Pemanfaatan Citra VIIRS untuk Deteksi Asap Kebakaran Hutan dan Lahan di Indonesia
The observation of smoke because of land and forest fires in some regions in Indonesia mostly use the composite image visually. This study aims to develop the detection model of forest and land fire smoke using a digital analysis, which will be faster in supporting spatial information on emergency response in monitoring forest and land fire smoke. The method used is multi-threshold method and compare it with the existing model that is by modification of method Li et al. (2015). The data used is Suomi NPP-VIIRS satellite imagery. The results concluded that the VIIRS image can be used to detect the smoke and smoke distribution of forest fire and digital smoke. The multi-threshold model uses reflectance data obtained from the M4 visible channel, and the brightness temperature data obtained from the LWIR VIIRS M14 channel, with an average accuracy of 82.2% with a Commision error of 9.8% and an Ommision error of 10%. While the model of modification Li is based only on reflectance of visible-channel data i.e. channel M1, M2, M3, and SWIR VIIRS M11 channel, which has an average accuracy of 72.3% with a Commision error of 0.3% and an Ommision error of 27.4%. The multi-threshold model is a model that has the potential to be applied to detect forest and land fire smoke
Struktur dan Komposisi Vegetasi di Habitat Cemara Laut (Casuarina equisetifolia L.) pada Tiga Kawasan Konservasi di Provinsi Bengkulu
Sheoak (Casuarina equisetifolia L) is a species of monotypic taxa that has grown naturally in coastal Bengkulu Province. However, the various dynamics occurring in the coastal areas have disrupted the habitat of this species, affecting the structure and composi-tion of the vegetation. This research aims to analyze the structure and composition of vegetation in sheoak habitat in three conser-vation areas. The vegetation data was collected by line transect plot method. The analysis shows that sheoak stands form an invert-ed curve J in three conservation areas although they were not perfect due to the low density of poles which can be caused by dis-turbances that come from nature and human activity. Vegetation composition in sheoak habitat was composed by 36 species of 27 plant families consisting of shrubs and trees. Sheoak dominated the three areas only at the rate of tree growth while the growth rates of seedlings, saplings and poles were dominated by nyamplung (Calophyllum inophyllum) so the dominance of sheoak can be replaced with nyamplung. Sheoak also supported better habitat for other plant species to grow that showed diversity index value 1.4 to 1.9
KEANEKARAGAMAN SPESIES HERPETOFAUNA PADA BERBAGAI TIPE TUTUPAN LAHAN DI LANSEKAP PERKEBUNAN SAWIT: Studi Kasus di PT. BLP Central Borneo
The expansion of oil palm plantations in Indonesia is often blamed as the drivers of natural resource destruction and decrease the tropical biodiversity. Herpetofauna is one of biodiversity on oil palm plantation, but information about its species diversity is still limited. This research was aims to reveal the variation of diversity of Herpetofauna on oil palm landscape in central Borneo. Field inventory was conducted on seven types of land cover i.e. young oil palm, mature oil palm, old oil palm, High Conservation Value area, secondary forest, shrubs, and smallholder plantation. We used Visual Encounter Method to invent Herpetofauna spesies on all land cover type. This study reveal that the diversity of Herpetofauna species in PT BLP varies by land cover type. The land cover types of HCV and Secondary Forest have the largest number of species (12 species). Secondary Forest is the type of land cover with the highest abundance among other types of land cover, followed by old oil palm plantations. The oil palm plantations lanscape with different type of land cover can be part of the habitat for several Herpetofauna species and managed for sustainable oilpalm scheme
IDENTIFIKASI KERUSAKAN ANTROPOGENIK KAWASAN HUTAN LINDUNG MUTIS TIMAU DI PULAU TIMOR BAGIAN BARAT DAN UPAYA PENANGGULANGANNYA
The life of humankind has a close relationship with its surrounding forests. The interaction /relationship is often in a lame and brings a negative impact on the forest. The impacts of these unbalanced relationships are the destruction of all production, conservation and protection areas of forests. This study aimed to identify the anthropogenic damages in Mutis Timau protected forest areas. This research was a qualitative research with a descriptive approach using a purposive sampling and a snowball sampling technique. The purposive sampling was used to select resource persons of the FMU chiefs, forest police staff, retired FMU employees and village heads where the samples were undertaken. While the snowball sampling technique was set according to a snowball pattern that began with the village leaders (village heads) and then progressed to other resource persons to obtain accurate information related to anthropogenic activities that caused forest destruction. The number of sources of informants were 62 people. Methods of data collection in this study include observation methods, indepth interviews and documentation. The preliminary research results indicate that the anthropogenic damages in Mutis Timau protected forest areas include forest encroachment, livestock grazing, shifting cultivation and forest fires, and illegal logging. Anthropogenic damage can be resolved by the management by involving community participation through joint forest management (collaborative) and can be conducted by using the social forestry system
