National Team of Greece: Gender, Sports, and the Recession
National Team of Greece (2015) was a dramedy broadcast on Greek television revolving around a group of women’s efforts to establish the first Greek women’s curling team, amidst a number of personal challenges and societal obstacles, as much as against the backdrop of a country in deep political and economic crisis. Building on scholarly approaches to the ideological role of popular culture in turbulent times, this article examines the infiltration of recession themes in the content of television fiction, while centralizing a gendered reading of the narrative of the case at hand. Specifically, it provides a critical reading of the main narrative strategies of the programme – the female narrator, the female ensemble, and the metaphor of sports – in order to register the ways that the series enters into a dialogue with familiar gender tropes, such as questions of female agency, coping, and empowerment. Finally, it discusses the concept of empowerment and the ways it is accomplished or impeded within television in the (post)recessionary cultural moment, by focusing on aspects of the series’ production and reception
The taxation regime for corporate income in Portugal is not truly unitary. These revenues can be taxed under the Personal Income Tax or Corporate Income Tax. Additionally, in each case, the taxable income can be determined basing either on the general regime rules or on the simplified regime ones. This coexistence of legal regimes poses – or may pose – questions of compatibility with the Portuguese constitutional norms, especially with Article 104.O regime de tributação dos rendimentos das empresas em Portugal não é verdadeiramente unitário.

The Quest for Timely Civil Justice Dispensation: A Discussion of Case Management System Applied in the High Court of Tanzania
This research examines the systemic deficiencies in Tanzania’s High Court Civil Justice Case Management System (CMS), with particular emphasis on its three foundational components: case scrutinisation, event scheduling, and procedural control. The study employs a comprehensive analysis of current legal frameworks and procedural mechanisms to evaluate the system’s effectiveness in facilitating timely justice delivery. The investigation reveals significant structural weaknesses across multiple phases of civil proceedings. At the admission stage, inadequate initial case scrutinisation allows flawed cases to progress through the system, necessitating subsequent judicial intervention during judgment writing. The research identifies critical gaps in statutory time management, particularly in pre-trial proceedings where temporal constraints remain undefined. The hearing phase demonstrates similar systemic shortcomings, lacking prescribed commencement timeframes and allowing indefinite extensions of speed tracks. Furthermore, the study uncovers substantial deficiencies in appellate proceedings, specifically in the scrutinisation and scheduling of appeals, revisions, and auxiliary applications. While the system implements a ninety-day rule for judgment delivery and implies scrutinisation duties, it lacks robust enforcement mechanisms, ultimately compromising judicial efficiency. This analysis contributes to the scholarly discourse on judicial reform by highlighting how structural inadequacies in case management systems can impede civil justice administration. The research concludes by proposing targeted reforms to enhance the existing CMS framework, potentially offering insights for similar jurisdictions grappling with case management challenges
Arturo Nannizzi (1877-1961): “a singular scientist” in the history of mycology
Arturo Nannizzi was a singular scientist from Siena, who, thanks to a deep commitment and an extraordinary experience linked to uncommon intellectual abilities, was able to make up for the lack of a formal curriculum of studies. Thanks to the availability of the teacher Gino Pollacci, who called him as a collaborator, Nannizzi participated in a scientific project of great importance: the preparation and publication of a work that would become a milestone in the field of applied mycology “I miceti patogeni dell’uomo e degli animali”. Nannizzi also made a fundamental contribution to the taxonomy of dermatophytes, having been the first to demonstrate the complete development of the sexual state of a dermatophyte. Often opposed during his activity for the fact that he did not have a degree, his work was re-evaluated only after his death
Leucocoprinus idae-fragum in a cypress alley nearby Lake Bracciano in Latium
In the area of the Italian town Trevignano Romano, within the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park, we have found several rare Leucocoprinus specimens belonging to section Piloselli. In the same cypress alley in precedence, we have reported the presence of the two uncommon species Myriostoma coliforme and a still undefined Battarrea sp. Specifically, in the winter period of recent years, we have found Leucocoprinus pseudopilatianus, Leucocoprinus gaillardii, Leucocoprinus marginatus and particularly, Leucocoprinus idae-fragum. The taxonomic identities of the specimens were confirmed through molecular and phylogenetic analyses. Because information on the extremely rare L. idae-fragum is still limited, a description of these specimens is presented including their peculiar growth environment which seems now under threat of human intervention
Adriano, the Church, and the City. Olivetti and the Religious Architectural Patronage between 1950s and 1960s in Ivrea
The study aims to investigate the relation between the Olivetti company and its patronage in religious architecture which constitutes a rarity that has still to be read within Olivetti’s social commitment. Described by Bruno Zevi as a “cocktail” of Judaism, Waldism, and Catholicism, the Olivetti represented the synthesis of these three spiritualities, with consequences in terms of architectural project.
