Beragama yang Fanatik Tanpa Sikap Ekstrem

    No full text
In religion, there are at least two variables, namely ‘fanaticism’ and ‘extremism’, which can be analyzed into four groups: first, non-extreme fanatics; second, extreme fanatics; third, non-fanatics but extreme; fourth, neither fanatics nor extreme. The focus of this paper is on religious fanaticism without extremism and efforts to realize it. Fanaticism here refers to devout and obedient religious attitudes in performing worship, which are manifested in individual and social life. Meanwhile, extremism in this context refers to a more literal, ideological, and exclusive religious attitude. This exclusivity can ultimately lead to religious communalism and the politicization of religion, so that what emerges is not the true essence of religion, but a religion that has been wrapped in the ideology of certain political parties and ethnicities. The root of the problem of extremism is not only in terms of religion, but also politics, economics, social issues, and so on

Hermeneutika Modern: Sebuah Pengenalan Awal (I)

The development of knowledge is a dialectic of social dynamics and knowledge itself, including theology. From there, various forms of knowledge emerged, eventually crystallizing into disciplines. One of them is hermeneutics, a field that can be simply understood as the science of interpretation. Initially, this science served as a prerequisite for deciphering religious texts that were considered final and sacred. That\u27s why hermeneutics as a discipline is closely related to the world of theology, specifically the sub-discipline of theology that deals with methodology and authentication in the interpretation of Scripture in both the Christian and Jewish traditions. This article describes modern hermeneutics from the aspects of understanding, history, and its divisions into methodological, philosophical, and critical hermeneutics

The justification of religion in a conflict, especially conflicts arising among followers of different religions, often surfaces easily. They frequently invoke religion by raising sacred symbols, masses, or groups to attempt to eliminate other groups. These conflicts often end in bloodshed. In such conditions, an interesting concept in Islamic teachings can be applied to overcome it, namely Ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood). This brotherhood has been exemplified by the Prophet and his companions. They truly understood its meaning and embodied it in their lives, thus creating peace, harmony, and coexistence among them, both within the religion and among people of different faiths

Hermeneutics, or the understanding and interpretation of the role of religion in the context of individual or societal life, positions religion as one of the guiding principles alongside others. In this position, the role of religion is subject to controversy, with at least two major groups: those who consider it important and those who see it as an obstacle to human life. Figures such as Nimrod, Pharaoh, Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx, Nietzsche, and others, in their respective emphases, view the socio-political role of religion as hindering societal progress, threatening the power and systems established by religious, cultural, or political elites. Conversely, another significant group does not doubt the role of religion in human life at all. Religion serves as guidance for humans towards salvation and happiness in both the worldly life and the hereafter. This article seeks to examine the important role of religion (specifically Islam) in all aspects of human life as an actualization of Islam\u27s mission as a mercy to the entire universe, with a strong social dimension

Kodifikasi Hadis: Menelusuri Fase Penting Sejarah Hadis Nabawi

The long and winding historical journey of the Prophetic Hadith has placed it as a subject that is never devoid of controversy and discourse disputes. One of the crucial issues often debated across various circles revolves around the history of the writing and compilation of Hadith. Indeed, discourse regarding this codification has been wielded as a potent weapon by Orientalists and those who deny the Sunnah (a group opposing the Sunnah) to discredit the Hadith or Sunnah and challenge its authenticity as the second source of Islamic law after the Quran. The contention among Muslims, as criticized by Orientalists, revolves around the issue of the validity of the writing and compilation of Hadith when viewed from normative considerations (such as the sayings of the Prophet, the reports of the Companions, and the followers), ultimately leading to doubts about the authority of the Sunnah itself within the broader framework of Islamic Law. This paper aims to provide initial clarification on the pros and cons surrounding the codification of the Prophetic Hadith

    No full text
The foundation of multiculturalism, based on identities created from free choices, assumes that firstly, religion must be viewed as a cultural construct, a reality originating from various texts that seek to create new meanings and imaginations. In a society where multiculturalism is not embraced, the resulting form of society is communalism. The social conflict between natives and ethnic Chinese seems to have become a historical destiny of this country. Even before independence, conflicts between the two had already occurred. Various efforts have been made to stop the conflicts, which often ended in violence, but the conflicts themselves never seemed to cease. This paper seeks to offer an approach to reorganize the potential conflicts into positive potentials by examining the socio-historical aspects that cause the points of contention between natives and ethnic Chinese. From there, a nation-building that is aspired to is not just a symbol of sovereignty but is truly felt by all citizens without being trapped by ethnic, tribal, racial, or religious barriers

In the Qur’an, the term “futuwwah” refers to “an ideal, noble, and perfect person, one whose hospitality and generosity are endless until they have nothing left for themselves, someone who selflessly gives everything they own, including their own life, for the sake of their companions.” In the perspective of Sufi mystics, futuwwah signifies heroic generosity, praiseworthy conduct following the example of the prophets, saints, sages, companions, and lovers of God. This ideal is perfectly exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Several examples of the tradition of generosity are seen in the character of Prophet Ibrahim, who obediently followed Allah’s command to sacrifice his son for the sake of Allah
