application/pdfThe surface roughness of castings which had been produced with various high fusing alloys was studied. They had been related with roughness of mould cavity walls and pattern surface, and affected by heating the mould and casting. The results are as follows; 1. Surface roughness of mould cavity walls was reproduced with the surface of pattern, but that was influenced by particle size of refractory in the investment products. 2. Wall surface of mould cavity was the less smoothed, by heating the mould lower. 3. Surface roughness of castings was so reduced, as lowering the mould temperature. 4. Castings surface was roughened partially, which were effected with situations and directions of sprue. 5. Surface roughness of castings produced with the alloy had reacted to investment, was increased.journal articl

application/pdfA case of mandibular prognathism with open bite in a 18-year old girl was presented, which was treated by anterior alveolar osteotomy of the mandible combined with genioplasty. The procedure should be carefully planned with the use of analysis of dental casts, radiographs, split-photo techniques and other records, and has many advantages that will promise satisfactory results when the indication is correct, as shown in this case.journal articl

application/pdfAn anomaly of a tooth is an aberration or deviation from the normal anatomic growth or development of the teeth. Biologically, malformation might be a more appropriate term. However, rare forms of teeth will be described here without regard to embryology. In regard to the character of the tooth, even a normal form seen in more than 50% of Japanese people can be a rare form for Caucasians, and a form that appears frequently on the first molar may be rare on the third molar. The tooth anomaly appears as a deviation from the normal size, number, site or arrangement. However, these can frequently co-exist with other anomalies. The following items were reviewed. 1. Anomalies of the crown: 1) Shavel-shaped incisor, 2) Linguocervical groove, 3) Lingual pit (foramen caecum), 4) Central cusp, 5) Cusplet on the marginal ridge (Tubelculum interstiale), 6) Absence of the central groove, 7) Carabelli tubercle, 8) Protostylid, 9) 6th cusp, 10) 7th cusp, 11) Dryopithecus pattern. 2. Anomalies of the root: 1) Double-rooted incisor, 2) Double-rooted mandibular canine, 3) Number of the root of the maxillary premolar, 5) Mesial groove on the root of the mandibular premolar, 5) Three-rooted mandibular molar, 6) Gutter-shaped root, 7) Cervical enamel projection, 8) Enamel pearl, 9) Dilaceration and flexion.journal articl

application/pdfA statistical study was made of 1146 crowns and 195 bridges which had been fabricated for 537 patients at the Prosthetic Clinic of Matsumoto Dental College from January through December 1980. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Of patients, 45.62% were males and 54.38% were females; and 2) 89.77% were between the ages of 20 and 50 years. 3) Crowns for the upper anterior segment numbered the most among the six segments. 4) Of crowns, 63.18% were fabricated as full cast crowns; and 5) 84.38% were fabricated non-vital teeth. 6) Of bridges, 82.56% were fabricated as 3-unit bridges; and 7) 92.82% were fabricated as 1-pontic bridges. 8) Bridge retainers for the lower premolar segment numbered the most among the six segments. 9) Of bridge retainers, 77.34% were fabricated as full cast crowns; and 10) 60.98% were fabricated for vital teeth. 11) Of pontics, 39.62% were replaced for the lower molar segment. 12) In the comparison with similar observations in 1974 and 1977, the number of patients, crowns, and bridges sharply increased.journal articl

application/pdfTwo cases of simple bone cyst which appeared in the mandibular body region in a 31-year-old man and 26-year-old man were reported. The cyst in the former was curetted, but in the latter it was preserved after extraction of the unerupted mandibular third molar which had been enveloped. The cavities were filled roentgenographically on the healing of the lesion in both cases. 54 cases of simple bone cyst shown in the Japanese articles and in this article were evaluated.journal articl

application/pdfIt has been shown that alcohol, amino acids and bitter substances applied to the tongue elicit a phasic discharge in the glossopharyngeal nerve of the frog. Thus, we examined whether or not alcohols, amino acids and bitter substances elicit a linguo-hyglossal reflex in the frog. The results obtained suggest that hydrophobic amino acids and bitter substances stimulate only the chemoreceptor, but acids and alcohols may stimulate the nociceptive receptor as well as the chemoreceptor.journal articl

application/pdfIn the prevention and treatment of oral disease, the oral health guidance of the handicapped involves many more difficulties than that of the healthy patient, especially in regard to time and technical requirements. Under current conditions, control of oral disease, in particular oral health guidance, is neglected. Early treatment and continued guidance depends on early detection, therefore it is important that an exhaustive study of the oral cavity and the caries activity in the handicapped be carried out. In this paper, we discuss the caries activity and the oral cavity, as well as other factors in the handicapped. Two hundred and thirty six handicapped patients between the ages of 6 and 64 years were examined. We studied the condition of the entire body, the oral cavity, and the caries activity. The relationship between the Cariostat and other factors was analyzed statistically in these patients. These results indicate an especially intimate relationship between these factors and the caries activity.journal articl

application/pdfIn order to reveal the information processing mechanism of gustation in the brain, the input-output relation in frog gustatory linguo-hypoglossal reflexes was studied. The mean number of impulses obtained from the experiments with single fungiform papilla preparations and the mean amplitude of integrated reflex responses obtained from the experiments with unanesthetized frogs were employed as the magnitudes of input and output information, respectively. The slope of the curve of input-output relation obtained was not so steep, indicating that the pathway of frog gustatory linguo-hypoglossal reflexes may be relatively simple, probably disynaptic.journal articl
