application/pdfA lesion appeared in the right mandibular region of a 60-year-old male was diagnosed possibly as a kind of malignant fibrous histiocytoma not only because of its histologic feature, but also of its clinical behavior. There known to be many variant classifications about these lesions and are not completely fabricated since there are different stand points of view of its tissue origin and of its ironical categolies subjected by many authors to be in. Our case was considered that where it belonged to the best position in the classifications. The clinical features of the lesion in the oral cavity were reviewed by the papers reported in Japan since 1967.journal articl

application/pdfUsing 29 teeth obtained from aged patients belonging 61-to 84-year-old, coronal sclerosed dentin and transparent root dentin were observed by optical, x-ray and electron microscopy both of transmission and scanning, and electron probe microanalysis both of wavelength dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. Results were as follows: 1. It was impossible to distinguish the peritubular matrix and the beginning of deposit in dentinal tubule by optical microscopy and microradiography. 2. In the coronal sclerosed dentin, the peritubular matrix and the closure of dentinal tubule were able to discriminate by electron microscopy. The peritubular matrix is not formed as a sclerotic age change but formed as a normal process, so these two are never confused. 3. Ultrastructure of intratubular deposits in the coronal sclerosed dentin could be devided following four types; rhombohedral, polyhedral sand-like, needle-like and minute granular crystals. The rhombohedral crystal was considered to be whitlockite. 4. The opaque sclerosed dentin consisted of the dentinal tubules filled with the crystals belonging the former three types, while the transparent sclerosed dentin, appeared rarely in the crown, was composed of the ones oblitrated by minute granular crystals. 5. In the transparent root dentin the tubule closures always consisted of minute granular crystals, so it may be called transparent sclerosed root dentin. 6. The closures of dentinal tubules both in coronal and root dentin had a property of acid-resistant. 7. Although the peritubular matrices and tubule closures in the trasparent root dentin were generally difficult to discriminate even by electron microscopy, when the ultrathin sections were treated with a weak acid the closures became to appear because the peritubular matrices were demineralized. 8. According to elementary analyses the intratubular deposits both in coronal and root dentin contained usually the elements of Ca, P, Mg, Na, S, Cl and K, and some time of Si, Sr and Ba. The element of F was showed only in the intratubular deposits in the coronal dentin. 9. The quantitaive analyses revealed that the tubule closures contained Ca and P with the same ratio as that of hydroxyapatite in abundance, and Na, Mg and S in a small quantity. These elements in the closures were all higher than those in the intertubular matrix.journal articl

application/pdfIn the previous study, Kumai (1981) found that pronounced reflex discharges are evoked in the hypoglossal nerve by an application of 1M NaCl, 0.5 mM quinine HCl or HCl at pH 2.5 on the frog tongue, but not by 1 mM CaCl2 or distilled water. Zotterman (1949) suggested that the water on the frog tongue reflexly keeps the mouth closed to reduce an obvious increase of the intake of water. If this is valid, reflex discharges should be evoked in the nerves innervating the elevator muscles as the masseter and temporal muscles. When the tongue was stimulated by tap water, no reflex discharge was evoked in the nerve innervating the masseter and temporal muslces. On the contrary, pronounced reflex discharges were evoked in the nerves innervating the submental and submaxillary muscles. This result indicates that the chemoreceptor sensitive to tap water in the frog plays a role in the nostril closing mechanism.journal articl

application/pdfFor the purpose of searching the origin of crystals in the dentinal tubules, firstly, the coronal sclerosed dentin of upper right incisor, obtained from a 75-year-old male, was observed by a scanning electron microscope and an electron probe microanalyser with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. Results were as follows: 1. The attrition surface was covered by a layer of smooth homogeneous deposits in about 8μ thick. 2. The intratubular structures were able to divided into crystals and fibers. 3. The crystals began to appear in the dentinal tubules from 30μ underneath the worn surface. No defferences of number and form of crystals were observed among the regions of dentinal tubules from underneath to near irritation dentin. 4. The intratubular crystals were classified into the following 10 types: rhombohedral, complex type, pyramid faces, step-like, plate-like, cuboidal, roundish edge, prismatic, minute granular and rod-shaped crystal. 5. The fibers within the dentinal tubules were collagen and odontoblast processes, and were both involved in calcium deposition. The former was mostly observed in the region between 0.75 and 1.60 mm from the attrition surface. 6. The surface layer of homogeneous deposits on the worn dentin contained the elements of Al, Si, P, S and Ca, while the subsurface of them only the ones of Mg, P and Ca. 7. The amount of Mg was highest in the intratubular deposits, middle in the peritubular matrix and lowest in the intertubular matrix.journal articl

