Eye-Tracking zur Kundenanforderungsvalidierung im Produktentwicklungsprozess - Auf dem Weg zur qualitätsoptimierten Customer-Co-Creation
Qualitativ hochwertige Produkte können durch die Entwicklung von Produktmerkmalen in Übereinstimmung mit den Kundenwünschen erreicht werden. Um die Konformität von Produkten mit den Anforderungen während des Produktentwicklungsprozesses zu validieren, werden zunehmend objektive biometrische Verfahren wie Eye-Tracking eingesetzt. Das vorliegende Papier gibt daher einen Überblick über den Einsatz von Eye-Tracking in der experimentellen Validierung von Produktdesigns. Darauf aufbauend wird ein Konzept zur Eye-Tracking-unterstützten Kundenanforderungsvalidierung vorgestellt und anhand einer ersten Machbarkeitsstudie überprüft. Anhand der Erkenntnisse wird dargelegt, wie die Präzision, Belastbarkeit und Reichhaltigkeit von Kundenanforderungsanalysen durch den Einsatz von Eye-Tracking erhöht werden können. Die Forschungsarbeiten legen damit einen Grundstein für objektivere und aufwandsärmere Kundenanforderungsanalysen. Sie ebnen so den Weg hin zu einer verstärkten Customer-Co-Creation und einer qualitätsorientierten Produktentwicklung auch für Konsumprodukte
Compute-First Networking (Dagstuhl Seminar 21243)
A Dagstuhl seminar on Compute-First Networking (CFN) was held online from June 14th to June 16th 2021. We discussed the opportunities and research challenges for a new approach to in-network computing, which aims to overcome limitations of traditional edge/in-network computing systems.
The seminar discussed relevant use cases such as privacy-preserving edge video processing, connected and automated driving, and distributed health applications leveraging federated machine learning. A discussion of research challenges included an assessment of recent and expected future developments in networking and computing platforms and the consequences for in-network computing as well as an analysis of hard problems in current edge computing architectures.
We exchanged ideas on a variety of research topics and about the results of corresponding activities in the larger fields of distributed computing and network data plane programmability. We also discussed a set of suggested PhD topics and promising future research directions in the CFN space such as split learning that is supported by in-network computing
Auf dem Weg zum evolutionärem Unternehmen : Barrieren der Tranformation und deren Abbau - ein Leitfaden für erste Schritte in der Praxis
Immer mehr Menschen verspüren den Drang, Unternehmen in Richtung einer evolutionär geprägten und sich entwickelnden Organisation zu führen. Allerdings behindern starke Barrieren diese Transformation – oder unterbinden sie sogar. Der vorliegende Beitrag führt zunächst in die Integrale Philosophie ein und, darauf aufbauend, in das von Frederic Laloux im Buch „Reinventing Organizations“ eingeführte Konzept der evolutionären Organisationen. Die drei Leitideen evolutionärer Organisationen, nämlich Wholeness, Selbstmanagement und evolutionärer Sinn, werden aufgegriffen und weitergeführt. Ziel ist es, Ansätze zu erläutern, wie Organisationen mit Barrieren umgehen und diese abbauen können
Planning Of Sustainable Energy Systems For Residential Areas Using An Open Source Optimization Tool And Open Data Ressources
Global warming and CO2 emission reduction targets mandate a closer look to energy system planning on different levels. In this work we model a typical residential area that will be built and has to be equipped with a cost optimized, decentral energy system with a high degree of energy autarky and integration of renewable sources. We sketch out the optimization problem and show that the optimization can be done using open data and an open source tool, the Helmholtz Framework for Integrated Energy System Assessment tool, FINE, exclusively. The energy system model chooses from a predetermined set of technologies, takes into account a temporal discretization approach for energy demands as well as for energy production capacities and considers decentralized sector coupling options. As a result, we get a cost-optimized energy system structure as a base for energy system design
Developing a Method for Measuring Science and Technology Oriented Creativity (STOC)
