    No full text
For this issue of MMD, the editorial committee has decided to give a voice to those who provide institutional recognition to essential yet often overlooked figures in the cultural and museum landscape. In this perspective, My Exhibition plays a central role: the platform collects and organizes data, practices, and key actors of exhibition design in Italy. It documents the staging of exhibition spaces and temporary architectures, offering a multidisciplinary outlook that encompasses installations, scenography, materials, educational tools, technological devices, and multimedia applications. Through this work of documentation, My Exhibition contributes to building a shared memory of exhibition practices and to acknowledging the professionals who, working behind the scenes, play a decisive role in shaping contemporary museum practices.

The preservation of built heritage represents a cultural and scientific challenge of great significance, particularly as many historical monuments in Morocco have suffered extensive deterioration. Given that the renovation of facade and interior plasters is among the most common tasks in restoration projects, it is crucial to analyze the composition of stones and plasters to ensure the compatibility of materials and their effective interaction with the substrate. In this context, our study focuses on characterizing the stone and plaster from the enclosure of the Kutubiyya Mosque in Marrakech, as well as the materials used in its restoration. To achieve this, we applied mineralogical, chemical, and petrographic characterization methods, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and petrographic analysis. The masonry stone of the Kutubiyya Mosque has been identified as a marly limestone with properties characteristic of hard rocks. The primary exterior plaster is composed of lime and silty sand, with a proportion of gypsum added to accelerate the setting process. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the presence of crystalline phases in the original masonry stone, such as calcite, clays, quartz, and dolomite. Additionally, X-ray fluorescence analysis identified the major chemical elements in the plaster. These findings reveal notable differences in the chemical composition of the original and restoration materials, highlighting their influence on the quality and durability of the restoration efforts at the Kutubiyya Mosque.&nbsp

Performance of Indian Batsmen in the 2023 World Cup Squad - A Survival Analysis Approach

    No full text
The game of cricket is enjoyed by millions of fans across the Globe. India is perusing the game like  anything. Though, at present, many local tournaments like IPL were conducted in India, the ability of the batsmen and their patterns of scoring runswere reflected by the amount of runs they score in the international ODI’s played between Countries. The runs scored by batsmen with information on whether they are “batting-first” or “chasing” throws more light on the patterns of runs-scoring. Also, the order in which the batsmen bat is also taken into consideration in this study. Further, the performance of batsmen varies across different teams of the game. More uncertainty exists in the run-scoring pattern. All these make it difficult for predicting the runs scored by a batsman. Survival analysis comes handy in predicting the probabilities of such events. The study, in this perspective, considers nine batsmen selected from the one-day Indian world cup squad 2023. The information of these batsmen, particularly the runs scored by them against different countries were used to find the probabilities of their run-scoring pattern. The study uses Kaplan-Meier’s product limit estimator, Cox Proportional Hazard model and Accelerated Failure Time Parametric model for analysing the patterns. Log-rank test is used for comparing survival distributions. Also, the study compares the relative performance of selected batsmen. Data, updated as on 4th September 2023, were used for each of the batsman under consideration. The analysis has been carried out using R program

The manuscripts presented in this contribution, Ms. lat. 362 and Ms. lat. 16905, preserved in the Bibliothèque nationale de France, have so far been overlooked by art historians. The stylistic analysis of the illustrative and decorative apparatus of these manuscripts, conducted in this study, makes it possible to attribute them to the anonymous illuminator called Master of the Avignon Decretum (from the most relevant manuscript illuminated by him, Avignon, Bibliothèque Municipale, Ms. 659). This illuminator, trained most probably in Toulouse and active between 1320 and 1350, most likely worked for the Dominicans of the city.I manoscritti presentati in questo contributo, ms. lat. 362 e ms. lat.

This paper explores the intricate connections between manuscript illumination in the late 10th and early 11th centuries, focusing on the Benedictine monastery on Reichenau Island and the ‘Master of the Registrum Gregorii’ from Trier. It highlights key works like the Codex Egberti and the Egbert Psalter, examining the collaborative efforts between the Trier and Reichenau scriptoria under Archbishop Egbert of Trier’s patronage. Despite geographical distances, these manuscripts show stylistic and iconographic ties, suggesting a dynamic exchange of artists and ideas. The study also addresses scholarly debates about their origins and calls for further research into their collaborative production.

