    Scratch Area Effect in Coating to Protection Current Needing in ICCP System for AISI 1045 Steel in Sea Water Environment

    Every metal always going back to its oxide form. Steel which are oxidized having lower quality than steel which are not. Oxidizing steel will going faster if it is placed in corrosive environment. Sea water is one of the environment that support the oxidizing process. Coats are using to protect the steel in sea water. But sometimes there is some failure in coating process so the coat will have scratch damage area. The objective of this experiment is to know how much current needed to protect AISI 1045 steel which have been coated with polyethylene and given scratch area with shape variations, in sea water environment. This experiments is the continuation from the past experiences which is using sacrifice anode, on the other hand, this experiences using Impressed Current Cathodic Protection. Data which are taken from this experiment is the differentiation of potential that measured with electrode reference Cu/CuSO4, and the current measured by avometer. With ICCP system, we know that the corrosion rate in rectangular-shape scratch is faster than circle-shape scratch, and the larger the area of scratch, the larger current needed to protect the coated steel

    Android App for Information of Food Additives Contained in Packaged Foods

    Today, the usage of food additives can be found in nearly every food, especially in packaged foods. Meanwhile, the majority of people are unaware of the impact of the use of food additives in the human body when consumed freely. One of the easiest ways to determine the ingredients of a packaged food,  is to read the label of product composition. If it is doubtful, then the product was not consumed. However, public knowledge about food ingredients listed in the product composition is generally relatively low. So, even if they could determine the ingredients of the packaged food products, but still do not know the impact of their use. In this research, built an Android app of Food Additives Glossary that presents information about each type of food additives. This app has a barcode scanner and decoder using ZXing library to facilitate the acquisition of data from the food additives listed in packaged foods. User reads the barcode of packaged food products using the barcode scanner. This applications will display of food additives contained therein. Furthermore, the user can select one of the food additives and the application will display some information, such as: INS code, category (safety, unhealthy, dangerous), ADI (Acceptable Daily Intake) limits, side effects and further description of the food additives

    Go East Java : A Mobile Application For Tourist Guides In East Java

    East Java is one province that has many interesting tourism place to visit, both natural and artificial tourism place. However, information about the tourism places is still less spread in the community. Similarly, information related to various tourist facilities around the place like a resort hotel and villas as well as the kind of eating places such as restaurants. Go East Java is a mobile-based application, which will guide tourists in finding the desired tourist spot. In this application, the user is given the choice of natural and artificial tourism areas. For natural menu there are several options: sea, mountains, waterfalls and caves. While on the artificial menu there are options: temple, religion, zoos and parks. After the user specifies the type, it will display a variety of tourism places in East Java, according to the selected category. Each of these sites will be presented in the form of photos, address, phone numbers and its link. In addition, this application also provides information about the various facilities around the tourism place as well as guide maps. In this case the map to the tourism places is presented by offline and online-based on GPS. This application is expected to be increasingly introducing various tourism places in East Java to both domestic and foreign travelers

    Design Development of Food & Beverage Product Packaging for SMES co in Java and West Nusa Tenggara, Economic Corridor.

    Population of Food & Beverage SME's Co in Indonesia reached 38 % of total 52 million SMEs, equivalent to 19.76 million SMEs. Indonesian Consumption reached Rp997 trillion in 2012 and its 27 % is in the form of processed foods that packed (Rp296, 19 trillion). Expenditure of industrial packaging products for SME are big, worth 5 % of whole packaging product price that equivalent to Rp13, 46 trillion. SMEs Contribution (21 % worth of 19.76 million) is still relatively considered small competitive to Indonesian market from those of medium and large industrial supply both for local and abroad (79 %). The main issue is Food & Beverage SMEs Competitiveness products relatively low, lack of promotion, weak brand, packaging design not meet good standards and food quality below safety standards. The purpose of this research is to improve the competitiveness of food and beverage SMEs Co through capacity building, took places on some "brands and packaging design center" in Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara.  Developing branding design and planogram for consumer pack and transport pack packaging through research MP3EI 2012-2014 Participatory design research methods are preceded by informal discussions with SMEs to explore the problems, goals, and defining development strategies. This method expand further more by training programs in cooperate with IPF,  East Java Industry and Trade Ministry of Commerce, Indonesian Ministry of Trade. SME Product Packaging Design Competition between universities in East Java in 2011-2013 preceded by a workshop for students to produce a design that meets the standards and can be well used by SMEs. Other programs conducted in form of producing brand and packaging design SMEs in East Java and West Nusa Tenggara. The result of this research are increasing awareness of SMEs for good brand and packaging design, increasing student capacity -proven by winning in Asian Star 2011 and 2012 competition, obtaining 11 gold medals. Formulation of Product packaging coaching role models. Formulation of Standard Operating Procedure for branding and packaging and achieving efficiency for SME food product packaging supply through production sharing.

