application/pdfWe had 10 cases of temporomandibular arthrosis which were divided into groups: (A) cases in which there was no articular noise, (B) cases in which articular noise occured on one side, and (C) cases in which articular noise occurred on both sides. In all the cases, we examined the maximal aperture measurement and M. K. G., notch and articular noise, and pain in muscles and temporomandibular joints. Using X-ray photography, we also observed the position of the condyl inside the fossa. The results indicate that all these groups have common characteristics. These characteristics may become clearer when more cases are experienced. The important thing in the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular arthrosis was thought to be the examination by fixed inspection techniqes, and to cure the arthrosis using treatment plans. By treatments using the 1st to 5th methods, 9 out of 10 cases were completely cured, and in the other one case, the symptons have presently been halted.journal articl

application/pdfThe use of a dental surveyor for fabrication of restorations is very important in successful prosthodontic treatment. The authors designed and developed a new dental surveyor which is defferent from conventional one. Some peculiarities are as follows: 1. Since it is able to survey the diagnostic cast and/or working cast with an analyzing rod, dentists may plan the effective diagnosis and treatment. 2. As the survey line disappears as time proceeds, it is possible to survey the cast repeatedly for analyzing the path of insertion. 3. It is possible to survey the cast and the measurement of undercut for placement of the clasp tip simultaneously with one of the undercut gauges. 4. The placement for clasp tip can be determined exactly by simply touching the cast with an undercut gauge. 5. The survey line can be corrected without damage to the cast.journal articl

application/pdfA case of florid papillomatosis which appeared in the region between the labial gingiva of maxillary incisal part and the palatal mucosa in a 56-year-old woman, was reported. Although the clinical features of this case conveyed the impression that it was a malignant tumor, pathologic examination revealed dyskeratosis of the acanthotic layer, the elongation of rete pegs, and papillomatous proliferation of epithelial cells without malignant nature. The tumor was widely excised after extraction of the central and lateral incisors on both sides. No recurrences have been noted for two years after the surgical procedure.journal articl

application/pdfThe composition of the shape memory implat is Ni50at%-Ti. It has been reported by many authors that the formation of bone around this material is satisfactory in vivo and it is harmless in vitro. The operative technique of shape memory implant is as easy as the usual blade implant. Moreover, the occlusal supporting force increased extremely by shape memory effect. And the indications of dental implant will be developed by the non-anatomic occlusal form, which we used to the super-structure of shape memory implant, because of its excellent masticatory efficiency. As a result of clinical evaluation of this system, it is possible to indicate many types of edentulous cases, and is excellent in coparison with the usual endosteal implant.journal articl

application/pdfA statistical study was made of 514 crowns and 107 bridges which had been fabricated for 318 patients at the Prosthetic Clinic of Matsumoto Dental College from January through December 1977. Some of the results were as follows: 1) Of patients, 47.17% were males and 52.83% were females; and 2) 89.63% belonged to between 20-year-old and 50-year-old groups. 3) Crowns for the lower premalor segment were the most in number among the six segments. 4) Of crowns, 71.40% were fabricated as full cast crowns; and 5) 17.51% were fabricated for vital teeth. 6) Of bridges, 84.11% were fabricated as three-unit bridges; and 7) 88.79% were fabricated as one-pontic bridges. 8) Bridge retainers for the premolar segment were the most in number among the six segments. 9) Of bridge retainers, 74.12% were fabricated as full cast crowns; and 10) 66.23% were fabricated for vital teeth. 11) Of pontics, 37.70% were replaced for the lower molar segment. 12) In the comparison with the observation in 1974, it was shown that number of patients increased by about 2.7 times. 13) The number of crowns increased by about 2.2 times that of 1974. 14) The number of bridges showed an increase of about 2.3 times campared with the study in 1974.journal articl

application/pdfIn recent developments of dental meterials science, variable new or improved materials have been used for crown restorations. They include metals, ceramics, polymers and their composite materials. Dental alloys are classified into four types of gold alloys, gold palladium-silver system alloys, silver-tin or indium alloys, chromium-nickel system alloys and chromium-cobolt system alloys for crown and bridge work. Dental porcelains and resins that include vinyl acrylics or dimethylacrylate, are used to provide jacket crowns and fusing or facing for crowns and bridges. Porcelain fused to metal restorations have been produced with several types of alloys containing precious metal or non-precious metal. Amalgams, silicate cements, un filled self-curing resins, composite resins and glassionnomer cements are available as filling materials. Properties of crown restorative materials are desirable to simulate densities, specific heats, thermal conductivities, co-efficients of thermal expansion, compressive, tensile and bending strength and modulus of elasticity of the enamel or dentine. They must also be safe to corrosion, tarnish, and solubility, and to be tissue compatibilities. From the standpoint of dental materials science, for crown restorations, composite resins should be used for class III and class V restorations, and precious metal system alloys fused with porcelain should be prepared on front teeth where esthetic appearance is of primary importance. In molars, the restoration should be provided with gold alloys or gold-palladium-silver system alloys. Lately, Composite resins have been applied on class II and class IV restorations and chromium-nickel system alloys have been used widely to prepare crown restoration. But the former are one third and the latter are three times the elastic modulus of enamel. Both are incapable of withstading the strain to enamel caused by mastication. It seems to effective that properties of restorative material are as similar to those of tooth structure. While the material has been decided on due to economical reason in many dental clinics, it must be applied from the standpoint of materials science.journal articl

application/pdfA case of acute suppurative parotid space infection in a 68-year-old female is presented. The etiology of this case was the accidental cannulation of foreign bodies of the left parotid duct, initiating the obstruction-infection cycle in the parotid space. Discharged foreign bodies were identified as "Pennisctum japonicum Tririus", i.e.a kind of weed. A possible foreign body should be considered one of causes in the diagnosis and treatment of unexplainable and/or prolonged infection of the oral and maxillofacial regions.journal articl

application/pdfThe authors have treated two patients (Case I : 68-year-old woman and Case II:48-year-old man), having defects part of the mandibule by partial ectomy because of ameloblastoma and malignant tumor of tongue respectively. The facial form and oral function of the patients were restored by dentures for their mandibular defect, using a Swing Lock Attachment in Case I , a part of hinge joint in Case II. But, a little unsatisfactory result was remained, such as the regio-submandibularis form in Case I and the swallowing desturbance in Case II. Then, the authors considered that there were necessities to improve prosthetic treatment methods and the quality of the material.journal articl