    No full text
A Caribbean communist, historian of the black and Pan-Africanist movements, C.L.R. James was a pioneer of cultural studies, often forgotten yet important for his influence on the black and anticolonial movement and workers’ struggles from the late 1930s to the 1960s. The essay presents a critical reading of American Civilization that James wrote between 1949 and 1950 and published four years after his death in 1989. Although the manuscript was never completed, its historical meaning remains intact for its pervasive vision of the United States and its way of translating Marxian thought into the US culture and politics. While historiography has taken the manuscript into account for its contribution to cultural studies, the essay considers it as his “political manifesto” for the United States. By placing James in the intellectual context that marked his US moment (1938-1953), the essay reconstructs his critique of sociological and managerial literature, particularly Elton Mayo and Peter Drucker, and against the rise of a “counter-revolutionary philosophy,” especially Richard Weaver. American Civilization brought to light a continuous workers’ struggle in its potential connection with blacks and women’s antagonisms.

Forms of nitrogen in runoff and sediments under a Solanum macrocarpon (L.) Moench farm after urea fertilizer application

    No full text
Runoff from agricultural fields is major of source nitrogen pollution of surface water resources. The impact of the menace on surface water directly emanating from agricultural fields in different agroecologies has not been fully understood. Applying different urea rates, the runoff and sediments generated from Solanum macrocarpon plots after rainfall and irrigation events were analyzed for nitrite-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen and ammonium-nitrogen in a one-year study involving two seasons. Significant nitrite-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen and ammonium-nitrogen response to the treatments were observed in 17 – 57% of the runoff events, and nitrate-nitrogen of sediments. Runoff NO2–N concentrations from 80 kg N ha-1 (CA) was in many cases higher than values in plots with lower rates. Commonly, runoff’s NO3–N from plots with urea was higher than controls’ in rainforest but within the urea treated plots, the differences were insignificant. In derived savanna about 67% of significant comparison of runoff NO3–N were between control and plots with urea while about 33% were due to differences noticed between 20 – 60 kg N ha-1 (MD 1 – MD 3) and MD 1 - CA. Moreover, NH4–N in runoff increased with urea in both agroecologies. In conclusion, NH4–N in runoff increased with applied urea while the responses of other nitrogen forms were inconsistent. Based on World Health Organization’s (WHO) standard, runoff‘s NO2–N from CA in derived savanna and all treatments in rainforest tended to be harmful to humans if it enters drinking water. However, NO3–N released from the plots seemed not harmful

Spatiotemporal zoning of groundwater quality in Rechna Doab: analysis of Electrical Conductivity (EC), Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), and Residual Sodium Carbonate (RSC) variability

    No full text
Groundwater quality is essential for sustaining human and plant life, as its degradation can harm vital organisms critical for ecosystem balance. GIS-based models have proven effective in large-scale water quality zoning, offering precise and efficient management tools. Therefore, present study was designed with objective of water quality zoning in Rechna doab. This study analyzed borehole data from 1,130 wells across the Rechna Doab region, collected from 2006 to 2019 during pre-monsoon (June) and post-monsoon (October) seasons. Key water quality parameters, including electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), and residual sodium carbonate (RSC), were interpolated using the inverse distance weighted (IDW) method in GIS. The results revealed that during the pre-monsoon season, 7.94% of the area exhibited poor water quality, 58.90% marginal, and 33.16% good quality. In the post-monsoon season, these values shifted to 11.65% poor, 52.43% marginal, and 35.93% good quality zones. Geo-statistical validation using semi-variogram and kriging demonstrated high model accuracy, with mean error (ME) and mean square error (MSE) values near zero. Additionally, root mean square error (RMSE) closely matched average standard error (ASE), though root mean square standardized error (RMSSE) values greater than 1 indicated overestimation for EC, SAR, and RSC. The study concluded that groundwater quality in Rechna Doab is deteriorating over time and recommends adopting artificial groundwater recharge and conservation strategies to preserve water quality
