    EFL Teachers’ Strategies in Teaching Four Language Skills during Online Learning

    Abstract: Education has changed intensely whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. Challenges risen among the teachers to face the shifting mode of teaching from conventional to online activities. Hence, selecting the right strategy is needed to support the teaching activities. This research employed a multiple case study to determine how EFL teachers implemented strategies in teaching four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) during online learning. Three tools were applied in this research: Field Note, Interview and Archival Record Documents.Keywords: teaching strategy, language skill, online learningAbstrak: Pendidikan telah berubah secara dramatis dimana pengajaran dilakukan dari jarak jauh dan pada platform digital.     CHARACTER BUILDING IN ONLINE AND FACE-TO-FACE EFL CLASSROOMS IN JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: THE STRATEGIES AND CHALLENGES

    Abstract: This study aimed to scrutinize EFL teachers’ strategies and challenges of character building in online and face-to-face classrooms.  This case study involved two seventh grade English teachers as the subjects. The findings revealed that the teachers’ strategies of character building in seventh grade EFL classrooms were through the use of speech acts, modeling, rule reinforcement, and habituation. However, the strategies to use in the online and face-to-face classrooms were different. The challenges the teachers faced during the teaching and learning process were time allotment, the absence of English in some elementary schools, and  the zoning system.Keywords: character building, EFL classroom, junior high schoo

    THE EFFECTIVENESS OF VISUAL MEDIA IN INCREASING SELF-DEVELOPMENT ABILITY TOWARD CHILDREN WITH MILD MENTAL RETARDATION

    Abstract: This research aims to prove the effectiveness of visual media to improve self-development skills in children with mild visual impairment. The ability to do self-development is still low, so training requires a structured defense approach with visual media in picture cards. The research method used in this study is a class action. The class-action study intended by researchers is a group of children in the guesthouse Bhakti Luhur Malang Foundation in 4 children who have a mild visual impairment. The purpose of this study is the improvement and change in achieving more optimal results. The results showed an increase in scores. In the first cycle, the performance test results scored 62.5% and observation results of 60.2%. In the second cycle, the child's ability to inside by achieving a score of 77.7% and observation results of 79 %. Thus, it shows that a structured learning approach with visual media can increase self-development in lightly visually impaired children. Keywords: structured learning approach, visual media, self-development skills, lightly visually impaired children Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan efektivitas media visual dalam meningkatkan keterampilan pengembangan diri pada anak tunanetra ringan. Kemampuan dalam melakukan pengembangan diri masih rendah, sehingga pelatihan memerlukan pendekatan pertahanan terstruktur dengan media visual dalam kartu bergambar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tindakan kelas. Penelitian tindakan kelas yang dimaksud peneliti adalah sekelompok anak di Wisma Yayasan Bhakti Luhur Malang pada 4 anak yang memiliki gangguan penglihatan ringan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah perbaikan dan perubahan dalam mencapai hasil yang lebih optimal. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan skor. Pada siklus I, hasil tes kinerja mendapat skor 62,5% dan hasil observasi 60,2%. Pada siklus II kemampuan anak dalam dengan mencapai skor 77,7% dan hasil observasi 79%. Dengan demikian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan pembelajaran terstruktur dengan media visual dapat meningkatkan pengembangan diri pada anak tunanetra ringan.Kata kunci: pendekatan pembelajaran terstruktur, media visual, keterampilan pengembangan diri, anak tunanetra ringan

    Environmental Factors in the Production of Code-Switching in Pre-school Children: A Case study of Three Indonesian Children

    Abstract: The study investigates code-switching performed by three pre-school children in Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative research methodology with an exploratory case study. The participants of the study are three pre-school children who live in a small village in Banten Province in which two languages are exposed and spoken by the majority of people in that area namely Bahasa Indonesia as the national language and Sundanese as a vernacular language.     The Correlation Between Knowledge Level and Willingness to Receive COVID-19 Vaccine in School

