Issues in ASEAN Economic Community from Indonesian Perspective

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe ASEAN Economic Community(AEC), launched in 2015, concludes that eliminating tariffs on goods among 10 ASEAN countries is a pillar, but does not reach a strong regional agreement like the EU. Specifically, two symbolic goods, namely rice and sugar, are excluded from trade liberalization, and services and labor movements are also in progress of discussion among member countries. The AEC will be targeted for completion in 2025, but as of 2019 there are still many problems. In particular, ASEAN takes the principle of decision-making mechanism based on“non-intervention”and“consensus”, in which a true economic community will be difficult to be realized. This paper will also point out other problems to be solved, i.e., labor migration, diverse religions in the territory and the overseas Chinese.departmental bulletin pape

Business-university Collaboration in Search of a Place of Learning with Extended Social Interactions

    Get PDF
application/pdfUniversities are expected to play a role in society as a cultural resource which offers new ideas and values created through intellectual activities. However, it is concerning that such expectations are not fully met because the learning environment of Japanese universities tends to be homogenous and uniform. This paper addresses such lack of diversity by examining an action research project aimed at creating a space for stimulating new ideas and values through the collaboration between Wako University and a local restaurant/café business in Machida City, a suburb of Tokyo. The project developed an original learning program modelled on informal conversations in a living room or café. It was designed for students and the public to meet people with different backgrounds, listen to each other and share ideas and values. The keys to making this work were changing the contexts of learning and facilitating multi-directional exchanges among participants.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on Innovation Brought by Electronic Money : Switches from Cost in the Cashless Payments to Profit

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe aim of this paper is to examine innovations in which electronic money can convert costs in a company into profits. In Japan, cashless society is being promoted as a national policy. In 2020, the business environment of“ Corona( Covid-19) Epidemic” changed. This impact has further increased the role of cashless payments for companies. This is because Japan is promoting the role of measures against corona in payment methods by cashless payment. From the point of view of its widespread use, the merchant fees required for cashless payments are recognized as "costs". Business management will consider the need to constantly reduce costs. However, companies can convert this cost into revenue by issuing electronic money themselves. This is exactly the innovation that connects cost to profit. A typical example of this is Aeon. Therefore, a case study that deals with the case of this company is the focus of this paper.departmental bulletin pape
