    This collaborative action research aimed at increasing teachers' reflective teaching through the use of mutual observation and conference among critical friends, and the writing of teaching journal. It consisted of two cycles and involved two lecturers, two senior teachers, and one junior teacher. In cycle one, mutual observation followed with conference among critical friends resulted in the teachers' more reflective attitude about their teaching performance and better relationship between senior and junior teachers. Though considered to be beneficial, mutual observation needed deeply rooted trust among colleauges that needed long time to grow and neatly arranged teaching schedule. Therefore, in the second cycle, the writing of teaching journal, which then was discussed among critical friends, was taken as alternative

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan hal-hal yang mendasari upaya guru dalam mengembangkan dan menerapkan model pembelajaran IPS yang menggunakan masyarakat sebagai sumber belajar. Dengan pendekatan kualitatif, pengumpulan data dilakukan terhadap subjek penelitian yang berjumlah dua orang guru SD Kelas V di wilayah Dayeuhkolot Bandung. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran IPS yang menggunakan masyarakat sebagai sumber belajar dapat menjadi aset penting dalam membina murid dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis, penguasaan bahan, pemberian pengalaman langsung dan nyata, melatih dasar-dasar kegiatan ilmiah sederhana, serta mengembangkan aspek nilai, sikap dan moral yang dibutuhkan untuk membina kepribadian siswa

    This desciptive-correlational research was designed to describe community participation in the school-public relation programs. It collected data from elementary schools in Malang Municipality by using questionnaire and documentation, and then analyzed statistically by percentage, product moment correlation, and t-test. It was found out that community participation in the school-public relation programs was high, and that the programs were effective. The program effectiveness was related to the community participation. There were differences in the level of community participation and in the program effectiveness among the elementary schools

    This study was intended to investigate the influence of sex education and assertion training toward teenagers’ attitude toward pre-marital sex. Pretest-posttest control groups weere employed. Subjects consisted of 32 teenagers who were divided into three groups. The first group consisting of 11 students were given sex education, the second group consisting of 11 students were given assertion training, and the last group, the control or waiting list group, consists of 10 people. Data were analysed using one way analysis of variance and this was supported with individual data analysis. The study found that there was highly significant influence of sex education toward teenagers’ attitude toward pre marital sex; and assertion training did not contribute to teenagers’ attitude toward pre marital sex although score of pre test and post test was different. This led to the conclusion that sex education was more influential than assertion training in influencing teenagers’ attitude toward pre-marital sex

    Implementation of Writing Process Approach

    This study aimed at describing the implementation of Writing Process Approach in an informal classroom of fourth and fifth graders of Barrington Elementary School in Columbus, United States. The data were gathered from five-week observation. The results showed that (1) students were provided with regular, abundant opportunity to write, (2) students were free to choose their own topics with the general theme that the teacher set, (3) there were student-student conferences, student-teacher conferences, and whole-class conferences which allowed the teacher and also the peer to scaffold students in their meaning-making process, (4) language was taught out of students’ individual and whole class writing contexts, (5) students were surrounded by rich literature, (6) the implementation of the writing process did not follow a linear predetermined, rigid stages, but was based on students’ individual characteristics

    Developing Instructional Package of Handicraft and Arts Subject for the Third Grade of Elementary School. Instructional process of handicrafts and arts subject in elementary schools have not yet optimally developed. One of the causes is that the textbooks used have not so far been organized based on prescriptive learning theories, and that teachers' guide is not available. This study was designed to develop an instructional package based on prescriptive learning theories, which is equipped with such components as manual, specific learning objectives, description of learning contents, summaries, exercises, answer key, and feedback.     Effects of Group Size on Productivity in Learning Group Discussion. This experimental research was designed to test the productivity difference between small group, medium group, and large group in problem solving discussion. The subjects were 36 students drawn randomly, which were assigned to discuss in the three kinds of group. The group product was ideas for solving problems posed, which were then evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively by three "judges" working independently. The analyses of variance and t-test were applied to analyse data. It was found out from the data analyses that the quantity of ideas produced by the three kinds of group had no significant differences, but the solution ideas produced by the medium group (with 6 members) were highest in quality

    The Relationship between Teachers' Professional Competence and Utilization of Learning Resources and Students Achievement in Science. This study was intended to investigate the relationship between teachers' professional competence and utilization of learning resources and students' achievement in science. The study involved 34 elementary school teachers in Sarangan, Surakarta. Product moment technique and regression analyses were employed to analyze the data which had been collected using questionnaires. The results indicate that there is no correlation between the utilization of learning resources and students' achievement in science, that there is a significant correlation between teachers' professional competence and students' achievement, and that there is no significant correlation between the use of learning resources, teachers' professional competence, and students' achievement in science
