Abstract - Currently energy consumption especially in Indonesia tends to increase from year to year, due to advances in technology and science, almost all aspects of life requires energy, such as for electricity generation, transport, commercial activities, industry and domestic purposes. The energy consumption tends to have a significant increase in the last 10 years, so the company must invest in order to increase production capacity so as to meet the consumer demand. Scenario planning analysis is used to develop strategies for a period of five years. Based on some influencing factors that identified from interview, two key uncertainties can be developed which are 'demand for fuel' and 'investment feasibility’. Both key uncertainties then plotted into four quadrants with the positive and negative extreme conditions to get the four scenarios, namely 'head down and recovered'; 'preparation for the future'; 'remain calm and move slowly' and 'growth ahead'. Of the four scenarios can be formulated three possible strategies to be applied by a company which are major investment, the selected investments and focus on operations. Major investment strategy focused on increasing production capacity in addition also to increased complexity and flexibility of existing facilities or build new refineries. The selected investment strategy is generally more focused on increasing the complexity and flexibility of the existing facilities. Focus on the operational strategy generally focused on operations rather than investment concerned with efficiency and product diversification. Implementation plan is needed to describe in more detail all strategies that already developed to be fitted to the entire scenario that may face by the company in the future.  Keyword: energy, scenario planning, investment, refinery, strategy

1 x 125 mw coal fired steam power plant economic analysis at pt krakatau daya listrik
Abstract. This study aims to perform an economic feasibility analysis of the construction project of Coal Fired Steam Power Plant with 125 MW capacities to be performed by PT Krakatau Daya Listrik, a subsidiary company from PT Krakatau Steel This research will analyze whether an investment on the construction of Coal Fired Steam Power Plant with 125 MW capacity is financially feasible. The analysis is conducted by using Capital budgeting method through Discounted Cash Flow approach. Indicators measured are Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Payback Period. In this approach also carried out the project sensitivity analysis. The construction project of a 1 x 125 MW Coal Fired Steam Power Plant is financially feasible by comparing financial feasibility parameters such as Net Present Value (NPV)> 0, Internal Rate of Return (IRR)> Cost of Capital and Payback Period less than maximum payback period that can be accepted. Based on the results of the analysis of these parameters, the construction project of Coal Fired Steam Power Plant 1 x 125 MW is feasible to be done financially with NPV value of MIDR 2,345,451, IRR 13.76% larger than WACC of 8.07% and Payback Period for 6 years 3 months. In relation to the results of financial analysis, the sensitivity analysis is used to determine the feasibility characteristics of the project on changes in investment value caused by the influence of economic variables and technical parameters. To conduct a deeper analysis, it is necessary to calculate the investment indicators by making changes (sensitivity analysis) to the key parameters that influence: EPC cost, coal price, loan interest rate, change in exchange rate and electricity tariff. Keywords: Capital Budgeting, Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Payback Period, Sensitivity Analysis
Decision Making Processes Under Uncertainties: Evaluating Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) and Real Option Valution Methods in Producing Better Investment Decision for Gas Project Development
Abstract. Oil & Gas Companies trying to manage shareholder values in a dynamic uncertain environments (Volatility of CAPEX, OPEX, Extractable reserves, Oil Gas Price, and External factors). Conventional valuation method on Capital Budgeting using Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis as a base case (mindset of deterministic/ not changing futures) considered having a drawbacks in valuing projects under uncertainty. The gas project development is threatening not to be undertaken due to the raise the level of related tangible uncertainty factors (CAPEX, OPEX, Extractable reserves, Oil Gas Price, and other External factors) that not accommodated using base case of DCF analysis with constant discount rate. In another side, the project having vast multiplier effects that will empower the community in the area of the gas project. Another perspective of valuation method is needed to give another information for decision makers. Methodology-used in this final project is DCF analysis accommodating the uncertainty, using continuous DCF method with the calculation of Sensitivity analysis, the Scenario Analysis and the Monte Carlo Analysis. Real Options valuation will be calculate from Black, Scholes, and Merton formula of European financial options valuation, and using binomial lattice option methodology. Project valuation with DCF base analysis up to continuous method of Monte Carlo analysis, showing that the Net Present Value (NPV) is relatively have variance smaller of US$M 1267 toward to project valuation using Real Option. Project valuation using Real Options, may lead to unprofitable projects being undertaken. Project valuation using DCF analysis may lead to profitable project is not undertaken. Development of a hybrid, or methods that combine DCF and Real Options, may contribute in better decision making processes of project valuation under uncertainty.Key word: Uncertainty factor, Project Valuation, NPV, DCF, Real Options, Decision making proces
