    Crematorium and Vertical Burial in Surabaya as Solution for Water Absorption in Urban Density Problem

    Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia, which has many problems. Urban density is a major issue which has problems in it, starting from the population density up to the limitations of burial grounds that exist today. Design problem which arises is uniting the facility of funeral homes, crematoriums, and tombs in one area to reduce the mobilization on the road resulting in traffic density. Urban density has resulted in a couple of problems ranging from population density to scarcity of lands. Crematorium and vertical burial therefore become a crucial part of a city. While there has been less open green spaces, crematorium and vertical burial are expected not to reduce the open green spaces. Data scape as a design method is used to obtain design criteria for preliminary design. To obtain a form of structure, combination with the multiple addition geometry method is attempted. A design obtained by making vertical buriel footprint design that is able to provide sufficient absorption area by taking into account the percentage of urban open green space.     Kajian Lokasi Halte Dan Jam Operasi Angkutan Kota Malang Berdasarkan SPM 2015 (Studi Kasus : Trayek LDH, AH, DAN ADL)

    Banyaknya masyarakat yang menggunakan kendaraan pribadi dibandingkan kendaraan umum menyebabkan berbagai masalah salah satunya kemacetan. Hal tersebut disebabkan oleh kinerja pelayanan angkutan umum yang kurang memuaskan. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kinerja pelayanan berdasarkan Standar Pelayanan Minimal (SPM)  2015 dengan Metode Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) serta kinerja operasi angkutan kota di Kota Malang dan solusinya mengenai kinerja pelayanan dari angkutan kota terkait penempatan halte dan jam operasi di Kota Malang.Pada kajian ini didapatkan jumlah sampel sebesar 68 responden untuk setiap trayek dengan tingkat keandalan 90% (galat 10%). Terdapat 2 metode survei yang digunakan, yaitu metode survei statis dan survei dinamis. Metode yang digunakan yaitu Importance Performance Analysis (IPA), Kinerja Operasi, dan Multikriteria.Dari hasil analisis IPA diperoleh 13 atribut yang dianggap penting namun kinerjanya masih kurang sehingga menjadi prioritas utama yang mempengaruhi kepuasaan responden. Tiga atribut diantaranya  kapasitas daya angkut yang berlebihan,  ketepatan waktu perjalanan, ketersediaan halte. Untuk analisis kinerja operasional didapatkan dari faktor muat ketiga trayek masih berada dibawah standar 70% sehingga perlu adanya peningkatan kinerja. Untuk waktu antara berkisar 2-5 menit pada waktu puncak, waktu tidak puncak belum mencapai standar  yaitu 5-10 menit.  Sedangkan  kinerja pelayanan mengenai penempatan titik lokasi halte diperoleh 72 titik dengan 10 titik lokasi yang telah memiliki halte, untuk itu diperlukan peraturan dan meningkatkan  prasarana halte. Sedangkan hasil analisis jam operasi didapatkan jumlah armada yang beroperasi tidak sesuai dengan SK Dirjen sehingga perlu adanya penyesuaian jumlah armada

    research in the field of biomechanics related to orthopedic implants is rapidly growing in the world, especially for fixation of fractured bone. Fixation is a surgery to locate and attach a plate pressed by screws at the fractured bone. Most of the fracture bones sited in femur. This research focuses on modeling and simulation of plate and screw made of SS316L material for the fixation of the fractured femur using finite element method (FEM). SS316L is a material with good biocompatibility, cheap, and ductile enough. Modeling and simulation done using ANSYS 15.0 software. Simulation results are stress, strain, and total deformation. It is obtained that optimum diameter of screw is 4.5 mm with respect to minimum value of von Mises stress and deformation

    Probabilistic Model For Predicting Construction Worker Accident Based On Bayesian Belief Networks

