    MODIFICATION AND REENGINEERING OF ELECTRONIC FISH AGGREGATING DEVICE AS A FISHING TOOLS BASED ON LED ILLUMINANCE

    Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) is generally made from foliage like a leaf of coconut, palm and nut, but with the development of marine and fishing technology, the FADs could be made electronic ally. Electronic FADs had been developed by using light and sound as an attractor, and  was able to aggregate fish but the catch harvest was still relatively low compared with lift net lamp. In this paper we describe the recent development of electronic FADs. The new electronic FADs has 120 watts total power of LEDs as attractor, 12V 12Ah battery as the energy resources, and HDPE as the body of FADs. The lighting of the new is either blue – red light color (RE1) or red-white light color (RE2). The two kinds of lighting are tested and compared and its light distribution underwater case measured in term of the value of luminous flux. The results showed that new FADs work well in the water with light penetration of RE1 was better than RE2.  Keywords: FADs, instrument, fishing, ligh

    SUSTAINABILITY ANALYSIS OF MANGROVE ECOSYSTEM FOR ECOFISHERYTOURISM IN SIDOARJO LUMPUR ISLAND

    Sidoarjo Lumpur Island is an artificial island created as a solution to the handling of sediment deposition in Porong River Estuary as a result of the mudflow which flowed into the sea via the Porong River. Lumpur Island is currently utilized as a habitat for mangrove ecosystem extension as well as a site for  aquaculture with wanamina system (silvofishery). Ecofisherytourism is a way to utilize mangrove ecosystem for ponds silvofishery based on educational and economic approach to achieve the welfare of society. In addition, ecofisherytourism has a direct  benefit of preserving nature and the environment. The research objective was to evaluate the condition of the mangrove ecosystem and analyze the physical condition of the Sidoarjo Lumpur Island as a reference in developing the island as ecofisherytourism region. The methods used were a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through analysis of aerial photographs, field measurements, observation and documentation. Mangrove ecosystem conditions in Lumpur Island was classified as good  to be utilized as ecotourism and fisherytourism .     APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL FEED WITH DIFFERENT PROTEIN CONTENT ON BLACKSADDLED CORAL GROUPER Plectropomus laevis NURSERY

    Blacksaddled coral grouper Plectropomus laevis is an export commodity and possess high economic value in Asian markets, but the wild population is already threatened. The purpose of this study was to determine the best food for improving growth and survival rate. The nursering were conducted using 9 fiberglass tanks with 1 m3 of volume for 6 month, with three treatment and 3 replicates. Three different foods were used as treatments, i.e.: Local commersial pellet with crude protein content 50% (A), im-port  commersial pellet with cure protein content 55% (B) and trash fish (sardine) (C). The initial size of blacksaddled coral grouper seed were 2.5 cm total lengths (TL), 0.45 g body weight (BW). The stocking density of fry was reared at 250 fish per m3. A complete random design was used as an experiment design. Data was analysed using ANOVA statistics. Feeding times were twice a day at 08.00 and 15.00 local time; with dose at satiation. The samplings of fry were conducted every 15 day to measure of survival rate (SR), TL and BW. On the end of experiment was calculated economic ana-lized (BC ratio). The result showed that there was significant different (P<0.05) among treatments for SR and growth rate (GR). The better SR and GR was at treatment B with SR 96.5%, and GR 0.75g/day followed by treatment C (SR 90.5%: GR 0.54g/day) and treatment A (SR 81.5%: GR 0.42g/ day. The food conversion ratio was 1.15 in treatment A, 1.02 in B and 4.81 (wet weight) in C. From economic analized showed that the best BC ratio was in pellet 55% protein (B), followed by trash fish (C) and pellet 50% protein (A) with BC ratio of 1.75, 1.72 and 1.41 respectively.

    REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY OF POKEA CLAM Batissa violacea var. celebensis, VON MARTENS 1897 AT LASOLO ESTUARY, SOUTHEAST SULAWESI

    Pokea clam Batissa violacea var. celebensis von Martens 1897 that inhabits the substrates of some estuaries in Southeast Sulawesi has a tendency to have different reproductive pattern. The aim of this study was to determine the sex ratio, gonadal maturity stage (TKG), gonadal maturity index (IKG) and the size at first gonad maturity of pokea in Lasolo estuary, Southeast Sulawesi.  Samples were randomly collected using a traditional fishing gear called tangge.  Sex ratio, TKG, IKG, and the size at first gonad maturity were determined using standard methods and formulas and then analyzed using Chi Square, quantitative description and non-linear regression. The results showed that the number of males were higher than the numbers of females, ranging from 71.85-89.84% and 10.16-28.15%, respectively.  Gonadal maturity development of male and female occured simultaneously. Early gonadal maturity stage began in January.  Spawning occurs twice, beginning with maturity in April and spawning in May and then again maturity in July and spawning in July until October.  IKG values of male and female were relatively the same ranging from 2.56-31.92. The males matured earlier than the females at size 1.95 cm and 2.15 cm, respectively.   Keywords: female, gonad, male, clam, maturity, spawnin

    BIODIVERSITY OF REEF FISHES IN MARINE PROTECTED AREA OF KARIMUNJAWA NATIONAL PARK

    Karimunjawa National Park (KNP) has a high diversity of coral reef and fish. This study is aimed to analyze the biodiversity of reef fish in KNP. Field survey was conducted in KNP, District of Jepara, Central Java, in April-Juni 2015. Primary data was obtained by using survey and observation method,   includes the number of reef fish individuals per family, coral cover, turbidity, total nitrogen (N), and PO4. Secondary data were obtained from KNP authority. Belt transect method was used for counting the number of reef fish individuals, while coral cover was measured using line intercept transect (LIT) method. Abundance and biomass of reef fishes were analyzed descriptively, followed by cluster analysis. The results indicated that the average of coral cover in 2015 was 44.70%. The highest coral cover was in Taka Malang with 65.65% and the lowest was in Nirwana with 35.45%. The reef fish’s abundance in 2015 was dominated by Pomacentridae (60.46%) with an abundance of 14,850 no/ha, the second position was Caesionidae (11.77%) with an abundance of 2,892 no/ha, the third was Scaridae (6.27%) with an abundance of 1,540 no/ha. The highest biomass in 2015 was Scaridae (122.33 kg/ha), the second order was Caesionidae (104.91 kg/ha), and the third was Serranidae (50.80 kg/ha).     SUITABILITY ANALYSIS OF FLOATING CAGE CULTURE OF GROUPER FISH USING GIS IN RINGGUNG WATERS OF LAMPUNG

    The study aims to determine suitability of floating cage (KJA) culture of grouper fish in Ringgung waters of Lampung. Data were analysed using GIS for spatial analysis at five stations.  There were 10 water quality parameters measured, such as bathimetry, current velocity, water transparency, temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, ammonia, and phosphate. Three suitability criteria, i.e very suitable, suitable, and not suitable were used to determine the suitability of floating cage culture of grouper fish. The results show that from 99.168,5 ha of the total area used for floating cage culture of grouper fish, about 85,94% covering 8522,16 ha were classified as very suitable, 5,64% covering 559,69 ha classified as suitable, and  8,42% covering 835 ha classified as not suitable.                                     Keywords : grouper culture, suitability, Ringgung waters, Lampung Province, GI

