Purification and Partial Characterization of Leucine Aminopeptidase from Actinomyces viscosus

    Get PDF
application/pdfLeucine aminopeptidase was purified from cell-free extracts of Actinomyces viscosus ATCC 19246 and some properties were investigated. The enzyme had a molecular weight of 65,000 and its isoelectric point was 4.0. Optimum pH was found at 7.0. The enzyme was quite labile over 40℃. It was sensitive to inhibition by diisopropylfluorophosphate, phenylmethane sulfonylfluoride, or tosyl-L-lysine chloromethyl ketone. Inhibition by urea was also obvious and this inhibition was found to be irreversible. Ca^, Mg^, Mn^ or Co^ had no no effect on the activity. Leucine-P-nitroanilide was the most suitable substrate among the tested synthetic substrates.journal articl

    カエル口腔反射の神経機構 : 1.閉口反射および舌反射でみられる単シナプス性反射

application/pdfIn order to reveal neural mechanism of oral reflexes in the frog, we studied the reflex discharges of jaw-closing muscles or efferent nerves, and of the hypoglossal nerve elicited by electrical stimulation of the trigeminal, facial and glossopharyngeal nerves, and found that the main reflex discharges were sometimes preceded by a reflex discharge with short latency. Since the central delay of the reflex discharges with short latency, obtained by reducing conduction times in both the efferent and afferent nerves from the reflex latency, were less than 1 msec, the pathway of the reflex seemed to be monosynaptic. To make sure of this possibility, we studied unit discharges of trigeminal motoneurons by means of glass microelectrode recording, and found that some motoneurons elicit an action potential or an EPSP with short latency. These results indicate that some of the jaw-closing and tongue reflex pathways are monosynaptic.journal articl

Effects of Sodium Fluoride on Frog Heart Motility

    Get PDF
application/pdfEffects of sodium fluoride (NaF) on the bullfrog heart were investigated. NaF (10 mM) inhibited the autonomic heart contraction, reducing the heart rate. This inhibitory action was recovered by per fusion with 2-Ca^ Ringer's solution. The twitch tension of auricular muscle was reduced by 2 mM NaF as well as 1 mM sodium oxalate and low-Ca^ Ringer, but the latter two were less effective than the former. However, NaF (5 mM) induced a rise in resting tension similar to that in the case of DNP application. ATP, adrenaline, and theophylline all reversed the inhibitory action of NaF, while both DNP and iodo acetic acid promoted it. NaF (5 mM) decreased the tension of Na^+-deficient contracture. The results obtained suggest that the reduction in the heart motility by NaF might be caused by the following mechanism : Inhibition of Ca^ influx into the myocardial cell as a result of both decrease in the extracellular Ca^ concentration and inhibition of ATP production and the Na^+-Ca^ exchange.journal articl

application/pdfTwo root canal filling materials, consisted chiefly of calcium hydroxide and iodoform, "Calvital" and "Vitapex" were used to the teeth of a 78-year-old man and an 82-year-old woman respectively. One or two years later these teeth with alveolar bone were resected from the patients died, and observed histopathologically. 1. These human materials especially periapical tissues to which applied "Calvital" and "Vitapex" were thought to be the first cases examined histopathologically. 2. In 6 "Calvital" cases, 3 cases with enlargement and cleaning of the root canals before filling showed a good healing, and 1 case with the same treatment was nearly good, but 2 cases without this root canal treatment showed not so good. 3. The "Vitapex" case was only one, in which the root canal filling was carried out after the pulp extripation. The apical foramen was closed by an osteoid hard tissue, meaning a success healing. 4. In this "Vitapex" case, the patient was old and laid up with illness soon after the filling. Therefore this success healing may be suggested that "Vitapex" is excellent for root canal filling and that the cells in periodontal ligament of such an aged patient still have a capacity of differentiation to osteoblasts or.cementoblasts. 5. Clinically it may be noticed that in the radiograph the disappear of radiopaque materials in the root canal does not mean disappear of calcium hydroxide but of iodoform.journal articl

    Thomas BartholinのAnatomia Reformataにおける顎骨と歯牙の記載について

application/pdfThomas Bartholin revised his father's anatomical treatise "Anatomicae Institiones" , it was called "Anatomia Reformata" which was used widely as typical textbook of anatomy in Europe during 17th century. Recently, as it was reproduced in Japan, the anthor translated into Japanese about chapters of maxillary bone and teeth in "Anatomia reformata". In views of these chapters, the anthor had a knowledge regarding level of anatomical study on the maxillary bone and teeth in the mid 17th century, especially payed attention to that he quoted from new findings of tooth-growth by famous anatomists Fallopio and Eustachio.journal articl
