    Social justice within the framework of Pancasila often stands in contrast to the realities of everyday life, which are marked by inequality, marginalization, and the erosion of human dignity. This tension raises a fundamental philosophical question: how can social justice be meaningfully enacted in a society fraught with emotional tensions and moral dilemmas? To date, studies on justice have largely focused on normative and structural aspects, while the role of emotion in shaping moral awareness and ethical action has received relatively little attention. This research seeks to understand how emotions—such as guilt, shame, anger, disappointment, and love—influence moral perception and responses to injustice. It employs a qualitative approach using a philosophical-interpretative method, combining philosophical literature reviews, emotion theory, and in-depth interviews with purposively selected communities. Data collection was conducted through literature studies and interviews, while analysis was carried out using thematic interpretation and philosophical reflection. The findings reveal that emotions play a crucial role in shaping ethical orientations toward justice. Guilt and shame act as catalysts for reflection and solidarity, while anger, disappointment, and love serve as moral energies that drive active engagement in the struggle for justice. These insights enrich the discourse of applied ethics by positioning emotion as a vital foundation in the formulation and implementation of social justice

    Masyarakat Madani Perspektif Al-Qur’an: Prinsip-prinsip Pembentukan dan Relevansi di Era Modern

    This article presents an in-depth analysis of the concept of madani society (civil society) from the Qur’anic perspective, understood as an ideal social order founded upon justice, welfare, and democratic values. The study aims to formulate the fundamental principles underlying the formation of a madani society and to underscore their relevance in responding to the challenges of globalization, pluralism, and shifting power dynamics in the modern era. The research employs a qualitative methodology based on library research with a descriptive-thematic (mawḍū‘ī) analytical approach. Primary data are drawn from key Qur’anic verses—Q. al-Nisā’ 58, al-Ḥujurāt 13, al-Shūrā 38, and al-Baqarah 143—supported by authoritative exegetical works by Ibn Kathīr, al-Qurṭubī, and Sayyid Quṭb. The findings indicate that the conceptual blueprint of a madani society is constructed upon four foundational principles: (1) justice as the ethical and legal cornerstone; (2) equality of human dignity, which rejects discrimination and affirms diversity; (3) consultation (shūrā) as a participatory political mechanism to prevent authoritarianism; and (4) moderation (ummatan wasaṭan) as a moral and spiritual framework. The study argues that these principles position madani society as an essential counter-power through the implementation of amr bi al-ma‘rūf wa nahy ‘an al-munkar as a form of social accountability. Consequently, the Qur’anic conception of madani society offers not only a theoretical framework but also an ethical-operational foundation for establishing a just, harmonious, and inclusive social order in contemporary contexts

    Reassessing Al-Suyūṭī’s Claim of Tawqīfiyyah in Surah Naming: A Critical Analysis of Al-Itqān fī ʿUlūm al-Qurʾān

    This study critically examines al-Suyūṭī’s claim that all surah names in the Qur’an are tawqīfī, a theme that has received limited scholarly attention. Using a descriptive-analytical method, this article classifies al-Suyūṭī’s arguments in Al-Itqān fī ʿUlūm al-Qurʾān and evaluates them based on the presence or absence of reliable prophetic or companion-based reports. The primary source for this research is Al-Itqān, supported by secondary literature from contemporary studies on Qur’anic sciences. The findings show that al-Suyūṭī’s arguments can be divided into two major categories: surah names supported by authentic hadith, and those derived from scholarly usage without strong textual basis. This study argues that al-Suyūṭī’s assertion of tawqīfiyyah is not fully supported by his own evidence, indicating inconsistencies in his methodological approach. The research contributes to Qur’anic studies by offering a more nuanced understanding of the historical development of surah naming and highlighting the interplay between revelation-based and ijtihād-based nomenclature

    This research aims to analyze the practice of debus in the Banten tradition using a hermeneutic approach. Debus is a traditional martial art that has been passed down through generations in the Banten community. This tradition involves various mystical, ritualistic, and spiritual elements, making it intriguing to investigate through a hermeneutic perspective. The hermeneutic approach is employed to uncover the hidden meanings behind the debus practice. The study combines analyses of ancient texts, historical records, interviews with debus practitioners, and direct observations of debus performances to understand the cultural context, philosophy, and symbolism associated with the practice. The findings of this research are expected to provide a deeper understanding of the debus practice as part of Banten’s cultural heritage and how this tradition remains relevant in modern society. Additionally, this research is also anticipated to offer fresh insights into the significance and meaning of the spiritual and mystical aspects inherent in the debus practice. With the hermeneutic approach, this research aims to unravel interpretative layers and comprehend how the debus practice in the Banten tradition serves as a valuable means of cultural expression and local identity. The outcomes of this research can contribute to strengthening cultural sustainability and preserving the debus practice for future generations

