    Get PDF
Balai Padang Adat is one of the traditional building in tropical area. The characteristic of this building is large, long and deep dimention but it has limited area of the openings. Field meassurement for 3 days and 3 times (09.00, 12.00, 15.00) is used to identify factors that affect daylighting performance. This research found that daylighting performance was in poor quality. The outdoor illumination is very high which reached 100.000 lux caused by latitude, altitude and cloud cover. The latitude is 2o in the south from the equator’s line and the altitude is 450 meters above sea level which close from the sun. The cloud cover is minimum lower than 40%. The indoor illumination can reach 1 lux as the lowest level during the day caused by obstruction, overhang, shape and space of the building, material reflectance, area and position of the openings. There is a building in the west and east and a vegetation in the south as an obstruction. This building has a large dimention with double layer room, but it has minimum material reflectance of the wall and floor. This building has a minimum area of the openings, high position of the openings near the overhangs and also long dimention of the overhang. Meassurement was done in Laras-Pematang room as a living room and Bilik room as a bedroom and kitchen. Overall, daylighting performance of this building can not meet standart activity such as illumination value, daylighting factors and daylighting distribution from morning to the evening

The Assessment of Berth Occupancy Ratio (BOR) to Achieve Required Standardised Level and Optimum Throughput: A Case of Oil and Gas Terminal in Kalimantan

    Get PDF
In many cases of berth occupancy (BOR) level in the port can be one of the factors considering whether the services of port is busy or not. Later, the factors are evaluated including operational, technical or any other thing that makes this parameter to rise and affect the performance of the services of a port . In this study, the BOR assessment is applied by modeling the existing operation of an oil gas and terminal in Kalimantan using ARENA to fulfill fuel oil (BBM) and gas in the eastern part of Indonesia. The model considers various factors as the terminal service capacity and the input of terminal traffic such as increased cargo balance from time to time including ships and cargo traffic. To support the implementation of the terminal acceleration program, the analysis of utility usage dock and equipment loading - unloading (marine loading arms) is an essential item for giving arguments plans facility expansion due to the increasing traffic of ships and the cargo services through a strategic plan providing such as new facilities/equipments and other new managemet arrangement. As a result, the study may provide scenarios as options for the terminal operator to implement in achieving both the optimised throughput and acceptable BOR level by considering operational, technical, commercial and management strategie

Removal Of Color and Chemical Oxygen Demand From Textile Wastewater Using Advanced Oxydation Process (AOPs)

    Get PDF
Large quantities of dyes used in the textile industry are lost to the effluents and flows into surface water during the manufacturing and processing operations. Many methods have been used such as biological, physical and chemical treatment of dye containing wastewater. Among these treatment technique, activated sludge, flocculation, and adsorption are the most commonly applied methods in Indonesia. Dyes are usually resistant to aerobic degradation, for example decolorization of azo dyes has been found to be less effective solely using this treatment. On the other hand, flocculation and adsorption methods are not destructive, mainly just concentrate and separate the pollutants phases. This research paper investigates the removal of color and chemical oxygen demand/COD from textile wastewater using advanced oxydation process either by ozone-UV and zinc oxide photocatalyst. Effects of various variables on decolorization and COD removal process have been investigated. The results showed that ozone/UV could achived a complete decolorization (100% removal) when 40 mg/l dye initial concentration was treated with 170.43 ppm/min ozonation for 120 min of incubation period. The same color removal efficiency also achieved when 20 mg/l dye initial concentration treated in the photocatalytic reactor contained 0.71 mg/cm2 of ZnO nanoparticle after 135 min of incubation period. COD removal efficiency for ozone/UV and ZnO photocatalytic treatment was 60% and 77%, respectively

Perencanaan Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah Domestik di Kecamatan Rungkut, Kota Surabaya

    Get PDF

Behavioral Finance as An Alternative Concept in Investor-Related Risk for Residential Projects : A Literature Review

    Get PDF
Stakeholder  is a very important factor for project success. As part of external and the most influential project stakeholder, investor as a market agent, with embedded  needs, preferences and behavior might become critical project risks and should be identified and managed properly as a key project objective. This paper investigates previous studies to examine and to understand the mechanisms of investor’s economic behavior as the risk factor and its impact for the development of residential project. Traditional financial theory in the past decades generally emphasizes the rational model in investor’s decision-making without involving emotional aspect of behavior. Recently there are many scientists proposed  the theory of behavioral finance which combines insight from psychology and sociology into finance and investment with the market fundamental perspective. Based on the review, we conclude that behavioral finance can be considered as an alternative concept in assessing residential project risk especially in economic volatility

Modelling of Tropospheric Ozone Concentration in Urban Environment

    Get PDF
Tropospheric ozone is harmful to human health and plants. It is resulted from photochemical processes involving NOx and VOCs from reactions of motor vehicle emissions and solar radiation in polluted urban environment. Historical data in Jakarta indicated that ozone concentrations often exceeded ambient standard threshold.  To minimize its impact to human health it is important to predict its concentration. This paper reports the use of multivariate statistical method to predict ozone concentration, using precursor concentration and meteorological parameters.  CH4, CO, NMHC, NO, NO2, THCdata concentration, wind direction and speed, temperature, solar radiation and relative humidity during 2011 - 2012 were used to build the model. Multiple linear regressions were applied to predict ozone concentration at Thamrin Station, Jakarta. These data were used as predictors at time (t) to estimate the ozone concentration at time (t +1). Meteorological conditions were found to strongly affect the concentration of ozone. The strongest relationship was found between ozone and temperature (0.513, p = 0.000). Weaker but significant positive correlations were found for  solar radiation and NO2 (r = 0.242, p= 0.000),. NMHC and NO correlation (r= 0.353, p= 0.000).  Both NO and NMHC are freshly emitted from exhaust gas.  Correlations between humidity, wind speed and direction were negative. Methana, NMHC, were negatively correlated with ozone due to their roles for producing NO2 as the main precursor, while NO was for its scavenging reaction with O3. Based on Adjusted R2 value, all predictors could explain variation in ozone concentration of approximately 46.32%. These findings will be useful as input in urban transportation planning and management in cities with tropical climate like Indonesia, as all precursors are emitted from vehicle combustion

Consolidation Coefficient in Horizontal Direction (Ch) Determined from Field Settlement Data By Using Terzaghi, Asaoka, and Finite Element Methods

    Get PDF
In order to predict the consolidation period in the field, consolidation coefficient in vertical direction (Cv) parameter is needed. When vertical drains installed in the compressible layer in order to shortened the consolidation period, it needs consolidation coefficient in horizontal direction (Ch). This Ch parameter has to be determined from the field settlement that usually obtained from the trial embankment.  However, it is very expensive to carry out the trial embankment; therefore, it is usually assumed to be 2 till 5xCv. In this paper, the assumption of the Ch value will be proven by using field settlement data taken from the trial embankment at the reclamation area for container yard at Kuala Tanjung, Medan, By choosing the Ch value, the compression vs time curves were predicted by adopting the Terzaghi, Asaoka, and Finite Element methods. Afterwards, these predicted settlement curves were plotted with the field settlement curves; from this plotting, it could be figured out the predicted curves which has Ch value the same with the field Ch value. The results show that from three methods adopted in this study, only the Terzaghi and the Asaoka methods give satisfactory results in settlement prediction. Consequently, only the Terzaghi and Asaoka methods are adopted to determine the Ch value. The Ch value obtained is about the same, that is 3Cv until 5Cv. When that Ch value used back to predict the settlement, the Asaoka method gives better result than the Terzaghi method
