Get PDFapplication/pdfA new cephalometric X-ray analysis on functional class III malocclusion originated by the author was introduced in this paper, with a description of two cases of functional class III treated by an activator. A forced anterior displacement of mandible on this type of malocclusion was discussed to compare with each position of the mandible on habitual occlusion, centric relation and predicted mandibular position named "Corrected centric relation" on the previous study. A superposing of tracings of predicted position and treated position of mandible was studied. The results showed that this method was clinically useful to predict an accurate position of mandible.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfAs the first step, California Psychological Inventory (CPI) was practiced on the students of the Dental Hygienist and Technician School. This was done as the occupation requires good human relationships and also as it often demands a trustworthy character. The matter of what test to apply as a character test is still in dispute, but in this case the CPI was adopted. The testees were students of Matsumoto Dental College, Dental Hygienist and Technician School. Details are as follows: Dental Hygienist Class 1st grade 35 2nd grade 29 Dental Technician Class 1st grade 22 2nd grade 23 Teaching Staff 11 Total 120 The test was practiced simultaneously and took one hour. Method: There were 480 items on the question card and testees were asked to answer yes or no on answer sheets. The items were divided into 4 groups, 18 standards and these combined totally, showed the testees' attitude and conduct tendency in human relationship. The 4 groups survey the following items: Group 1 psychological stability, superiority, degree of selfreliance; Group 2 sociality, maturity, degree of responsibility; Group 3 achievement ability, intelectual ability; Group 4 intelectual pattern, interest pattern. Grading method: There was a grading sheet for each of the 18 standards. Each grading sheet was placed upon the answer sheet and the number of answers that fit into the grading sheet were written into grade list in each standard. These were separated into men and women profile sheets and each were converted into the grades of 18 standards according to the grade conversion table. The grades of each individual were made into graphs. Using the standards of these graphs as a basis, the characteristics of each individual's conduct were surveyed according to the CPI 18 standards of the character tendency list and from here, the individual's total character was imagined. The x^^- (average), σ (standard deviation) and C (coefficient of variation) of the class were statistically found out. Design: In the results of Hygienist Class 2nd Grade, Flexibility (Fx) was the highest, followed by Socialization (So), Good Impression (Gi), Self-control (Sc), Achievement via Independence (Ai), Feminity (Fe), Communality (Cm) showed the lowest value, followed by Capacity for Status (Cs), Achievement via Conformance (Ac). As for Hygienist Class 1st Grade, Fx was highest, followed by So, Ai, Fe, Cm was the lowest followed by Cs, Dominance (Do), Ac. In the case of Technician Class 2nd Grade, Fx was highest, followed by Fe, Gi. Cm was the lowest, followed by Sense of Well Being (Wb), Responsibility (Re), Cs. As in Technician Class 1st Grade, Fx was highest followed by Fe. Wb was lowest followed by Re, Intellectual Efficiency (Ie), Ac, Do, Cs. The Teaching Staff Men showed high values in Gi, Do, Psychological-mindeness (Py), low values in Cm and Re. Teaching Staff Women showed high values in Fx, Ai, So, Py and low values in Wb, Cm. Altogether the Teaching Staff showed higher values than the students.The Teaching Staff possess a sensitive observation ability which students lack, and their characteristic is that they are sensitive in perceiving the feelings and inner desire of others. Taking a perspective view, Fx showed high values and Cm low values. This indicates that they have a sheet insight, are self-confident, have humor, and are comparatively interested in individual passtimes and diversions. They have a tendency to be a little egoistic and arbitrary, are crafty to other, possess inner frustration, and their ideas are customary conventional and their vision a little limited. As for responsibility, diligence, honesty, sincerity, Hygienist Class and Teaching Staff showed higher values.journal articl

I was engaged in the instruction of the dental treatment for the severely handicapped patients, in response to the request by the Welfare Ministry. Dental treatment for the severely handicapped patients has always been very defficult. But recently, by using general anesthesia it has been able to give them adequate dental treatment. The Okinawa Dental Association started the project of the intensive dental treatment for such patients under general anesthesia with support and cooperation of Okinawa Prefecture, the Welfere Ministry, and the Japanese Dental Society of Anesthe-siology.