become crucial factors for the future water security in Indonesia
Pemberdayaan Masyarakat dalam Pelestraian Hutan dan Pertanian Berkelanjutan di Sekitar Suaka Margasatwa Karakelang, Sulawesi Utara
The protection of Karakelang wildlife sanctuary has been challenged by forest encroachment, timber harvesting and wildlife poaching - all of which are attributed to social economic condition of the communities living in the vicinity. A community based conservation program was delivered to strengthen communities’ role in maintaining forest integrity while making good income from sustainable agriculture. This action research using mixed methodology evaluates the influence of program delivery in changing the knowledge, attitude and practice of forest protection and sustainable agriculture among beneficiaries in three villages. Data was collected using structured interview, while other supporting information was taken from project reports and field notes. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test reveals that program has influence in changing the knowledge of respondents in both forest protection and sustainable agriculture, as well as in the change of attitude and practice regarding sustainable agriculture. However, it does not have influence in changing their attitude and practice toward forest protection. As shwon by economic indicator, program has contributed in providing new source of income to farmers household. The result of logistic regression shows that age, education, land ownership and income has influence in the change of people’s knowledge about forest biodiversity. Only age has influence in change of attitude towards sustainable agriculture, and only land ownership has influence on support to forest protection
Keterlibatan perempuan dalam konservasi satwa melalui kegiatan penangkaran burung
The nature of caring and nurturing that shown by women makes them tend to care about the wildlife.Women are able to play a role in the captivity birds because related to household activity of caring. The study aims to identify the profile of the captive breeding and the women who are involved. The data obtained from 90 respondent by interview and observation. The respondents, which are the captive breeding in the area of Bogor and Klaten that accommodate protected species of birds, were determined by using a purposive sampling method. Based on the result, both captive breedings in Klaten and Bogor have involved women in the middle scale as well as in the household scale. Most women who are involved in the activities of captive breeding of the birds are in the age between 31 and 40 years with high school degree as their highest educational background and married women. In Bogor and the middle scale of captive breeding in Klaten, economic improvement is the sole motivation that has driven the women to be involved in the captive breeding activities. While, in the household scale in Klaten there are two motivations, which are economy and spare time
Stand structure of Unmanaged Red Meranti Plantation (ShoreaLeprosula Miq.) in Haurbentes Forest Research, Jasinga
Natural regeneration of Dipterocarpaceae depends on the availability of the mother trees, flowering cycle, and favorable site conditions. Potential seed of Shorea leprosula in Haurbentes Forest Research, Jasinga District, Bogor, should be supported with sufficient regeneration ability. This research aims to identify the condition of regeneration of Shorea leprosula, environmental conditions and soil conditions that support for the sustainability of the S. leprosula regeneration in Haurbentes Forest Research, Jasinga, Bogor district. The results of the vegetation analysis showed that condition of the forest regeneration S. leprosula in KHDTK Haurbentes quite sufficient for seedling which are found quite a lot and dominating on every block of observations. However, seedlings are experiencing obstacles in resuming its growth to the level of sapling and poles. This can be seen by the existence of another species that dominates at the level of the sapling and the least amount of poles found. The existence of competition with other species and lack of space grows to regeneration due to the dominance of mature trees suspected that caused the regeneration S. leprosula on blocks of thisplant disturbed. Environmental conditions and soil conditions sufficiently support growth of S. leprosula. However, the lack of light intensity that goes into the stands is suspected to be one of the barriers to regeneration of S. leprosula