The article contains the results of a research within the STIMEY (Science, Technology, Innovation, Mathematics, Engineering for the Young) project funded by the European Union’s Horizon-2020 research and innovation program (2016-2021). In the project, a hybrid learning environment (LE) was developed for both on-site and online learning suitable for the learning conditions in the COVID-19 era and beyond. The purpose of the research segment presented in this paper was to develop an instrument for assessment of the learner’s progress in creativity as one of the key targets of STIMEY. COVID-19 has shown that creativity is also needed to allow education systems the flexibility for unexpected changes and circumstantial challenges. The article presents a definition of Science and Technology Oriented Creativity (STOC) based on the existing theories in the field, a short outline of the STOC measurement method developed, procedures, evaluation algorithms and an overview of the experimental STOC testing results. The relevance of the method developed to its purpose and suggested tentative positive influences of the STIMEY LE on learners’ creativity are discussed. Argumentations of strengths, limitations, applications of STOC testing outside the STIMEY project and the key directions of further improvements of the method developed are provided
Drawing the Line – Turning Social Practices of Smartphone Use Into (In)formal Rules and Regulations
Today's workplace is strongly influenced by digital information and communication technologies (ICT). Remote work raises new demands regarding employees’ availability as well as work engagement and requires new rules. However, how social practices regulate smartphone use in organisations has seldom been investigated. This paper explores the use of smartphone technology in organisations and how to implement formal rules. The analysis of 12 qualitative in-depth interviews with employees in a profit-oriented and a public service organisation confirms and enriches the types of usage as suggested by Orlikowski’s work on information technologies in organisations. In addition, we suggest reframing the non-enactment of smartphone technology as a constructive practice of ensuring productivity and employee well-being instead of being caused by a lack of technical know-how, or fear of losing power. In addition, three different types of practices for formally governing work-related smartphone use in new work arrangements have been identified: a) formalising the implicit communication etiquette, b) designing rules for specific organisational contexts and c) making use of technical resources. From a practical point of view, we recommend managers introduce a participatory process to design a formal policy that builds on established social practices
Development of an industrial cyber-physical platform for small series production using digital twins
The article describes an industrial cyber-physical platform for small series production using digital twins under development at ITMO University (Saint Petersburg, Russia). The platform is based on the following approaches: group technology, adaptive and selective assembling, and digital twin of production systems and processes. The article presents a mechanism for constructing a unified manufacturing process, and results of an integrated multiscale simulation of an injection moulding process. The issues of ensuring identification and monitoring of objects of the industrial cyber-physical platform are considered. Specific service applications required to implement the smart product concept are discussed. The combination of the considered technologies is used to create digital twins of production system objects. All humans that have different roles in the product value stream can interact with the industrial cyber-physical platform at the three levels, receiving support in performing their tasks.This article is part of the theme issue ‘Towards symbiotic autonomous systems’
Centimeter-Scale Gold Nanoparticle Arrays for Spatial Mapping of the Second Harmonic and Two-Photon Luminescence
Fabricating highly homogeneous plasmonic nanostructures over a large area and optically evaluating their structural quality are challenging. Here, we propose an elegant approach to achieve various dense nanoparticle arrays with tunable symmetries over centimeter-scale dimensions and optically evaluate the structural quality by spatially mapping nonlinear emissions from L-, U-, and O-shaped individual nanoparticles. In particular, the spectral overlapping of the second harmonic (SH) and two-photon luminescence (TPL) emissions is separated, and excitation polarization dependence and spatial fluctuations of the nonlinear signal across the nanostructures are investigated.Narrow Gaussian-distributed peaks in the intensity histogram of SH and TPL emissions confirm the high-level uniformity of the fabricated arrays. Distinct spatial distributions of SH and TPL emissions are observed, and their spatial correlation is very weak over large-area nanostructures. Furthermore, SH signals are demonstrated as a more sensitive indicator of the structural quality of nanoparticle arrays. Our findings not only offer an efficient way of constructing versatile large-scale nanostructures but also enable spatial nonlinear optics tailoring for applications of nano-optics and quantum information