    The construction industry has a very important role to the growth of a country. The unique characteristics and dynamic nature of the construction industry lead to a dangerous condition and prone to accidents. The death rate due to accidents in the construction industry in 2015 increased by 4% compared to 2014. The number of occupational accidents in Indonesia from year to year experienced a trend of an increase of 5%. Unsafe behavior of workers was the main cause of 88% of accidents in the construction site, 10% due to unsafe conditions, and 2% due to the unavoidable things. In addition, the complexity of construction equipment and unsafe environment significantly determined the type of accident and severity of injuries. This study aims to propose the probability model to predict the construction worker accidents in construction projects. To improve the accuracy of the assessment of workplace accidents, Bayesian Belief Networks used as a study analysis to represent the relationship among unsafe factors such as unsafe behavior factors, unsafe environment and unsafe equipment that lead to accidents. The data was collected through project site survey, questionnaire, and interview to OSH Managers in ten construction projects. The validation is done by applying the model on four case of a high rise building. This finding shows both the probability and accurate prediction of work accidents with APE mean is 4,564 that is useful to assist the practitioners and all stakeholders especially those directly involved in construction industry and to get some recommendations steps and preventive actions in order to minimize the occurrence of fatal work accidents and improve occupational safety and health (OSH) as well as to contribute knowledge about the factors that influence the occurrence of accidents

    Glass Stiffness Contribution of Flat and Curved Cable-net Supported Glass Façade Systems

    Glass used in building facade presents an aesthetic feature as well as contributes to the structural stiffness of the whole structural system of the building. In this research, the contribution of glass on the stiffness of the cable-net supported glass facade systems was investigated via experiments. Two generic configurations of cable-net system were considered, namely flat and curved cable-net system, both with and without glass panes. Each system was subjected to static load. The results indicated that the introduction of certain level of curvature to the cable net structure has increased the stiffness of the cable net structure by 11.5%. The glass panes made significant contributions to the stiffness of the whole structural system. The glass stiffness contribution for flat cable-net system was high at the early stage of loading (approximately 40%) but reduced when the load was increased. However, the glass stiffness contribution for curved cable-net increased gradually as the load was increased. For both configurations, the glass stiffness contribution remained steady at about 18% of the whole structural stiffness as the cables in the cable-net stiffened up to the maximum load.. Based on the static tests carried out, the pre-stress force in the cables in the cable-net systems can possibly be reduced should the glass be considered in the analysis design of cable-net structure. Moreover, the curved cable-net could be designed to have lower pre-stress force in cables compared to that of flat cable-net to meet the deflection criterion of the cable-net structure

    A comparative study on spatial configuration of human settlements in Riparian Area (Case studies : Old Kampoong and Colonial Settlements in Palembang

    Palembang is the city which is divided by Musi River. Palembang is also one of the oldest city in Indonesia. Many old settlements were built in riparian area. This geographic condition of Palembang becomes background of this research. The research questions are: what is the discrepancy between Kampoong and Colonial Settlements in spatial configuration? Does the Musi River have influence in spatial configuration on that case? This research using the space syntax analysis with the following three steps of analysis: convex map analysis, axial map analysis and visibility graph analysis. For case studies, this research names two different settlements: old Kampoong (3-4 Ulu and 10 Ulu) and Colonial settlements (Komperta Plaju and Komperta Bagus Kuning) and we use Kampung Kapitan (7 Ulu) for the comparation. As the result of this research shows that between Kampoong and Colonial Settlements have some discrepancies in spatial configuration. In Kampoong, they have a small ‘void space’, many streets between houses and the organic patterns. In Colonial settlements, the spatial configuration is planned well with grid pattern. In context influences of Musi River to the settlements, only Bagus Kuning complex that has a closed relationship with rivers because those settlements have a connection between inner ‘void space’ with riparian ‘void space’

    Microstructure and Adhesion Properties Post-Annealed Metallic Coating of Fecrbmnsi on Tube and Internal Structure Coal-Fired Boiler

