This paper involves a discourse about design based research and the research itself. To capture the goals, the issues of this paper are how to re-design the housing surrounding the bridge which built for tourism reason ecologically. In order to improve the quality of the area surrounding the bridge and due to support the tourism and human life, this study would like to investigate the issues about the improvement of settlements quality related to their impact of post construction of the bridge. The study focused on the households’ requirements for functionality of houses especially to support tourism and business activities at home. Although several studies on coastal housing problems have been conducted widely, investigation on sustainability of the building is still limited (Kobayashi, 2000; Marfa’i, M.A, 2008). In term of method, this study was design as an explorative, descriptive, ex-poste and evaluation study. By using the in- depth interviews method, the idea, hope, expectation of inhabitants was gained. 30 respondents were taken from 3 local sub district area. The results showed that the households’ needs can be observed through their activities. Households’ activities determine their requirements for the houses design. The kind of activities also influence the houses design and it’s attributes (e.g size, the type of space). By comparing the attributes of the houses and households’ requirements, the design is determined. In which kinds of tourism activities are included in their daily activities

TransJakarta since 2004 was expected as the backbone of the public transportation in Jakarta as well as TransMilenio in Bogota. However, the role of TransJakarta only approximately 1, 95% of the overall number of trips has reached 19 million/day. The analysis technique on this paper is descriptive analysis. TransJakarta operational perceived is still not effective, so that the necessary efforts to increase modal share sourced from BRT management best practice in other countries. Efforts could be made to increase modal share, among others, the elimination of thousands of parking and replaced by pedestrian friendly also develop a separate bike lane along 303 km in Bogota (Colombia). TransJakarta operational is still considered less in some aspects that are: total of fTransJakarta fleet, total of feeder route, Transjakarta speed and headway still need improved, overtaking lanes are built along the TransJakarta route, Integration with all public transport is absolutely necessary, integration with pedestrians and bicycle users TransJakarta ticket fares should be integrated with feeder and other public transportation such as KRL, city buses and paratransit and using smartcards. In terms of restrictions on the use of private vehicles can be done in the following ways implement a bike-sharing program, implement program of not using motor vehicles during weekdays for 1 day in a week, providing park and ride, implement fuel restriction program for gasoline purchases, implement car sharing program. If the operational performance of TransJakarta has been improved and restrictions on the use of private motor vehicles are implemented, it is expected that the modal split of road users in Jakarta can be expected to rise to be more ideal. In some other parts of the world some experts say ideal conditions of split capital between public transport and private vehicles can reach 65%: 35%. Hopefully the city of Jakarta can achieve this

    Get PDF
Indonesia has high a demand level of wheat flour for both the industrial and households sectors, such as bread industry. Wheat flour is the dominant composition of bread, however it is the source of gluten which may promote celiac disease (CD). The lifetime obedience to the gluten-free diet is the only treatment for this disease. The finding of a new material in order to obtain gluten-free product is an important topic. Furthermore, Indonesia is a tropical region that is rich in natural resources, such as cassava (Manihot esculenta) and Sorghum (Sorghum-bicolor (L) Moech). Fermentation was used to improve nutritional content of sorghum flour and cassava flour, resulting modified cassava flour (mocaf) and modified sorghum flour (mosof), respectively. A strategy for utilization of cassava in production of mocaf was demonstrated. Mocaf flour can be produced by fermentation use L. plantarum, S. cereviseae, and R. oryzae that are cheap and non pathogenic to increase the levels of protein and decrease the levels of cyanide acid in the mocaf flour. This work has also shown that lactid acid is produced as by-product during the fermentation

The low-cost apartment development program is one of the reliable solutions to reduce housing backlog in East Java Province  due to land scarcity and high price of land. There are some supporting regulations concerning low-cost apartment management and implementation. But in some aspects, the regulation is not applicable.  The objectives of this research are to compare the low-cost apartment regulation and real implementation in Sidoarjo and to generate improvement strategies. The regulation and technical standard variables were obtained from literature review studies. The comparison parameters to better understand the low-cost apartment implementation were then observed to purposive sampling respondents from management team and 60 random sampling respondents from inhabitants. These unconformity variables were then identified and analyzed using descriptive statistic.  The result shows that some problems between regulation and real implementation are associated with rental price, inhabitant segmentation, maintenance program. Some strategies for the better implementation according to the inhabitant’s need and regulation are determine segmentation and limitation in rental period,  scheduling the operation and maintenance periodically and list it in the planned cash flow, consider to create spesific institution to operate the low-cost apartment in order to overcome the finance system constraint and adjust more proper rental price.

