Due annotazioni sul fr. 12 Di Marco di Timone di Fliunte: τάλαρος e φιλόσοφοι nel Museo di Alessandria
No full textFor a more correct interpretation of Timon's fragment 12 Di Marco, two additional observations are proposed, which could help better guide the exegesis of the ἅπαξ χαρακῖται, which has so far been the subject of a variety of hypotheses. The first observation concerns the meaning of the term τάλαρος, which should be translated as ‘workload,’ ‘burden,’ ‘incumbency,’ and not ‘cage,’ as it has been rendered so far. The second observation, a direct consequence of the first, starting from Athenaeus’s misinterpretation of τάλαρος, aims to clearly separate what the latter states in the fragment’s introduction from what it actually reports, suggesting that the comparison between the learned men and the precious birds is the fruit of an exegesis not derived from our fragment, but perhaps from another part of Timon’s work. If everything has a margin of plausibility and if the work of Athenaeus’s epitomizer follows a precise criterion, new perspectives would open up for the interpretation of χαρακῖται and the entire fragment.Ai fini di una più approfondita interpretazione del frammento 12 Di Marco di Timone di Fliunte, si propongono due osservazioni di contorno, che potrebbero contribuire ad indirizzare meglio l’esegesi dell’ἅπαξ χαρακῖται, finora oggetto delle più svariate ipotesi. La prima osservazione riguarda il valore del termine τάλαρος, da tradurre come 'carico di lavoro’, ‘fardello’, ‘incombenza’ e non ‘gabbia’, come, al contrario, è stato reso finora. La seconda osservazione, diretta conseguenza della prima, partendo dall’errata interpretazione di τάλαρος da parte di Ateneo, mira a separare nettamente quanto quest’ultimo afferma nella presentazione del frammento da ciò che esso riporta, suggerendo come il paragone tra i dotti e i preziosissimi volatili sia frutto di un’esegesi, non ricavabile dal nostro frammento, ma, forse, da altro punto dell’opera timoniana. Se tutto ciò ha un margine di verosimiglianza e se l’opera dell’epitomatore di Ateneo segue un criterio razionale, si aprirebbero nuove prospettive nell’interpretazione di χαρακῖται e dell’intero frammento

No full textThe manuscript Città del Vaticano, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Vat. lat. 7252, which, according to scholarly consensus, contains a series of ancient catalogues of the Altemps family library, actually preserves, in ff. 47r-168v, an index of Latin printed editions that belonged to Guglielmo Sirleto (1514–1585), Cardinal Librarian of the Holy Roman Church and a renowned bibliophile. This document is noteworthy, for whereas almost all other inventories arrange Sirleto’s books by format, this one is organized alphabetically. The final part of the paper consists of a comparative table of the items recorded in Vat. lat. 7252 and those listed in Vat. lat. 6163, the most famous of the inventories of Sirleto’s library.Il manoscritto Città del Vaticano, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Vat. lat. 7252, che secondo la critica conterrebbe antichi inventari della biblioteca della famiglia Altemps, riporta invece, ai ff. 47r-168v, un indice delle edizioni latine a stampa appartenute a Guglielmo Sirleto (1514-1585), cardinale bibliotecario di Santa Romana Chiesa e celebre bibliofilo: si tratta di una testimonianza degna di nota, giacché, se quasi tutti gli inventari suddividono i libri sirletiani per formato, questo è organizzato alfabeticamente. The Origin of the Internationalisation of the RBTA: La Manzanera, 1963-1978, in the Mass Media
No full textThis article delves into the origins of the internationalisation of the first works of Ricardo Bofill's Taller de Arquitectura (RBTA), tracing a genealogy that goes through five pieces built in Spain in the decade 1965-1975 that had great repercussions in the professional mass media abroad: the Gaudi Quarter (Reus), Kafka Castle (Sant Pere de Ribes), La Manzanera with Xanadu and the Red Wall (Calpe) and Walden 7 (Sant Just Desvern). All of them, with a greater or lesser profusion of pages (first with black and white photographs and, after, in colour), were reproduced in L'Architecture d'Aujourd d'Hui (Paris), Architectural Design (London), Architectural Forum (New York), Architectural Review (London), Architecture and Urbanism (Tokyo), Abitare (Milan), Baumeister (Munich), Global Architecture (Tokyo), Progressive Architecture (Stanford) and Zodiac (Milan), among others.
In addition, the text traces, in particular, the media fortune of the different tourist properties of the La Manzanera complex in Calpe: the Castillo-Plexus (1963-1966), Xanadu (1966-1968), the Red Wall (1968-1973-1975) and the Viaduct (1975). In this journey, the magazines' eagerness to supply iconic images to the detriment of plans to a public eager for novelties is evident, but this strategy served for the RBTA to disseminate its own poetics and signs of identity through architectures that were striking in their material and chromatic formality. The text stops when RBTA is developing the Les Halles competition in Paris in 1973-1975, reflecting on the evolution of the compositional systems from the modular combination to the hierarchy of the Beaux Arts systems, entering into a new historicism that the magazines once again sanctioned.