    Iron-chrome based metallic coating is generally used to increase the life-time tube and internal structure of coal-fired boiler. The most common method used is thermal spray coating. The advantages of this method are simple in application, repair, and low cost. The post-heat treatment coating on metallic coating applied by the thermal spray method can affect to adhesion properties, the number of porosity and microstructure of coating material. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of post-annealing on the metallic coating FeCrBMnSi applied by Twin Wire Arc-Spraying (TWAS) method on microstructure and adhesion properties which is applied on tube and internal structure of coal-fired boiler. Post-annealing was  performed after coating application in vacuum furnace with variety of temperature at 500oC, 600oC and 700o and holding time about 3 hours. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) were used to analyze the morphology of microstructure, the uniformity of the deposit layer, and the percentage of  porosity. X- Ray Diffraction (XRD) was used  to determine phase formation and composition phase. Then, Pull Off Test was performed for adhesion test that is referred to ASTM D4541. The results shows that increasing post-annealed temperature cause microstructure of coating more crystalline,  percentage of porosity decreased from 3% As-sprayed to 1,4% at 700oC post-annealing temperature and it has an effect on the adhesion properties of coating which increase up to 25%

    Water Quality Assessment Along Lower Hlaing River

    In this study, water quality of Hlaing River was monitored along the downstream reach during low flow periods and water samples were collected once a week during January and February. Stations for sample collection were fixed after site survey. There are altogether 14 stations to analyse water quality of the study river reach. The monitoring program includes collection of samples from seven locations along the river into which seven streams discharge. These samples were analysed for a number of water quality parameters such as temperature, total dissolve solid,  total suspended solid, Conductivity, Salinity, pH, BOD, COD and Arsenic. The results of water quality parameters showed significant variation in water quality of the river and the water quality monitoring data were compared to the water quality standards for different uses. It is found that water quality of Hlaing River deteriorates and doesn’t meet the requirements for conserving of living environment due to the pollution from the tributary streams which received wastewater from adjacent industrial zones and newly Satellite town

    Adaptation | A Reflection on Contemporary Chinese Architecture (In four case-studies)

    Reflecting upon a decade of engaging with, researching, writing, curating and discussing critical and contemporary Chinese architectural developments (profession and projects), the author presents ‘adaptation’ as a modus operandus for Chinese architects to bypass both rapid cultural changes as well as a volatile and demanding building construction climate.  Seeking to understand the underlying concepts, methods and motives behind selected projects of four distinct contemporary practices (Amateur Architecture Studio, Atelier Chen Haoru, ZAO/standardarchitecture, Zhao Yang studio) the author discusses how these adapt to progress. Besides, the aforementioned practices encompass in China three distinct generations of architects, all practicing, to a large extent, in a similar spatial, social and economical environment. Focusing on the passage of time and the progress of the profession, rather than pointing out a figure or structure frozen in time, and through case-studies linked to the authors’ exhibition ‘ADAPTATION – architecture and change in China’ (Venice Architecture Biennale 2014), the paper seeks to discuss how architects effectively adapt and transform their thinking, practice and design in relation to ongoing demands and insights. Relating these to professional discourse, use of local materials and knowledge, to the volatility of clients, governments and markets, these alternative practices (alternative to the dominance of design institutes, to generic solutions and to Western, modernist, theories and practice) aspire to keep control over the design process. Across the four discussed practices, similarities in approach, materiality, methodology, educational and environmental concerns are contrasted with differences in architect-client relation, public appreciation, public and personal influence, laws, academic discourse. Through the lens of understanding how architects transform their modus operandi, tentatively the concept of ‘in(ter)depedent practices and projects’ (or mutual reliance between different generations of independent architects) can be explored

    Managing Revitalization to Conserve Cultural Heritage Kampong in Kauman Surakarta

    Kelurahan Kauman is one of the cultural heritage kampong in Surakarta, formerly inhabited by abdi dalem ulama Keraton and batik entrepreneurs. Kauman developed when Pakubuwono III built the Great Mosque in 1757, the kampong then developed into a batik industrial center in the early 1800s, shown by the number of luxury homes built by batik entrepreneurs that year. But in 1939 to 1970 batik companies went bankrupt; Therefore, the ancient houses and buildings were damaged and became a slum neighborhood. Revitalization of the area has been done since 2006, the economy rose again but the environmental conditions have not been optimal. The purpose of this study is to manage the revitalization program that has been done to find a better settlement strategy. The research was conducted by qualitative rationalistic approach. Data were collected through literature studies, interviews and field surveys. The sample selection is purposive, the sample being studied is the impact of revitalization on physical and non-physical environment and community activities of Kauman.