application/pdfThe strain of the trabecular bone surrounding a blade-vent type endosteal implant was evaluated by means of wire strain gauges, when loading from various directions was applied to the head portion of the implant embedded in the mandibular bone of humankind (dried bone) and Japanese monkey. The vertical load on the implant created compression within the bone adjacent to the lateral surface of the implant. Furthermore, it was found that continual vertical loads created severe compression within the bone adjacent to the apical portion of the implant and inside of the vent. When the horizontal load was applied bucco-lingually to the implant, intense strains were found within the bone adjacent to the buccal and lingual surfaces of the implant. The loads created compression within the bone at the loading side, and distension within the bone at the tensive side of the implant. Especially at the tensive side, the distension of the bone was severe. When the horizontal load was applied mesiodistally to the implant, the compression or distension was revealed within the bone adjacent to the mesial and distal sides of the implant. Although distension of the bone adjacent to the neck of the implant was detected, there was no or little strain within the bone adjacent to the buccal and lingual sides and to the apical portion of the implant. These results indicate that the masticatory forces added to the implant denture should be transmitted nearly directly through the implant to the trabecular bone surrounding it. And moreover, it seems that in the construction of the implant denture the lateral forces of bucco-lingual direction should be considered very seriously, because the horizontal load applied bucco-lingually to the implant created intense strains within the bone adjacent to the buccal and lingual surfaces of the implant.journal articl

application/pdfThis time, an experiment was carried out using a model of the integral calculus globe in order to find the most fitting color for the inner wall of the clinic room. By repained inside the model nine times with each different color every time, the illuminance and the degree of fatigue after reading some books, the flicker value, were measured and its psychological effect and influence were investigated. 1) Regarding the illuminance of the operating position, the rutile type oxidized Titan industrial white color 2250 lx indicated the highest value and the violet 28 lx was the lowest. To give its order from high to low, the result was the following; the rutile type oxidized Titan industrial white color, the lemon yellow, the silver, the gold, the orange, the red, the green, the cobalt blue, and the violet. 2) The color which gave the least fatigue was the gold -0.02, next to the silver, the red, the orange, and no differences among the others were recognized. 3) A little difference were perceived in each color between the impressions of the samples and of experiment being conducted within the model. 4) The rutile type oxidized Titan industrial white color indicated high value on the diffused reflection and was the highest in the illuminance inside the integral calculus globe. Feeling nothing special in temperature and as the four persons did not have any particular impression on the white color, it may be considered that it is natural to fit for and, well be assumed that the feeling of its cleanliness given by that color is also the most suitable for a dental clinic room.journal articl

application/pdfFor trainig of dental specialists, an adequate test as a means to select students with aptitude has been claimed. In order to achieve such a test, some of the tests which have been used hither to were practiced on the students of Matsumoto Dental College, Dental Hygienist ↦ Technician School as testees, so as to find out the necessity of the correlation and consistency of the synthesis of these tests. The tests were (1) Technical test by carving a square plaster block, (2) Skill test in proportion to the MacQuarrie Test, (3) California Psychological Inventory (CPI) which was made to aim at a Character test. The details of the testees are: Dental Hygienist Class 1st Grade 35 2nd Grade 28 Dental Technician Class 1st Grade 22 2nd Grade 22 Total 107 In the Technical test (1), testees were asked to carve a prescribed column and trihedron on the top and bottom end of a plaster block of 15x15x100mm in size, within the time-limit of 60 minutes. Two methods were used for grading. One was the actual survey grade based on actual survey values, the other was totalized grade which based on grading the accomplishing ability. In the Skill test (2), testees were given a written, time limited test in order to survey their judgment capacity, operating capacity, accuracy, observation capacity and composing capacity. The judgment capacity, operating capacity and accuracy tests were graded according to prescriptions. The grading of observation and composing capacities were entrusted to specialists. The CPI (3) is a test to measure the testees' psycholosical stability, superiority, socialization, status, intellectual efficiency, interest pattern etc. The test consists of 480 question items which are divided into 18 standards and moreover, united into 4 standard groups. Each item was graded according to standards and prescriptions and average grades were calculated by synthesizing the standard groups. In order to see the relation between the total average grades of the three tests, C. Spearman's ranking correlation coefficient (ρ) was calculated. ρ=1-6 N Σ di^2 i=1/N^3-N, di=Xi-Yi Results: From these tests it was found that in technical abilities, minute accuracy did not improve much by education and training, However, total accomplishing ability did improve immensely by education. Skill ability had little relevancy with traning and education. In the CPI, some characteristics could be recognized according to each class and grade but the differences were very small. As for the correlation between the technical test and CPI, a positive contrary-correl-ation-tendency was acknowledged in the 1st graders, a negative contrary-correlation-tendency was acknowledged in the 2nd graders in both dental technician classes and dental hygienist classes. Between the Skill ability test and CPI, the following correlations could be acknow-ledged. (1) Dental Hygienist Class 1st Grade 2nd group (sociability, status, responsibility) 0.22 (2) Dental Hygienist Class 2nd Grade 4th group (degree of intellectual pattern and interest pattern) a low positive correlation of 0.30 (3) Dental Technician Class 1st Grade We could see comparatively high positive correlations in the following three groups and total. 1st group (degree of psychological stability, superiority and self-confidence) 0.40 2nd group 0.48 3rd group (degree of achievement ability and intellectual efficiency) 0.61 Total 0.56 4th group a low positive correlation of 0.29journal articl
