    Exploring Scientific Literacy of Chemistry Education Pre-Service Teachers Through Socio-Scientific Issues Approach

    Scientific literacy is an ability that must be had by pre-service teachers. This research aimed to find out the scientific literacy's ability of pre-service teachers in chemistry education. This research was descriptive with quantitative approach. Participants were taken by simple random sampling techniques, the participants are chemistry education students. The data source comes from scientific literacy tests with socio-scientific issues and open-ended question description tests. The validity of the data was tested using a data triangulation technique, in which researchers compare data obtained through test instruments and interview results. The results of the data analysis showed the scientific literacy of chemistry education students was dominant in the nominal and functional categories with a percentage of 33.2% and 24.2%, conceptual and multidimensional categories 13.7%; 4.4%; and 24.5% of students did not give answers the tests

    Developing E-module on the Topic of Integrated Addictive Substances with Islamic Values

    E-module is one of the media that is considered efficient to be used as a learning media. This research describes the e-module of addictive substances integrated with Islamic values as a solution in preventing and reducing addictive substance abuse, especially among adolescents, by providing scientific knowledge related to religious knowledge. The study aims to analyze the characteristic of e-module and validation results. The e- module is designed with the Design-Based Research (DBR) method with the three steps: analysis, design, and development. Based on the results, the e-module display Islamic views and their interpretation, animated videos, questions, attitude tests, and games.     Design and Trial of Electronic Smart Worksheets Based on POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) on Acid-Base Topic

    This research aims to produce and determine the feasibility of Predict, Observe, Explain (POE) based student electronic smart worksheet. The method used is research and development design. The development stages of this model consist of three stages: defining, designing, and developing. The research respondences were media design experts, learning material experts, chemistry teachers, and ten students. Instruments that used to validate and practical tests are questionnaires. Electronic smart worksheets are created using the articulate storyline application to develop the stages of POE learning. The validity of the worksheet in terms of media, material, practical, and student response results are 80% (valid), 97.14% (very valid), 96.81% (very practical), 89.61% (very practical), respectively. Based on these results, it could be concluded that POE based student electronic smart worksheet is suitable for use as an acid-base learning media

    Secondary metabolites are part of the discussion of Natural Product Organic Chemistry which demands a practicum process in lectures. This research aims to determine process skills through the application of inquiry-based worksheets on secondary metabolite analysis of three types of Indonesian medicinal plants. In the worksheet, there were several expected goals, including developing students' abilities in designing experiments, conducting experiments, and communicating both orally and in writing. The method used in this research was a One-Shot Case Study with 18 students taking Natural Product Organic Chemistry courses. The instruments used were learning descriptions, inquiry-based worksheets, observation sheets, assessment sheets (psychomotor, presentations, and reports). The results of the worksheet application showed that the students' ability obtain an average value of 84.15 with a very good category. The ability to design experiments, conduct experiments, and communicate orally and in writing obtained results of 77.16 (good categories), 92.50 (very good), and 82.80 (very good), respectively. This inquiry-based worksheet can be used in the study of Natural Product Organic Chemistry, especially in secondary metabolites.Penelitian ini bertujuan mengukur kemampuan mahasiswa dalam merancang, melakukan serta mengomunikasikan secara lisan dan tulisan, melalui penerapan lembar kerja berbasis inkuiri pada analisis metabolit sekunder beberapa tanaman obat Indonesia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah One Shot Case Study pada mahasiswa mata kuliah Kimia Organik Bahan Alam sebanyak 18 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa deskripsi pembelajaran, lembar kerja berbasis inkuiri, lembar observasi, lembar penilaian (psikomotor, presentasi, dan laporan). Hasil penerapan lembar kerja menunjukan hasil rata-rata 84,15 dengan kategori sangat baik. Kemampuan merancang percobaan memperoleh nilai  77,16 (kategori baik); melakukan percobaan dan mengomunikasikan secara lisan maupun tulisan memperoleh hasil berturut-turut 92,50 dan 82,80 (sangat baik). Sehingga lembar kerja inkuiri ini dapat digunakan dalam pembelajaran Kimia Organik Bahan Alam khususnya dalam submateri metabolit sekunder.Â

    Development of Integrated Assessment Instrument to Measure Critical Thinking Skills and Self-Efficiency in Acid-Base Concept

