application/pdfA 16-year-old boy was referred to the Department of Oral Surgery II, Matsumoto Dental College, for the treatment of a painless pulpoid polyp at the right mandibular first molar. Histopathologic findings from resected specimen showed that the polyp was surrounded by stratified squamous epithelium and that the neck was situated at the perforated portion of floor of pulp chamber and had been broken due to extraction. Root canal polyp in the distal root was covered with stratified squamous epithelium and did not connect with the polyp. It was diagnosed as periodontal polyp, based upon these histopathologic findings.journal articl

application/pdfUsing dogs' teeth tissue reactions to Formalin Guaiacol (root canal medicament) were studied by means of histopathology. Experimental teeth can be devided into following three groups; vital pulp (22 cases), pulpectomized root canal (12 cases) and infected root canal (46 cases). The results obtained were as follows: 1) Pulp reactions to the medicament were firstly circulatory disturbance such as hypermia and hemorrhage, secondly local necrobiosis and slight round cell infiltration, and lastly superficial necrosis. 2) Periodontal tissues did not show big changes but were involved in hypermia and round cell infiltration slightly. 3) Alveolar abscesses became coagulation at the area contacted with the medicament. 4) Root canal polyps also showed local coagulative necrosis. In summary, Formalin Guaiacol is considered to be extremely useful for root canal medication.journal articl

application/pdfThe authors conducted a survey of papers on porcelain and synthetic resins which appeared from 1915 to 1978 in 45 journals related to the subject. The journals surveyed were in the Matsumoto Dental College library. The results of the survey drew the following conclusions: 1) In the 45 jounals surveyed, the number of porcelain-related papers were found to have increased after the close of the war indicating a boom period. The year with the most number of papers related to porcelain was 1977, with 71 papers. 2) Seven journals were randomly selected from the above 45 journals and, of the 15,545 papers appearing in the seven journals, 326 or 2.1% were related to porselain and 313 or 2.0% were related to synthetic resins. Looking at fixed periods of time, papers on both porcelain and synthetic resins were noted to increase gradually after the war from about 1950. The most number of papers published in both areas was in the year 1978. In that year, 47 papers related to porcelain and 30 papers related to synthetic resins appeared in the seven journals surveyed. 3) When the papers were classified accoding to materials, papers on porcelain fused to metal jacket crowns and bridges were most numerous, followed by papers on porcelain jacket crowns, porcelain inlays and aluminous porcelain. 4) When the papers were separated into content of research, papers on methodology were most numerous, followed by papers on the physical aspects, 〓olor tone, level of adaptability, design and fractures.journal articl

application/pdfA 35-year-old man was referred to the Department of Oral Surgery I, Matsumoto Dental College, for the treatment of a painless tumor at the dorsal part of tongue. Although clinical diagnosis of the tumor was lipoma, histopathologic diagnosis from resected specimen was neurinoma (Antoni A-type), based upon the following findings; the palisade arrangement of nuclei of tumor cells and the tubercle formation named as Verocay body. Recent interior 45 cases of neurinoma of the tongue reported in Japan, including our own case, were carried out their clinical analyses.journal articl

application/pdfUsing 177 Indian mandibles, variations in the groove patterns on the occlusal surface of the lower premolar teeth were observed. 1) The groove patterns on the occlusal surface of the lower first premolar teeth were of the ᐠ ᐟ type in 65.4 percent of the cases, the U type in 16.7 percent, the H and Y type in 8 percent each and the V type in 2.1 percent. 2) The groove patterns on the occlusal surface of the lower second premolar teeth were of the H type in 39 percent of the cases, and the U and H type in 30 percent each. The frequency of the U type was greater in the Indian than in the Japanese, the Afghans and the Hawaiians. 3) The groove pattern on the occlusal surface of the right and left lower first premolar teeth in the mandibles were of the ᐠ ᐟ, ᐠ ᐟ type in 58 percent of the cases, the U, U type in 10 percent, the H, H type in 7 percent and the Y, Y type in 4 percent and those symmetrical types occurred in 79 percent. 4) The groove pattern on the occlusal surface of the right and left lower second premolar teeth in the mandibles were of the H, H type in 35 percent of the cases, the Y, Y type in 27 percent, and the U, U type in 25 percent and those symmetrical types occurred in 86 percent. 5) The groove pattern on the occlusal surface of the lower first and second premolar teeth in each side of the mandibles were the ᐠ ᐟ, H type in 27 percent of the cases. the ᐠ ᐟ, U type in 22 percent, the ᐠ ᐟ, Y type in 16 percent, theU, Y type in 7.7 percent, the U, H type in 5.1 percent and the U, U type in 3.9 percent. When the first premolar tooth is of the U type, the second premolar tooth is most frequently of the Y type, one of the 3 types of second premolar teeth.journal articl

Free Amino Acids and Related Compounds in the Fluid from Surgical Ciliated Cysts of the Maxilla

application/pdfFluids from 6 surgical ciliated cysts of the maxilla and autologous sera were analyzed for total free amino acids and related compounds concentrations. All of the amino acids present in the serum were observed in the cyst fluids, but the concentrations and profile of their constituents were markedly different from that of the serum. The concentrations of non-essential amino acids such as Ala, Glx, and Gly were extremely low in the cyst fluids. The composition and concentration of the amino acids and related compounds in the fluids of these cysts may reflect the balance between proteolytic and catabolic metabolism and also in the permeability effect of the lining cells of the cyst wall.journal articl

application/pdfIn this report, effects of length to setting and thermal expansions, (they were published by Yamane (1966) and Kozono (1971)) were elucidated by means of the dynamic stress analysis. Results were follows; 1. Setting expansion of the investment is prevented by casting ring and embedded wax pattern. The deformation of the mold is caluculated as the same as the elastic material's deformation, with thier Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio. 2. The thermal expansion (a) of the investment is influenced externaly by the preventions against setting expansion due to casting ring and embedded wax pattern. But it is determined by the following equation, when the investment is heated higher than 300℃. a=a_1+a_2a (f/f-β) -γ a; Thermal expansion modulus of the investment. a_1; Sum of thermal expansion caused with the refractory and the bonding material. a_2; Absolute value of difference between thermal expansion modulus of the refractory and that of the bonding material. a; Invariable number determined by the investment. f; Porosities observed between the refractory and the bonding material. β; Variation of porosities caused by some out side factors. γ; Shrinkage caused by dehydration, heating at 200℃.journal articl
