Breaking a 128-year silence: new records of Cyphella digitalis (Alb. & Schwein.) Fr. in Italy
Cyphella digitalis develops small, distinctly campanulate basidiomata exclusively on Abies alba. While its presence has been well documented north of the Alps, only a singular record has been reported from Italy almost 129 years ago with no further findings until now. In 2024, C. digitalis was recorded on several A. alba individuals in the relict population of Monte Nero (Emilian-Ligurian Apennines, SIC IT4010003) along with few specimens from the broader A. alba populations in Trento Province. Consistent with the hardly mistakable morphology, molecular barcode confirmed the basidiomata identity. Unfortunately, very few nucleotide sequences of this species have been deposited in repositories to date, making it impossible to reconstruct a robust intraspecific phylogeny. No differences have been pointed out between samples from the Apennines and the Alps based on either the ITS region or morphology, nor with regard to other European regions according to the literature. This study suggests that C. digitalis may have been overlooked in both Italian sides of the Alps as well as in the relict A. alba populations of the Apennines. Since C. digitalis is monophagous, these findings highlight the importance of conserving relict habitats including A. alba in the Apennines, especially from a fungal conservation perspective
The Ricardo Bofill’s Proposal for the Waterfront Revitalization of Salerno (Italy)
This paper reflects on the proposals elaborated by the Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura for the waterfront revitalization of the Italian city of Salerno in the attempt to replicate two of his architectural projects, i.e. the crescent- and sail-shaped buildings. By the review of planning documentations and the scientific and non-scientific literature, this work highlights the reasons that eventually led to the building of the Crescent and the failed implementation of the Sail. The case study analysis provides new insights on the role of star-architecture in triggering waterfront revitalization in a second-tier city following the tendency of public authorities to translate ideas and approaches from other international cities. In particular, this work demonstrates that the elaboration of spectacular projects designed by international architectural firms cannot be automatically adapt successful projects implemented in other contexts, but needs assemblage with the local urban, social, and environmental facets. Furthermore, it is observed that the success or failure of these kinds of projects might be attributable not to the mere transposition of identical schemes and the political legitimization, but also from the inadequate implementation of architectural and urban design that face thus criticism by the public opinion
One Last Modular Game. Taller de Arquitectura and Le Petite Cathèdrale
In 1971, while the Taller de Arquitectura was beginning the project for Walden 7, the team received the commission to build a housing complex in the ville nouvelle of Cergy-Pontoise on the outskirts of Paris. Continuing with the working method that began with the book "Towards a Formalization of the City in Space", the Taller established a construction system for the project of 1000 homes, which they would call Le Petite Cathédrale, based on working with models and creating a clear spatial order.
However, unlike the Walden 7 project, this small cathedral began to address the concerns of the Taller members, seeking formal relationships with the architecture present in the Mediterranean city. For the team, in this project, the form is the "what," the final objective, and the "how" is the Cartesian arrangement of the modules. Thus, Le Petite Cathédralebecomes the last example of the team's modular work; an unbuilt project that marks the end of a line of research, that of the city in space, and opens the door to a new attitude in approaching a project, based on form and image
Based on the experience of the project At the Table with Garibaldi and Mazzini, this article explores the educational potential of food history in conveying historical knowledge. Food—understood as source, narrative, and practice—offers a way to engage students and non-specialist audiences with complex topics such as political exile, national identity, and the material culture of the 19th century. Drawing on work carried out with schools in Liguria and Sardinia, the article offers a methodological reflection on the use of cooking as a tool for teaching and public engagement: the materiality of food, its symbolic charge, and its ability to evoke collective memories prove to be effective instruments for narrating the past and promoting an accessible form of history.
Topic vs. Allocutive in the Language into Act Theory. Corpus-based research on spoken Italian
The paper presents the corpus-based comparison between the Topic and the Allocutive information units within the Language into Act Theory framework. The Topic is defined as the field of application for the illocutionary force of the Comment and is necessarily performed through a prefix prosodic unit preceding the Comment. The Topic's functional, morpho-syntactic, frequency, prosodic characteristics, and semantic restrictions are detailed. Then, vocatives are introduced, highlighting their broad use that can extend from directive illocutionary types (calling) to forms of dialogic support (Allocutive). Allocutive can be defined as a device of social/empathic cohesion and attention reactivation, which is clearly distinguished because of flat and defocused proso+dy preferentially occurring after the Comment. The Allocutive’s detailed functional, frequency, lexical, and prosodic description follows. Allocutive’s semantic constraints are usually limited to bare nouns and proper names, but corpus observation shows that deictic expressions and, more generally, any referential descriptions are not attested in corpus and are competence rejected. Based on this observation, a comparison is made between Topic and Allocutive. The paper argues that no interpretation ambiguity can occur between an information structure composed of a Topic-Comment or an Allocutive-Comment pattern, even if an identical sequence of words fills them. It depends on the respective prosodic performances and their semantic values. While the Topic is characterized by an identifiable reference, needed for an adequate field of application for the illocutionary force, the Allocutive makes its nominal fillings lose a referential interpretation in favor of a designatory reading required by its cohesive function
Regular exposure to oral language in all its variety develops learners’ listening, production and mediation skills, as they discover the lexical, grammatical, phonetic, multimodal and intercultural components of language practices. This article sets out to explore an ecological corpus of interactions, explaining the aims and procedures used by speakers in their private or professional interactions and reflecting on skills that learners continue to develop as they are exposed to these uses. We will detail our use of Clapi-FLE in two very different university courses and share the benefits of this corpus with students who have worked on the theme of cooking. The aim of the article is twofold: to show that this resource lends itself to multiple contexts of use and language levels; and to encourage changes in teaching practices, both in French as a Foreign Language and in Dialogue Interpreting, by contributing to the debate on two of the descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, namely ‘interaction’ and ‘mediation’.L’exposition régulière à la langue orale dans la variété de ses réalisations développe les compétences d’écoute, de production et de médiation des apprenant.e.s, qui découvrent ainsi les composantes lexicales, grammaticales, phonétiques, multimodales et interculturelles des pratiques langagières.
The paper examines the complex relationship between algorithmic opacity and epistemic control in contemporary digital societies, with particular attention to the dynamics of Surveillance Capitalism. The analysis focuses on the tension between the computational efficiency of machine-learning–based artificial intelligence systems and the veil of opacity that often surrounds these technologies. Adopting a notion of opacity that also encompasses non-technical factors—such as source-code secrecy and digital illiteracy—the article investigates how opacity functions as a device of epistemic power. Finally, it stresses that, beyond the well-known risks to individual rights, the algorithmic black box poses systemic challenges to the categories of epistemic sovereignty and agency, both understood as essential to the development of healthy and authentic democratic processes.