    The purpose of this research is to describe the stages of developing and validating a product which includes content validity and constructs validity. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with define, design, develop, and disseminate (4D) model. The initial product was validated by material and learning evaluation expert lecturer. The suitability of the items evaluated by chemistry teacher based on indicators of competency achievement. The sample selection was determined by stratified random sampling of 170 students of 11th grade senior high school in Yogyakarta City. Content validity was analyzed using Aiken's V formula. The results of data analysis show that all components of the test instrument are valid with Aiken's V value greater than 0.80 with a significance of 0.05. Verification of construct validity was analyzed using exploratory factor analysis with the help of the SPSS version 21.0 program. The results prove that all components in the integrated assessment instrument are suitable to be used to measure the critical thinking skills and self-efficacy of students on acid-base concept

    The Effectiveness of KAPRA Learning Model on Buffer Solution to improve Students' Critical Thinking Skills

    This study analyzes the effectiveness of the KAPRA learning model (associate, experience, think, negotiate, and apply) students' critical thinking skills on buffer solutions. The subjects of this research are students of class XI MIPA 3 as the experimental and class XI MIPA 4 as the control class at SMAN 10 Pekanbaru. The method uses experimental research with a randomized control group pretest-posttest research design. The data obtained were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, hypothesis testing and N-Gain test. The results showed that the KAPRA learning model effectively increased students' critical thinking skills. Based on the hypothesis test, tcount > ttable (5.89 > 1.66) with the N-Gain value in the moderate category of 0.52

    Improving Students Science Process and Critical Thinking Skills Using Semi-Research Patterns Practicum

    The old pattern of practicum implementation has less impact on increasing students’ science process skills and critical thinking. Therefore, implementing practicum with a semi-research pattern has been carried out by involving the lecturer and laboratory assistant. The subjects of this research were 40 students in Universitas Negeri Medan. The method is classroom action research consisting of two cycles. Each cycle includes planning, action, reflection, and evaluation. Instrument’s research is the observation sheet and essay test. The results of descriptive data analysis show that implementing practicum with a semi-research pattern can improve students’ science process critical thinking skills, especially in planning experiments by 88.3% and critical thinking skills in evaluating by 82.3%.     Development of Mobile Learning integrated with Learning Management System (LMS) on Buffer Solutions Topic

    This research aims to develop mobile learning integrated with LMS and test its effectiveness motivation learning on the topic of buffer solutions. The research was conducted at SMA AL-HASRA from November 2020 to June 2021. The research and development method by Borg and Gall was used by modifying five stages, needs analysis; product development; validation; product testing; and implementation. Testing used quantitative method with post-test only control group design and analysis using independent sample t-test. The resulting mobile learning medium is called "LarutanPenyangga.apk" which is compatible with Android devices which provides summaries, video animations, kimi, quiz, and application buffer solutions in daily life. The feasibility test for topic and language resulted 82.25% with a reliability 0.975. The feasibility test for media 75.05% with a reliability 0.960. Trial test have very good criteria. The effectiveness test of motivation learning percentage is 68.4% and has a good category. Based on the t-test, obtained ttable < tcount. It can be concluded that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted, which means that there is a significant positive effect from the use of integrated mobile learning with LMS to increase students' learning motivation on buffer solutions topic

    Effectiveness of Conceptual Change Text in Reducing Acid-Base Misconceptions

    Students had difficulty understanding the acid-base concept because of its complex nature. This difficulty could lead to an acid-base misconception. One of the learning tools that can be used to overcome misconceptions was Conceptual Change Text. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Conceptual Change Text in reducing acid-base misconceptions. This study used one group pre-test post-test design with 18 Basic Chemistry II students at Billfath University. An acid-based diagnostic test determined students' misconceptions. The results showed there are nine and one misconceptions in pre-test and post-test, respectively. The application of the Conceptual Change Text was successful in reducing acid-base misconceptions with an effectiveness percentage of 97.76%

    Development of Functional Food Project Learning Tools for Food Chemistry Course

    This study aims to develop functional food project learning tools for the food chemistry course. This project learning tools consist of an implementation guide accompanied by a project appraisal rubric. The development of learning tools was based on the Dick and Carey model with three stages: needs analysis, development, and validation. The needs analysis shows an increase in non-communicable diseases in Indonesia and the world. Functional food has not been taught in food chemistry courses and the abundance of local food in Lombok Island with its various functional potency. The development stage involves designing project instructions accompanied by an assessment rubric. Two experts in food chemistry carried out the validation stage of the project learning tools. The instrument used was a questionnaire related to the suitability of the project objectives with the learning outcomes of food chemistry, the clarity of project-based learning syntax, the relevance of project topics to Lombok food, aspects of the language used, and an assessment rubric. The results show that all validated aspects are accepted with a few notes which have been further improved. Thus, the project learning tools can be used for functional food projects in food chemistry courses
