application/pdfIn order to reveal the influence of laboratory temperature on the properties of phosphate bonded investment, the setting time, calorific values and the setting expansion were measured in CERAVEST and CERAMI-GOLD, which have been compounded with different refractory powder in sharps and sizes at 16℃, 23℃, and 30℃ under 50% humidity. And then, the structure of mold cavity wall was observed and the component elements of the wall were analysed by the X ray micro-analyser. Results were as follows; 1) Generaley, the setting time were increased as the laboratory temperature decreased. Setting time of CERAVEST and CERAMI-GOLD investments were 22 minutes and 10 minutes at 16℃. 2) With a rise in room temperature, the calorific value and the setting expansion were increased, and the crystal structure, which has constituted to cavity wall, became fine. CERAVEST had higher calorific value and larger setting expansion than CERAMI-GOLD. 3) The time required to achieve the maximum setting expansion was shorter with CERAVEST than with CERAMI-GOLD.journal articl

application/pdfThe purpose of the present study was to compare the histological response between aluminumoxidate (Al_2O_3) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) ceramics implants. Adult dogs received both Al_2O_3 and HAP ceramics implants at mandibular premolars (P_2 and P_3) just after the removal of the natural premolars, and were sacrificed one or three months after implantation. The tissues surrounding the implants were studied by radiography and light microscopy. The results of the present study were summarized as follows. 1) At one month after implantation, a rapid formation of new bone was observed in the surrounding tissues both of Al_2O_3 and HAP ceramics implants. 2) At three months after implantation, all of the surfaces of HAP ceramics implants was covered with the new bone which became compact bone. In Al_2O_3 ceramics implants, however, a small amount of fiberous connective tissue was detected in the boneimplant interface. 3) Histological examinations of the soft tissues surrounding the post of both Al_2O_3 and HAP ceramics implants showed no chronic inflammatory cells.journal articl

A Study of Criteria for Arrangement of Teeth and Shape of Posterior Residual Ridges by Moiré Topography

application/pdfThe aim of this work was to clarify by Moiré topography the morphological criteria for arrangement of teeth. The alveolar crest line and alveolar crest zone were defined by Moiré topography photographs from 139 upper edentulous stone casts and 20 upper and lower casts which were mounted to articulators. From the results the overlap area between upper and lower alveolar crest zones was classified into 6 types. It is suggested that the overlap areas and the angle between interalveolar lines are very useful as criteria for posterior tooth arrangement in clinical procedures.journal articl

application/pdfThrough Dr. Shinzo Watanabe who was a pioneer in dentistry, I would like to analyse the records of examinations in his posthumozs works to seek an image of dentists in the Meiji Era. Since there were no insurance systems in those days, every medical examination was a general exarination-meaning that patients had to be examined without insurance. However Dr. Watanabe set up rough standards to help every patient pay the fee for a medical examianation equally and at the same rate. As for the conditions of practice, 432 patients were examined in the frist year alone from which he earned 1413 yen as his income. His income increased year by year so that after 15 years it had increased 8.5 times his stating salary. That was partly because the number of dentists was not so large compared with today, and the same thing can be said for the nomber of decayed teeth. In addition, it seems that Dr. Watanabe was very popular among his patients. It is interesting that in his documents he had less patients in February and December, and that he could earn much more money when fewer patients came. It seems the same way for todays dentists.journal articl

application/pdfA study was made of 1585 crowns and 361 bridges which had been fabricated for 753 patients at the Prosthetic Clinic of Matsumoto Dental College from January through December 1983. Some of the results were as follows: 1) Of patients, 44.09% were males and 55.91% were females. 2) 89.11% of the patients were between 20 and 59 years old. 3) Crowns for the upper abutment teeth were more abundant than for the lower abutment teeth. 4) Of crowns, 65.80% were fabricated full cast crowns; and 5) 86.94% were fabricated for non-vital teeth. 6) Of bridges, 77.01% were fabricated as 3-unit bribges; and 7) 83.93% were fabricated as 1-pontic bridges. 8) Bridge retainers for the lower anterior segment numbered less than for the other segments. 9) Of bridge retainers, 67.25% were fabricated as full cast crowns; and 10) 49.37% were fabricated for vital teeth. 11) Of pontics, 47.75% were replaced for the lower molar segment. 12) In the comparison with similar observations in 1974, 1977 and 1980, the number of patients, crowns, and bridges sharply increased.journal articl