Since its 1908 foundation in Ivrea (Turin), especially under the presidency of Adriano Olivetti (1938-1960), the company adopted a holistic approach regarding the themes of production and work. Starting from the ideal of Comunità theorized by Adriano, the company committed itself with the synergic promotion of the factory’s growth, territory and society. In this framework, the planning of new settlements – whose realization is wanted by the company – becomes relevant.
The study analyzes the changes of the role of religious architecture from a relative centrality in the 1930s to a progressive marginalization in the first two decades after the World War II. This change is considered within the progressive loss of sense of community in the 1960s, when the Olivetti company lost its main guide – Adriano suddenly died in 1960 – and the Church faced a crucial crisis after the Concilio Vaticano II (1962-1965).
This critical moment is described through the analysis of the Canton Vesco district in Ivrea: here, between the 1950s and the 1960s, the Sacro Cuore (Nizzoli - Oliveri studio, Favini), and the San Francesco (Boschetti, De Carlo, Giovannini, Livadiotti) Catholic churches, and the Waldensian Evangelical Temple (Koenig - Messina) were designed and built.
The essay aims at highlighting the relation between these architectures and the urban context, also considering the influence they had – or did not have – on the contextual planning of the Canavese area, which was particularly subjected to religious reformism
MRAR – The Portuguese “Religious Art Renovation Movement” (1954-1969) and the Changes in the 20th Century Religious Architecture in Portugal
Founded in 1954, the MRAR – Religious Art Renovation Movement was the product of the will of a group of architects, artists and historians, such as Nuno Teotónio Pereira, João de Almeida, Nuno Portas, Diogo Pimentel, Luíz Cunha, Manuel Cargaleiro, José Escada and Vitorino Nemésio, who were committed to giving religious buildings in Portugal greater dignity and artistic quality, in a formal opposition to the maintenance of traditionalist models.
For fifteen years, the MRAR made a significant contribution to the Church’s and country’s cultural renewal through an artistic, political and pastoral programme that constituted the best example of religious and cultural intervention of an elite who operated an effective renewal of religious buildings, as well as an anthropological and sociological appreciation of liturgical space. After it came to an end, the high quality of architectural and theological discussion of religious buildings provided by MRAR was never repeated in Portugal
The paper aims to investigate the scientific claim that Hegel associates with his philosophy of right and to evaluate its relevance, if any, in the history of political science. The essay first identifies some aspects of the Hegelian conception of science, in particular the difference between speculative and intellectual science. On this basis, it aims to display the epistemic structure of the philosophy of right, tracing Hegel’s scientific operation on the knowledge of the time: modern natural law, political economy, legal science and police science.
Edition, Annotation, Visualization: Issues and Perspectives of/for Digital Philology
The essay presents a reflection on the consequences that the massive digitisation of manuscript and printed cultural heritage has had on digital philology and new ecdotic paradigms: from the centrality of the document, which pushes towards a bédierization of editorial models, to the overcoming of the ‘apico-basal’ model towards mixed models, to IIIF annotations, with the two different case studies of the Biblioteca Digitale Vaticana and the Estense Digital Library, which introduce a new model of knowledge sharing, between palaeographic transcription and commentary, particularly suitable in the educational field. The essay concludes with an exploration of the consequences of Data Visualization in the representation of textual phenomena, and its impact on the study of texts and the construction of a ‘textual literacy’, i.e. a textual competence, as an integral part of humanistic education.