    Abstract: In Indonesia, vaccination against COVID-19 has become a requirement for all educational institutions. The vaccine can help instructors, education staff, and students prevent the spread of COVID-19 in schools. However, a person's awareness and willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine might be influenced by a number of other circumstances. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between knowledge level and willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccination among students at MAS Ulumul Quran in Banda Aceh. The research was conducted using a mixed method, involving all students of MAS Ulumul Quran, Banda Aceh, totaling 260 students. The study concluded that there is no significant correlation between knowledge and willingness to receive COVID-19 vaccination in students of MAS Ulumul Quran in Banda Aceh. This can also be interpreted that the level of knowledge of students has no correlation with their willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccination.Key Words: Covid-19, knowledge, willingness, vaccination Abstrak: Di Indonesia, vaksinasi terhadap COVID-19 sudah menjadi keharusan bagi semua institusi pendidikan. Vaksin tersebut dapat membantu instruktur, tenaga kependidikan, dan siswa mencegah penyebaran COVID-19 di sekolah. Namun, kesadaran dan kesediaan seseorang untuk menerima vaksin COVID-19 mungkin dipengaruhi oleh sejumlah keadaan lain. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis hubungan tingkat pengetahuan dengan kesediaan menerima vaksinasi COVID-19 pada siswa MAS Ulumul Quran Banda Aceh. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode campuran, melibatkan seluruh siswa MAS Ulumul Quran Banda Aceh yang berjumlah 260 siswa. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan yang signifikan antara pengetahuan dengan kemauan menerima vaksinasi COVID-19 pada siswa MAS Ulumul Quran di Banda Aceh. Hal ini juga dapat diartikan bahwa tingkat pengetahuan siswa tidak memiliki hubungan dengan kesediaannya untuk menerima vaksinasi COVID-19.Kata Kunci: Covid-19, pengetahuan, kemauan, vaksinas

    SELF-REGULATED LEARNING SKILLS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS DURING ONLINE LEARNING DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    Abstract: The study aims to investigate the self-regulated learning skills of Primary School Teacher Education students during online learning and explore the relationships between each indicator in SRL skills. Descriptive analysis shows that students highly appreciate the assignments because of their intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. Nevertheless, students lack confidence, especially in mastering content that is complex. Most students have observed and managed the strategies in finding and learning information. The appreciation for tasks was positively correlated with confidence in learning as well as strategies in searching and studying information. Similarly, confidence in learning is positively correlated with strategies in searching and studying information. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keterampilan belajar mandiri siswa Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar selama pembelajaran online dan mengeksplorasi hubungan antara masing-masing indikator dalam keterampilan SRL. Analisis deskriptif menunjukkan bahwa siswa sangat menghargai tugas karena motivasi intrinsik dan ekstrinsik mereka. Meskipun demikian, siswa kurang percaya diri, terutama dalam menguasai materi yang kompleks. Sebagian besar siswa telah mengamati dan mengelola strategi dalam mencari dan mempelajari informasi. Apresiasi terhadap tugas berkorelasi positif dengan kepercayaan diri dalam belajar serta strategi dalam mencari dan mempelajari informasi.     THE DEVELOPMENT OF E-PORTFOLIOS MODEL FOR VALUE-ADDED ASSESSMENT FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHER EDUCATION

    Abstract: E-portfolios have been shown to be particularly effective in providing opportunities for students to tell their learning journey of their learning from beginning to end. In contrast to paper-and-pencil-based assessments, e-portfolios allow students to demonstrate the more actual knowledge, attitudes and skills that they acquired in their learning process. This article describes the development of an e-portfolio-for value-added assessment model for pre-service teacher education. The research employed the ADDIE model and involves three experts and 87 students of Non-formal Education Program Universitas Pattimura, Ambon and 122 Elementary Teacher Training Program Universitas Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, Lampung. Data were collected through questioners and checklists and were analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of this study showed that e-portfolios model was effective in asses students' learning achievement, tracking and measuring students’ progress as well as diagnosing deficiencies that require improvement.     KOMPAK (YOUTH COMMUNITY OF CARE AND ANTI POVERTY): YOUTH COMMUNITY ROLE TO ENCOURAGE THE UNDERPRIVILLAGED STUDENTS AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

    Abstract: KOMPAK (Youth Community of Care and Anti Poverty) is a youth community that help eradicate poverty. The community has a focus on learning and education.  This article describes the youth community role to encourage underprivillaged students in Bunulrejo Malang city.  This study aims to examine the role of youth community to empowering society’s education and citizens empowerment by KOMPAK (Youth Community of Care and Anti Poverty). This study used a qualitative approach with phenomenology design. Checking the validity of the data using the source triangulation method. The subjects of the study were community administrators, students, alumni and parents. The result of the study are as follows. The role of youth community are 1) financing of school fees for underprivileged students, 2) free tutoring for underprivillaged students and 3) career coaching for students. Whereas the citizens empowerment are 1) involving the citizens to become donors to the community, 2) helping to reduce poverty through educational and learning activities for underprivileged students, 3) the citizens and parent s felt helped and blissful because of all benefits given by this community.Keywords: youth community, youth empowerment, community role Abstrak: KOMPAK (Komunitas Pemuda Peduli dan Anti Kemiskinan) merupakan komunitas pemuda yang membantu pengentasan kemiskinan. Masyarakat memiliki fokus pada pembelajaran dan pendidikan. Artikel ini mendeskripsikan peran komunitas pemuda untuk mendorong siswa kurang mampu di kota Bunulrejo Malang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran komunitas pemuda dalam pemberdayaan pendidikan masyarakat dan pemberdayaan warga oleh KOMPAK (Komunitas Pemuda Peduli dan Anti Kemiskinan). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain fenomenologi. Pengecekan keabsahan data menggunakan metode triangulasi sumber. Subyek penelitian adalah pengurus masyarakat, mahasiswa, alumni dan orang tua. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut. Peran komunitas pemuda adalah 1) pembiayaan biaya sekolah bagi siswa kurang mampu, 2) bimbingan belajar gratis bagi siswa kurang mampu dan 3) pembinaan karir bagi siswa. Sedangkan pemberdayaan warga adalah 1) melibatkan warga untuk menjadi donatur bagi masyarakat, 2) membantu pengentasan kemiskinan melalui kegiatan pendidikan dan pembelajaran bagi siswa kurang mampu, 3) warga dan orang tua merasa terbantu dan bahagia karena semua manfaat yang diberikan ini. masyarakat.Kata kunci: komunitas pemuda, pemberdayaan pemuda, peran masyaraka