    Thermal Performance of Apartment (High-Rise) in Surabaya with Precast Concrete for the Building Envelope

    Lack of horizontal land causes the development of vertical buildings. Residences in major cities are dominated by apartments from the low rise to the high rise types. Based on the information cited from Vivanews May 2, 2010, the number of apartments in Surabaya approximately 12 new apartment projects and has been built with a total of 5,000 units with an average of nearly 80% is sold in every apartment. Current sheath material that is widely used for apartment’s envelope is precast concrete. Precast concrete is the material that had been made at the factory in accordance with the form of the mold, then the molded concrete will be transported and installed to the building construction site. Precast concrete is chosen because it has several advantages when compared to conventional concrete structural system, including the efficiency of processing time, energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly. Given these statements, the researcher needs to know the thermal performance of apartment buildings (high-rise) in Surabaya with precast concrete building envelope. Expected to know the configuration of precast concrete materials in the building envelope, the researcher can construct an apartment building design proposals that meet the criteria of thermal comfort in tropical regions. This study aims to identify and explain the thermal performance of the precast concrete configuration in apartment buildings (high-rise) in Surabaya for the buiding envelope. The method that is used for this research is an experimental method to study the object with modeling strategies by Archipak for the simulation. The results shows that thermal performance of precast concrete pretty well applied to the apartment with thermal properties that support the value of the thermal performance of precast

    Chemical Bonds Visualization using Particle Effect and Augmented Reality

    Augmented Reality (AR) is a research area that allow to overlay multimedia contents such as text and visual information onto real world through camera views. AR can be used to as an educational assistance to help student acquire a deep conceptual understanding and spatial intuition. The course material can be enriched by viewing multimedia content, as well as in tabletop AR environment. We present this paper an AR system for teaching chemical problem solving especialy chemical bonds to highschool students.  Our system is built based on inexpensive webcams and open-source library. Chemical bonds are visualize through marker. By combine different markers, student can get different result and visualization.  A survey was conducted after experience the AR chemical bonds, show great acceptance of system and visualization

    Structural Damage Detection of A Steel-Truss Railway Bridge Using its Dynamic Characteristics

    Many steel truss rail bridges in Indonesia were built decades ago. To assure that bridge structure is in-service conditions, periodic monitoring is required, thus structural health of the bridge can be assessed and sudden collapse of the structure can be avoided. In health monitoring of structure, structural damage detection methods are frequently required so that damaged/weak element of the structure can be identified and technique for repairing it can be determined. In this paper, structural damage detection method of steel truss bridge is discussed. The method applied in this study used vibration characteristics of the structure for detecting structural damages occurred in the structure. The method was utilized to identify simulated damages occurred in a steel-truss railway bridge located in Porong East Java. The bridge has span of 30 meters and it was built during the era of Dutch colonization. The structure was modeled numerically utilizing CSI Bridge v15 computer software for facilitating in obtaining its dynamic characteristics. Results of this study showed that the method could identify precisely the existence of damage took place in the structure.

    Vulnerability Assessment of Reinforced Concrete Building Subjected to Seismic Loads Using Pushover Analysis

    Buildings should be designed to withstand an earthquake based on earthquake planning standard. However, the references used in the regulation could not show building performance to the actual earthquake directly. Therefore, it required an assessment of the existing buildings, in order to evaluate their vulnerability (structural performance level).This study discussed the vulnerability assessment of reinforced concrete buildings from the analysis of the relationship between base shear and displacement, and any failure that occurred.The first step of the evaluation was analyzed the seismic loads with Static Nonlinear (Pushover) Analysis using SAP2000 software. The pushover analysis results showed the level of damage to assessthe building damages. This research was based on SNI 03-1726-2002, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 273/356, FEMA 440, and the Applied Technology Council (ATC)-40. Displacement values obtained from Pushover Analysis compared with the field studies. From the pushover analysis, the results obtained the capacity curve showing the relationships between the base shearsand the displacements, reviewed at each elastic conditions, ultimate, plastic and collapse. The numerical results turned out to be closed to the performance level of the structure in the field. Thus the analysis can be used as a reference on an assessment level of performance and behavior of the existing structure as well as the vulnerability of the structure

    Location Time of Power Quality Disturbances and Noise Using Morphology Gradient and Skeletonization in 3D

    In power system, there are some disturbances such as, voltage dip, momentary interruption, voltage swell, or oscillatory transients that may result in mal-function or failure in operation of some devices. Knowing the location where the disturbances occur in the system is an essential part in selecting the appropriate method on improving power quality issues in order to get effective and efficient results. One of methods in locating power quality disturbances is using Mathematical Morphology (MM). In this paper, signals with disturbances were filtered using morphology gradient. Top-hat transform is applied for the filtered signal using flat structuring element. The simulation results show that the location of disturbances can be detected accurately. Skeletonization is used to identify the location time of the noises in the system. By plotting the results in 3D, it makes easier to identify the location of disturbances with or without noises from their different color and shape as pattern recognition

    Agro-industrial Development in Lamongan District, East Java, Indonesia

    Lamongan District has considerable potential in the agricultural sector. However, the agricultural sector has not been able to generate added value in the regional development of Lamongan Regency. The high GDP of agriculture sector is not matched with the high GDP of industrial sector. This proves that the results of the agricultural sector has not been used optimally by the industrial sector. To increase the value added of industrial sectors, it would require agro-industrial development based on predominant crops in Lamongan District. The potential area based on agricultural situation and the current status of agro-industrial development is required to provide the strategy of agro-industrial development.  The study of current situation of agriculture sector was conducted with three analysis namely agriculture efficiency analysis, location quotient analysis, and shift share analysis. Whereas, the study of current status of agro-industrial development was conducted with descriptive analysis. Furthermore, identification of potential areas was based on the classification of the area using the quartile method which distinguishes the area (sub-district) into four classes namely very low potential, low potential, medium potential and high potential. After identifying the level of agricultural potential, the current level of agro-industrial development was studied based on selected indicators. Following two sets of analyses, the potential sub-districts have been identified for intensification of agro-industrial development relating to predominant crops. In the study, few sub-districts such as Brondong, Deket and Glagah have high potential for agro-industrial development
