As part of the project “Tales and Stories from the World and the Local Area”, the third-grade class of Giovanni XXIII Primary School in Lizzano in Belvedere explored local history, memory, and intangible heritage. Starting from the folk tale “The Tale of the Rooster and the Fresh Grass”, rooted in local tradition, students carried out interdisciplinary activities involving Italian, geography, art, science, technology, and English. The aim was to enhance the educational value of cultural heritage, its emotional and relational dimensions, and promote dialect as a language of memory. Students built a model of the territory, collected oral testimonies, and participated in intergenerational exchanges. This allowed them to experience a “situated” history, connected to their everyday life. The article retraces the project phases and offers a methodological reflection on the integration of oral and cultural heritage in history education, highlighting the value of active, interdisciplinary, and community-based learning approaches.
In this paper, I will explore the aims of the workshop Studying (gender) history through juridical sources: (quasi)matrimonial relationships and gender-based violence in the Middle Ages, the materials used, and the data collected. The workshop ran between September 2021 and April 2022 and involved 149 students and 4 public high schools in two Italian regions: Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna. The purposes were to bring the students closer to the critical study of medieval history through the lens of gender; to confront the issue of male violence against women, creating a link between past and present; to propose a method for history teachers to create thematic lessons on patriarchal violence, by using primary and secondary sources and a feminist approach.
The school system in South Tyrol has historically been characterised by a separation between Italian, German, and Ladin schools, reflecting the region’s linguistic and identity-related tensions. This division affects not only social cohesion but also the effectiveness of second language acquisition, which is hindered by the lack of authentic interaction among the different linguistic groups. This paper aims to examine how such a structure represents a barrier to cultural integration, proposing sport as a potential means of inclusion and a tool to overcome segregation. Drawing on a qualitative study based on interviews with key informants, the article highlights the potential of sport as an intercultural space capable of fostering contact, cooperation, and a shared sense of belonging. The contribution lies within the pedagogical debate on intercultural education, offering insights for promoting inclusive encounters and shared citizenship in a multilingual context.
The article focuses on the collection of sixteenth-century publishers’ catalogues gathered by Antoine-Augustin Renouard (1765-1853) and, more specifically, on its dispersion, with the aim of reconstructing the history and current location of his copies. This research led to the discovery of a Sammelband of manuscript and printed materials relating to the Aldine Press which was owned by the same Renouard and is now kept at the Universitätsbibliothek in Tübingen. The most interesting pieces are commented on, and a detailed description of the Sammelband contents is provided in the appendix.L’articolo concerne i cataloghi editoriali cinquecenteschi raccolti da Antoine-Augustin Renouard (1765-1853), dedicandosi nello specifico a ricostruire la dispersione degli esemplari appartenuti al bibliofilo parigino e la loro attuale localizzazione.
Sabina Magrini directed the MIC (Ministry of Culture) Regional Secretariat of Emilia-Romagna from 9.03.2015 to 5.11.2018. In this role, she was called to implement in Emilia-Romagna the reform of the former Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, promoted by Minister Dario Franceschini between 2014 and 2016. Both the activities carried out and some resistances encountered are briefly illustrated. In particular, this work illustrates Dr. Magrini’s commitment to the activation of the Regional Commission for Cultural Heritage (COREPACU), the new body in charge of deciding on most of the measures for the protection of cultural heritage, as well as, with regards to the competences in the field of tourism at the time exercised by the Ministry, the start and development of the important cultural tourism project ‘Ducato Estense’.Sabina Magrini diresse il Segretariato Regionale MIC per l’Emilia Romagna dal 9.03.2015 al 5.11.2018 ed in tale veste fu chiamata a dare attuazione in Regione alla Riforma dell’ex Ministero dei beni e delle attività culturali e del turismo, promossa dal ministro Dario Franceschini tra il 2014 ed il 2016. Ne viene sinteticamente illustrata l’attività svolta e talune resistenze incontrate.