    Digital Games-Based Learning: An Innovative Language Learning in EFL Classroom by Utilizing Kahoot!

    Abstract: This study aims to explore students' perceptions of utilizing Kahoot! to learn a language in the EFL classroom. Data were gathered through interviews with six students from one of Tasikmalaya's high schools. In this study, a qualitative design by using a descriptive case study was used, and the data were dissected utilizing thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The findings re vealed that students' perceptions of utilizing Kahoot in the classroom were positive, towards students agreeing that the utilization of Kahoot in the classroom encouraged them to learn in a fun way rather than by sticking to the books. In addition, Kahoot could be a beneficial and remarkable tool that permitted the student to make classroom situations to be more interesting or to motivate and encourage students’ learning, it is also a platform relating to competition style in learning helped the students in sharpening their brain, improving their response time, and enabling them to learn topics that were difficult to understand. As a result, Digital Games-Based Learning by using Kahoot! is one of the innovations in learning a language in the EFL Classroom..Keywords: digital game-based learning, EFL classroom, kahoot Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali persepsi siswa tentang pemanfaatan Kahoot! untuk belajar bahasa di kelas EFL. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan enam siswa dari salah satu SMA Tasikmalaya. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif dengan menggunakan studi kasus deskriptif, dan data dibedah menggunakan analisis tematik (Braun & Clarke, 2006). Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa persepsi siswa tentang penggunaan Kahoot di kelas adalah positif, terhadap siswa yang setuju bahwa penggunaan Kahoot di kelas mendorong mereka untuk belajar dengan cara yang menyenangkan daripada terpaku pada buku. Selain itu, Kahoot bisa menjadi alat yang bermanfaat dan luar biasa yang memungkinkan siswa untuk membuat situasi kelas menjadi lebih menarik atau untuk memotivasi dan mendorong belajar siswa, juga merupakan platform yang berkaitan dengan gaya kompetisi dalam belajar membantu siswa dalam mengasah otak mereka. , meningkatkan waktu respons mereka, dan memungkinkan mereka mempelajari topik yang sulit dipahami.     SPEAKING PERFORMANCE AND GRAMMATICAL COMPETENCE ACROSS COGNITIVE LEARNING STYLES AND STRATEGY INVENTORY FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING (SILL)

    Abstract: The correlation between speaking performance and grammatical competence has been a debatable issue. It is also believed that cognitive learning styles and learning strategies are two of the many factors that influence students' language achievement. This study aims to see the relationship between the argumentative speaking score variable and the multiple choice grammar test on 30 students of Economics at STIE Malangkuceswara. The results showed that there was no significant correlation between speaking performance and grammatical competence between cognitive learning styles and the Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL). However in small differences, independent field students (FI) outperformed in speaking, whereas field-dependent students (FD) outperformed grammar competencies. Additionally, the study found that the students who scored higher on either the speaking or grammar tests used cognitive and meta-cognitive strategies more often than those who scored lower.Keywords: speaking performance, grammatical competence, cognitive learning style, field independent, field dependent, strategy inventory for language learning (sill)Abstrak: Korelasi antara kecakapan berbicara dan kemampuan bertata bahasa telah menjadi masalah yang masih diperdebatkan. Gaya belajar kognitif dan strategi belajar diyakini sebagai dua dari banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi nilai bahasa siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara nilai tes kecakapan berbicara argumentatif dan nilai tata bahasa dalam tes pilihan ganda yang didapatkan dari 30 mahasiswa Ilmu Ekonomi STIE Malangkuceswara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tidak ditemukannya korelasi yang signifikan antara kecakapan berbicara dan kemampuan tata bahasa bedasarkan gaya belajar kognitif dan Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL). Namun, terdapat perbedaan kecil dimana mahasiswa yang cenderung Field Independent (FI) unggul dalam berbicara, sedangkan mereka yang cenderung Field Dependent (FD) lebih unggul dalam tata bahasa.