    This article explores the interpretation of Surah al-Mumtaḥanah verses 8–9 and its relevance to the Indonesian Ulama Council’s (MUI) Fatwa No. 83 of 2023, within the context of Israel’s ongoing annexation and aggression against Palestine. The significance of this study lies in the close thematic connection between these Qur’anic verses and the current plight of Palestinians—despite the verses not being explicitly cited in the fatwa. Employing a qualitative library research method, this article combines thematic tafsir with Alfred Schutz’s phenomenological framework to examine the meanings and implications of the verses. The analysis reveals that the verses instruct Muslims not to extend fairness or form alliances with those who expel them from their land. When contextualized within the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the verses imply that Muslims should avoid conciliatory relations with Israel. Phenomenologically, the "because motive" behind the interpretation is Israel’s continued aggression, while the "in-order-to motive" is to support the cessation of violence and the attainment of Palestinian independence. These findings highlight the ethical and political dimensions of scriptural interpretation in response to contemporary geopolitical crises

    This study examines the practice of Islamic moderation in Kendalkemlagi Village, Karanggeneng Subdistrict, Lamongan Regency, which is inhabited by three major Islamic organizations: Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Muhammadiyah, and the Indonesian Islamic Da’wah Institute (LDII). The harmonious relations among these groups, despite their differing religious orientations, present an important phenomenon amid ongoing issues of social fragmentation among Islamic organizations in Indonesia. The aim of this research is to describe the forms of religious moderation practiced in the community and to analyze the social factors that support the creation of harmony at the local level. This study employs a qualitative research design using a sociology of religion approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using Joachim Wach’s cross-sectional comparative method and Emile Durkheim’s concept of social cohesion. The findings reveal that religious moderation in Kendalkemlagi is manifested through inter-organizational cooperation in socio-religious activities, inter-affiliational kinship ties, and an inclusive tradition of village deliberation. Local values such as gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and a strong sense of belonging reinforce social integration within the community. In conclusion, religious moderation in Kendalkemlagi is a social construct shaped by inclusive cultural and religious interactions, providing a concrete model of moderate Islam practiced at the grassroots level

    This study explores the epistemic tension between two interpretive orientations in Qur’anic scholarship: the theocentric view, which regards the Qur’an as kalām ilāhī (divine speech), and the anthropocentric perspective, which considers it as lisān—an Arabic linguistic product embedded in history and culture. While classical ʿulūm al-Qurʾān have largely emphasized the transcendent nature of divine speech, systematic investigation into the Qur’an as a historically situated linguistic structure remains underdeveloped. To address this gap, the present research proposes a synthetic approach that integrates both perspectives. Through linguistic analysis and contextual interpretation, this study demonstrates that the Qur’an simultaneously manifests as kalām—a mode of transcendent revelation—and as lisān—a temporally and spatially bound human language. This dual manifestation affirms the Qur’an’s nature as both divine and historical, universal and particular, transcendent and immanent. The findings offer a more integrative framework for Qur’anic studies, where linguistic inquiry and historical contextualization are essential not only for academic analysis but also for deepening theological understanding of revelation

    Toleransi Di Kalangan Santri Pondok Pesantren Kabupaten Bekasi

    Tolerance is the most important element in religious moderation when compared to other dimensions. Several phenomena of intolerance and radicalization emerged in Bekasi Regency, such as the arrest of terrorists, rejection of the establishment of places of worship for adherents of other religions, and so on. This makes the role of Islamic boarding schools very important in stemming intolerant movements. This research is quantitative. The sampling method used in this research is the Purposive Sampling and Quota Sampling method. The Purposive Sampling method was used in selecting two Islamic boarding schools in Bekasi Regency, namely YAPINK and Attaqwa, while the Quota Sampling method was used in distributing the selected sample of students. The number of samples used in this research was 312 students. The results of this research are that the contribution of tolerance is very significant in instilling religious moderation, then Islamic boarding school students have moderate views and attitudes in the dimension of tolerance

    Conflict is a persistent social phenomenon in human life, often triggered by social change, differences in authority, interests, and culture. As a nation with high ethnic diversity, Indonesia is particularly vulnerable to ethnic conflict. This article aims to explore the genealogy of ethnic conflicts and propose alternative resolutions through a case study of the conflict between the Dayak and Madurese ethnic groups in West Kalimantan. The research employs documentation methods and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to gather data from relevant institutions, researchers, intellectuals, and conflict survivors. The findings reveal that conflicts are often sparked by personal incidents, yet their escalation is influenced by social, cultural, economic, and political factors. The limited role of the government in addressing these conflicts is identified as one of the main barriers to resolution. This article recommends multiculturalism-based resolution approaches and cross-cultural dialogue as efforts to build harmonious relationships between ethnic groups

    Awareness of climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation has increased in recent decades, triggering global movements to protect ecosystems and ensure the sustainability of natural resources. This article examines the philosophical views of Ibn Arabī and Spinoza on the relationship between God and the universe and their implications for environmental awareness. In Ibn ‘Arabī point of view nature as a manifestation of God, thus preserving nature is an act of worship and respect towards God. In Baruch Spinoza point of view nature is an expression of the eternal God, providing a strong ethical foundation for environmental preservation. In Indonesia, an integrating traditional cultural and spiritual values with modern approaches can create holistic strategies for protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development. This article aims to enhance environmental awareness by combining scientific, moral, and spiritual perspectives, and inspiring sustainable actions in safeguarding nature as part of humanity’s moral and spiritual responsibility