An Analytical Study on Campus Street Types Considering Sustainable Landscape Microclimate
No full textThis study investigates the influence of street space enclosure on microclimate within a university campus setting, classifying campus streets into open, semi-open, and street entry types. Microclimatic data was collected along a 2 km main spine and an additional 1.5 km street area. Enclosure was quantified using sky view factor analysis of photospheric data, and GIS analysis was employed to assess its impact on various microclimatic attributes. Results from inverse distance weighted (IDW) mapping reveal that open street types exhibit more favourable microclimatic conditions, whereas street entry types experience the least desirable conditions. Geostatistical analysis indicates a significant correlation between sky view factor and light intensity, while wind flow demonstrates a positive correlation, albeit without statistical significance. This research underscores the importance of street space design in shaping campus microclimates and offers insights for enhancing outdoor comfort within university environments
Computer-Aided Decision-Making for the Highest Sustainable Reuse of Historic Buildings
No full textThe adaptive reuse policy aims to extend the functional life of the historic building in a way that suits its physical age. Recently, computer software has been utilized in decision-making processes as an assistant and accelerator to attain the best results. This paper seeks to create a program to achieve the Highest Sustainable Reuse - HSR of the historic building. The software is created by specifying two categories of urban and architectural requirements and restrictions. The first relates to the characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of the historic building, while the second describes the needs and conditions of the proposed function. By performing an algorithmic comparison, the program is able to provide percentages for a set of proposed functions based on the case study. The paper concluded the effectiveness of the proposed methodology by conducting it on the historic Al- Barood Khanah building in Mosul
Gianni Celati: il ‘flâneur’ nell’epoca digitale. Sulle tracce della piccola oasi
No full textFollowing Rilke’s attitude in his Duino Elegies, Gianni Celati moves toward the frontiers of negation, recognizing that all things have a limit (mourning), however, at this «edge of no», he suggests that things balance upon a hidden foundation (silence). Thus, negation is not exclusively death, and the flâneur, standing at this limit, as a Wanderer, rediscovers the small oasis, that is, the word. In this wandering, Celati displays a particular inclination toward the search for and discovery of that unknown second meaning of things and places. A possible and productive analysis of Celati’s works may be conceived by approaching his texts through Heidegger’s hermeneutics. The chosen interpretative effort is not without its challenges. However, it is certainly useful for the restoration of that ethical/aesthetic and ecological flânerie to the present that now more than ever is relevant in an era so fleeting and digital, where paths disappear too easily and horizons are equally erased.Sulla linea rilkiana delle Duinesi, Gianni Celati riconduce il movimento dello scrivere-immaginare ad un fronte della negazione, comprendendo cioè che le cose hanno un limite (il lutto), però in questa sorta di «bordo del no» esse si bilanciano su un fondo segreto (il silenzio). Allora la negazione non è solo morte e il flâneur che si porta su quel limite, in quanto Wanderer, riscopre la piccola oasi, cioè la parola. Celati mostra così una particolare disposizione alla ricerca, e dunque alla scoperta, di quell’ignoto secondo lato delle cose e dei luoghi. Una rilettura possibile e produttiva dell’opera celatiana è certamente concepibile come un’ermeneutica prossima alla lezione heideggeriana. La close reading scelta non è priva di insidie, ma è senz’altro funzionale per restituire al presente quella speciale flânerie, etica/estetica ed ecologica, oggi più che mai attuale e necessaria in un’epoca assai fugace e digitale dove scompaiono troppo facilmente i percorsi e si cancellano gli orizzonti
Ensuring adequate remuneration for vulnerable solo self-employed through collective bargaining – EU antitrust prohibition as a limit?
No full textAfter the research project “The right to adequate remuneration for solo-entrepreneurs” has already shown that the international legal obligations ratified by European States require effective protection of an appropriate level of remuneration for solo self-employed workers, and ways to fulfil these obligations in national law have been identified, the question arises as to whether and to what extent remuneration regulations in favour of solo self-employed workers would be compatible with EU primary law. With regard to the collective negotiation of minimum wages, the extent to which the negotiation process and the agreements reached would be compatible with the prohibition of cartels under Art. 101 TFEU must be analysed. For this purpose, it is necessary to examine the relationship between EU and national antitrust prohibitions, the extent to which a cartel exception in favour of solo self-employed persons can be inferred from the case law of the CJEU and the content and consequences of the current 'Guidelines on the application of Union competition law to collective agreements regarding the working conditions of solo self-employed persons' of the European Commission.

No full textJust over one year ago, in this journal, I wrote of how the Adequate Minimum Wage Directive, pre-transposition, was already having an impact on Irish law and policy regarding collective bargaining. There have been considerable developments over the past 12 months or so; the challenge to the Directive before the CJEU has been heard, and the matter settled, and Ireland is one of the first Member States to publish its Collective Bargaining Action Plan, as required by the Directive. In this short update, I will give some initial reflections on the Plan, and some thoughts on the future after the CJEU ruling
I’m Still Standing: Transposition and political impact of the Directive on Adequate Minimum Wages in the EU
No full textMore than one year after the deadline for the transposition of the European Minimum Wage Directive into national law, this contribution analyses the impact which the Directive already had on minimum wage setting and collective bargaining at national level. The article illustrates that the impact of the Directive goes far beyond the legal changes introduced in the context of its formal transposition into national law. Another important dimension is the political impact which the Directive had on the political agenda setting and the more general discourse about minimum wages and collective bargaining at national level. The article illustrates that the Directive is indeed a game changer but that it also faces some obstacles that prevent it from realizing its full potential in ensuring adequate minimum wages and strong collective bargaining. Against this background, the article highlights the need for further supportive actions at European level in order to support and push the Member States to realize the Directive’s overarching political objectives of reducing in-work poverty and wage inequality
