Examining Structural Issues Related to Japan’s Sluggish Wage Growth Rate : An Empirical Analysis Using Bayesian Model and AI Simulation
application/pdfSince the 1990s after the collapse of the bubble economy, wages in Japan have been kept lower than in other developed countries. Japan’s international wage levels have declined significantly over the last 30 years. As of 2023, the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided and socioeconomic activities are beginning to recover. However, in the previous three years, a huge amount of money was supplied to the world market as an economic policy against COVID-19. Moreover, unforeseen events such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 have heightened global inflation concerns. Under these circumstances, Japan’s real wage index has been negative for 13 consecutive months as of April 2023. Life is getting tougher for working people in Japan. Why are wages in Japan, which produces the world’s third largest GDP, held so low compared to other developed countries? This paper attempts to analyze and discuss the wage growth rate in Japan, which has been kept low compared to other developed countries for the past 30 years, using a state-space model based on Bayesian theory and AI simulations. The state-space model clarified the effects of CPI, value-added, and retained earnings on the wage growth rate. We also attempted an AI simulation of future wage growth. As a result, we found that many Japanese firms have been suppressing labor costs and capital investment and increasing retained earnings in the absence of improvement in labor productivity. Furthermore, the study points out that many Japanese companies must transit to future-oriented management with an eye toward the transition to a new socioeconomic environment.departmental bulletin pape
An Interpretation of the Peace Reports of Learning in Okinawa by the Children of Wako & Wako-Tsurukawa Primary Schools
application/pdfAt Wako Primary School and Wako Tsurukawa Primary School, project-based peace studies on the theme of "Research on Okinawa" are conducted in the 6th grade of primary school. Primary school pupils engage in research on the "Battle of Okinawa," the only ground war experienced in Japan during the Pacific War, and the base problem in Okinawa where 70% of the U.S. military bases in Japan are located. There is a debate as to whether the purpose of these activities should be to "learn about the tragedy of war and rediscover the value of peace and life" or "to learn about Okinawa and how to live" in the sense of not merely learning knowledge. In this paper, we would like to identify issues in learning about Okinawa by examining the learning records of primary school pupils. We also explore the changes in learning when the witnesses are too old to hear their testimonies in person, and consider how to cope with those situations.departmental bulletin pape
Friends of Felix Guattari in Archipelagoes : Micro-Politics, Circle Movements, and Post-Media Activism in the Post War Japan
application/pdfFélix Guattari loved groupscules (small groups or fractions of some party and organizations) in his political philosophy in both his early days and ecosophy in his late work. ‘Subjectgroup’, groupuscules, and circles, unlike ‘subjugated group’, are constantly operative in the translocal context which Guattari could not have fully known in his life. This essay introduces some (potential) unknown friends of Guattari outside Europe, that is, Asia, especially in the post war Japan. It also examines how Guattarian activist philosophy, especially his ecosophy with three (virtual) ecologies is able to be compared with circle movements and its critical and theoretical perspective in the post war intellectuals of Japan.departmental bulletin pape
Food Culture in Ancient Greek Literature
departmental bulletin pape
Words Analysis : Student's Presentation for Their Career Design
departmental bulletin pape
Income Taxation, Growth, and Welfare in Times of Infrastructure Crisis : A Stochastic Growth Model with Public Capital
application/pdfIn times of infrastructure crisis, such as war or an earthquake, can income tax cuts increase growth rates and improve welfare? To answer this question, I develop a stochastic growth model with public capital. I show that income tax cuts are optimal only in countries with ex ante high income tax rates; in those countries only, they increase growth rates and improve welfare. Additionally, higher uncertainty lowers the optimal income tax rate, making income tax cuts more effective in the wake of the infrastructure crisis than in normal times. Thus, they potentially speed economic recovery following infrastructure disruptions.departmental bulletin pape