Factors of Design Errors in Construction Project (A Review)

    Get PDF
Design is an important step in construction project. Errors in design cause failure in construction stage as well as the project development. Misunderstandings of design concept between parties lead to design errors that able to decrease the quality of construction works, and also cause cost overruns and project delays. Design errors also contribute to engineering failures, which can result in accidents and loss of life. Preventive actions in reducing the errors are necessary. In accordance with these issues, this research is conducted with main purpose to identify the causal factors of design error. Review to previous studies with main topic of design error was taken in order to identify the causal factors. The factors were then validated in an oil and gas industry through observation in design process and also interview to parties whom have experiences in design process. Based from research, it is found that there are 5 main causal factors. The factors are man, method, material, machine, and environment. There are also several factors that are less in accordance with the conditions in the field such as cognitive dissonance, competitive tendering, and adversarial attitudes. By knowing the cause of the design error, can be done to prevent the effort of guarantee project sustainability

Assessment of pavement condition is functionally the most important aspect in determining road maintenance and repair activities, so that the financing can be monitored properly. There are two methods in handling the road assessment, ie visually and using tools. Visual assessment can use PASER and PCI. While IRI is a road assessment using Roadroid (Android Smartphone App) tool, where the tool will be used as national reference to get IRI value, because the cost is cheaper and effective. Therefore there needs to be a correlation between the three methods. Correlation in this research is divided into three, namely the correlation of PASER value with PCI, PASER with IRI, and PCI with IRI. The research location used as research object is South Ring Road Sragen. The result of the research was obtained, road assessment using PASER method with PCI resulted correlation value of pearson 0,51. Assessment of PASER with IRI has a correlation value of pearson -0,14. While the value of PCI with IRI yield correlation value pearson -0,23. The value of the correlation coefficient between PASER and PCI has the highest value, since it has a nearly equal assessment approach by measuring the damage visually. The correlation of PCI with IRI is higher than PASER with IRI, thus proving that PCI assessment is more recommended because it can accommodate all types of road damage

    Get PDF
The market share of freight transport which is dominated by road transport and accompanied by unbalanced of infrastructure’s growth and freight demand has created various negative impacts on existing transportation system. The shift of freight transport from road to rail and sea is expected to reduce those impacts. Research on the behavior of freight mode choice and the extent to which the user is willing to trade off the attribute change needs to be done so that the amount of modal shift will be known. The main objective of the study was to produce a model of mode choice based on preference surveys among forwarders, as well as to provide inputs for policy improvement and or improvement of freight transportation services. One of the surveys to be conducted is the revealed preference (RP) survey. The important stage before the RP survey is to conduct a preliminary survey. This stage aims to determine the important trends related to the choice of modes by the forwarder and test the response rate of respondents. The survey is also useful for assessing the credibility of the data instrument, identifying potential errors in the data instrument, and determining non-conformities in survey management before the actual survey. Data collection was done by sending questionnaires. The structure of the questionnaire consists of questions about characteristics of : shipment, travel, and modes. The results of survey showed relatively low response rate because it was only 8 respondents who were willing to answer the questionnaire. This indicates that the questionnaire needs to be combined with other methods, such as: face to face interviews and or focus groups. The results of the preliminary survey show that the main factors for the choice of existing modes are: shipment costs, loss/damage, and time travel. The implementation of the next stage survey should consider that each company has more than one shipping commodity so it is necessary to group questions and analysis based on each commodity

In supporting heritage tourism, emotional and psychological reactions between people and the places are required until the sites are no longer a mere identity of the geographical formation. The positive perception of people indicates satisfaction that is strongly influenced by the image of an urban area. The image defines the character of the place (spirit of place). In shaping the image of place, place identity takes a significant role and distinctiveness is one aspect of it that contributes in. This research aims to investigate the distinctiveness aspect and its influences in defining place identity of urban heritage area by using variable, i.e. landmark, uniqueness, particular character, and different perception. It focuses on the historical corridor of Medan City, Indonesia, chosen due to its significant role in the establishment of Medan City in past and the existence of historic buildings. This research combined qualitative and quantitative method through field observation and nine in-depth interviews as well as 360 questionnaires distribution, respectively to examine the perception of residents and visitors. This research contributes in defining place identity that can be used as evaluation and indicator for future planning. It will benefit in securing place identity towards support in urban heritage tourism that improves the quality of life. The result indicates that the existence of heritage buildings as landmark allows someone to have a unique affiliation to the research area. However, the diversity of interesting cultural activity, local product as well public facilities requires more improvement
