Vita nella chiesa. Per un nuovo paesaggio spirituale

    No full text
The essay addresses the theme of contemporary ecclesiastical architecture as a critical and design-oriented field, exploring the possibility of its renewed significance in today’s city. Starting from a provocative reflection on the crisis of the traditional church building type and the inadequacy of the parish center as an urban response, it investigates a concrete alternative: parabolic architecture. Through the projects developed within the research program “Church for the Future” — structured around three exemplifications: Creation, Generation, and Existence — and consolidated in a didactic workshop at the Politecnico di Milano, the essay proposes a new architectural figuration capable of engaging in dialogue with the city, embracing diversity, and becoming an experiential and spiritual place. The design interventions proposed in contexts of urban regeneration in Milan (Scalo Porta Romana, Santa Giulia) involve the experimentation with hybrid buildings and urban chapels as spaces of relationship and reconciliation. The use of generative artificial intelligence, presented in the study Spiritual A.I., further opens up unprecedented symbolic scenarios, reviving spatial liturgical imagination as a tool for urban transformation. It is an invitation to move beyond formal nostalgia and static functionalism, in order to restore a proactive role to religious architecture in the future of dwelling. L’uso dell’intelligenza artificiale generativa presentato nello studio Spiritual A.I. apre, inoltre, a scenari simbolici inediti, rilanciando l’immaginazione spaziale liturgica come strumento di trasformazione urbana.

Speculative Pachamama: Spectral Politics Beyond Life and Fertility

    No full text
Through an ethnography of culinary offerings dedicated to Earth-Beings, this essay explores the speculative thought of Andean herders in Jujuy (NW Argentina) as they reflect on their relations with Pachamama and the “modern” rituals of politicians and corporations. Beyond cultural-appropriation frameworks, it argues that such speculative comparisons reveal how these rituals also summon spectral forces, exposing a spectral politics that exceeds life, fertility, and modern secularity.Through an ethnography of culinary offerings dedicated to Earth-Beings, this essay explores the speculative thought of Andean herders in Jujuy (NW Argentina) as they reflect on their relations with Pachamama and the “modern” rituals of politicians and corporations. No full text
This dossier focuses on ecological and sociocultural "relationality", as well as the rhythms and spatio-temporal dynamics of festive and ritual practices in Ibero-American mountain areas. By environmental relationality, we mean epistemologies, ontologies, perceptions, and practices of life centred on the ecological and sociocultural relationships between the "lifelines" of beings, entities, presences, actors, and agents, based on different theoretical approaches.

Keep it simple, student! Platone e la formazione musicale del cittadino

    No full text
One of the most difficult aspects to investigate in Greco-Roman music pedagogy is the teaching of instruments, both for ordinary citizens and professionals. Treatises invariably focus on theory, considering the physical and mental effort involved in learning to play an instrument to be an almost servile activity unworthy of theoretical consideration. This article examines a well-known passage from Plato’s Laws, in which the philosopher outlines what can be described as a basic curriculum for teaching kithara playing in an imaginary Cretan colony, Magnesia. Plato’s aim is to define the levels of musical competence that he believed were essential for non-specialist citizens.

2023. La lingua dei meme. Roma: Carocci

    No full text
Debora de Fazio and Pierluigi Ortolano present an engaging sociolinguistic investigation on memes in a concise volume from the Carocci Bussole series – dedicated to accessible scholarly overviews – situated at the crossroads of Digital and Public Humanities. The authors outline a linguistic history of the phenomenon, beginning with the reflections of the onomaturge Richard Dawkins and continuing with a review of the main derivative terms (chapters 1–2). The core of the study lies in the analysis of the linguistic features of Italian-language memes, accompanied by a set of classification criteria based on type, content (chapter 3), and domain of application (sports, politics, society; chapter 4). The volume concludes with a pedagogical proposal which, in the context of Italian language teaching at both school and university level, promotes the use of memes from a ludo-linguistic perspective, as a means of inferring grammatical rules from error (chapter 5 and online materials).Debora de Fazio e Pierluigi Ortolano affidano alle pagine di un’agile “bussola” Carocci una stimolante indagine sociolinguistica sui meme, collocata all’incrocio tra Digital e Public Humanities. In essa gli autori tracciano una storia linguistica del fenomeno, partendo dalle riflessioni formulate dall’onomaturgo Richard Dawkins e passando in rassegna i principali termini derivati (capp. 1-2). 5 e materiali online)