The article explores the role played by Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Carlo Emilio Gadda’s thinking, as a negative paradigm with which to engage intensely – especially in Meditazione milanese – in order to develop a highly personal and anti-systemic gnoseological reflection. Gadda several times refers to Emile and the Confessions to argue ironically with the French philosopher both in the technical-scientific field, in his ‘engineering’ writings, and in the humanities. However, a different position on Rousseau can be found in two essays collected in the book I viaggi la morte (1958), in which the Engineer presents him as a precursor to Freud and Proust in the psychoanalytic investigation of the subject.L’articolo indaga il ruolo svolto dalla figura di Jean-Jacques Rousseau nella riflessione di Carlo Emilio Gadda, in quanto paradigma negativo con il quale confrontarsi intensamente – soprattutto nella Meditazione milanese – al fine di sviluppare una personalissima e antisistemica riflessione gnoseologica.
Intorno all'«Omaggio a Catullo» di Edoardo Sanguineti
The essay analyzes Edoardo Sanguineti’s Omaggio a Catullo, relating it both to the author’s theoretical reflection on translation and to his poetics. Starting from the concept of imitation as a form of disguise, the paper investigates how Sanguineti reworks Catullus’ texts in a contemporary key, placing his own voice within a constant dialogue between fidelity and invention. The Omaggio emerges as a laboratory of linguistic and metrical experimentation, in which translation becomes both rewriting and poetic self-portrait. Through an analysis of formal choices, intertextual references, and stylistic processes, the essay shows how Sanguineti’s operation reveals a conception of translation as a creative and dialogical act, capable of renewing the vitality of the classical text within the language of the present.
Paratext is a place of transaction and communicative exchange, through which a series of figures can establish a direct relationship with the reader, signing with him/her a series of “pacts”. Among these figures there is the translator, who may find in these marginal spaces a way out of the secondary status to which he/she has historically been relegated. Starting from the quantitative and qualitative study of a corpus of peritexts in a group of postcolonial literary works translated into Italian, this article interrogates the translator’s voice in these hybrid spaces and proposes a first theoretical description of the “translational pact”, through which the translator can build a positive ethos by discussing his/her complex act of mediation with the reader.
This article focuses on Victoria Ocampo’s Autobiografía and on the biographies written about her life by several women literary critics from Argentina, United States and France in the late 1900s, namely F. Schultz de Mantovani, A. Omil, Doris Meyer, O. Felgine and L. Ayerza de Castilho, M. E. Vázquez. After enumerating some models of self-representation Ocampo knew, this paper intends to explore the complex array of motivations that brought her to write her memoir. Secondly, it focuses on her biographers who explored her life in her specific social and cultural contexts, providing privileged proof of Ocampo’s life as an empowerment path for women writers. Therefore, it suggests that Ocampo’s own analysis of the risks, obstacles and achievements she faced after devising the editorial project Sur reveals her personal agency and the impact of her selfhood as a purposive social actor.
This article presents the German-Italian translation of the FGOP corpus Fluchtgeschichten aus Ostpreußen (refugee stories from Eastern Prussia), which consists of autobiographical narrative interviews conducted between 2015 and 2017 with Germans from Eastern Prussia and related to stories of flight and expulsion (Flucht- und Vertreibung) that occurred at the end of World War II (Cinato 2020). The approximately ten-hour interviews with three siblings who survived the war with very different experiences are available in the Datenbank für Gesprochenes Deutsch (DGD) of the Leibniz Institut für Deutsche Sprache (IDS) in Mannheim (corpus FGOP, escape stories from Eastern Prussia), and are part of a project at the University of Turin involving their transcription using the GAT2 system (Selting 2009), as well as their translation into Italian, the latter for the purpose of scientific research dissemination (activities of Public Engagement). The analysis offered herein aims, on one hand, to highlight the most important linguistic aspects of the autobiographical narrative interview text type and, on the other hand, to show the translation strategies and difficulties that one encounters when translating. Particular attention is paid to the adaptation strategies that need to be adopted for the Italian public who does not know these facts at all or knows very little about them. The translator thus needs to provide explanations and clarifications linked both to the family and the historical-institutional spheres. Very often, adaptation also means a simplification of the translated text, due to the many characteristics of spoken language, the tendency towards standardization and the mitigation of the stylistic and/or sociolinguistic variations inherent in the translations (Toury 1995). Selected examples are thus used to check what type of adaptation is necessary for this type of text and what simplification strategies can result from this process.