SEBARAN SPASIAL KONDISI LINGKUNGAN HUTAN MANGROVE DI PESISIR PANTAI KOTA KUPANG
Mangrove is a specific ecosystem, which commonly is in the small wave beach or covered from wave beach area, affected by the sea tidal and water fill from the land. The purpose of this research is to know the spatial spread of the mangrove habitat environmental factor (salinity, mud thickness and slope) at the Kupang seashore ( Paradiso, mangrove tourism and Oesapa). The salinity condition of the mangrove forest at Paradiso is low up to medium category, the mud thickness is slight, thick and very thick. The slope is 2%-2,66%. At the mangrove tourism location, the salinity is varied from the dominant range value 23,33% and 24,66%, mud thickness is 10,88 cm up to 51,33 cm, and the slope of 1%-3%. At Oesapa mangrove forest location, the salinity is between 10%-18%, the mud thickness is 21,55 cm – 49,22 cm, and the slope is 2%-3%. The environmental condition of the mangrove forest which is at Kupang seashore must be a model for the planning and the management of the mangrove forest in Kupang
Karakteristik Biofisik Ruang Terbuka Hijau Pada Hutan Kota Samarinda, Provinsi Kalimantan Timur
Population growth and economic activity always require space. Physical, social and economic composition always changes due to spatial land use. Changes in spatial land use that do not take into account the biophysical balance will result in natural disasters. Urban problems in the use of space result in the disturbance of the harmony between human and the nature. The economy is improving, but the nature is suffering from damages. Green open space is the right solution. This research’s objective is to determine the biophysical characteristics (soil characteristics, stand potential, slope and rainfall) of the urban forests in Samarinda. The results show the class of clay texture, acid soil pH, low organic matter and gray brown color. The urban forests in Samarinda are dominated by species of Jati (Tectona grandis), Jati Putih (Mangifera indica), Mahoni (Swietenia macrophylla), Jambu (Anacardium occidentale), Jambu Batu (Psidium guajava), Kayu Jawa (Lannea grandis), Gmelina arborea, Angsana (Pittocarpus indicus), Bitti (Vitex cofassus), Trembesi (Samania samania), Morinda citrifolia and Kapuk (Ceiba Pentandra), hilly slopes, rather steep altitude range of 16-65 mdpl and an average rainfall of 1 095.9 mm/year

Potensi rumput vetiver (Chrysopongon zizanoides L.) dan kangkung (Ipomoea aquatica Forsk.) sebagai agen fitoremediasi limbah industri kayu
Wood industry produces a large amount of waste water that contains various pollutants. These pollutants are mostly dangerous for the environment. This research work aims to analyze the ability of phytoremediation for reducing pollutants in wood industrial waste water. These experiments usee Chrysopongon zizanoides L. and Ipomoea aquatica Forsk as phytoremediation agents. The ability was evaluated from the improved quality of wood industrial wastewater and the growth rate of C. zizanioides (L.) and I. aquatica Forsk in wood industrial wastewater. Analysis was conducted by measuring the removal efficiency of pollutants in wood industrial wastewater, the correlation between the reduced pollutants concentrations in the waste water and plant growth rate. Furthermore, a mathematical model is developed to predict the potential of C. zizanioides (L.) and I. aquatica Forsk for wood industrial wastewater. The result showed that C.zizanioides L. and I aquatica Forsk were potential phytoremediation agent. The removal efficiency for C.zizanioides L. and I aquatica Forsk are respectively as follows: 66.19% and 41.18%, TSS 58.51% and 45.38%, COD 70.07% and 40.37%, Total Amonia Nitrogen (TAN) 63.70% and 66.96%, NH3 96.16% and 88.79%, and PO43- 53.90% and 38.38%. Relative Growth Rate (RGR) of C. zizanioides (0.011±0.002 g/day) is better than I. aquatica Forsk (0.007±0.001 g/day). Daily Growth Rate (DGR) of C. zizanioides (0.019±0.003 cm/day) is better than I. aquatica Forsk (0.012±0.006 cm/day). TSS, COD, NH3, NO3-, and phenol have a negative correlation to plant growth (based on wet weight and root length). The developed mathematical models can be used to predict the phytoremediation potential of C. zizanioides (L.) and I. aquatica Forsk in degrading COD, TSS, and phenols of wood industrial waste
Analisis Emisi GRK dan Konversi Energi pada Produksi Minyak Jarak (Ricinus communis L.) dengan Metode Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Castor oil (Ricinus communis L.) is a renewable, multifunction vegetable oil, used in wide range of chemical industry feedstock. Nowadays, a product derived from castor has able to replace petroleum-based chemical feedstock. In spite of its renewable characteristic, castor oil production has to meet the environmental sustainability. This study was conducted to determine numbers of input and output used, as well as, their impact to the environment in the production processes. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method was used to determine the input, output and environmental impacts of castor oil production. The result is, that the needs for a ton of castor oil are: 0.97 ha of land, 1.06 kg of seeds for plantation, 0.27 tons of fertilizer, 7.7 liters of petrol, 219.71 liters of diesel, 2.43 tons of seeds for processing purpose, and 1 187.54 liters of water. The production process itself emits 1.03 tons CO2-eq of greenhouse gas (GHG). Reduction to environmental pressure could be accomplished by replacing fossil fuel with castor cake during production to reduce 153.19 liters of diesel usage equals with 0.43 tons CO2-eq emission for a ton castor oil