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfInactivation of staphylococcal bacteriocin (staphylococcin) by bacteria isolated from human dental plaque was investigated. Dental plaque was introduced into brain heart infusion (BHI) broth containing staphylococcin, followed by incubation, resulted in decrease of staphylococcin activity, as compared with the control without dental plaque. Staphylococcin activity was depressed also when the dental plaque was inoculated onto BHI agar plates which had been inoculated previously with staphylococcin producer strain (Staphylococcus aureus IYS-2) and its appropriate indicator strain and subsequently incubated. In this way, 14 strains which inhibited staphylococcin activity were isolated from the dental plaque of three individuals. These strains were found to have similar biological properties each other and were identified as Bacterionema matruchotii. The authentic B. matruchotii strains (strain ATCC 14266 and #13) demonstrated also the same inhibitory activity against staphylococcin. However, this activity was never found in another bacterial species from dental plaque, as far as screened. The inhibitory substance in the cell-free extracts of the isolated strains was precipitated by addition of ammonium sulfate at 70% saturation. It was undialyzable and inactivated by heating at 70℃ for 10 min, indicating this substance is proteinaceous.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfThe effect of sodium arsenite on drug-metabolizing enzymes in rat liver was studied in vivo and in vitro. In the in vitro study, aminopyrine demethylase, hexobarbital oxidase and aniline hydroxylase were all inhibited when sodium arsenite was added to the incubation mixtures. In the in vivo study, when rats were ingested sodium arsenite in their drinking water for a month, it was observed that the quantity of drinking water was decreased against the increase of arsenic concentration. The maximam intake of arsenic from drinking water was 9mg/kg/day. Body weight and liver-body weight ratio were rather increased in low arsenic concentration, but they were decreased in high concentration. The three of drug-metabolizing enzymes were inhibited as well. The inhibition was stronger in vivo under the same arsenic concentration.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfThis clinical study examined, on clinical success, the influence of excess pealers and/or overextended gutta-percha points beyond the radiographic apex or root surface. The long-term follow-up was also done on excess sealers and overextended gutta-percha points. The cases (root canals) examined were the same cases as reported previously in the Matsumoto Shigaku (the Journal of Matsumoto Dental Callege Society) (Vol. 6), entitiled "Clinical success of endodontically treated teeth." The results were as follows: 1. 92.8% (220 canals) out of the cases without excess sealers and overextended gutta-parcha points, 89.8% (53 canals) out of the cases with excess sealers, 84.3% (129 canals) out of the caseh overeutended gutta-parcha points were considered successful. Statistical analysis of healing at the cases without excess sealers and overextended gutta-percha points and the cases with overextended gutta-percha points yielded significance (α=0.02). 2. Excess sealers were absorbed as time went by, and almost disappeared at the end of 2 years postoperatively. There were no relationships among size of excess sealers, absorbed rate of exsess sealers and age of the patients. 3. The fracture of overextended gutta-percha points occurred on 7 of 153 cases in the follow-up period. The overextended gutta-percha points of all these 7 cases were fractured at the radiographic apex root surface. All of them were successful. There was a tendency that the longer the overextended gutta-parcha points were the more fractured. It seemed that the fracture of overextended gutta-percha points were caused by the physiological movement of teeth.journal articl

Get PDFapplication/pdfAs a result of repeated experiments, it is clear that within the integral calculus globe, it is possible to obtain a homogeneous light which causes the least fatigue. After four persons had read some books for one hour per person inside the integral calculus globe clinic room, their degree of fatigue were measured by using the flicker fatigue-measuring instrument. Preceding this experiment, the four testees were tested three times daily, that is, every morning, daytime and night, by this flicker fatigue-measuring instrument for ten days, in order to know the type of their most efficient working hours, namely: morning-type, night-type etc, before the experiment was commenced. 1) The illuminance within the integral calculus globe clinic room model was 1950～2300lx between 0～40cm. The average illuminance at the position of 30cm was 2180lx. 2) The illuminance within the clinic room was 1720lx when all circuits are on, 1026lx in D_+Daylight source of light, 1310lx in A source of light+Daylight source of light, 1270lx in A source of light+D_. 3) The average standard deviation of flicker values were: Example A 0.99, Example B 0.95, Example C 1.18, Example D 1.38. Within the integral calculus globe clinic room model, there was no difference in fatigue before and after the operation. 4) The flicker value of one-hour reading within the integral calculus globe clinic room when the source of light was all circuit, D_+Daylight, A Light+D_, was +1.0～-1.2. This shows that 〓 difference is -0.3 and proves little degree of fatigue. Compared to this, when reading is done on an office desk with just one source of light, the value is -0.5～-2.5, which means that the average difference is -1.0. This indicates a strong fatigue when reading is done on an office desk. As a result of this, we may well assume that the integral calculus globe clinic room cause less fatigue.journal articl