    ECONOMIC IMPACT FROM PLASTIC DEBRIS ON SELAYAR ISLAND, SOUTH SULAWESI

    Sampah plastik dalam jumlah besar terdeposit di pesisir Pulau Selayar yang berhadapan langsung dengan Laut Jawa selama musim barat. Sampah plastik telah menimbulkan dampak sosial dan ekonomi bagi nelayan di Pulau Selayar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji komposisi, kepadatan dan sebaran dari sampah plastik; dampak terhadap sosial dan ekonomi. Metode transek garis digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menentukan jumlah dan sebaran sampah plastik. Ukuran sampah plastik yang diamati adalah >2,5 cm dikategorikan sebagai sampah makro. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada Februari sampai Maret 2016. Dampak sampah plastik menurunkan pendapatan dari pariwisata, industri perikanan, mengganggu operasi penangkapan ikan, memerlukan pembersihan dan perbaikan pada alat langkap. Biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk perbaikan dan pembersihan kapal ikan sekitar 192,9 juta rupiah tiap tahun dan perbaikan alat tangkap 156,2 juta rupiah per tahun. Sampah plastik terdiri dari botol plastik, gelas plastik, tali dan jaring ikan, korek gas, keranjang plastik, pelampung, kemasan plastik, sikat gigi dan alat suntik. Rata-rata sampah plastik adalah 9,5 ± 2,7 item/m2 dan berat sekitar  229,2 ± 109,9 g/m2.Kata kunci: dampak, manajemen, Pulau Selayar, sampah plastik,                              sosial-ekonom

    ASSOCIATION OF LOKAN SHELL Geloina erosa, SOLANDER 1786 AND MANGROVE AT KAHYAPU COASTAL AREA OF ENGGANO ISLAND, BENGKULU PROVINCE

    Lokan shell Geloina erosa closely related to mangrove ecosystem in Enggano island. Mangrove is one supplier of organic materials required by Lokan shell. The research conducted in September 2015 - January 2016 at mangrove ecosystems in Kahyapu coastal area, aims to analyse lokan shells Geloina erosa conditions and its association with mangrove ecosystems. Sampling of mangrove vegetation was taken using line transect and lokan shell sampling using plot in mangrove ecosystem. The results show that mangrove condition of the Kahyapu coastal area was in healthy condition for the growth of lokan shell. Lokan shell are significantly assosiated with mangrove in Kahyapu coastal area of Enggano Island

    ANALYSIS OF SECONDARY METABOLITES, ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY AND COMPOUND COMPOSITION IN THE SEA CUCUMBER Bohadschia sp. EXTRACT

    Bohadschia sp. is one of the sea cucumber species that has potential to be developed as a source of antibacterial from the sea. Samples of sea cucumber Bohadschia sp. used in this study collected from the Ratai bay waters, Lampung. This study aims to determine the type of secondary metabolites, antibacterial activity and compound composition analysis containing in the sea cucumber extract. Identification of secondary metabolites by observation of color reactions, precipitation and foam. The method used to antibacterial activity test was the agar diffusion method, while identification of the composition of compounds performed with Gas Chromatogaphy-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS) method.Top of FormThe results showed that the type of secondary metabolites contained in the extract of sea cucumber Bohadschia sp. were steroids and saponins. The extract of sea cucumber Bohadschia sp. showed antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Vibrio eltor. Results of GC-MS were 12 compounds and have a similarity index same or more than 90%. All compounds consist of organosilicon cyclic, fatty acid, steroid, cyclo alkene and alkena. The compound with biggest abundance was cholest-5-en-3-yl nonanoate (4.89%) and retention time was 37.370 minutes

    Pharella acutidens clam is a bivalve lives in mangrove ecosystem substrate, that is one of protein source for Dompu’s people. the existence of pharella acutidens in Cempi Bay, Dompu begin difficult to collect due to mangrove area has been reduced by result of land conversion from mangrove ekosistem area to estuary aquaculture pond and mangrove timber exploitation by local community as well as the Pharella acutidens routin exploitation, these factor may has influenced the existence of Pharella acutidens clam in the Cempi Bay mangrove ecosystem. This study aims to determine the condition of the Pharella acutidens clams located in the mangrove ecosystem Cempi bay, which in is an abundance on different conditions mangrove vegetation an abundance of Pharella acutidens clams tended more on high density and high basal area sites as well as the size of the clams. Varied habitats, from the density of 1.333 trees/ha up to 3.300 trees/ha, the basal area and the diverse species of mangrove, making this study an interesting thing  This journal is part of the research that explains positive influence between total basal area of mangrove vegetation (∑Ci) and abundance of Pharella acutidens, by simple regression analysis. The result showed that total basal area of mangrove vegetation (∑Ci) positively influencing abundance of P. acutidens clams with equation y = 0,3038x + 3,887 and R2 = 0,9579
