application/pdfFor the purpose of serchirg the origin of the intratubular deposits in the coronal sclerosed dentin, the deposits were compared with dental calculus and salivary stone by a scanning electron microscope and electron probe microanalysers with energy and wavelength dispersive x-ray spectroscopies including the contour map method. Results were as follows: 1. The layer of minute crystals covered on the attrition surface contained the elements of Na, Mg, Al, P, S, Cl, Ca, Mn, Fe, Zn, Br. 2. The rhombohedral crystals in the dentinal tubules contained the elements of F, Na, Mg, P, S, Cl, Ca. 3. The hypo-and hyper-calcified areas and leptothrichia, whether calcified or not, were observed on the dental calculus. An analysis on the surface layer showed that it contained the elements of F, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, K, Ca, Zn. Mg had a tendency to increase in hypocalcified area. 4. On the fractured surface of dental calculus, the stratified stractures, calcified leptothrichia, plate-like crystals and hexagonal cuboidal crystals were observed. These consisted of the elements of Na, Mg, Si, P, S, Cl, Ca, Zn. The crystals were much abundant in Mg. 5. A lamella stracture, indeterminate and hexagonal crystals, and rod-shaped stractures were observed on the surface of salivary stones. The elements of these surface stractures were Na, Zn, As, Br, In, Sn, Pb. 6. The stratified stractures being composed of hypo-and hyper-calcification, minute granular, rod-shaped, plate-like and globular crystals were seen on the fractured surface of salivary stones and contained the elements of F, Na, Mg, Al, P, S, Cl, Ca, Cr, Cu, As, Se, Pd, In, I, Au, Hg, Pb. The hypocalcified area was much abundant in S. 7. According to the contour map of dental calculus with the teeth, dental calculi were more abundant in P and Ca than cementum and dentin. The contour map showed that the Ca contents and the stratified stractures closely correlated. 8. The contour maps showed more clearly than x-ray images that the contents of P, S, and Ca and the stratified stractures correlared. 9. The elements of intratubular deposits in the coronal sclerosed dentin were considered to come from saliva because the stracture and elements of crystals reratively resembled to those of dental calculi.journal articl

application/pdfIn the observation of the lateral lingual foramina (A small unnamed foramen mentioned by Shiller and Wiswell in '54) and the small foramina inside of the premolar and molar of 141 mandibles of Indians, the following results were obtained: 1) Number of the small foramina: The number of the small foramina on the lingual side of the premolar and molar of the mandible with third molar were most frequently 2 in 15%, followed by 5 in 13%. The largest number was 18 and average number was 4.62. In mandibles with the third molar, the number was somewhat less, 3.79 on average. The number of small foramina inside of the premolar were most frequently 1 in 36%. The largest number was 7 and the average number, 1.53. The number of the lateral lingual foramina in the premolar region below the mylohyoid line were most frequently 1, in 43%, followed by 2 in 25%. The largest number was 6, and the average number, 1.34. The number of the small foramina in the premolar region alone were not intimately related with the presence or absence of the third molar. 2) Number of the small foramina and the positions: The small foramina in the mandible with the third molar were 29% below P_1, 35% below P_1-P_2, 38% below P_2, 30% below P_2-M_1, 43% below M_1, 35% below M_1-M_2, 36% below M_2, 34% below M_2-M_3 and 41% below M_3. They were more frequently found in the molar than premolar region. 3) Size of the small foramina: The size of the small foramina on the lingual side of premolar and molar teeth of the mandible with third molar were most frequently 0.15mm in 47%, followed by 0.25mm in 33% and 0.35mm in 10%, indicating a fall along with the increase in size. The largest size was 1.25mm, and the average size was 0.24mm. The size of the small foramina of the mandible lacking the third molar located in the mandibles with third molar were similar. The size of the small foramina located in the premolar region of madnibles with third molars were 0.15mm in 30%, 0.25mm in 29% and the average size was 0.32mm. The size of the lateral lingual foramina were most frequently 0.15mm in 29%, followed by 0.25mm in 28%. The largest size was 1.25mm and the average size was 0.33mm. Relatively large foramina were found in this region. 4) Size and position of the small foramina: On the right side of the mandible with the presence of the third molar, the average size was 0.38mm below P_1, 0.33mm below P_1-P_2, 0.31mm below P_2, 0.26mm below P_2-M_1, 0.21mm below M_1, 0.22mm below M_1-M_2, 0.20mm below M_2, 0.21mm below M_2-M_3 and 0.22mm below M_3. On the right side of the mandible lacking the third molar, the aberage size of the foramina was 0.35mm below P_1, 0.43mm below P_1-P_2, 0.24mm below P_2, 0.29mm below P_2-M_1, 0.22mm below M_1, 0.20mm below M_1-M_2 and 0.21mm below M_2.journal articl

application/pdfTwo cases of lipoma were reported in the present study. The first case was found in the muscle layer of the right tongue margin of a 62-year-old male, and was bluntly dissected from the surrounding structures. The second was in a polyp-like from originated from the soft palate of a 56-year-old female, and was severed at the base of the pedicle including some palatal muscles. In both cases neither recurrence nor functional disorder was noticed after the extirpation. In addition to above, some reviews of literatures on lipoma were carried out.journal articl

application/pdfMucopolysaccharide lyases in the cell extract from a oral strain of Bacteroides sp. produced △4, 5-unsaturated disaccharides from the several substrates including, heparan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate A (ChS-A), chondroitin sulfate C (ChS-C), hyaluronic acid and chondroitin by the elimination reaction. However this enzyme preparation did not degrade chondroitin sulfate B (ChS-B). As for production of heparinase, the presence of heparin in the culture medium was essential. These enzymes were separated into two substrate specific groups upon gel filtration on a Sephadex G-200 column. One catalyzed the degradetion of ChS-A, ChS-C, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin. The other catalyzed heparin and heparan sulfate. Heparinase, which was partially purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation and hydroxylapatite column chromatography, degraded heparan sulfate besides heparin, but ChS-A, ChS-B, ChS-C, hyaluronic acid and chondroitin were undigestive by this preparation.journal articl

application/pdfAlthough the shade taking is important in the prosthetic dentistry, it has been choosed according to the color sense and the experience of the dentist. Therefore it is quite probable that the choice would cause the difference of the colors. Then, the shade taking was experimented on the persons within the integral calculus globe clinic room, and the shade guide and the teeth were measured by using the instrument-ie, Dental Color Analyzer, produced by Nakagawa Production. The results were compared with the shade taking within the clinic room. As the result of this investigation, it was indicated that two or three of the four persons agreed with one another in the value of the measurement with the naked eye, however, the minimum value of AE and the value of the measurement with the naked eye showed no relationship. The difference between the natural teeth and the shade guide was so great that a question whether the shade guide was fitted or not for a Japanese was occurred. The color of teeth consists of the one of the enamel and the dentin underneath, the figure of the teeth, the diffused reflection caused by the minute structure of the surface, the brilliance and the wet condition within the mouth. All of these investigations indicate that it will be necessary for us to perform the shade taking in such a room as the conditions are as well prepared as in the integral calculus globe clinic room by the dentist who has accumulated experience and has a sharp sense in color, and to experiment it taking heed of the structure of the surface of the porcelain in the final stage to produce prosthesis with the use of the technics of the stain and the glaze.journal articl