The review of Italianistica digitale. La ricerca dei giovani studiosi, edited by I. Cesaroni, S. Gallegati, G. Marozzi, and M. Maselli examines the breadth and dynamism of current research in digital humanities within the field of Italian studies. Organized into eleven thematic sections, the volume gathers contributions from early-career scholars, ranging from Dante to Umberto Eco, and showcases how traditional philological methods are being reshaped through digital innovation. Focusing on the sections devoted to Editions, Correspondences, and Philology, the review discusses digital critical and genetic edition projects—such as Opengadda, Digital Alfieri, and digital editions of Capuana and Verga—that address issues of textual representation, TEI encoding, and data visualization. The analysis highlights the digital medium’s capacity to overcome the physical constraints of print while opening new methodological perspectives. Overall, the book emerges as a collective laboratory reflecting the plurality of approaches and the creative energy driving the new generation of scholars.

Leveraging machine learning to analyze and forecast air quality trends in Kota City, India

    No full text
Air quality is a critical indicator of environmental health, directly impacting human well-being and ecological stability. Rapid urbanization and industrialization have recently exacerbated air pollution, necessitating robust monitoring and predictive frameworks. This study investigates air quality trends in Kota city of Rajasthan, India and using data from 2017 to 2023. Machine learning models, including linear regression (LR), random forest (RF), decision tree (DT), support vector regressor (SVR), and K-nearest neighbors (KNN), were employed to analyze predict air quality index (AQI) values based on key pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, NO, NO2, NOx, NH3, SO2, CO, Ozone, Benzene, Ethyl-Benzene, m & p-Xylene considering the effects of meteorological factors like relative humidity (RH), wind speed (WS), wind directions (WD), and barometric pressure (BP). Among these, the decision tree regressor shows almost perfect fit on the training set (R2 score 0.9999) and excellent test performance (R2 score 0.9991), suggesting a very accurate prediction model. However, it exhibits potential overfitting, limiting its generalization capabilities. On the other hand, the random forest regressor provides a balance of accuracy and robustness, achieving an R² score of 0.9831, making it the preferred model for reliable predictions. The study delves into pollutant contributions, evaluates model performances, and explores actionable insights for policymakers. By leveraging machine learning approaches, the study aims to provide a comprehensive framework for analyzing air quality trends and supporting decision-making processes

Effects of organic carbon loading on microalgal growth and community dynamics in photobioreactors

    No full text
This study investigates the impact of varying organic carbon loads on the growth, composition, and productivity of microalgae in controlled photobioreactor systems. Three laboratory-scale bioreactors were operated with synthetic wastewater containing different concentrations of Carbon (100, 400, and 800 mgL-1), while maintaining consistent nitrogen and phosphorus inputs. Parameters monitored included pH, chlorophyll a, total suspended solids (TSS), volatile suspended solids (VSS), and microalgal community composition. Microscopic analysis revealed that moderate glucose concentrations (100–400 mgL-1) favored the proliferation of Scenedesmus sp and Chlorella sp, while excessive organic carbon input (800 mgL-1) led to a decline in species diversity and overall algal biomass. Statistical analysis confirmed significant variations in pH, chlorophyll a, TSS, and VSS across treatments, with bioreactor A showing the highest values of algal productivity and pH due to optimal photosynthetic activity. The results demonstrate that moderate organic carbon enrichment enhances algal growth and trophic complexity, while excessive organiccarbon suppresses phytoplankton development, likely due to microbial competition and acidification. These findings provide valuable insights for optimizing organic carbon inputs in algal-based wastewater treatment and ecological restoration strategies
